Politico Poll: The Country Remains Sharply Divided On The Need For An Immediate Concession

In a vivid demonstration of our political divide, less than half of the country believes that President Donald Trump should immediately concede. Only a majority of Democrats (by a wide margin) holds that view. Once again, the poll shows the hardened silos of American politics. It also shows how the media has detached itself and its coverage from half of this country. As it did before the election, the media continues to coddle Biden in press conferences and frame the news in a familiar slant. Within 24 hours of the election being called for Biden, many in the media declared any challenges to the election to be “conspiracy theories” and demanded an immediate concession of defeat from Trump.  While I have expressed great skepticism over many challenges and I have been critical of the failure of the Administration to “ascertain” the election for Biden for weeks, I have maintained that it is important for these challenges to be heard and resolved if we have any hope to unify this country. While the media and many Democrats were correct in calling for “every vote to be counted,” they have opposed efforts to recount those votes or address whether they have been counted correctly.  Again, there is no evidence of systemic fraud or errors, but the overwhelming pressure in the media to stop the challenges after the calling of the election has only deepened the suspicion and divide in this country — as has the President’s own rhetoric on a stolen election.  A recount in Georgia has found the type of human error that we have previously discussed and thousands of uncounted votes. Yet, that has not stopped the attacks on anyone, including lawyers, who are seeking such reviews.

The poll shows how the little penetration and credibility the media now has with much of the public. Over half of the public still want to see the challenges resolved despite the steady drumbeat of the media to denounce any challenges or the need for them to be fully addressed in the courts. Indeed, some academics are comparing questioning Biden’s victory to “holocaust denial” or going to court as itself a form of fraud or abuse.

The new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll shows that 46 percent of registered voters think Trump should concede to Biden “right away.” That includes 72 percent of Democrats, 43 percent of independents surveyed and 17 percent of Republicans.

The polls shows 32 percent of registered voters who believe that Trump should concede the election “eventually if he is unable to back up” his mass fraud claims. Notably, 21 percent of Democratic respondents and 34 percent of independent respondents are believe that Trump should not immediately concede but do so after the challenges are heard and resolved. Most worrisome for me is the 12 percent who believe that Trump should never concede.  I expect the percentage for concession will (and should) increase as these challenges are heard and rejected.  I have repeatedly stated that the Trump team is running out of time and runway to launch a serious claim of systemic problems in the election. (Yesterday, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court rejected the challenge based on observers. I stated two weeks ago that allegations of involving observers would not likely change any outcome on voting). The problem is that all of the hyperventilation over the challenges and effort to stop them has fueled the mistrust of many in the results. What voters see is an immediate campaign (after the election was called for Biden) to harass lawyers and law firms to get them to drop challenges.  What they see is the same one-sided media coverage that either ignores alleged irregularities or dismisses any claims before they were actually filed in court.

Given the nine percent who have not reach a conclusion, the plurality still favors immediate concession, but that is still remarkably low given the unrelenting coverage and open hostility shown to the challenges from the outset. A majority either does not support an immediate concession or have not reached a conclusion on the need for such a concession.

If Biden was losing in these states and this campaign produced hundreds of affidavits of alleged irregularities, the media and the Democrats would be demanding that all challenges be heard and resolved in the interests of the democratic process.  I would be advocating supporting those calls as I did in 2004 when Democrats raised objections to the voting in states like Ohio.

There was a time when most voters trusted the media and that trust allowed for greater trust in the outcome of the election. For four years, the media has dispensed with any sense of neutrality and openly supported the Biden campaign. Reporters are now invested in the various narratives put forward by the Biden camp and their coverage reflects that bias. The result is shown in this poll. The media is now playing to the same 30-40 percent of the voters. It is no surprise therefore that the media got polling wrong or that their predictions of a blue wave collapsed on election night.  The Republicans not only came remarkably close to retaking the house (which now has the smallest margin since World War II), but appear likely to retain the Senate. They also made major gains in state races. Moreover, while winning the popular vote handily, Biden won key states by only a couple percent points, including races that took a week to call. The mainstream media was wrong because it remains as siloed and isolated as its viewers.

Obviously, this poll will be spinned like everything else in our politics.  Politico’s headline declares “Poll: 46 Percent Say Trump Should Concede ‘Right Away.'” Yet, what was most striking to some of us was that a majority does not even after a couple weeks of challenges and negative court decisions. What the poll really shows is an unresolved divide and no real avenue to breach that divide. I expect that those favoring a concession will rise in the coming days absent some major new challenge. However, the unrelenting biased coverage will likely undermine the confidence of many voters. That will only work to the disadvantage of Biden and the country going forward. What concerns me is that we have missed the best opportunity to come together as a nation by supporting a full and open review of the election.

In the past, it has been the media that helped unite us. We could trust that reporters have actively pursued allegations of wrongdoing. If the media called an election, most people accepted that judgment. No longer. That trust is largely gone and so is the capacity for healing. That is the most chilling aspect of the Politico poll: a plurality wants an immediate concession, a majority does not . . .  and one hundred percent remains divided on either what the truth is or how to find it.

  1. Trump Made All-Out Effort To Sabotage Consumer Financial Protection Bureau

But Trump’s Sabotage Will ‘Benefit’ Biden In One Big Way!

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was created after the last financial crisis to be the tough cop on the beat, making sure people don’t get taken advantage of by lenders, debt collectors or other companies. It’s returned $12 billion to people harmed by financial firms.

“This agency was designed to be a watchdog,” says Deepak Gupta, a former top enforcement lawyer at the bureau. “That mission is more important than ever.”

With millions of Americans in desperate financial straits due to the pandemic, he says, more people are vulnerable to predatory practices.

But under the Trump administration, this federal watchdog had its teeth removed. President Trump put one of the bureau’s fiercest Republican critics, Mick Mulvaney, in charge of running it.

As a congressman, Mulvaney called the bureau “a joke.” He said, “That’s what the CFPB really has been in a sick, sad kind of way.” Mulvaney sponsored legislation to abolish the bureau.

Under Mulvaney and his successor, the number of enforcement cases fell sharply. By one count, the money the bureau returns to consumers dropped by 96%.

But in its zeal to weaken the agency, the Trump administration backed a lawsuit claiming that the bureau was unconstitutional, in part because its director had too much power and couldn’t be removed by the president. The case eventually went all the way to the Supreme Court. And this past summer, the court said the president could fire the director.

But by then Trump’s director was already in place, so he had no need to fire anybody. And so the lawsuit, in a sense, backfired, because had the suit not been brought, President-elect Joe Biden would have been stuck with a Trump-appointed director at the CFPB for years to come.

“The irony of that is that now on Day 1, President Biden will be able to name his own director — someone who is much more committed to the mission that the agency has to look out for American consumers,” Gupta says.

    KEY PASSAGE FROM ABOVE:

“Under Mulvaney and his successor, the number of enforcement cases fell sharply. By one count, the money the bureau returns to consumers dropped by 96%.”

See that? Under Trump’s leadership, money returned by the bureau to consumers dropped by 96%. That’s how much little Trump thinks of consumers!

  2. Let’s lay out all the methods Trump has to win, from most legal to less legal:

    1. Win the election from the start. (did not happen)
    2. Identify enough actual issues with ballots that there are enough to challenge to overcome Biden’s win. (did not happen, even if Trump’s suits have merit, there are still not enough votes to be changed).
    3. File enough dubious suites and hope that there are a few partisan judges that will not dismiss them long enough to prevent the votes from being certified. (in process, but the judges are not playing along).
    4. Have the local board of electors not certify the results, or convince the state legislators to ignore the certified votes and appoint Trump electors (in process but all the state legislators have already rejected this).
    5. That is it. Any others from here down are just plain illegal.

Trump lost. This is not an issue where there are two sides with valid opinions.

    1. And 4 would be an actual theft likely to be overturned or completely destabilizing to the country. Trump and some Republicans don’t appear to care.

  3. Michigan and Georgia, Like in PA and VA, Caught in SAME PATTERN! — Once Biden Gained Lead with MASSIVE Vote Dumps, The Remainder of Votes All Possessed Same Biden to Trump Vote Ratio –

    THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE!

We’ve reported on multiple incidents of ‘glitches’ that people observed related to the 2020 Presidential Election. These incidents seem odd and so we sought out and found a data set from the 2020 Presidential election. A group of IT patriots analyzed a data set of election vote data and found millions of votes in the election that were either lost or transferred from President Trump to Joe Biden. We reported this and our post was retweeted by the President. Then in Pennsylvania we identified a strange pattern in vote percentages between President Trump’s Election Day votes and his mail-in votes that was basically impossible and suggested fraud: Then we reported on a pattern from a few select counties in Michigan that were consistent but made no sense other than to indicate fraud. Dr. Shiva Ayyadurai using his approach identified 138,000 votes transferred from Trump to Biden in his study: Then we used the same analysis used by Dr. Shiva on a data set from Milwaukee and found more votes transferred from President Trump to Biden. This was enough to change the Wisconsin election to President Trump.

We then re-performed Dr. Shiva’s work on one Michigan County he reviewed and materially agreed with Dr. Shiva’s result: Next we reported on another unusual pattern in vote reporting in Virginia and Pennsylvania where after large entries were made which provided a lead for Joe Biden late in the election process, nearly all subsequent entries after that period of time had the exact same unusual ratio in Trump to Biden votes.

Tonight we can report we found the exact same virtually impossible activity in Georgia and Michigan.

    Georgia

In Georgia President Trump was up by as much as a 57% to Biden’s 42% and with 50% of the votes counted Trump was still way ahead. Then Biden was allocated batches of votes for hours, some with negative Trump votes and then with 89% of the votes in, Biden took the lead. From that point on for the next 53 batches of votes counted, for EVERY SINGLE vote batch the batches had exactly a 50.05% to 49.95% victory margin for Biden and Trump cementing Biden’s lead. Not a single batch in our data set after the “lead switch event” varied from that margin for all new vote batches. This too is inconceivable and indicates fraud.

    Michigan

Next in Michigan we see a similar pattern as in Virginia, Pennsylvania and Georgia. Of the 530 entries in the New York Times of the Michigan votes for President at around 03:37:16Z, (10:36PM EST), with around 25% of the expected vote cast, Trump is ahead by a margin of 55% to 43%. Up to that point, Trump was winning many of the batches 60%-40%, 70%-30%, and a few batches at even 75-25%! From 25-53% of the expected vote cast, the incremental vote percentage is unusually consistent at 45% Biden, 55% Trump in 101 of the 160 incremental count batches, that’s in 63% of the batches. Of the 59 batches that are NOT consistent with the pattern, we find the negative adjustments being made in those batches, and larger batches (more than 10,000 votes) going for Biden. Then at 12:46 AM EST, with about 54% of the expected vote count in, the “consistent” percentage of batches is updated to 46% Biden and 54% Trump. This is consistent until the total expected vote counts reach 88% of the vote cast. (Note shortly before this time a reported approximate load of 120,000+ votes are reported to be brought into the TCF building in Detroit where votes are being counted.) At 6:31 AM EST, we see a SINGLE batch reported of 141,258 votes for Biden, and only 5,968 for Trump, the batch goes 96% Biden, 4% for Trump! Again, absolutely UNBELIEVABLE. Presumably this is the start of what was delivered into the building around 4AM CST! There are numerous batches after this point in time where the batches are reported at the EXACT same split, this time 50.254% Trump to 49.746% Biden, that’s right, precision to the THOUSANTH decimal. At 9:02 AM EST, there are two more large Biden batches counted that give Biden the first lead of election, with 91% of the votes counted and at 9:15 AM EST, Biden leads 49,3% to 49.2%! And from that point on, ALMOST EVERY BATCH is counted as 49% Trump, 50% Biden! 28 of 44 of them!

Again, it is completely INCONCEIVABLE mathematically and statistically that after the switch in the lead to Biden, batches of votes would have exactly the same distribution to both candidates.

What is going on with the data and the votes recorded in the 2020 election?

These patterns observed in multiple states make no logical sense other than that data is being manipulated in the greatest election fraud in world history.

    – Joe Hoft

    1. Pennsylvania can not start counting mail in ballots until 7am on Election Day. Other states can start counting mail in ballots weeks before Election Day.
The majority of mail in ballots were from democratic voters. He majority of in-person Election Day voters were republican. Hence, when the polls closed in Pennsylvania the initial vote counts were from the Election Day in-person voters. The mail in ballot counts didn’t start coming in until either late in the evening of Election Day or the days following.

    2. The vote count went down just as it was predicted to–in-person voting would favor Trump, and was immediately available to be reported. Mail and absentee voting would favor Biden, and would take more time to check, tabulate and report. This went exactly as expected–no fraud involved. Trump was expected to lose, and did lose, and that went exactly as expected, too.

  4. Just think …. If he concedes Pence will be the next President since the other two cannot take the oath of office with out at the same time violating it. And their daily comments shows that is the real truth. They do not support, are not willing to defend much less preserve the Constitution. They would in fact be taking the oath for purposes of evasion. So this would mean instant disappearance of our Constitutiona Repubic and require our military to uphold their oath of office. Or are they like their current leader already sworn to a new allegiance?

    1. Michael, you’re so deep in the rightwing bubble that nothing you wrote here makes any sense to those on the outside.

  5. I would like it if some psychiatrists would write here on the blog and give their assessment or diagnosis of Trump.

    1. They did? Four years ago. Didn’t work then. Won’t influence US Citizens now. As for the programmed collective like you who cares.

    2. “. . . psychiatrists would write here on the blog and give their assessment or diagnosis of Trump.”

Doing so is unethical, and a serious breach of APA standards. To request such a public “diagnosis” is grotesquely irresponsible.

“The Goldwater Rule embodies these concepts and makes it unethical for a psychiatrist to render a professional opinion to the media about a public figure unless the psychiatrist has examined the person and has proper authorization to provide the statement,” said APA CEO and Medical Director Saul Levin, M.D., M.P.A. “APA stands behind this rule.”

  6. Again, Turley is shoveling BS to his Trump base knowing they will believe what they want to believe in. Turley has been complicit in the blatant disregard of facts and the truth. Pulling all the levers of perpetual victimhood that works for the Trump base. In keeping with their delusional chaos filled world of discord and confusion of facts. Trump supporters feel no need of personal responsibly of finding facts on their own, they just blame the media because its not telling them what they want to hear and Turley is not helping at all. Their appalling excuse of living in their own world of alternative facts have come back to haunt them and they don’t like it. Do your own homework and you will see that the truth is there for all to see.

  7. Trump once again demonstrates that he’s a pathological liar and gaslighter:

“In Detroit, there are FAR MORE VOTES THAN PEOPLE. Nothing can be done to cure that giant scam. I win Michigan!”
    https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1329087255168708608

Anyone who wants can look up the numbers. Detroit is part of Wayne County, MI:
https://www.waynecounty.com/elected/clerk/election-results.aspx — click on “2020 November 3rd – General Election, Official Results Summary Report”

878,102 votes were cast out of 1,406,355 registered voters. Almost 1.75 million people live in Wayne County. Only a pathological liar or an innumerate person would claim that 878K is more than 1.7M.

I don’t understand how so many people are fans of this pathological liar and gaslighter.

    1. Probably because your party programmer tuned you in to say that and by the way where’s the proof commie?

      1. Michael, I already presented proof. Click on the links and see for yourself what Trump falsely claimed and what the actual numbers are for Wayne County registered voters and how many voted.

You need proof of the Wayne County population? Here you go: https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/waynecountymichigan

I’m not a “commie,” and it’s sad that you immediately resort to name-calling instead of dealing honestly with the facts.

    2. Commit, 2 Republican Election Commissioners actually kidded themselves into thinking they could simply disenfranchise one of the nation’s largest majority-Black regions. But the public outcry was so strong that said Commissioners were forced to back-off. However the fact that they even attempted such a move shows how blindly desperate Republicans are.

  8. Congrats, Turley. Your both sidism (shilling for the right) has played cause to the effect you claim. Literally, the only way out of this while still remaining a nation is for there to be an election *month*, 2-3 weeks to tally the votes, and then a 100% release of the voting results at the same time. Will it stop your employers from trying to create an alternate reality? Absolutely not. But the media using partial election results as a way to drum up the drama is something we’ve proven as a nation not to be handle at this particular juncture.

Clearly, you don’t trust my opinion on this…, that’s why I’m so regularly blocked from the comments on this blog. And I clearly don’t trust your take on the matter either. Who is going to reevaluate and adjust a stunningly out of balance electoral college to accurately reflect the will of the voters? Not you. Not your employers…

We’re back to remedial as a nation. Seventy million people voted to continue a policy of ‘punnishing’ the people they most despise. Wasn’t enough for a trump second term, but still a staggering example of how f’d up this country is.

    1. No problem we call out the military to uphold their oath of office, run the communist socialists out since they would be able to write their own laws. Clean up the country and go back to being a Constitutional Republic instead of a new Stalinest slave nation.

      1. It is weird seeing someone advocate a military coupe and also claim to like the Constitution in one post.

  9. It’s jawdropping how quickly the narrative changes from the polls all being wrong to drawing major conclusions from one particular poll. The media got polling wrong? Hannity, Limbaugh, Levin, Hewitt & most of the conservative media predicted Trump would win handily because no one has ever seen the type of enthusiasm he generates. Just before the election, Hannity featured Trafalgar Group’s chief pollster Robert Cahaly who guaranteed Trump would be re-elected & win Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Georgia & Arizona.

Turley predictably goes after his favorite punching bag, the media, & remains stone cold silent about Trump firing the director of Homeland Security cyber security for telling the truth: “There is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes, changed votes, or was in any way compromised.” Trump insists the election had massive fraud. Judging by posts from Trump supporters on this blog, Turley can be comforted by his loyal base ignoring any media reports showing no evidence of massive voter fraud.

Turley misses a very simple point. CNN averages 2 million viewers. NBC, ABC, & CBS average around 7 – 8 million viewers. 153 million Americans voted in the 2020 election. Do the math. A tiny fraction of voters watch CNN, NBC, ABC, & CBS. Why should Turley let that derail his ongoing narrative about the influence of the hated mainstream media on 153 million voters?

    1. Turley’s lame partisan BS is hardly worth noting anymore Race, but you raise numbers making this column particularly irrelevant,

    2. It isn’t the main stream media it’s o100% the left wing media and pure Marxist

    3. All of them don’t add up to Fox.That way you didn’t list there figures? And WHERE is the resource or source for the numbers you show and why should we pay attention to personal opinion of one of the Comrades?

    4. Why not wait until the process been completed to see what the evidence verifies instead of leaping to unsubstantiated conclusions based on media bias. As Launcelot said in the Merchant of Venice; ” The truth will out.”

  10. Trump should *never* concede — under any circumstances. Doing so would only give moral sanction to an election that would make a tin-pot dictator proud.

    1. Trump should never concede because the election was fraudulent. I know Mr.Turley doesn’t believe that not allowing meaningful monitoring of the ballots and preventing people form entering under a court order don’t matter, but they do. It is shady, they know it was shady when they did it, and the result is we can NEVER trust those ballots from those polling stations. Those ballots should be thrown out. Just allowing people in the building is not allowing poll watchers, it is allowing spectators. Poll watchers are the referees of the game and need access to the field of play, they are not the spectators in the stands. So if they were not allowed to inspect then they are by definition NOT a poll watcher. I’m sure there were janitors they let in the building as well, are they poll watchers?

      1. Steve, poll watchers of both parties were present at all locations, a fact attested to by responsible Republicans. Someone is selling you a pile of crap and you’re buying it.

        1. Doesn’t matter when you don’t believe in the piles of illegal votes scattered around the country. But then your kind want the Constitution to vanish and have all of live as the new version of the USSR? Every word from Trumps mouth supports a switch to pure Communism. Up yours Comrade

          1. Are you dim. The left openly advocates for communism and socialism and you say it is Trump. I don’t know how to help you if you are that dumb.

        2. Not buying it at all. Your party truth of the day is easy to see for what it is Comrade Collective.

        3. yes, present. I didn’t say they weren’t. I think you need to go reread my comment.

      2. You are making a distinction between a poll watcher and a ‘challenger’. They are different. A poll watcher is in fact a spectator. Challengers have to be appointed by political parties but even challengers are not allowed to touch ballots. There are specific guidelines for poll watchers and challengers in each state. All the guidelines are available online for each state.

    2. and Biden is proving every day he is pro socialist communist and has no intention of looking at the Constitution again much less following the OAth of office he will falsely take.

  11. Biden bears most of the blame. He could have handled this totally different and set the tone for everyone else instead of creating a weird Office of the Transitional President or whatever such nonsense he’s come up with. The slobbering media treat him like a two year old.

      1. CTHD, I didn’t say that a transition team was wrong.I said the Office of blah blah was wrong. With a shield that is attempting to look like a presidential one. Come on, man!

          1. Jan 11 is after the votes had been certified and the electoral college had already met. Totally different.

            1. Is that DV?

If so, your initial claim was that Biden shouldn’t be “creating a weird Office of the Transitional President or whatever such nonsense he’s come up with.” Are you now saying that it’s not a weird Office / isn’t nonsense, as long as it’s after the EC has met?

            2. That is when the pic was taken. Trump established the office in November, as was proper.

    1. Seig us no Heils Comrade Collective how is being a communist slave? Is it working for you?
