A Los Angeles Times opinion column is firing up the Internet after Virginia Heffernan wrote about her anguish in not knowing how to respond to neighbors cleared the snow on her driveway. They problem is that they also voted for former President Donald Trump. The column entitled “What can you do about the Trumpites next door?” explores her struggle with how to respond while comparing all Trump supporters to Nazis and Hezbollah. It is unfortunately hardly surprising to see such unhinged hateful comparisons in today’s age of rage. What was surprising is need to publish such a column containing gratuitous attacks on over 70 million voters as comparable to genocidal murders or terrorists.
While most of us would find a thank you as natural and immediate, Heffernan explores her struggle in decision how to respond: “Of course, on some level, I realize I owe them thanks — and, man, it really looks like the guy back-dragged the driveway like a pro — but how much thanks? These neighbors are staunch partisans of blue lives, and there aren’t a lot of anything other than white lives in the neighborhood.” She notes that Hezbollah “also gives things away for free” but “The favors Hezbollah does for people in the cities Tyre and Sidon probably don’t involve snowplows, but, like other mafias, Hezbollah tends to its own — the Shiite sick, elderly and hungry.”
Under the guise of working through these issues, the column seems more of a vehicle for suggesting Trump voters are little better than terrorists and murderers. It matter-of-factly treats such references as obvious or plausible comparisons. There is less evidence of honest internal debate as much as satisfaction in being able to demean and marginalize almost half of the electorate.
While many members and newspapers have heralded the Biden election as a chance for healing, there is little evidence of a real desire for many to bring the country together, even at the modest cost of gracefully accepting a nice gesture in the form of a snow shoveling. The fact is that people are addicted to rage. Many continue to use Trump as a license to hate, even portraying such hate as virtuous. It is so consuming that even kindness from a neighbor is treated as a moral dilemma.

Arrogant views of an angry, mean spirited, miserable woman!! Amazing response to a sincere, genuine act of kindness.
This is a valid concern. Trumpism is horrible, and based on selfishness, racism, white nationalism, and a general disregard for others. So when they support Trump, they are supporting his destructive policies. Don’t forget that he tried hard to get the election thrown out and get appointed as an unelected president. But sometimes Trumpers do nice things, they can, if you talk to them about non-politics, appear to be normal people. So how do you reconcile this? It is an issue that a good chunk of America has.
This is just a specific example of the overall dilemma about how do you interact with someone who is nice to you, but holds values that you find to be abhorrent. The exact same issue comes up outside of Trumpism, or even politics.
It’s not difficult if you’re not a raging narcissist. When you live in a free society, you’re going to have people that see the world differently than you. It’s not rational to believe the human kindness that would inspire someone to shovel your driveway is rooted in some sinister nature. God forbid you just thank them, lest you become infected with whatever informs their worldview. 😱
I would suggest reading the parable of the good Samaritan.
Or that of the sheep and the goats in Matthew 25:31-46
You appear to be under the delusion that a good person is someone who shares your beleifs.
Rather than someone who acts morally.
You and Virginia are the Pharisees, while those “hateful, hating hater” Trump supporters are the samaritans.
More actual good was done by the person who cleared her driveway, than by anything she has ever written.
Those you accuse of being Nazi’s, Racists, … are in arguably good people – you are not.
“You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?
Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.
Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
Therefore by their fruits you will know them.”
Go plow someone’s driveway.
Molly: “how do you interact with someone who is nice to you, but holds values that you find to be abhorrent.”
****
I was wondering that about you. You seem to present yourself as a Brownshirt Fascist.
This is a valid concern. Trumpism is horrible, and based on selfishness, racism, white nationalism, and a general disregard for others.
You’re not the most insightful of persons.
😃 no kidding. She comes up with that garbage to slander someone that demonstrated the exact opposite her characterization.
Molly……….I’m guessing it’s Opposite Day at St. Elizabeth’s?
Molly, I feel so sorry for you that you believe that 70 million Americans are the way you describe. I support Trump and I care about people. I would help you if you were in need and never ask you about your politics. In fact I don’t care how you vote. I see you as a human being created in the image of God and worthy of love, dignity and respect. I am not alone on the conservative side of politics.
There are only two choices:
Half the country is racist, hateful, hating haters.
Half the country is completely clueless about the half they think is racist, hateful hating haters.
” Trumpism is horrible, and based on selfishness, racism, white nationalism, and a general disregard for others. It is an issue that a good chunk of America has.”
Why don’t you make an argument rather than just maligning people.
You could start by defining what you mean by “trumpism” ?
What are the specific policies that you disagree with and why are they “racist or …” ?
Make actual arguments, rather than toss out perjroatives without context.
As an example we heard rants about Trump’s treatment of illegal immigrants at the border.
Biden is already facing a predicatable increase in illegal crossings.
Biden has replaced Obama’s chain link cages for children with plexiglass ones. Does that mean they are no longer cages for children ?
As is typical the left is fixated on appearances not success.
Biden is building tent cities to house the influx.
Record numbers of unaccompanied minors are crossing in the expectations of “amensty”
Policies have consequences.
You claim Trump was evil for rejecting the election results.
2022 is coming – if republicans decide to thwart election fraud in big cities by flooding them with ballots – is that OK with you ?
Are we obligated to count every vote ? Or count every legitimate vote ? Which is it ?
And who gets to decide ?
Following the rules in place in 2020, I would have no problem at all personally dumping
hundreds of thousands of ballots undetectably into Philadelphia.
Are you OK with that ?
You claim Trump did not “prove fraud” – fine. If that is the standard. So be it. I expect the courts to compel Philadelphia to count all the ballots that someone with less scruples than I force on Philadelphia because following the 2020 rules you will never be able to “prove fraud”
Whether you like it or not we are all entitled to challenge the system. It is a right to challenge elections – not merely of candidates, but of all of us.
Government is actually obligated to earn our Trust. It is not entitled to it.
Elections are not inherently legitimate.
You’re a brainwashed moron if you actually believe that and should be exterminated.
Democrats are the party of totalirtarianism and censorship.
I would ask if she has a spouse.
The next question has that person contemplated murder or suicide to get away
Her husband is one David J. Samuels. By some accounts, there are three children. He’s in the same line of work she’s in and is the spawn of the same Ivy League milieu. I’ll wager that after 17 years he satisfied with her.
She started out wrong. A NAzi is a right wing socialist and therefore in league with those who voted for Biden. Then I saw California and that explained it all. Illiterate with no education.
What aspect of Nazism is “right” ?
They certainly were not advocates of limited government.
They were not advocares or individual rights.
They were big on claiming victim status.
What core values do nazi’s share with the right ?
NAZI — National SOCIALIST German WORKERS Party. Socialist to the core.
There seems no end to the dichotomy that a conservative might do something nice and not care about your political views but on the liberal side one can’t care until they know how you think. And people like Ms. H would never consider doing something nice for you until she knew where you stood on political issues. One side sees the humanity in all individuals and cares, the other sees no humanity in people who don’t believe as they do. But isn’t this the point of labels? You don’t have to care about people you have labeled as unworthy of your attention.
You might put it that way. Virginia Heffernan is the issue of a faculty subculture and both she and her husband have spent their lives in word-merchant occupations. High school never ends for such people.
Virginia Heffernan sounds like some of my own Democrat relatives and former friends. Over the years, they’ve become increasingly prejudiced and ignorant about what Republicans stand for. One confidently told me my child was born racist because he’s white and male. My kid who never cared about race any more than hair color, and who happily played with black kids.
It’s like they’re brainwashed, and they don’t want to learn. I turn on CNN or MSNBC, or read an article or two from the NYT or LAT, and am appalled at what people accept without question.
This is just a schtick to get Democrat votes. It’s not true. You’re being used as suckers.
Limited government and strong individual rights are at the core of conservative values. That’s the opposite of Fascism.
Most legal immigration is non white. Urging immigration to go through legal channels, in numbers our infrastructure and environment can handle is therefore not xenophobic or racist.
Noting that the biological advantages of biological males makes it a form of cheating when transgender females compete in women’s sports is not transphobia. Identity is performative or behavioral, not biology. Standing up for girls to have their own biological sports division is about fairness, not hate. Wear what you want. March to your own tune. It’s everyone’s personal right to say whether they believe identity changes one’s gender or not, or what pronoun to use to refer to people. I call Ru Paul “she” when he’s in drag, and “he” when he’s not. But I know he’s a gay man, and no proposed law would change that. Granted, he’s not transgender, and doesn’t care what anyone calls him as long as they just call him, but I would apply the same line of thinking. I would call a transgender “she” if it looked like they were going for a female vibe, but that’s my choice. But I’m not going to be forced into using 75 different pronouns, and I use a biology standpoint in reference to gender. Pronoun for identity, biology for gender. Why does the transgender movement appear to say that only transgenders get a choice?
I believe I understand that Democrats think they are doing what’s right. They think that Republicans are repressive, don’t care about the poor or other races. They think the only way to take care of people is to tax the snot out of everyone and spend wildly. They believe in better living cradle to grave through big government. They don’t think they’re doing wrong. While I think their good intentions are leading them to actions that will usher in yet another Leftist dictatorship, they don’t see it that way. A lot of bad things have been done with good intentions.
I don’t think Democrats are evil; just that they’re wrong, and have bought into propaganda. It’s frustrating to watch intelligent, kind people start saying things like the right are all racist Nazi Fascists. They say hateful things to relatives and friends that would have been impossible 20 years ago. They say racist things against whites without any introspection. It makes me wonder at their judgement. I’ve spoken with people who are members of Antifa. They deny the trend in violence, or blame it on the fringe. They passionately believe they are fighting oppression, and only oppose bad people. Every one I’ve spoken with has zero interest in learning about the other side. They fling out accusations instead of discuss. It’s got a very cult like mentality.
The ironic thing is that both Left and Right are doing their best to fight tyranny and racism. They just don’t see it. Nor do they see that bigger government at the expense of individual rights is a surer path to tyranny than limited government and strong personal freedom. The Left views personal freedom as bad – the freedom to say something hateful, freedom to decline custom artistic commissions, freedom to put a cross or Nativity on their lawn, freedom to refer to a transgender by their biological pronoun, freedom to declare they love America.
Personal freedom and free speech means people are going to say and do things you hate sometimes. Tolerance means understanding that and going on about your day.
By teaching the white youth that they are “systemically racist,” the white youth will indeed learn what white inmates in jail do: they might as well be racist, because there is a form of collective self defense in it, and they will be attacked even more if they are not.
It’s time for white folks to abandon the lies of the Enlightenment, and embrace the new ethnocentric logic that is foisted upon us.
White people can and should look to their own legitimate social, economic, and political interests, openly, and without apologizing to our adversaries.
If we are strong, we will find new allies along the way. The old alliances have proven false and useless to boot.
Sal Sar
Been reading your Uncle Adolf’s book again?
See? Fish proves the point. Right on cue, they show up and say, NO! Don’t do that! Go the other way! Keep on failing, only the Democrats can do what works!
Try responding with, “Get out of my house”.
China has 55 different ethnic minorities, who yet only comprise 8.5% of the population.
Imagine if you will, if the political leadership of China, embraced a notion that Han Chinese (the dominant ethny) were bad, & systemically racist?
And what if that leadership emplaced “affirmative action” to benefit the 55 minorities at the expense of the Han Chinese majority?
And welcomed mass migration from all China’s contiguous neighbors?
Would that leadership survive for long?
One wonders how it could have happened in the USA.
I doubt the CCP will make the same mistakes
Republicans, rather than endlessly criticizing the CCP, and demonizing them, should instead consider the sources of their current strong position in their own country, and take obvious lessons.
That is not to say Republicans should cozy up to the CCP: the Democrats have already taken that space. No, I do not mean become allies, I mean, study the rise to power in the Civil War, and how the CCP rallied the Chinese peasants in the middle part of the country against the rich and corrupt and traitorous comprador elites on the coast, and won total victory.
It may mean holding your nose to do such a study I know. We have been taught what a bad fellow Mao was. And perhaps he was: but to the Han Chinese, he is a hero. Consider, why?
This is my contribution to “multiculturalism” and “diversity” for today.
Saloth Sar.
China is incredibly racially discriminatory towards its minorities.
Peoples that to the vast majority of the world look “chinese” are masacred, disefranchised and completely discriminated against.
My daughter was adopted from China – she is NOT Hahn Chinese – but that is what her passport says.
Because only Hahn chinese children were available for foriegn adoption.
When we filled out her passport Application we noted her brown hair and brown eyes. The chinese officials changed it to black hair with black eyes. Hahn Chinese do not have brown hair or brown eyes.
My daughter is 23 her hair is brown, her eyes are brown. her skin is darker than most chinese. She looks asian, but not chinese.
But she was born in China, and according to her passport Hahn Chinese.

“Limited government and strong individual rights are at the core of conservative values”
Conservative values have failed. Government restraint is out the window. Winning is more important than restraint at this juncture. To keep on losing spells doom.
Do you think that the pioneers did not want the US Cavalry to ride to their rescue when being raided, scalped and enslaved by Indians? Of course they did. As the situation decays, we want effective government that secures our rights and does not always fail because it is too small and too weak.
Individual rights are also a fallacy. They undermine every sort of effective political organizing.
“Conservatives” have nothing left to conserve except a fictitious dream of what once was and now is gone.
The people who have been failed by conservatives, need to be lead by stronger people
Worrying about a “fascism” that was defeated in war 75 years ago is also pointless. It is counterproductive. Worry about living to see the next day before you worry about refighting WWII.
Saloth Sar
Let me be even more blunt. “Limited government” as a shibboleth of the American right, has been a rear-gauard strategy that has been failing since FDR.
What an effective leadership would actually want, is control of as much government as they could handle.
That’s what FDR wanted and got and used. And every winning faction since him.
That’s what Democrats want. Why? Duh. It is elementary. We want more power not less. We want as much as we can handle without empowering our rivals.
Hence, the only limitations cunning, ruthless, real world winners see on “power,” are prudential. What can be used against them if they drop the ball, is usually the main limitation.
It’s time for Republicans to grow up, forget the failed strategies of the past, do not retreat into fantasies that the current Democrat leadership shares any “values” with you at all.
They are utterly cynical and ruthless and not hampered or hindered by the same sorts of scruples that “conservatives” have used as excuses for failure for decades.
Sal
You can rant as you please.
The more government you have the slower the rate of improvement in standard of living.
The data to support this is incredible, it is robust across centuries and accross countries and political systems.
F’.. off, kurtz, you racist reactionary. The disastrous past you wish would return isn’t happening here or anywhere. Worst of luck signing people up for your suicide pact. No danger you win, only that abet more suffering.
If you’re a Republican and question the election, you’re a “domestic terrorist.”
If you’re a Republican and attend a peaceful political rally, you’re a “domestic terrorist.”
If you plow your neighbor’s driveway, you’re a “domestic terrorist.”
I think there’s a pattern here.
Amen and Awomen.
The woman who wrote that opinion piece is a classic example of a malignant narcissist who is so completely enamored with everything about who she thinks she is, that she actually believes that by “Politely, but not profusely, I’ll acknowledge the Sassian move. With a wave and a thanks” is an act that deserves her own self-aggrandizement in front of the readers of the LA Times.
Of course she does that while knowing that the neighbors who removed the snow from her driveway will end up reading her article, and therefore be properly put in what she perceives to be their “place” below her in her imaginary hierarchy.
So what she’s really saying is; “I would never do that for you”, because I never do anything for anyone unless it provides immediate benefits to me.
IOW, she is a Hillary Clinton clone.
Shovel some snow.
Work for some dough.
Casey Jones better…watch your speed!
Snowballs ahead…ice left behind..
The sidewalks still dangerous and might break your hind!
If she were to slip and fall on the driveway that her neighbor had cleared for her I have no doubt that she would hobble to her favorite member of the plaintiff’s bar and sue the neighbor for damages alleging that his trespass caused her injury.
So much to ‘unpack.’
Heffernan begins with a spurious claim that the “Trumpites next door to our pandemic getaway . . . seem as devoted to the ex-president as you can get without being Q fans.” She might immediately want to check her privilege (who has a “pandemic getaway” other than the very privileged?) and her logic (“Q fans” are the only true Trumpites, but others can be as well?). She is already off to a dubious start since a lot of “Trumpites” supported Trump becaue he was not Biden, not because they believe in conspiracy theories.
If there are only “white lives” in her neighborhood, perhaps she should consider why she is there, and if she thinks that she owes thanks “on some level,” she needs a course in manners. Perhaps she could do the obvious, and ‘tip’ her neighbor.
She is correct that in the city (L.A.? San Francisco?) they do not plow driveways; they only do that in places it snows, where the privileged have “pandemic getaways.”
Eddie Murphy’s comedy routine is not a sociological study, but she appears to believe that it reveals everything one need know about ‘whites’? So rather than reading serious studies on sociology and social questions, I only need tune in to SNL?
Comparing her neighbors to Hezbollah? Really? Why not the Gestapo? The SS? Hezbollah exists in a particular context that has nothing to do with her neighbors and Donald Trump, both of whom exist in a completely different context.
Who goes to France to study French? None of my school mates had that opportunity, so I guess her white privilege trumps mine. But she appears to have learned nothing that did not confirm her own prejudices. From her glib anecdote, it seems obvious that she has no idea regarding what the Nazi occupation was like, so I would recommend that, as part of her reeducation, she watch Marcel Ophul’s 1971 documentary, The Sorrow and the Pity, which was an uncomfortable examination of life under occupation. Most Europeans lived under occupation during the war, and most had different political points of view. To resist meant death in most cases, and to support Petain was to ‘go along to get along,’ a slogan I suspect she might find familiar.
Heffernan might also want to ask herself how many of her friends would risk their lives to struggle against a brutal occupation when most of them would not risk losing their jobs to protect a coworker being cancelled by the current crop of politically correct censors. Indeed, I wonder how she would behave should ISIL form a chapter in her neighborhood and rather than plowing her driveway, insist she take the veil and pay homage to Allah.
Given her smug attitude toward people she clearly does not know well, I wonder if this woman is capable of baking a plate of cookies, since she seems incapable of even the most common human decency toward her neighbors.
Her claim that her neighbors supported “a man who showed near-murderous contempt for the majority of Americans” is a figment of her fevered imagination, as is her belief that there was an “insurrection” on January 6. I imagine she thinks AOC was really in danger. But these are Democratic talking points, not historical realities. The real damage done to the United States over the past four years has been the work of those in a “Resistance” which refused to recognize the results of the 2016 election (#not mypresident) and a virus made in China. January 6 was a protest that got out of hand and became a riot, and the virus has been less damaging to those under 65 than the reactions to it, which have included a lot of speculation, assumptions, and assertions parading as “the” science.
If she wants to work for justice for those harmed over the past four years, she need only look in a mirror and begin to correct the image she sees there.
I come from a place in the Midwest where snow drifts could be as high as five feet and temperatures as low as minus 35, so I would have thanked my neighbor if he had plowed my driveway after a heavy snow, even he is believed something that I did not and even if I disagreed with his politics, his choice of religion, or his fashion sense.
Get a grip, lady!
Great post, Old Guy.
She grew up in Hanover, NH, which suggests she’s the spawn of Dartmouth faculty. She was in school on and off from 1987 to 2003, which suggests various sorts of financial support, parental and institutional. She earned a PhD from Harvard, then never landed an academic job. Both she and her husband are journeyman magazine writers with no regular employment. That she has two homes to boot provide you with three data points which suggests she and her husband have a considerable private income. I don’t recall that C.K. Dexter Haven wrote articles cutting up his neighbors. We’ve been in decline for some time.
Life isn’t “All or Nothing at All” — listen to the Sinatra lyrics and relax.
Well justtry it.
This is so weird. Doesn’t it occur to her–or anyone that it might not be about any sort of politics?
Regardless of his politics, he is probably just a decent guy who decided to clean her driveway and didn’t care what her politics were.
Who can say whether he will do it again though?
One bit of irony is that leftists like the “columnist” who authored the insane column in question love to call others analogous to members of Hezbollah and yet they favor relations and aid for Iran…a nation that actually does support Hezbollah.
I sympathize with Virginia. It is hard to reconcile the reality that people you thought were monsters can be pretty nice sometimes. What ever happened to being able to be civil to people who have political views with which you disagree?
The extended hand for reconciliation goes both ways my friend. This is a nation of diversity. We have gotten along for hundreds of years by agreeing to disagree but working together to make our world a better place in spite of our differences. There are two sides of the story. The right sees your side as one who has tried to divide our nation since day one of Trump’s term in office. In our eyes you are the ones who brought about the raid on the Capital by your decision to bring him down by any means necessary including destroying our nations ability to work together to make our country better for everyone. Your only focus has been to divide and conquer. The people from your point of view showed your frustration by rioting and destroying business, monuments, etc. Did you really not expect the same frustration to not go both ways. Surely someone as well spoken as yourself has the ability to stand back and look at the facts both good, bad and ugly with an open mind and without any preconceived ideas and decide for yourself if things could have been done differently on both sides of the aisle. Please don’t get me wrong although I voted for Trump their were many times I would have liked to put a muzzle on him and take away his social media sites but that also could have applied to the left as well. I in no way supported the attack but I could see it coming as anyone with common sense should have been able to do. It’s time we stopped this “If I can’t have my way I’ll just take my toys and go home” attitude and start making an effort to work together for the good of this great nation and it’s people. While we are fighting within our enemies are getting ready to pounce and laughing at us for making their job so easy. As Abraham Lincoln said “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” Your neighbor has made the first move in trying to bring the people of this great nation back together. Now it’s your turn!
dponder, your brief history and assumptions about me are both lacking. Speaking of agreeing to disagree, unlike your leader in the last election, mine in 2016 conceded the next day, called Trump to wish him well, and showed up at the inauguration out of respect for the country, while the incumbent welcomed he and his wife yo the WH and fully granted all access necessary for a smooth transition. My leaders in Congress actually joined with Republicans to vote for some legislation in the nation’s interest in Trump’s term – something your party refused with Obama while they racked up more filibusters than in the last 75 years of our history and even stole a SC seat from him. My congressional leaders did not run on or advocate for impeachment of Trump until his corrupt use of his unique powers for his own political ends became public.
As to me and all the left posters here, and unlike maybe half the righties, we don’t advocate killing those on the other side or talk about juvenile fantasies of secession, Keep in mind that we practiced this restraint with full knowledge that for the 2nd time in 16 years we had won the vote of the people but lost the vote of the EC.
I welcome your comments on anything in the future and let’s agree to not advocating either of our deaths.
As to me and all the left posters here, and unlike maybe half the righties, we don’t advocate killing those on the other side or talk about juvenile fantasies of secession
You’re not very bright. The fact that you don’t talk about secession reflects the fact that you’re the persecutors, not the persecutees.
Oh how you suffer William! Losing an election and all, after holding the WH for most of this century under the same conditions. To think the people actually got to pick their leader for a change. It’s inhuman what you must go through.
JF – keep playing this game. if youi think that you won the election – read the Time article. Celebrate it if you wish.
Then imagine that in all future elections Republicans choose the same tactics or, permutations thereof. The same ends justifies the means approach. That republicans are as willing to use threats coercion violence, censorship, lawlessness.
Look to the past – you said Republicans fillibustered Obama more than any prior president – true, but that did not start with Obama, and Democrats fillibustered Trump almost twice as much in 4 years as Obama was in 8.
Some of the techniques democrats used in 2020, can not be reproduced by republicans – Big Tech is not likely to silence democrats at the demand of republicans. But when the ends justify the means – when politics becomes “Saving the Republic, by any means necescary”, do you have any doubt that some republicans can not find similar tactics that are as or more effective ?
Return to
“A government of laws, and not of men.”
John Adams
When the law is not what it plainly says, we are lawless.
You have done that.
Filibuster happens only in the Senate, which was controlled by the GOP since 2015.
So ?
Filibusters are a tactic of the MINORITY party.
“your brief history and assumptions about me are both lacking.”
You are remarkably lacking in self awareness.
Even people like Van Jones concluded that Trump’s election was the backlash of a majority of americans for being called hateful, hating haters.
“mine in 2016 conceded the next day, called Trump to wish him well, and showed up at the inauguration out of respect for the country”
And then spent the next four years claiming that Trump was elected as a result of russian collusion.
WORSE Clinton herself KNEW better as she was the one who actually colluded with Russia to sell the russian disinformation about collusion.
As to 2020 – read the damn Times article – written by the LEFT. While the article does not openly admit election fraud, and spins malfeasance as virtue, it is still damning.
Do you have the slightest doubt that the people who ADMIT to all of what they did in that article, would have no moral problems at all committing election fraud to “save the democracy” ?
Again the lack of self awareness is unbeliveable The article makes it clear that lying, bullying, intimidation, censorship, threats of violence and actual violence were the tools to force the desired election outcome.
o
And BTW apparently all of this is ongoing – now the threat is that if those on the left who beleive they delivered the election to Biden do not get what they want – Democarats – rather than republicans will be the targets of more riots.
Some have argued that the razor wire arround the capital is as much about concern regarding the left than a return of the capital protestors
Regardless, read the article. You can decide these people are hero’s if you want – but you can not duck the fact that the ends justified the means, and they would have had no problem committing election fraud.
I have mostly focused on the lawlessness – and in this article that is openly admitted. Not only was Covid, but massive amounts of money, violence and intimidation used to push governors to act lawlesly and courts to give their impratur to lawlessness.
Again, there is no reason to doubt that if fraud was necescary it was done.
“while the incumbent welcomed he and his wife yo the WH and fully granted all access necessary for a smooth transition.”
While at the same time plotting with DOJ, FBI to undermine the Trump administration from the very start.
This was not a “smooth transition” – it was the most vile thing any outgoing president has ever done.
“My leaders in Congress actually joined with Republicans to vote for some legislation in the nation’s interest in Trump’s term”
Like what ?
“something your party refused with Obama while they racked up more filibusters than in the last 75 years of our history ”
There were 15 fillibusters of Clinton, 39 of Bush, 175 of Obama, and 314 of Trump.
Do not play holier than thou.
“even stole a SC seat from him.”
Nope,
“My congressional leaders did not run on or advocate for impeachment of Trump until his corrupt use of his unique powers for his own political ends became public.”
I note that you do not offer the actual justification for impeachment – because those were frauds.
“Your President” conducted an actual invectigation of an opposition candidate with the thinest of justificatstiions and did not end it when that justification vaporized.
Trump quietly asked for an investigation into conduct that is clearly unethical and possibly criminal.
You seem to think that your $hit does not stink and that no one is permitted to investigate democrats. Like it or not there is plenty to investigate regarding the Bidens. The only question is why we do not have an SC already.
“As to me and all the left posters here, and unlike maybe half the righties, we don’t advocate killing those on the other side or talk about juvenile fantasies of secession, ”
You don’t ?

“Keep in mind that we practiced this restraint with full knowledge that for the 2nd time in 16 years we had won the vote of the people but lost the vote of the EC.”
No you did not.
It is because you can say things like this, that you are not trusted.
“I welcome your comments on anything in the future and let’s agree to not advocating either of our deaths.”
Why should anyone beleive you ?
You do not speak the truth. It is clear from your own post that you are clueless. That you either are unaware of reality or deliberately distort it.
I have not advocated for your death. Nor has anyone else to my knowledge.
Nor that of democrats, nor violence to them.
But not merely have those on the left done so, but so have their leaders.
Regardless, THIS is my agreement.
“To be, or not to be, that is the question:
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take Arms against a Sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them”
There is absolutely nothing that I advocate for that democrats and those on the Left did not do first.
But make no mistake – turn about is fair play. Whatever tactics those on the left and democrats have employed – those are the new norms.
Further I expect republicans to do them bigger and better.
You do not get to burn everything down and then plead for peace.
You want peace REPENT.
Join the demands to end the censorship. To end the violence, to end the lying.
To win debates by persuasion – not coercion. Insults. Intimidation. lawlessness.
To conduct elections according to the law and constitution -and if you do not like those to change those laws through legislation not judicial or executive fiat.
To do nothing to others that you would not want your worst enemy to do to you.
“They treated my people’s wound superficially, crying, ‘Peace, peace,’ when there is no peace.

Jonathan, you ever read comments on your own site? You’d be shocked, shocked I tell you, to know that probably half of your regular right wing commenters – as well occasional drive-bys – regularly express contempt and hate for Biden voters, Democrats, and leftists – you know, most Americans – up to and including the necessity of shooting them and secession.
We know victimhood is the preferred stance of right wing white people, but come on. Must you always stir that pot? This column is MAGA porn and you know it.
regularly express contempt and hate for Biden voters, Democrats, and leftists – y
No, Mr. Narcissist. We express contempt for you because of your mendacity, your exercises in self-aggrandizement, your resort to accusation, your habit of linking to source material you misrepresent. We express contempt for Natacha because all she does is recycle shrewish material laden with false statements. We laugh at Paint Chips because he’s a purely conventional thinker who fancies it apposite to cut and paste passages from liberal birdcage liners INTRODUCED WITH ALL CAPS.

Do you think that Turley would be shocked, shocked I tell you, that most of the regular left wing commenters regularly express contempt and hate for Trump voters?
It is ironic that you failed to recognize the normalized slander of Republicans as Nazis that formed the subject of this blog post.
Democrats are not afraid to leave the house wearing political clothing all across America.
Democrats are not harassed, or afraid they will be punished with lower grades, for expressing their politics on college campuses across America.
Democrats are not screamed at by Republicans in restaurants across America.
Youtube, Twitter, Facebook, do not cooperate to censor and deplatform Democrats.
Google’s search engine deliberately promotes search findings that are beneficial to Democrats and harmful to Republicans, while burying findings that are helpful to Republicans.
There is no “both sides do it” not to this extent. Both sides have lost all common ground, it is true. The Left thinks America is a white supremacist racist country and darn Capitalism. The right is patriotic, feels blessed to live in the Western nation with the most individual freedoms anywhere on planet Earth. Both sides feel the other will usher in tyranny. Both sides dislike the other at this point.
The difference lies in the fact that Big Tech has allied with almost all mainstream media, Hollywood, Pre-K through grad school education system, and Democrat politicians to usher in a single party state. It’s Big Brother, Little Brother, and a couple of Cousins thrown in to the Leftist hegemony. There is no such conglomerate on the right.
Republicans seek limited government and strong individual rights. It is literally impossible for Fascism to exist in such a system.
Democrats seek strong government, and erodes individual rights (such as the right to refuse to custom bake a Satanic cake). Fascism requires a strong government and weakened individual rights for the “greater good”, in this case defined as globalism, fighting anthropogenic climate change, racism, etc.

20 divided by 0 equals “probably half”. Nice job!

Please be aware that Democrats have portrayed Republicans as Fascists, Nazis, who want to throw Grandma off a cliff and make poor kids starve for decades. The propaganda has been vicious and long lasting.
Any claim that Trump ushered in rage or division is contrary to the facts. What Trump did do is sling the mud back, which came as a shock to Democrats.
While they continue to call us Nazis, they fail to make the connection between their own hateful rhetoric, and the division they accuse Trump and his voters.
I hope it is becoming obvious to more Democrats that Republicans are not, in fact, Fascists or Nazis or trend racist. This would put their own behavior and name calling in a very negative light, if they ever realize they’ve been wrong all these years.
Poor you Karen. And here you are, always fair and open minded with no stereotyping or blanket denunciations of your perceived political enemies.
Wait a minute! That’s pretty much all you do.
joe friday:
I have indeed become quite hardened in my opinion of the Democrat Party as a whole. It troubles me, but there is no denying the facts that convinced me of these trends.
I have watched formerly moderate Democrat friends and family devolve into political poisoning, calling their Republican relatives and friends Nazis, racists, white supremacists, just for voting for Trump. This is nation wide.
I have watched the school system, all the way through grad school, become increasingly politicized Left.
I have seen the normalization of Democrats calling Republicans Nazi Fascist racists for decades. This has culminated in more recent slurs like white supremacist and white facility.
I have observed the normalization of misandry, racism against whites, and giving a pass to discrimination against Asians in college admissions and high schools (see Turley’s other article today).
Identity politics are by definition racist and prejudiced. It judges people on the basis of skin color, gender, and sexual orientation. If this doesn’t appall you, why not?
Democrats burned and looted cities, and just threatened to burn down DC yesterday. They burned a police precinct, seized city blocks. But we were all gaslighted that it was mostly peaceful, a form of reparations, or the language of the unheard. Meanwhile, one single small group broke into the Capital building which resulted in deaths. This was roundly condemned by Republicans. But Democrats who called their own violence a summer of love and change, sanctimoniously called Republicans terrorists.
Democrats would make my son feel guilty for being born, and limit his opportunities.
Democrats have normalized the literal castration of boys and sterilization of girls, encouraging gender dysphoria. For those who disagree, what else would you call the universal affirmation of children who claim to be another sex instead of simply waiting to see if it is a phase? For the most part, it is, but in the rush to mutilate children and pump them full of puberty blockers, the damage is done. Gender dysphoria is exploding at levels never before seen.
The kids of Democrat families ran around the playground asking which kids liked Trump, and then called them racists.
The Left oppose free speech, is openly bigoted against Christians (but not Muslims, out of self preservation?), opposes the 2nd Amendment, and the Electoral College. One tick mark after another against the Constitution.
I truly believe the Left is busily pushing totalitarianism. Once we give rights away, we may never get them back.
Funny thing is, the Left thinks the right is totalitarian. I feel like shaking them, and reminding them we’re for individual rights and limited government, you blockhead. That’s the opposite of Fascism. But no matter what a Republican says, a Democrat will just ignore it and say, so basically, you’re a racist.
You’ll probably just ignore these points and think to yourself, what a racist.
Every political party has its problems, it’s lunatics. But Democrats are in deep denial about the inevitable conclusion to these actions.
I am sick of hearing Republicans called racist Nazis. It is offensive to the highest degree. If it bothers you that I don’t find those people nice, or make excuses for them any more, so be it.
If you don’t want Republicans to despise your party, start by no longer calling 75 million people racist, Fascists, etc, and argue with fellow Democrats when you hear them do so 75 times a day.
Where have you been living?
In the animal kingdom, mothers of offspring who are sick and not quite right eat them. Dems wouldn’t last long.
