The recently released video of a NYPD officer being dragged by a fleeing suspect took an even more controversial turn when it was disclosed that the suspect was out on bond despite being charged with attempted murder. Takim Newson’s earlier release by a judge is baffling given the alleged crime and Newson’s prior criminal record.
Newson, 32, was stopped by police officers after he doubled parked on a busy street and the car had heavily tinted windows. The officers noted that his speech was slurred and Newson admitted to smoking marijuana. He was told by the officer that he was not under arrest but they asked him to get out of the car. He then threw the car in reverse and dragged the officer.
After the traffic stop, Newson is accused of breaking into a home in Queens and threatening a 66-year-old woman by pretending he had a gun. He then left without taking anything and allegedly stole a Jaguar sedan. He was finally apprehended in Suffolk County, Long Island, according the New York Post.
What is surprising is the fact that he was out after an arrest in February without bail. Newson is accused to shooting a person in the groin during an attempted Valentine’s Day robbery at a Queens bar. Prosecutors demanded that he remain in jail pending trial. His lawyer was asking for $50,000 bail. However the court reportedly released him without bail even though he was arrested after fleeing the scene.
According to media reports, Newson served a 3½-year prison sentence for an armed robbery in Nassau County before being paroled in 2011. He was also accused of shooting at police officers in 2008 and another shooting in 2011.
The New York Post reports that Newson is a reputed member of the Edgemere Crew gang. The judge in Queens was Judge Denise Johnson who was rated “not approved” by the city Bar Association before her election November. She ran unopposed for the judicial seat. The not approved rating was due to the fact that Johnson failed to submit information and papers for review by the Bar.

Thanks to Gascon and Newsom here in CA, cash bail was eliminated. It was portrayed as unfair to those too poor to pay bail. In reality, it was the only means to leverage those released prior to trial to show up, and behave while out.
CA just releases prisoners like a turnstile. Did you finally turn in a domestic abuser? Knock knock. He’s on your doorstep the same day. Did you burn down a business and financially ruin an innocent person. That’s cool. You’ll be back on the street to do more damage in a few hours.
If you can’t pay the bail, then the Court also holds no leverage over you when you’re released. You’re not concerned your behavior will make you lose money.
Fines for failure to leave the country when your visa runs out have also been abolished. Why not overstay a visa? What’s the downside? This is one of the reasons why I’ve been so frustrated with Democrats for blocking domestic oil production. Biden cancelled the Keystone Pipeline, costing many Canadian jobs. He opposes domestic fossil fuel production. This makes us more dependant on the Middle East. We also have to waste fossil fuel shipping oil to the US. A leak in a tanker is catastrophic, as the Exxon Valdez proved. A leak in a pipeline would have been far easier to cap, with far less environmental damage. Plus, the oil would come from a Western neighbor.
I don’t get criticizing Saudi Arabia, while simultaneously making us more reliant upon OPEC. Solar only works when the sun is shining. Energy storage requires lithium. There isn’t enough lithium in the world to make solar a major energy producer, and mining it is incredibly toxic to the environment. When solar panels are junked, they are usually shipped, using fossil fuels, to India where children pick over the toxic components to scavenge. Wind only works when the wind is blowing, the turbines only last 20 years, and it costs $200,000 to $500,000 to decommission, i.e. “junk” each one. Democrats oppose nuclear energy, which is the only clean, reliable energy source to date. All of this makes us reliant upon fossil fuels that the Left’s NIMBY is determined that we get from the ME.

The judge was most likely looking out for a poor minority who in her opinion deserved another chance . However there will be no justice or equality until both sides gain perspective, sensibility. Oh, just stop. By any existing historical or judicial precedent what President Trump said on January 6 is so well-within constitutional borders as to be unimpeachable. The unlawful acts of persons who were also at the Capitol on January 6 are entirely their own responsibility. Take an aspirin or some other action to cool the fever swamps of your imagination.
