San Francisco Board of Supervisors Unanimously Supports Reparation Payments

We have been following the recommendations of reparations for black residents of San Francisco, including a proposed payment of $5 million per resident payment. The Board of Supervisors met Tuesday and reportedly gave unanimous support for reparations. Among the possible forms of reparations, the Board is considering a guaranteed annual income of $97,000 for 250 years and a home “for just $1 a family.”

The city council voted unanimously to create the reparations committee in 2020. The African American Reparations Advisory Committee voted to give $5 million to each eligible Black resident as reparations.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) created his own Reparations Task Force, which just reached its own recommendations for $223,000 per person. Others have insisted the figure should be $350,000 for individuals and another $250,000 for Black-owned businesses. One California politician insisted the figure needs to be $800,000 per person, reflecting the average cost of a home in the state.

Even Disney has gotten into the act with a controversial children’s episode in which cartoon children demand reparations.

Notably, California’s law expressly states that this money should not be treated as compensation for federal reparations. Some congressional Democrats have pushed for similar federal reparations and passed a bill out of the House Judiciary Committee in 2021 that failed to receive a floor vote. BET founder Robert Johnson has called for $14 trillion in federal reparations.

The proposals now put the San Francisco politicians in a bind after declaring that reparations are a moral imperative. Some are already saying that they will not accept reduced awards. One well-known California activist declared: “It’s a debt that’s owed, we worked for free. We’re not asking; we’re telling you.”

San Francisco is already facing a $728 million budget shortfall.

The Board notably did not approve the proposed $5 million payments and some members issued statements that bordered on the incomprehensible. Supervisor Rafael Mandelman spoke to “those of my constituents who lost their minds about this proposal, it’s not something we’re doing or we would do for other people. It’s something we would do for our future, for everybody’s collective future.

Unpack that for a moment. “It is not something we’re doing . . . it’s something we would do for our future.” That sounds a lot like wanting to be seen as approving reparations while not approving reparations.

Virtue signaling has ended with the formal proposal. If the Board was not playing black voters by dangling the possibility of reparations, it can now prove its commitment by approving these payments. Of course, it would likely bankrupt the city, but that was not a concern when people like Mandelman were declaring their support for reparations. After all, if this is a moral imperative, it would seem that the “future” can’t wait for Mandelman and his colleagues.

  1. Essentially all nations have practiced slavery in the past, including the African tribes who sold the black slaves that came here and elsewhere in the first place. Blacks are lucky to be here and owe a debt to America. It was only white people who ended any of it, no other race tried. There’s no one alive in American that owes any reparations for long gone slavery, and blacks who are demanding it IMO are reprehensible.

  2. When San Francisco becomes irreparably insolvent after implementation, Newsom’s successor, and maybe Biden’s successor, will come to the rescue with a bailout. In the meantime, city services will decline because there is no tax money to pay for them. Will San Francisco eventually become like Gary, Indiana: Camden, New Jersey; Highland Park, Michigan: Oakland, California? By the time this dystopian vision becomes reality, the authors on the Board of Supervisors will be sunning themselves in Palm Springs.

  3. CA was never a slave state. It is patently absurd to bankrupt the state, so taxpayers in a state that never allowed slavery could give money to people based on skin color. This is estimated to cost San Francisco households $600,000 EACH.

How can anyone justify the descendants of a Chinese railroad worker, who was discriminated against, paying reparations to black people? The descendants of Jews who escaped Nazi concentration camps, whites who worked on the Underground Railroad, and the Irish who were enslaved, rather than save owners, will be financially punished for a crime none of them committed.

Slavery was ubiquitous in human history. Native Americans were slave owners before Columbus set foot in the New World. It was Western Civilization that ended slavery within its boundaries. Slavery is still practiced on the African continent, where actual enslaved men, women, and children toil in mines in The Congo to provide Cobalt used to make electric car batteries for the elite to virtue signal.

It is absurd that slavery is the sin that will never be forgiven, but only for the US. Without the West, slavery would likely still be ubiquitous. Rather than applauding Western efforts to end slavery, the West is inexplicably blamed for it.

San Francisco doling out $5 million/black person will bankrupt the city, already infamous for human feces maps. There is also no better way to generate intense racism against black people, than to make whites, Latinos, and Asians pay to make black people millionaires. Everyone was wronged in past history. It cannot be unwound. People should not be financially punished for having a light skin tone.

The far Left ruins everything it touches. We went from a country that had evolved to the point that people just didn’t care about race, for the most part, until BLM and Antifa were burning cities out of racial hatred against whites. Kids don’t play with other kids, now, because they’re white. Blacks have been targeting Asians and Jews, because BLM propaganda marked them as “too successful.”

What’s a poor white person supposed to think, born into poverty, living in a town wrecked by fentanyl, while he sees black people made millionaires because of their skin color? What’s he to make of his supposed “privilege”?

Even if San Francisco does make black people millionaires, it won’t be enough. Activists claim that Union soldiers dying or getting maimed to free the slaves wasn’t enough. Whites risking their lives to help runaway slaves on the Underground Railroad wasn’t enough. The Civil Rights Act wasn’t enough. Nor billions of dollars spent on welfare programs designed to help blacks. Nor all the Affirmative Action, Quotas, diversity hires, or lowering the bar. Electing a black president was supposed to end racism. Then it was having a black VP. Corporations gave over $82 BILLION to BLM. That does not include other business and individual donations. Yet the budget of a small nation appears to have done zero to solve the problems in the black community. Activists are back at it, demanding more, more, MORE! We’ve spent and donated billions and billions of dollars, yet activists still claim the US has done nothing to make reparations for slavey, which was universally accepted at the time. Shall a black slave owner leave Mauritania, arrive in the US, and become a millionaire because he’s been oppressed?

Meanwhile, someone from Thailand can arrive here with $10, work hard, attain a middle class life, and send their kid to medical school, within 15 years, while an 8th generation black citizen is still demanding that white people take care of him because he just can’t possibly be expected to make it. This is the result of the propaganda of apathy and victimhood.

Yeonmi Park escaped North Korea into China, where she was immediately enslaved as a sex slave, at the tender age of 14. She eventually escaped being a slave by walking on foot through the Gobi desert. She’s now very successful. People need to stop making excuses and make something of themselves.

This far Left divisive ideology is pure poison.

  4. There are 2 possible outcomes if this looks close to coming to fruition – 1. Comic – Blacks move to S.F. in droves while everyone else moves out leaving the black taxpayers to pay for the reparations to themselves. – 2. Tragic – S.F. realizes what they’ve done will lead to certain demise of the city, so they renege on their promise and blacks realize they’ve been had and riot and burn S.F. to the ground.

  6. If you are a CA Dem, we better not ever hear you complaining about your budget deficit, lockdowns, taxes, the business exodus, housing prices, etc. YOU elect these people. What are you thinking? As soon as they get their $5m, they’re moving to another state.

  7. The reparations will be given to organizations and groups, not individuals. And surely some of this money will find its way to democrat cadidates. When will the people of this country ever wake up.

  8. On January 1, 1863, all persons not meeting legal criteria and being determined to be ineligible per extant immigration law, may not have been admitted, must have been and must be immediately expelled and repatriated, their previous status as “property” having been altered to that of “illegal alien.”

The Supreme enjoys the power of Judicial Review as demonstrated by the act of Chief Justice Roger B. Taney to strike down Lincoln’s unconstitutional suspension of habeas corpus.

The Supreme Court recently acted retroactively by 50 years to correct the erroneous and corrupt decision of the Supreme Court of 1973 with reference to abortion as a constitutional right.

The Supreme Court must now act retroactively by 150 years to correct the egregious 1863 dereliction and violation of immigration law, per its power of Judicial Review.

An adverse, hostile, foreign, 3-million-man, standing army was illegally, unconstitutionally and treasonously left on American soil in that year.

  9. “The Little-Known Role of Slavery in Viking Society”

“Let it therefore be clearly stated: The Vikings were slavers, and the kidnapping, sale and forced exploitation of human beings was always a central pillar of their culture.”
“One reason why this reality has made so little public impact is that the conventional vocabularies of enslavement—as employed by academics and others working on, for example, the transatlantic trade of more recent centuries—have rarely been applied to the Viking Age. In particular, there is ambiguity in the terminology because a very different word has always been used in place of “slave”: the Old Norse thræll—giving us the modern English “thrall,” which we now use as in being enthralled by a person, a work of art or an idea.
“A judicious combination of archaeological and textual sources can produce a relatively comprehensive picture of Viking slaveholding. One intermediate state of servitude, for instance, was voluntary up to a point, albeit entered into under considerable economic compulsion, such as a means of clearing debts. Certain crimes were also punishable by serving as a thrall for a fixed period of time.
“The Norse system of thralldom was not always complete chattel slavery, but most of the enslaved had little agency. As two prominent Viking scholars observed 50 years ago, “The slave could own nothing, inherit nothing, leave nothing.” They were not paid, of course, but in some circumstances, they were allowed to retain a small portion of the proceeds they obtained at market when selling goods for their owners. As a result, it was technically possible, though rare, for a thrall to purchase his or her freedom. They could also be manumitted, or released from slavery, at any time. Based on these parameters, some scholars have argued that the number of actual enslaved people in Viking Age society was relatively low. But as researchers conduct additional analysis of detailed European records of Viking slave-taking raids, the scale of this trade has been revised sharply upward.
“Some thralls were born into slavery because both of their parents were enslaved, or a freeborn man who had impregnated their enslaved mother declined to acknowledge the child. Others were taken captive, either in raids undertaken specifically for that purpose or as prisoners of war. Though an enslaved individual might pass through many hands in a journey lasting months or years, the experience almost always began with a violent kidnapping. Behind every Viking raid, usually visualized today as an arrow or name on a map, was the appalling trauma visited upon all people at the moment of enslavement, the disbelieving experience of passing from person to property in seconds.
“Not all enslaved people—indeed, perhaps only a small minority—were retained personally by their captors and put to work. The majority entered the wider network of trafficking and were transported to markets and points of sale in settlements across the Viking world and beyond, even reaching the emporia of western Europe. Over time, slaving become arguably the main element of the trade that developed during the Viking Age along the eastern rivers of European Russia and what is now Ukraine. No solid infrastructure of purpose-built slave markets, with auction blocks and the like, existed. Instead, transactions were small-scale but frequent, with one or two individuals sold at a time in any circumstances that seemed viable.”

    1. Another book about slavery of Europeans is Giles Milton, White Gold, The Extraordinary Story of Thomas Pellow and Islam’s One Million White Slaves.

Since this book deals especially with the slave trade in North Africa, it could be argued that people of European descent are entitled to reparations from descendants of Africans. I want a trillion dollars to start with.

      1. African slaves were abducted and sold by African tribal leaders, marketed and shipped by Arab slave traders, and purchased and deployed by British planters.

Less than 4% of Americans participated in the ultimate and inexorable decommissioning of slavery in America, the eventuality of which was fully grasped upon the ratification of the Constitution.

      2. The textbook of Old English which I am currently studying translates the Old English word “esne” as “slave”.

    2. The Greek word for “slave” “doulos” occurs over 100 times in the New Testament. Since the mid-19th century, American abolitionists and those influenced by them have mistranslated it as “servant”. But the word does mean ” slave”. I know. I have a Ph.D. in Classics.

  10. The reparations will be handed out just before the recipient enters the polling booth. This is really all that this is about. You can rest assured that the scammers from BLM will be standing in line to get their share. I guess that those who are only half black will get only half a share. Will DNA tests be required. I can remember when pandering was only done under the table. In those days all it took was an invite to a barbecue and a pint of whiskey. Now listen hear folks you all better not to forget to vote for big pappy.

    1. Maybe all the leftists who made themselves up in blackface in their misspent youths will be eligible if they can provide photo evidence (is that you in line with your hand out Canadian P.M. Trudeau?).

  11. Elon Musk is an African-American. I bet he’s looking forward to receiving 5 million. lol
