I recently wrote a column on how Democrats in California are being challenged to put their money where their mouth has been on reparations. For years, Democrats have insisted that reparations are a moral imperative. Now, however, the bill has come due and advocates in a Wednesday hearing confronted members of the California Reparations Task Force in asking “where’s the money?” Some are now demanding more than $5 million per resident as Reparations Board member Lisa Holder of the Equal Justice Society promised that the committee’s “recommendations will be breathtaking.”
California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) created the Reparations Task Force, which just reached its own recommendations for $223,000 per person. Others have insisted the figure should be $350,000 for individuals and another $250,000 for Black-owned businesses. One California politician insisted the figure needs to be $800,000 per person, reflecting the average cost of a home in the state. In the meantime, a similar board has recommended $5 million payments to eligible residents of San Fransisco.
Notably, California’s law expressly states that this money should not be treated as compensation for federal reparations. That raises the question of whether a resident could receive $5 million from San Francisco, $223,000 from the state, and additional payments from the federal government.
Some congressional Democrats have pushed for similar federal reparations and passed a bill out of the House Judiciary Committee in 2021 that failed to receive a floor vote. BET founder Robert Johnson has called for $14 trillion in federal reparations.
In the hearing on Wednesday, the growing expectation and impatience was evident among witnesses. Yet, some reparations advocates in cities with even smaller reparation programs admit that they do not know how cities will fund the payouts.
One witness described the payments of $5 million per person as “nothing” and “too little.” The correct figure was suggested as more like $7.6 million.
Reverend Tony Pierce asked “Where’s the money? Where’s the cash? Where’s the check?” “$5 million, San Francisco’s already made a move. $5 million is nothing.” Pierce mocked the notion of $5 million if it is “spread over 50 years would only amount to $100,000 year, and then with taxes, you’ll be lucky if you end up with $40,000 a year.” He also rejected the notion of $223,000 for housing as woefully inadequate.
For her part, Holder is pledging “breathtaking” reparation payments, including “monetary compensation to Black people who are descendants of enslaved and persecuted Black Americans.”
Those continued assurances are fueling demands for the money without further delay. After years of being told that the payments are moral imperatives, many are losing patience. In a prior hearing, one well-known California activist declared in a prior hearing that “It’s a debt that’s owed, we worked for free. We’re not asking; we’re telling you.”
Despite Gov. Newsom’s underestimating the state debt figures by billions, this bill has now come due and many critics are challenging the left to show that the prior pledges were not mere political opportunism or virtue signaling. California is set to face the true costs of these pledges and many are in no mood to haggle over price.
In other words, California Democrats may have finally reached the “show me the money” moment.
I don’t have the numbers handy, but I believe the amount the pro reparations folks are seeking far exceeds the budget of the state of California. In other words, it can’t be done. It would bankrupt the state. Not only that, but once you start redressing past wrongs, where do you stop? What about all the Japanese shamefully interned in World War 2? What about wrongs perpetrated against other minorities?
We know that California discriminated against the Chinese during the 19th Century. Some California vitiates have even issued formal apologies for their acts. Why are descendants of these Chinese people being considered for reparations?

COMPASSIONATE REPATRIATION IS THE MAXIMAL REPARATION
Enforce the law. The Supreme Court of 2022 recently acted retroactively by 50 years to prove and correct the corruption of the Supreme Court 1973 by striking down the claim of constitutional abortion, appropriately returning the issue to the States. The Supreme Court of 2023 must now act retroactively by 150 years to correct the course of law and enforce extant immigration law of January 1, 1863. The Naturalization Act of 1802 was in full force and effect requiring immigrants to be “…free white person(s)….” The status of freed slaves changed from that of “property” to “illegal alien.” Freed slaves must have been summarily and compassionately repatriated which is intuitive and in complete alignment with the typical demand of abductees who have obtained their freedom. It was egregious criminal dereliction for the government to fail to enforce the law in a society of laws.
That does not apply to any black person living in this country today as there are no freed slaves alive. You are citizens with the same rights as anyone else. You are free to even get a job and earn your money like everyone else.
Settle down now, everything is going to be OK, there is plenty of Dollars for Everybody (U.S. Citizens).

I have read of an allegation that the first enslaved class to be introduced into the Colonies were the Irish.
If so, I will settle only for the $223 thousand that the Newsom Reparations Task Force recommends.

There were no Jewish slaves in Egypt. Archaeologists have all agreed on that. So, let’s get this right.
Around 1200 B.C., the early Hebrews left Egypt after failing to pay their back taxes to the Egyptian Government. Carbon dated documents were discovered by the Egyptian Government around 1997 that verified that. No slavery existed in Egypt.

The Palestinians (Philistine peoples) were part of the 7-9 tribes that made up Canaan. They are mentioned 4 times in the Bible. In the book of Judges, it mentions how the Palestinians tried to repel the advancing Jewish forces from Egypt.
In a book by Schlomo Zand (How and When Were the Jewish People Invented) DNA has proven that the Palestinians are not only descendants of the Canaanites but, are actually the only Israelites in the region because they intermarried with the Jewish invaders thousands of years ago.
None of the Jewish people living in occupied Palestine are even remotely connected to Abraham or Jacob, and thus, are not Israelites.
In Genesis 24:7, Abraham promised that land to those who were from his “seed”. The Palestinians qualify. The Jewish people in Israel (occupied Palestine) do NOT qualify.
So, thousands of years later after invading Canaan and Philistia (Palestine), in 1896, Theodor Herzl, funded by Baron Edmond James de Rothschild, who wanted to remain anonymous, hatched the idea of forming Israel on land that did not belong to them. Herzl brought his idea to the Swiss Congress in 1897.

Because of that, the Zionists could guarantee the United State’s involvement in both WWI and WWII thus ensuring their victory.

If my history is correct the “white slaves” death rate was higher than the “black slave” death rate. The reason given was that the “black slaves” cost money.

“They”. They are not alive today. The slave owners aren’t either. Why should millions of Americans work for reparations when they never had slaves? MILLIONS of white people are poor. No one helps them. Why should those who are pushing for reparations be any different?
I agree. We should not have to re-litigate every failure in judgement all the way back to Cain and Able.
But the FACTS are that the conditions of human existance for over 300K years have been miserable. A decent life has always been RARE, and a decent life for most is something that is incredibly modern.
Most humans for most of mans existance would have picked the Chattel slavery of the 18th century over horrible living and horrible death – likely before the age of 30. That was the norm for 300K years.
Black slavery was both bad and immoral. It is but one of many bad immoral aspects of much of human existance.
Trying to debate Whether Blacks from Africa or the Irish who preceded them had it worse is a tiny academic question.
There were differences – Relatively quickly the law made the whote children of white slaves in the Caribbean Free Persons.
And the respons of white slave owners was to deliberately breed – white slaves with black slaves to get mulatto children who would still be slaves.
