“Safe Harbor”: New Evidence Offers Insight into Hunter Biden and his Collapsing World of Corruption

Below is my column in the New York Post on newly discovered exchanges within the Biden family over the collapsing fortunes of Hunter Biden in 2018. As one of the primary conduits for influence peddling in the Biden family, Hunter appeared to be in a free fall and his Uncle Jim appeared to offer him a “safe harbor” and to guarantee “all the deals are still alive.”

Here is the column:

In 2018, Hunter Biden’s world was collapsing.

The New York Times had run a story on one of his shady deals with the Chinese and his father was pulled into the vortex.

It appears that Hunter was in a free fall and his uncle Jim Biden reportedly reached out in newly discovered messages to offer him a “safe harbor.”

The exchange is an insight into a train wreck of a life of the scion of one of the most powerful families in the country.

However, it is also insight into a world of influence peddling where millions simply evaporated in the coffers of the Biden family.

On their face, the messages seem to contradict public statements from President Biden on the foreign-influence peddling that was used to fund Hunter’s drug-infused, self-destructive lifestyle.

The Times story caused a panic in the Biden family.

Despite a largely supportive media, the Bidens have long been known for influence peddling.

Jim Biden has been repeatedly criticized for marketing his access to his brother in pitches to clients.

Hunter knew that the Times story was only the tip of an iceberg.

There were deals all over the world with foreign figures worth millions and some of these figures had close ties to foreign intelligence or regimes.

As revealed recently by the House Oversight Committee, the Bidens constructed a labyrinth of corporations and accounts to transfer millions from these deals to a variety of Biden family members, including grandchildren.

Free fall

Nevertheless, Joe Biden repeatedly claimed as a presidential candidate and as president that he had no knowledge of any foreign dealings of his son.

Those denials now appear patently false.

The laptop includes pictures and appointments of Hunter’s foreign business associates with Joe Biden.

It also includes a recording concerning a Times report on Dec. 12, 2018, detailing Hunter’s dealings with Ye Jianming, the head of CEFC China Energy Company.

Ye would later be arrested for corruption.

As Biden associates pushed the Times to change aspects of the story, Joe Biden called to report on the results.

In his message, Biden ends his call to Hunter with the statement “I think you’re clear. And anyway if you get a chance, give me a call, I love you.”

The new messages indicate that the Bidens were worried that Hunter was in a free fall as these dealings were becoming known and revenue was declining.

Jim Biden appears to be rushing to get Hunter to work the problem with the family.

He assures him that they can find him “a safe harbor” and that “I can work with you[r] father alone!”

Hunter previously complained that he was giving as much as half of his proceeds to his father and was now facing towering financial demands.

He appears to have cut off the family.

That is a dangerous development for a man who had a long struggle with drugs and alcohol.

Hunter blew through a fortune on narcotics and women, including allegations that he may have used a shared credit card with his father to pay off prostitutes.

Both Joe and Jim Biden were reaching out to Hunter to assure him that he was in the “clear” and that there is a “safe harbor.”

However, Jim pushed him to remain in contact and in the fold: “I cannot find you, believe it or not I have been looking. I [have] driven by Hallie’s, you fathers. Called texted you. . . . I want to help all the deals are still alive.”

Putting aside the genuine desire to protect a family member with a history of drug abuse, the unpredictable Hunter also represented a threat to the entire family.

A panicked Hunter threatened more than family harmony. There were millions that were being generated in countries like Ukraine, Romania, Russia and China.

The messages show that Hunter was spinning out of control and needed money fast — a lot of money. He told Jim Biden that he could not even afford “food and gas,” including his monthly alimony to his ex-wife Kathleen Buhle.

He relays how President Biden was told that he “was in a real danger zone.”

Classic corruption

These messages highlight another inconvenient fact: Hunter was hardly a figure who generated confidence or cash.

In 2018, he was an utter mess at the very time that foreign figures were funneling money to him.

He was clearly noncommunicative with his family and still gushing money.

He had previously complained that the Russians had blackmail material on him. He was a danger not just to himself.

In his later book, Hunter admits that he was a crack addict and alcoholic: “drinking a quart of vodka a day by yourself in a room is absolutely, completely debilitating” as well as “smoking crack around the clock.”

Given these admissions, why were so many foreign figures rushing to give this human wrecking ball millions?

He not only lacked expertise in areas like energy or mining, but he was barely able to function, according to his own account.

The answer seems abundantly clear.

This was classic corruption. Indeed, influence peddling has long been the favorite form of corruption in Washington.

Yet, these latest messages add a particularly sad element to this scandal.

Joe and Jim Biden were propping up a man who was barely able to function.

However, Hunter was still the conduit for allegedly millions in foreign money.

He was the firebreak between the money and any scandal.

This was made evident in a recent and rare sit-down interview; MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle delicately broached the scandals involving Hunter by emphasizing that it is a “personal” matter and assuring the president (and the viewers) that the still unknown charges involve “no ties to you.”

Hunter increasingly looks like the designated defendant of the Bidens; the sin-eater who may have to take one for the team in the form of a couple tax charges.

Yet, even now, to use Jim Biden’s words, “This can work.”

Hunter’s new “safe harbor” may be a limited indictment that conspicuously avoided charges as an unregistered agent.

Likewise, Attorney General Merrick Garland has seen to that by steadfastly refusing to appoint a special counsel despite references to the president getting a proposed cut of these deals and instructions to use code names for him like the “Big Guy” to conceal his role.

Most recently, an IRS whistleblower came forward to accuse the Justice Department of interfering with the tax investigation of Hunter by “slow walking” the investigation and making a series of decisions that worked to his advantage.

As made clear by Jim Biden, there is always a plan in the Biden family. Back in 2018, he assured his nephew that “as usual just need several months of [your father’s] help for this to work. Let’s talk about it. It makes perfect sense to me.” In the meantime, the message from Uncle Jim likely remains “stay calm and carry on.”

  1. Lest we forget, the apparatus of the state (the FBI, all mass media, “fact checkers”, i.e. the cabal control network), successfully suppressed or discredited
this evidence packed laptop, thus ensuring the election of Mr. Biden, The result is the expansion of the use the state apparatus as a conduit for crime and the suppression of truth.

This is the essence of Tyranny. In Mr. Biden’s words,” Corruption is just another form of tyranny…a cancer that eats away at a citizen’s faith in democracy.”

So it is. How does the Republic survive? These criminals must be held to account. But how?

    Washington is broken.
Republicans got outsmarted by a President who can’t find his pants.
I’m voting NO on the debt ceiling debacle because playing the DC game isn’t worth selling out our kids and grandkids.

Rep Nancy Mace is the first woman to graduate from the Corps of Cadets at The Citadel, the first Republican woman from South Carolina to be elected to the US Congress, and clearly one of the few Republicans with any courage. It seems it is mostly the Republican women in the US House who are showing any testicular fortitude in holding the puppet Presidency of Joseph Biden’s Handlers accountable.

Several resolutions have been introduced to impeach members of Biden’s Politburo and expel Adam Schiff from Congress, resolutions introduced mostly by women. Yet nothing has happened. Democrats wasted no time in taking control of the Congress during their Reign of Terror, but Republicans, as predicted, languish like the beta males they always have been.

    Pathetic

    1. On the debt ceiling question, wouldn’t it have been better to defer the fight over the budget to the actual appropriations bills? The Rs could pass them in the House, with a drastic cut fall back CR, and if the Ds in the Senate and WH did not agree the Government would shut down. They could still do that.

      1. Yes a clean debt limit increase now and a separate and later budget discussion and agreement has been the Democrat position since January and would have been a much better approach. However, now that we have a two-year bipartisan budget agreement, any Republican effort for more cuts during the appropriations process would be inconsistent with that agreement.

  3. We need to fall back on the greats from our History. Where is William T. Sherman when you need him. Using his march to the sea from Atlanta to Savannah as a template, I would propose a new example of WT Sherman to start on a line from Harpers Ferry to Frederick, Md and sweep southeast to the Chesapeake Bay , with a width of about 60 miles. Once you get just east of Fredericksburg, keep the path of destruction north of the Potomac. Leave nothing standing and then the nation can sleep peacefully again, at least till the next election.
    One can dream.

  4. And when will the swamp decide to punish this family of grifters? Never…unless we clean house of ALL the infestation of prog/left ideologues who truly believe that the ends justify the means.

  5. Dear Prof Turley,

I think you’re in the clear, but the NYT has some explaining to do. .. alas, they have not responded to any of my inquiries in the past. Ever.

Third time charm: Do you know where The Laptop is, or not? The FBI won’t say, and after 4 years I fear it, the laptop, may be lost into the void or misplaced .. . leaving only shimmering, ephemeral concoctions of wild-eyed conspiracy theories. For example, whether (or not) Joe Biden’s involvement (i.e. his ‘job’) in Ukraine, both public and private, was as ‘impeccable’ as he claims (see also 1st Trump impeachment.)?

I only ask because there seems to be an ever-increasing likelihood that the war Ukraine could imminently spin out control leading to global thermal nuclear war and the extinction of human civilization as we know it. In many ways, the conflict has already profoundly undermined functional world order, and vast economic tectonic plates are clearly shifting.

Imho, it is only through the grace of God and the forbearance of reptiles, the world is still spinning.

*bc ‘the world is round, it blows my mind.’

  6. The fix is in. Nothing of significance will happen. Moral of this tale ‘do not trust the government. ‘

  7. It’s frustrating to see the evidence mount up with each passing day while the government does nothing about it. But that doesn’t mean that Justice will not eventually be achieved for the people, the original and current owners of this government, each day learn additional facts needed to right this ship. Some have referred to the “Biden Crime Family.” Yes, it is this, for sure. But not in the conventional sense. According to Mafia experts, the mob was always able to traffic in drugs but had very strict controls prohibiting any member of the “family” from using drugs. The reason was simple. An addict is the most undependable person and will sell his soul and family for a fix. That the Biden Crime Family has violated this rule suggests that it is just a poor example of the real thing. It’s rumored that the AG will “broom” Hunter’s tax and gun charges and offer an omnibus information – a pleading – that will include a fine and hundred of hours of community service. Should there be a jail sentence, the Big Guy no doubt will use his pardon authority and will throw himself on the mercy of the media to see this solely as a distraught father desperately trying to keep his only begotten live son from having to go to jail. Should all this come to pass, it will not be a disaster. Once the AG closes the book on Hunter, he is free game for the House to summon and question. Depending upon the wording of the omnibus broom, I mean, pleading agreement, Hunter might have de facto immunity and be unable to plead the Fifth before the House committees. Likewise, if the Big Guy uses his magic wand to pardon Hunter’s past sins. One way or the other, the truth will out. That is for certain. If not soon, than next year. If the Big Guy is sincere about running, he will need to have a strategy for dealing with the evidence that now exists as well as what might come out over the coming months to seal the deal that he sold out his country and used his junkie kid as a bagman. As Don Corleone might say, “you just can’t trust dem guys!”

    1. What evidence? That’s the problem. What Republicans are calling evidence is nothing more than insinuations and conjecture based on transactions and making money that is NOT illegal. Making deals with foreign companies with ties to their government is not illegal either. Giving money to family members is illegal? What laws says they can’t share their money? You see the problem?

Turley and republicans keep saying these suspicious transactions and money transfers are proof of a crime without telling you exactly what that crime is. Suspicion is not proof of a crime. All the “evidence” presented so far has shown nothing illegal or criminal. Just suspicious and allegations because apparently making millions from deals is somehow…criminal.

What is the crime and what is the clear and convincing evidence that it occurred? Nobody has been able to provide that.

      1. Perhaps it is just the stench eminating from all the prog/left and their media arm that is what is revolting to the public in general. We can assume what we wish from the material already available, but to have a occupant of the White House infused with this stink is not only embarrassing but makes us weak in the eyes of the world. Actually proven crime??? wait and see. Unreversable damage to our nation and its image – that is a fait accompli gratis the dem party.

      2. Evidence! Hell the FBI couldn’t bag Al Capone. Elliott Ness was a treasury agent. Now I’m not saying that the grifters in the White House are as smart as Capone but they have an awful lot of accomplices inside the beltway to help them.

      3. Svelaz: thank you. You took the words out of my mouth. Turley is paid to lend credibility to the Fox (non) News theme that there’s “Biden Crime Family”. And, from viewing the posts of the disciples on this blog, they buy it, despite the fact that everything Turley writes is full of qualifiers like “appears to” or “alleged”. All of this is, of course, to create a counter-narrative to Trump’s ACTUAL crimes that we all have witnessed first-hand: “I just need you to find 11,780 votes which is one more than we have”; the fake electors who falsified Elecdtoral College documents claiming that Trump won in swing states. Then, there’s the theft of classified documents: “They’re mine”; “I declassified them”; “If I take them, they’re automatically declassified”; “the documents were packed by staff”….all lies, which Trump KNEW were lies at the time. Alt-right media didn’t exist when Nixon went down, and it came into existence specifically to defend another Republican President from getting removed from office.

      4. “Making deals with . . .”

Besides their own country, what else did the Bidens sell for that money?

  8. On a related topic – would the people who want to see Trump indicted for obstruction of justice for not complying with an FBI document subpoena also want to see Christopher Wray cited for contempt of Congress for not turning over a report concerning an alleged bribery scheme involving Joe Biden? As stated in the Daily Caller today:
“The House Oversight and Government Accountability Committee, led by chairman James Comer of Kentucky, has repeatedly requested the FBI produce an FD-1023, which details an interview with a source. The source reportedly told FBI officials that Biden was involved in a $5 million bribery scheme when he was vice president. Comer set a May 30 deadline for the FBI to produce the document.”
    https://dailycaller.com/2023/05/30/speaker-mccarthy-contempt-christopher-wray/?utm_source=piano&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=breaking&pnespid=7qR6DD5ZOPIRg_TOpWq_C4KNp0vyRIZwPPbkwfRhtxRmBmphPlyYMeL8VECIGL8NjP.jI.BO
After all “no one is above the law”.

    1. That document is not proof. If you understood what the purpose of a FD-1023 is you would understand why it’s being withheld. Look it up.

An FD-1023 simply documents an interview with a source, and does not in itself indicate any suspicions of wrongdoing.

It’s an unverified allegation being suggested by a source.

“ Reached for comment, an FBI spokesperson said the report requested by Comer’s committee “is used by FBI agents to record unverified reporting by a confidential human source.”

“Documenting the information does not validate it, establish its credibility, or weigh it against other information verified by the FBI,” the spokesperson said in a statement, cautioning that providing such information could harm investigations and judicial proceedings and “unfairly violate privacy or reputations.”

Republicans WANT the document to do exactly what they say they will do. To harm reputations and violate privacy using unverified information. Republicans want it so they can abuse it’s content to defame and spread BS. The FBI’s policy against providing those documents are within reason. Even they can ignore a subpoena just like Jim Jordan can.

        1. No its’ not, BUT it’s also unverified information. Which is being sough solely for the purpose of making more insinuations and smearing reputations. There’s a reason why those documents are not being released. FBI policy does not allow that to happen.

          1. Oh, give me a break, after that entire hillary russian document hoax you have the nerve to cite the proper behavior of FBI agents? lol

          2. No its’ not, BUT it’s also unverified information. Which is being sough solely for the purpose of making more insinuations and smearing reputations

            Impressive mind reading skills.

Just because thats what the Democrats did with Trumps taxes (nothing but legal by the way) does not mean it would happen again. But , face the facts. Democrats set the rules of the game, Republican can just follow them.

            1. Iowan2, no mind reading skills are required. It’s basic reading comprehension.

The FBI told them exactly what those documents are and what they are not. Because it’s unverified information and republicans who have a knack for twisting things out of context and spinning narratives to fit their agenda it’s not hard to know what it is they want to do with the document. They are literally telling you what they already think. That this document is proof of a crime despite the fact that it’s unverified allegations. It doesn’t take much to put it together and arrive at the conclusion that they want to use it portray this document as proof which is not.

              1. “The FBI told them exactly what those documents are . . .”

It’s amazing how the Left swallows FBI swill when doing so satisfies a desire.

      1. Svelaz, you can write an entire dime novel.
But all the words written by you are not relevant to the FACTS, Congress has the enumerated power to investigate. The FBI has no LEGAL position to defy the Congressional request.

        1. Actually, the FBI can defy a congressional request. Remember the FBI is a branch of the justice department which is part of the executive branch. They are the most independent part of the executive but not completely separate. Certain requests that would interfere with an ongoing investigation or would invade the privacy of a private individual for no reason other than to snoop in can be denied. It would be a violation of separation powers if congress could Willy nilly just ask for anything. There are limits and the FBI has policies that prevent such abuses.

Just like Jim Jordan trying to interfere with an investigation into Trump’s tax evasion schemes while it was still ongoing.

The FBI can refuse and has legal authority to do so.

      2. “It’s an unverified allegation . . .”

If true, that is a further indictment of the FBI.

  9. Merrick Garland is definitely sticking by his boy. I’ll give him that at least. An absolute partisan hack to the bitter end. He’s probably exploring pleading Hunter down to attempted felonious mopery. Thank you, Jonathan, for an excellent article.

  10. Looking to the day the Professor will post the reality, that America no longer has a Rule of Law. Under the Progressive movement, the rule of law has ensconced into and under the three ring circus tent. There is no Rule of Law except any the Corrupted DOJ, AGs, FBI, CIA, ET ALS, choose to utilize and apply. ” Hunter’s new “safe harbor” may be a limited indictment that conspicuously avoided charges as an unregistered agent.” Any way one lifts it up turns it, twists it, and views it; Obama, Biden, on down with most Gov’t entities participating , there was an attempted Coup against DT beginning from 2015 until today. The tragic death -murder of Seth Rich should be a deep concern to All. Big derecho coming.

    1. Implicated in what? This is just a continuation of what has become a never ending soap opera plot for republicans. A plot that keeps being fed by insinuations and innuendo and without any real evidence of the crimes or illegalities that are suspected. It just feeds on the suspicion and innuendoes to keep it alive.

It’s hilarious how gullible so many are, but then so are those who are constantly addicted to soap operas.

  11. Kevin McCarthy threatens to hold FBI Director Christopher Wray in contempt over Biden probe

FBI has document alleging pay-to-play scheme involving Joe Biden, lawmakers allege
“James Comer subpoenas memo, says he was alerted to it by whistleblower.”
    https://justthenews.com/accountability/political-ethics/fbi-has-document-alleging-pay-play-scheme-involving-joe-biden

    1. Kevin McCarthy ignores Congressional subpoenas.

      Jim Jordan ignores Congressional subpoenas.

Why should anyone take them seriously when they try to enforce one.

  12. Turley must think it’s April fools day everyday. How many times has Turley held the football while his Trump cult comes running, only to pull the football and change the subject when it fizzles out.

    1. @FishWings: Keep the faith, baby. Burn a MAGA hat and hope for the best, When the likes of the NYT is checking you for hemorrhoids and comes up with a positive it’s time for Preparation H or surgery. We yet but turn another page.

  13. If you combined President Warren G. Harding with Vice President Spiro T. Agnew you would have Vice President and President Joe Biden.

What amazes me almost as much as the level of corruption in this disgustingly greedy family is the Democrats holding their noses and pretending there is nothing to see here. The Democrats, Warren, Bernie, Klobucher, Mayor Pete, Newsome, Schumer and all other senators and reps, along with Kamala Harris, all know that this guy is a loser, a corrupt-o-crat and a demented old fool and yet they quietly support him because he is on their team.

Along with all the Democrats keeping silent about this loser president we also have the media pretending that there is nothing wrong with this situation. I understand the little girls fresh out of J School because they are just thrilled to be in the room, but what about the older folks, the Maura Liassons, the Jake Tappers and the other established “reporters” and commentators. I have no hope for the insane idiots on MSNBC, but as for the others it is shocking.

Now to add to the above lists we have our two or three resident Democrat operatives, Svelaz, “Anonymous” and Gigi that will pretend that Biden isn’t a crook, isn’t a dementia patient, isn’t a lifelong moron and that the border isn’t an issue, inflation is fine and a war in Europe is just one of those things. All because they are on that side.

It is sickening to watch our country go down the tubes in order to appease a moronic crook who is being led by people on the far left whose names we don’t even know. Probably paid for by China.

    1. HullBobby,
      Well said.
Dont forget about the whataboutism, and Russia!Russia!Russia! Despite all the evidence of the Russiagate hoax, the censorship of the Hunter Biden Laptop from Hell and the extent of the collusion of the government with Big Tech to censor COVID, our leftists friends continue to push their leftist narrative.
That is why it is best not to read their propaganda.
      Just scroll past.

    2. Hullbobby, funny, you could say the exact same thing about the Trumps. If republicans have no issue with Trump’s own corruption and greed they shouldn’t complain about the Bidens.

What IS telling is that Trump is actually in legal trouble and might go to prison. The Bidens? Republicans are still struggling to justify their years long “corruption” investigation. With little to show for it.

    3. Hullbobby, I wouldn’t equate Harding with Biden. The Tea Pot Dome scandal was a scandel during his administration but he had no involvement. His Presidency was a link from the war to a new beginning and helped lead the way to prosperity.

  14. Wow, Turley loves, looooooooves to beat this dead horse…a lot.

“ Joe and Jim Biden were propping up a man who was barely able to function.”

What parent wouldn’t help their son if they were in trouble? Turley treats this as if it’s some sort of crime or that it’s suspicious that a PARENT or FAMILY would lend aid to another member in trouble with drugs and addiction. How dare they think they can help Hunter Biden out of trouble. Because….it’s illegal? Criminal?

Turley is peddling BS innuendo and gossip to stoke the outrage he wants to cultivate into the public conscious. It borders on paparazzi journalism. Really.

He’s essential exploiting a man’s problems with addiction to push a BS narrative about influence peddling which is still legal. This is just Turley being hack in the purest sense of the word.

The fact is that STILL nothing has come out of this years long investigation other than political innuendo, insinuations, conjecture, and implied wrongdoing without any credible evidence except purely circumstantial and conspiracy theories constantly fed by Turley’s and others BS insinuations. Whatever crimes Hunter biden is being accused of all have tuned out to be misdemeanors and a one that is not likely to get any traction as it is so old. Good grief.

    1. Svelaz, what parent wouldn’t help their son who was giving them 10% of his crooked deals and who held the keys to bringing down the entire family in his drugged stain fingers?

      1. Hullbobby, your paranoia and gullibility are getting the better of you.

Who says the deals were crooked? If he chose to give them 10% how is that criminal?

You keep saying “crimes”,but you can’t articulate exactly what they are and provide no proof. BTW that 10% never happened it was SUPPOSED to happen but the deal fell thru. So what made it illegal or criminal? Surely you can tell us.

    2. Your spinning, makes me dizzy. You say “ The fact is that STILL nothing has come out of this years long investigation other than political innuendo, insinuations, conjecture, and implied wrongdoing without any credible evidence except purely circumstantial and conspiracy theories constantly fed by Turley’s and others BS insinuations.“

Consider the possibility that they have come to nothing because the IRS and FBI are slow walking the investigation, the main stream media refuses to look at the situation objectively and ignores any evidence contrary to their narrative. Do you still believe that hunters laptop was Russian Disinformation? Even most of the main stream media has quietly walked that back.

Lesley Stahl said that Biden’s laptop could not be verified. Of course you can’t be verified if the effort is not made. Other people made the effort and it was verified. I am sick of this.

      1. “ Consider the possibility that they have come to nothing because the IRS and FBI are slow walking the investigation, the main stream media refuses to look at the situation objectively and ignores any evidence contrary to their narrative.”

They are not slow walking anything. They just don’t have evidence to continue. The “whistleblowers” are just frustrated that they can’t find anything they think exists. The investigation started and was run well into the Trump administration. Are you saying Trump’s own IRS and FBI was slow walking the investigation?

      2. The full contents of the laptop have not been able to be verified some emails have been but they are not proof of any crime or illegality. That’s the problem republicans keep having. They make a lot of claims but they can’t back them up. Except with insinuations and conjuncture.

        1. your Grindr app history has fewer sexual contacts than Hunter Biden’s laptop. You are an embarrassment to your own gay brethren. Unplug from Turley’s website and go troll the bath houses of Los Angeles to beef up your history

    3. @Svelaz: A wise investor is knowledgeable in the art, has a diverse portfolio and keeps its options open. You, historically, do none of this. Biden &Co.is your Bernie Madoff.

      1. ZZdoc, so you agree that even you don’t have any evidence of any crimes or wrongdoing. Gotcha.

        1. @Svelaz: To what I agree is that the evidence of crimes and wrongdoing, the ethical and moral turpitude evidenced by the Democrat Party and its minions across the past eight years has been made clear. What is lacking is a proper Committee of Public Safety to load them into the tumbrils and carry them to the guillotine for a proper dispatch. For some, draw and quarter would right and proper. All symbolic, of course, yet consistent with current promulgated law.

  15. “The Republicans do not pursue justice with any determination because they know that they might need a favor some day.”

I respectfully disagree. The Repubs don’t pursue it because (a) they have zero control of the wheels of Justice (e.g., they can vote the FBI Director in contempt but they can’t enforce anything), (b) they have zero media willing to help, and (c) they have no balls. Or, simply, because they are as stupid as Charlie Brown running up to kick the football that gets yanked every time.

    1. They don’t pursue justice, they pursue a crime first, then the evidence. Their problem is the evidence doesn’t align with the crime they keep saying has been committed. Basically they are incompetent.

      1. Like “lock her up” no evidence but 45 calls for his political enemies to be lock up?

  16. Illustrates (once again) the difference between the protected and the unprotected.

The Washington establishment (Justice and media) is determined to protect Hunter (and his family).

The Republicans do not pursue justice with any determination because they know that they might need a favor some day.

Consider how an ordinary American would be treated in a similar situation.

    1. WSJ’s Peggy Noonan won a Pulitzer for “Rise of the Unprotected” and other commentary. When will Mr. Turley win his? Soon, I hope.
