Turley Featured by Washingtonian as One of the Most Influential Persons on Public Policy … Despite Being Vulcan Salute Challenged

Washingtonian Magazine has included me among the most influential persons on public policy … and made public a terrible secret that I wanted to address before it triggers an extraterrestrial  scandal.

This has proven a week of embarrassing self-disclosure. On Sunday, I revealed my ineptitude at taking selfies.

Now the Washingtonian background statement has revealed one of my long concealed deficiencies: I cannot do the Vulcan salute. It has been a point of humiliation with my children who could all join the Vulcan NiVar Science Institute.

I take some solace in reports that Zachary Quinto, who played Spock had to use glue while Celia Lovsky, who played T’Pau, the Vulcan Minister, had her fingers taped together for the movie.

I feel better having come clean. So for those of you with Vulcan dexterity, I will simply say “Live Long and Prosper.”

  1. Jonathan: Was the Washingtonian poking fun at you? Seems that’s the case. But I didn’t see anywhere in the short bio the claim that you are “among the most influential persons on public policy”. That must be the real joke!

    1. Dennis, you are amongst the ‘Very Worst Commenters’ on this site!

At least Mr. Turley’s writing is appreciated, and yes, influential.
      An actual congrats to him!

    2. Dennis: the only “public policy” Turley tries to influence is to use his legal bona fides to prop up the MAGA media lie machine–e.g., “see, “PROFESSOR Turley says we’re right–there IS a ‘Hunter Biden Scandal'”(never mind that there’s no evidence the Joe Biden did anything wrong) or “mainstream media cannot be trusted because they don’t attack the Biden family or Democrats like we do” (which means in Turley -speak that WE’RE right and they’re wrong). Because Trump is getting prosecuted for his crimes, and because he’s well-paid to do so, Turley actually promotes distrust of and disrespect for the law, for the legal system, for prosecutors and even the State of New York, which IMHO crosses the professional responsibility line. Turley KNOWS that most MAGA media consumers are unsophisticated legally; he also knows that some of Fox “colleagues” (which is what he called others on the Fox payroll at the WHCD) are outrageously extreme–like Mark Levin and Sean Hannity who do nothing but endlessly attack the Biden family and Democrats. They are not reporting the news at all. This is why his use of title and credentials to attack the DOJ, prosecutors and legal system is, IMHO, unprofessional and just plain wrong. Offering a counter viewpoint is one thing, but the rhetoric Turley uses is way more extreme, and could help promote violence. Trump keeps hoping there WILL be violence, which is why he refuses to comply with gag orders, and when his fans failed to show up in the droves he was hoping for, he lied and claimed that the NYPD were keeping them away. Turley also knows that Michael Cohen was prosecuted for the same crimes Trump is being tried for, and that Trump’s lawyers lost the motion to dismiss the charges–which proves that the charges are valid–but Turley keeps on attacking the Manhattan prosecutor, the NY legal system and the Courts. Not something a lawyer with integrity would do–IMHO.

Yes, Turley’s “influential’ all right–but not in a good way. Using the word “influential” does not mean that a person is intellectually honest, has integrity, uses their skills, knowledge and platform to promote the truth, or even being anything more than an echo chamber for an intellectually dishonest media outlet. As an example: HItler was definitely “influential” (not that I’m directly comparing Turley to Hitler, just an example). Joe Patrice of “Above the Law” is for more “influential” in assessing Turley and the shortcomings his purchased advocacy–he recently published a piece on one of Turley’s recent rants. Check it out on their website.

    3. Dennis, your the evil Troll who comes in and pisses all over someone else’s graduation.

You do not like Turley – we got that – so Why are you here ?

Most fo the rest of us, agree sometimes, disagree others, but respect Prof. Turley all the time.
Even when he is wrong, he is decent and honest.

But there are only two types of people in your world – the good and the evil,
And you have not yet figured out that Turley is good, and you are evil.

Your post is $hitty for no good reason.
Fortunately there is no evidence Turley reads the comments here.
Because your just malicious – for no good reason.

  2. The Vulcan Salute needs to be an emoji if it’s not already. “Live long and prosper.”

  3. OH MY STARS!
Now that your Achilles’ heel has been exposed – Have you a Plan-B?
(although you do have Luna the Supreme Overlord of the Turley home to protect you)

  4. As a huge fan, I sure hope you are not getting full of yourself. I was surprised you went to the Washington Correspondents’ Dinner, and wish you hadn’t.

  5. To allude to another old TV program. The professor stands for “Truth, Justice and the American Way” with the flag rippling in the wind in the background.
Congratulations. Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. would be proud.

    1. As someone old enough to remember the original Superman tv show I say good one GEB. Unfortunately our current president is Mr Ed without the common sense. Maybe Biden is Mr Ed but this horse talks out of his other end.

      1. Hullbobby-A very appropriate reference. Mr Ed was the epitome of common sense. I think Ol Joe is even more hapless than Wilbur.

  6. Congratulations professor! Well deserved! Keep up the good work!

I can do the Vulcan salute with both hands.

  7. I am afraid that the professor might harm himself irretrievably if he tried to take a selfie while giving the Vulcan salute. That could result in another medical syndrome which would require some significant research to give it a proper name. Selfies are already known to have a significant mortality and morbidity. Please do not do these maneuvers on ladders at Mesa Verde, or on the walk along the Grand Canyon or other such precarious spots. It would totally ruin my morning reading and commenting.
I do not take selfies. My friends know what I look like and the main comment I would get is “why did you spoil this beautiful picture with you in it?” I would have no legitimate answer and that is probably true for most of us.
But the professor has also found that confession is good for the soul.

    1. GEB, if I had to list all of the tech things that I can’t do it would be one of the longest comments I have ever made. I just spent an hour fighting with my printer and eventually needed my wife to come point out that it was not connected to wifi for some reason and she of course remedied the situation.

  8. well it appears you have a sense of humor…very unvulcan. Also a signof not being a hated filled Democrat!

  9. To me Mr. Spock = Leonard Nimoy and not this rank upstart whom you mentioned. That’s a great honor, all joking aside, in such a crucial time in American history. One day you will be remembered as a voice of reason, despite having voted for “Biden.” But even Mr. Spock was plagued by human weaknesses, which he inherited from his mother’s side, leading him to occasional acts of folly which sometimes were responsible for saving Kirk’s life. We are all adrift in the universe on our own Enterprise, we all have an inner Kirk – the heart – and an inner Spock – the brain – but the greatest of these is the heart. Which is why Kirk is the captain. But maybe take Spock with you to the voting booth next time.

  10. One of the most influential in DC, on public policy.

I would attribute the recognition to your steadfast adherence to the rule of law, and the Constitution. People across the political spectrum treat the Constitution as a Chinese menu, just using what supports their team for the moment.

    Most influentia

Despite trolls here everyday, that ignore the content you post, and only use the forum you provide to all of us, in their ignorant attempt to mar your reputation.

Carry on. Continue to use your blog, in the ways that is most rewarding to you.

  11. Congratulations, Professor, it is well deserved. Very grateful for all you do. I can’t do the salute, either, my fingers just don’t work that way. 😂

  12. JT. You are mana from heaven for so many. A cool, steady hand on the tiller, a eloquent speaker and ample common sense. May you live long and prosper.

  13. 10,000 hours. That is all you need to become the best. You could even double up – Vulcan saluting while taking a selfie.
