There was a strange synergy recently as activists from the left and the right were convicted of fraudulent charities to benefit themselves. In our “Age of Rage,” there are many who capitalize on the times to elicit funds for different causes. Prosecutors have secured convictions in two cases where such conduct was alleged in Georgia and Nevada.
In Georgia, Sir Maejor Page, also known as Tyree Conyers-Page, raised a massive amount of money in the wake of the murder of George Floyd. The Black Lives Matter activist had a checkered history including arrests for police impersonation, but was still able to capitalize on the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery to solicit donations for his group Black Lives Matter of Greater Atlanta (BLMGA).
While Page pledged that “All funds will be used to fight for george floyd… the movement … [and to]… fight for justice,” prosecutors alleged that he used the $450,000 in contributions for clothing, guns, prostitutes and a home. Even after his tax exempt status was revoked by the IRS, he continued to raise money as a not-for-profit group.
In messages, Page bragged that he “bought a big ass cribo” and fell into a windfall like winning the lottery. He was sentenced this week to 42 months in federal prison.
U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio Rebecca C. Lutzko declared that she would continue to “hold accountable those who try to profit by scamming unsuspecting people out of their money like Page did here.”
Across the country, Michele Fiore, a justice of the peace and former member of the Las Vegas City Council, was also convicted of wire fraud. Known as “Lady Trump,” Fiore was found guilty of six counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
She was also accused of running a scheme to defraud donors to a charity. Her charity was supposed to memorialize Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officer Alyn Bec, who lost his life in the line of duty.
Both will be appealing their convictions, but Fiore is still awaiting sentencing.
The prosecutors alleged that she instead used the $70,000 on herself, including for travel and her daughter’s wedding.

The predictions called for up to 20 named storms, including seven hurricanes.
Since then, a total of zero hurricanes have formed in the Atlantic. For the first time since 1997, August has passed without a single named Atlantic storm. In fact, through Wednesday, the basin was silent since the demise of short-lived Colin on July 3. It’s the first time since 1941 there were no named storms between July 3 and Aug. 30.

Several years ago, a weather satellite over the west african coast – the birth place for huricanes started failing.
The Fed’s threw up their hands – it was an unexpected early failure and there was no slots on the space shuttles schedule to send up a replacement.
So the Reinsurance industry – that is the hundreds of billions – possibly trillions of dollars of wealth that provides the guarantees that insurance claims are backed with moeny.
They decided to put up their own weather satelite. These individuals and companies have plenty of money and their losses from poorer huricane forecasts would be greater than the cost of the satellite.
They started the work to do this and in short order NASA found a slot on the space shuttle and found a Weather Satellite to put up.
Why did the govenrment change ? Because they do not want to give up their monopoly on Space – though subsequently Musk has been taking that away.
The point is there is nothing that NOAA does that can not (and is not) done privately.
While government has thwarted lofting private weather satellites – the satelite downlinks are available to everyone – it is not really possible to stop people from reading information coming from most satelites. In many cases you do not even need a satelite antena – you can get a live feed off the internet from someone who has a satelite dish.
Anyone can make huricane predictions based on that data – and in fact many people do. The reinsurance industry I mentioned does their own weather analysis focused on potential losses and loss prevention – and that includes huricanes.
I would note that starting late in the Bush administration – through no act of Bushes, we have started to see the development of far more private sources for data that we are used to getting from governemnt.
Today the best data on North Korea is NOT from the CIA but from private intelligence companies that are scouring the news, and even buying time on Non-US spy satelites. These are the people who stated that NK had the ability to reach Guam – while the CIA lagged about 5 years in their prediction.
There are stories that Trump relied far more heavily on private intelligence during his prior administration than on the NSA and CIA.

As to your remarkks regarding Global Warming and the NOAA – No Hurricanes are NOT becoming more devastating.
The frequency and strenght of huricanes cycles SLIGHLY in response to solar cycles NOTHING else.
However – as humans build more and more valuable properties along coast lines the COST of Huricane Damage increases.
That is entirely caused by How humans Build and where they build. It has nothing to do with the frequency of huricanes nor their strentgh.
There is another random variable regarding Huricanes and that is where they make landfall. The critical early handling of ALL disasters is bottom up – not top Down and FEMA like government generally – but federal government particularly is incapable of bottom up operations.

I would note that Gov Christy Botched the handling of Sandy in much the same way. Blocking access to the AC island for more than a week after the storm subsided.
One of the huge damages form Sandy in AC was Mold damage. Modl grows at an exponential rate under the proper conditions – and post flooding is near optimal. The sooner people get to their homes and can begin drying things out – the less damage their will be – by exponential factors. I once personally had to deal with a lawsuit over a mold disaster. A school district decided to shampoo the carpet in an elementary school over the summer. They went in and shampooed the rugs and left. Only they left the building locked, unventalated, with the AC turned off. No one came back for 2 weeks. The entire building was full of mold and the cleanup cost millions. The problem was easily preventable – ventalate the building after shampooing. Had a janitor come to the building a day or two after the shampoo job and noted the early formation of Mold, the AC could have been turned on the building ventalated and the spread of mold stopped and the damages would have been limited to cleaning small amounts of mold out of carpet.
While the above is about mold – nearly everything regarding a disaster is about rapidly taking often small but key steps to avoid far more costly damage later.

But the FACT is right now FEMA is preventing people from bringing food, water, generators, etc into the disaster area.
The so called “Price gougers” are providing a valuable service – that FEMA has thwarted.
It is several days after the hurricane and there are still LOTGS of people without power, water and food.
Every single generator that you can get into the disaster area quickly preserves FOOD in that area – and that is food you do not have to bring in from the outside.
Water is the difference between life and death for many and even beyond that it is key to being able to continue to work.
If you do not have water you dehydrate – that may not kill you – especially if you are young and healthy, but it limits the amount you can do.
And it does so at the most important time.
Right now we are seeing Trump and Musk and others Heroically doing what FEMA is not.
Even SMALL things are much more important than big things a week later.
But this goes far beyond Trump and Musk.
While the Biden administration was clueless in preparing for this – POrivate businesses ARE NOT.
Places like Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, were providing materials to people before the storm. They also engaged in massive prepositioning of the supplies that they expect to be needed just outside the anticipated disaster area. Some of these supplies are already being delivered.
But as with prior disasters MOST of it is being delayed until FEMA allows them into the disaster area.
Dinners and resturuants like Denny’s both locally and nationwide have disaster plans for exactly these situations.
They have plans to provide food and drinks so long as they have supplies. They have plans they follow if there is still power or if it is restored quickly.
They have plans for what to provide people even if there is no power.
Further MOST business that operate INSIDE the disaster area DO NOT price gouge. Thogh they will limit purchases of critical resources so that everyone can get alittle.
Whether small businesses of Big ones like Walmart or Home Depot – they know that if they help people during a disaster – they are customers FOR LIFE. Walmart gave awards to store managers in New orleans who Ran bludozers through their aisles pushing the goods in the store – some damaged by the storm into the parking lot and putting a FREE sign up on them as the trucks arrived to fill the Walmart with Water, Pop Tarts, Peanut butter diapers and all the supplies that Walmart KNOWS people will need in a disaster.
Again – Business is prepared – FEMA is not – FEMA has ALWAYS gotten in the way – whether Biden or Trump is president.
FEMA has negative value as an emergency response service.
The SMALL value that FEMA has is paying for some parts of rebuilding AFTER the disaster. FEMA can not get money into peoples hands in time for it to matter with respect to dealing with the immediate disaster. But they Do manage to act as a form of insurance AFTER the fact.
They do not do that well either – but they do not actively interfere with recovery in their efforts to dump money on the problem.
I noted that local businesses very rarely price gouge in a disaster – but outsiders do.
A guy with a pickup and a large trailer will buy cans of gasoline or Generators, or Water or other critical supplies and drive them into the disaster area. Often these prople take back roads and find there way in DESPITE FEMA.
They charge way over normal prices – which is reaonable given that they risk the money theiy paid for the stuff – all kinds of things could go wrong – the trailed could end up in a river, of FEMA could confiscate it all. Regarldess many of them get through. They charge high prices and in return people have generators, gasoline, water food, BEFORE FEMA or others could possibly get it to them.
They are providing a valuable service. And if they could not charge market rates, they would not take the risks and get the supplies in an people would suffer.
There are lots of economic studies on disasters. The reality is that increased government involvement has made things WORSE not better.
After the infmaous jonestown flood – local communities had fully rebuilt within 18months. New Orleans has STILL not fully recovered from Katrina. Though Texas has Recovered from Rachel.
While it should not surprise that the Biden administration is uniquely bad at this.
The FACT is that Goverment – and particularly the federal government have NEVER been good at this.

Is the Caribean warmer than 100 years ago – absolutely, and warmer than 200 years ago. On average the earth has warmed at 0.11C/decade for about 250 years. LONG LONG LONG before Humans were a factor.

The error bars in climate models are FAR larger than the alleged impact of humans. Put more simply it is possible that Humans are responsible for SOME warming, but the human contribution to global warming is with near certainty small. Worse still despite the nonsense of warmist scientists – modeling climate is impossible – We do not and barring a miracle never will have the compution power to do so. It is only a decade or so ago that the worlds largest super computer was capable of modeling weather out to 6 days – and even then with relatively poor accuracy. And BTW contra left wing nuts the science of Weather and the science of climate only differ in scale, of course the scale difference is enormous. Decades rather than days and the earth rather than the North East. Since those super computers that were able to calculate weather forecasts 6 days in advance we have increased the power of super computers by a factor of 32 – AT MOST, Probably more like 8 or 16. It is likely to take another 10 years to get another factor of two and no one knows how long it will take after that. There have been no breakthroughs in optical computing. Quantum computing has made poor progress and is really only applicable to a small number of (important) problems. Transistors on silicon already are done to small numbers of atoms, and at the state of the art 2nm processes they are almost defying the laws of physics to actually work.
The largest supercomputers in the world today are 100MW systems that MUST fit in a couple of Racks because .. well the speed of light or more accurately of electrons traveling in copper wire is a design constraint for a system that is processing 100TB/S The cooling for a system that consumes 100MW of power is gargantuan – all that power turns to heat.
We can not make bigger systems. More memory and more GPU’s or CPU’s means more power and it still has to fit in a tiny amount of space. More power means more heat and then the whole system melts. There will be improvements in the future – VERY SLOWLY,
None of these systems are capable of modeling climate for decades into the future.
So how did scientists manage to do so for the past 50 years ? They have been and continue to cheat – they radically over simplify the climate equations, they assume large numbers of variables are constants – the result is models that have real error bars far greater than the scientists involved admit.
