“Why We Influenced the 2020 Elections”: Facebook Files Reveal the Coordinated Effort to Bury the Laptop Story

Recently, I spoke at an event about my book, The Indispensable Right,” at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. Appearing on the panel with me was a New York University professor and one of the Facebook board members directing “content moderation.” We had a sharp disagreement over the record of Meta/Facebook on censorship, which I described as partisan and anti-free speech. Now, Congress has released the internal communications at Facebook, showing an express effort to appease Biden officials by censoring the Hunter Biden laptop story before the election.

In a new report released by the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on the Weaponization of Government, Facebook executives are shown following the lead of the FBI, which gave them prior warnings to prepare to spike such stories before the election. The FBI knew that the laptop was authentic. They had possession of the laptop, and American intelligence concluded that it was not Russian disinformation.

One Microsoft employee wrote, “FBI tipped us all off last week that this Burisma story was likely to emerge,”

However, these communications also show a knowing effort to appease Biden and Harris and effectively assist them in their election efforts. Facebook’s then-Vice President of Global Affairs Nick Clegg reportedly wrote to Vice President of Global Public Policy Joel Kaplan, “[o]bviously, our calls on this could colour the way an incoming Biden administration views us more than almost anything else.”

One of the most interesting communications came from a Facebook employee who recognized that they would be accused of seeking to influence the election: “When we get hauled up to [Capitol] [H]ill to testify on why we influenced the 2020 elections, we can say we have been meeting for YEARS with USG [the U.S. government] to plan for it.”

The Facebook files go beyond influencing the election.  At one point, Nick Clegg, the company’s president of global affairs, asked, “Can someone quickly remind me why we were removing—rather than demoting/labeling—claims that Covid is man made.” The Vice President in charge of content policy responded, “We were under pressure from the administration and others to do more. We shouldn’t have done it.”

Notably, Democrats opposed every effort to seek this information, and Facebook only recently relented in turning over its files years after Elon Musk ordered the release of the “Twitter files.” I raised this issue during the NCC event to counter the glowing self-appraisal of Meta over its record. Despite its claims of transparency, it refused calls from many of us for years to release these files. When finally forced by the House to do so,  CEO Mark Zuckerberg made a perfunctory apology and moved on. As shown at the NCC event, it is now spinning its record as a defense of free speech.

It involves the intersection of the respective corruptions of: the supposedly incorruptible FBI; the leaders of the intelligence agencies, who are supposed to know something; the MSM, who are supposed to be dedicated to the “The Truth”; Social Media, who are supposed to be non-political; Joe Biden, a man at the forefront of American political life for many years, with a special Brief as VP in Eastern Europe; and the Democratic Party as a whole. What was involved? The selection of our political leaders for four years, which could turn out to be the difference between nuclear war and peace.

  10. That our government is now corrupt is no longer in question. The only thing that remains to be seen is if we can turn things around. It could start with a Trump adminstration holding democrats accountable for the same actions that they have taken against Republicans. In his deranged monologue last night, Jimmy Kimmel stated- “If you want to vote for Trump, vote late. Vote very late. Do your voting on Thursday or maybe Friday.”

    Just as a reminder, the DOJ prosecuted Douglass Mackey and sentenced him to 7 months in prison for a meme he created telling Hillary Clinton supporters to vote by text. We were told at that time how serious it was to provide misleading information to voters and anyone doing so would be punished.

    Can anyone tell me why the two circumstances are different, with the exception that Jimmy’s statement reached far many more people?

America’s election(s) have become so convoluted where we now even award lazy procrastinators to mail their ballot on election day yet close early voting days before election day, ain’t that something. This colossal subversion of the electoral process lies at the feet of the Democratic Party. A nation with hopes to soon travel to Mars is incapable of accurately reporting exact result of an election within minutes of closing, (Wall Street has results within milliseconds with volumes of millions of shares traded at the NYSE not including NASDAQ or CBOE). Continuing with the election process, protections to prevent fraud have been cast aside for expediency and to open the door for victory with stuffed votes. I’m sorry to say I haven’t had trust in a Presidential election since the 1960’s.

    1. True, if we had secure electronic voting, results could be posted when the polls close. But that would require secure individual ID as a supporting infrastructure. The same with the Census. We could have a database census, where births go into the national database, and deaths are similarly entered — then we wouldn’t have to pay half a million census-takers to do a nose count every 10th year. Could govt. be trusted to manage a population database, keep it secure from theft/fraud, and police it to detect any illegal insider use? That trust factor is what it would take, and right now, the answer is “no”. But someday?…possibly. Then, government could know who its citizens are and aren’t, and eliminate vast opportunities for benefits fraud and tax evasion. We could vote directly on policy issues (would need an Amendment to Constitution).

      Other countries (New Zealand) have a national biometric population database, and we should follow how it’s working with interest. If we had trustworthy public servants, the USA could be in the lead on such modern, secure infrastructure.

        I have code in the Linux kernel.
        I have developed projects far more sophisticated than electronic voting systems.

        I am also an absolute hard NO to electronic voting of any kind.
        While there are ways – in theory to design it well and secure it.
        It will ALWAYS be a black box that requires voters to trust multiple parties without establishing a foundation for that trust.

        Trust is incredibly important.
        But we should never rest critical systems on trust when we have alternatives that do NOT require trust.

        Voting that is near impossible to defraud is almost trivial.

        While I personally prefer voting ONLY on election day – that is a choice, it is not a requirement for security.
        Though the longer an election takes place the greater the oportunities for fraud.

        The first requirement for election security is transparency.
        That is a major reason you do NOT want electronic voting systems.
        And that if you have any, you MUST have random manual audits.

        I think electronic tabulators are fine – so long as where is a system of random audts.
        Run your ballot through the scanner and it cans and tabulates your vote.
        Every ballot that goes through a specific tabulator is marked by that tabulator, so that it is possible to later hand count the ballots and compare to the results of the tabulator.
        Manufacturing process control has worked out long ago the statistics on random testing to validate against defects. Fraud is just a form of defect. Further random audits serve as a deterent to fraud – so long as they are truly random.

        Which raises another issue – there MUST be severe consequences for actual fraud.
        Today there are not. People are convicted all the time. When they are charged with thousands of counts, they plead to a handful, and get suspended sentences, and often get their record expunged in a few years.

        The criteria for safe secure voting were established long ago by the australian or “secret Ballot” – which is written into the constitution of 28 states – and ignored.

        A secret ballot has 4 requirements.

        1) an official ballot being printed at public expense,
        2) on which the names of the nominated candidates of all parties and all proposals appear,
        3) being distributed only at the polling place and
        4) being marked in secret.

        Ballots might as well be Money, and they should be printed and handled exactly like they are.

        AZ’s new system where ballots are printed at the polls by laser printers is an open invitation to election fraud.
        Ballots should be treat like Money. They should be difficult to forge, blank ballots should be carefully acounted for, hauled arround by armoured cars, and have chain of custody requirements that get people fired, and sued if they are violated.

        Filled in ballots should NEVER leave the “precinct” where the vote takes place.

        There is no way to secure mailin voting – just get rid of it.
        Having it makes fraud – not only in mailin voting but every othr kind of fraud easier and harder to catch.
        Once ballots leave control of election officials – even if you detect fraud at a later time, you can not figure out how that fraud occurred.

        Do you know why Costco checks receipts as customers leave the store ?
        It is NOT primarily to prevent shoplifting – though it accomplishes that.
        But to prevent employees takin products out the back door which is a larger problem.

        If there is Zero or near zero shoplifting – then all losses must be from employee pilfering.
        Employees KNOW that and therefore employee pilfering is radically reduced because the likelyhood of catching them increases.

        All the same things are true of voting.

        Everything that you do that puts ballots in more hands means even if you detect Fraud, you probably will never be able to catch the person who committed the fraud.

        While there are many ways to conduct trustworthy elections,

        I will propose a really simple one.

        Eliminate voter registration entirely. It serves no purpose.
        But require voter ID to vote. Photo ID, proof that you reside in the precinct, and that you are a citizen.
        Most states now report citizenship on drivers licenses and State IDs.
        Or you can bring a birth certificate, passport, Passport card, Global crossings Card, TSA ID, or any of many other ways to prove citizenship.

        No registration, you just show up to vote and provide the appropriate ID. Simple.
        No ID, no vote. Wrong address on ID – no vote. No citizenship – no vote.

        We can have FOR CAUSE Absentee balloting – done exactly the same as voting at a precinct.
        Show up at a county election office or a US Embassy or a military election office, have your ID, fill out your ballot, double seal it in envelopes and have it securely transported by election officials to the precinct in which you live for counting on election day.

        For actual shutins we do exactly the same thing – except that we send an election official, with observers and a ballot to your home.
        The Ballot never leaves their control.

        If you want “early voting” – that is Still done at your precinct no different from election day voting.

        No precinct should ever be larger than 15,000 citizens.
        If you want to make voting even easier – allow voting by paper ballot at any notary.
        Pay the notaries for each ballot tabulated. Again ballots do not leave the place in which you vote.

        all of the above operates such that nearly all voters come to a poll to vote – only a very small percent do not vote at polls.
        This is incredibly important – because it allows the media to conduct exit polls that WILL accurately reflect the election.

        With 10% or 50% of voting by mail – exit polls are worthless.
        With 98% of voting at the polls – exit polls are an independent audit of the election.

        You want the results of voting to be broadcast electronically nearly immediately – BTW that is actually already the case.
        As ballots are scanned by tabulators, and the Data cards are pulled the results are transmitted both to the county and state election officials and the press. This is where the realtime information that we saw in 2020 showing spikes in the wee hours after the election.

        But much more important is exit polls. Exit polls are a real time audit by the media of the election.
        If the exit polls and the vote tallies are significantly off – we start looking for Fraud.

        But exit polls are useless when you have mailin voting.

        I would note that while I am NOT opposed to using tabulators so long as here is random auditing.
        If you really want trust – hand count ballots with the public and press overseeing the counting.

        And again DO NOT transport ballots away from polls to counting centers.

        I would note all of the above inccluding hand counting should still give you realtime results by midnight on election day.
        Places all over the world have election results in hours.
        Many of those very large countries.
        At the same time – if precincts are small – no more than 15000 citizens. And with very few exceptions people vote only in their precinct – the counting problem is simply – can you count 15000 ballots from start o day election day through a few hours after the close of the polls.

        It does not matter if there are 1 million voters or a billion. No poll must count more than 15000 ballots.

          Stop right there. How do they have a ballot for your precinct? They can’t stock ballots for every precinct in the USA! The only answer is that they have to be able to print one on demand, as they do in Arizona. But you don’t like that.

          Again, that only works if notaries can print ballots on demand. And what a security nightmare that would be.

          This works in other countries because they only have elections for one or two offices on the same day. So the ballots each remote location has to stock are limited. Take Australia; at a national election each voter gets only two ballots, one for the House and one for the Senate. There are 150 districts in the House, 6 states, and 2 territories. Therefore every remote voting location has to stock a reasonable number of 158 different ballots. You show up and give your address, they look up what district and state/territory you’re in, and give you the appropriate ballot. On election day you can show up at any polling place anywhere in the country, and they all have a small stock of all 158 ballots.

          That can’t work in the USA where in each precinct there can be a dozen races or more, and a voter gets one ballot that has all the races going on in that precinct. There are hundreds of thousands of precincts, each with their own ballot. You can’t stock all of those at all remote voting locations.

          Olly, it’s not just the ones who committed the actions, but also those who knew and did nothing. They, at the very least, should have been suspended without pay. If they were in the military, the penalties would have been harsher. This is about accountability, and it should be the same for everyone.

          In the broadest of terms, all people with special licenses should be penalized much more severely than others when they misuse that license. That should include doctors, lawyers, teachers, etc.

      Lots of people have voted already – personally I think that is a mistake.

      Few states are counting and reporting votes, But they are providing us information on the voters.

      So far we see several things.
      the election in Nevada is likely over. Trump is likely leading from the early vote, an the inperson vote will significantly increase that lead.

      In comparison to 2020 – the Democrats GOTV drive has performed abysmally – there are about 1/3-1/2 as many democrats voting early as in 2020, While there are 4-5 times as many republicans.

      The early vote has more women – both republicans and democrats, and more older people – but that is normal.
      Before 2020 early voting was primarily older Republicans.

      Regardless it is likely Harris is winning in most of the states early voting. But she is WAY WAY WAY behind where Biden was in early voting in 2020.

      The other big deal about Republican early voting – is it is NOT Republican voters that normally show up on election day.
      Trump is now 1/2pt ahead in the popular vote in polling, and 1pt ahead in swing states.

      Early indications are that voting by Suburban women is up by 6pts – that may help Harris.
      But black voting is WAY DOWN. That is likely more important than the possibility that Trump may get alot of black men.

      There have been claims that “enthusiasm” among Harris voters is really high – and that is the secret to democrats winning.
      Everyone knows that Trump voters are absolutely voting.

      And there is little doubt that there are SOME classes of democrats who are highly motivated. ‘
      But there are strong signals that is not universal.

      union members and blue collar workers are either not voting, or voting for Trump.
      Regardless, the working class is NOT enthusiastic about Harris.
      Blacks are NOT enthusiastic about Harris. Muslims are NOT enthusiastic about Harris.

      It is unlikely that Trump will win VA, MN, NM, NJ, NY, NH – but all are in play.
      With absolute certainty Trump will do better in those states than in the past.

    Even if you aren’t aware, or don’t understand, the process to elect the president is protected making it impossible to influence, tamper with, or corrupt. And it’s totally impossible for any entity or faction, foreign or domestic, to raise one of their own to the Presidency.

    If this was a recipe, which chemical engineers like myself depend on to design a reaction mechanism to synthesize a material, the order you do the steps of the process matters, and the electoral process to choose the President starts with appointing the electors in every State. So the first thing you must know is the number of electors each state is entitled. The number of electors each State is entitled is the whole number of Senators and Representatives each State “may be entitled” in the Congress.

    How is the number of electors each State is entitled determined?

    The keys to determining the number of electors is the “whole number of Representatives” and “each State may be entitled”, because that is not 435, which is the number the States are unconstitutionally given, the whole number of representatives the States are entitled in the congress is 11,021, the whole number which does not exceed 1 representative for every 30,000 persons which reside within each State based upon the 2020 census, and 1/30000 is a proportionality “constant”, which means it cannot be changed for any reason, and it’s not a maximum, it’s a constant! Therefore the whole number of Senators and Representatives the States may be entitled in the Congress is 11,121 which is the number of electors required for the process.

    There is also a requirement that Congress shall determine the time of choosing the electors, and the day on which they shall give their votes; which day shall be the same throughout the United States. Which makes it impossible for any State to know who the other States are choosing for their electors, and more impossible for the electors of any State to know the persons the electors of other States are considering and putting on their State’s lists.

    By the 12th amendment “the electors shall name in their ballots the person voted for as President, and in distinct ballots the person voted for as Vice President, and they shall make distinct lists of all persons voted for as President, and of all persons voted for as Vice President, and the number of votes for each, which lists they shall sign and certify, and transmit sealed to the Seat of government of the United States, directed to the President of the Senate”.

    Furthermore, “The President of the Senate shall, in the presence of the Senate and the House of Representatives, open all the certificates and the votes shall then be counted.” “The person having the greatest number of votes for President, shall be the President, if such a number be a majority of the whole number of electors appointed; if no person have such majority, then from the persons having the highest numbers not exceeding three on the list of those voted for as President, the House of Representatives shall choose immediately, by ballot, the President.” “But in choosing the President, the votes shall be taken states, the representation from each State having 1 vote; a quorum for this purpose shall consist of a member or members from 2/3 of the states, and a majority of all the States shall be necessary to a choice.”

    Note: it says the representation from each State shall have 1 vote, not the representatives, meaning each State has 1 vote, and a majority of All the States is necessary to the choice.

    The same process is used to determine the vice president where only the top two persons on the aggregate list for Vice President are considered by the States assembled as the Senate to determine the choice by vote, 1 vote per State, and a majority of All the States is necessary to a choice.

    It should be quite obvious why this double blind and indirect process can not be influenced or corrupted in any way, and why separating how the candidates are identified and vetted from making the choice in Congress, makes it impossible for any entity or faction, our political parties, from raising one of their own to the Presidency. No one can “run” for the presidency, and the presidency cannot be won!

The answer to you question is no on both counts, because only the electors are voting, on their own distinct ballots, and the majority consensus is immutable, a majority of the electors is a majority of ALL THE PEOPLE, and a majority of All the States is necessary to the choice, there’s nothing that can be interpreted for any of those requirements!

        2. What you forget is that next Tuesday is not when the electors vote, but when we choose the electors. There has very rarely been any corruption in the actual voting by the electors, but by the time that happens the election is already over. The electors’ voting is a formality, because we already know how they’ve pledged to vote, and in many states they are required to vote as they have pledged.

The singular American failure is the judicial branch, with emphasis on the Supreme Court.  Secession is not prohibited by the Constitution, and everything Lincoln did subsequent to his illegal and unconstitutional denial of secession was and remains unconstitutional, and on January 1, 1863, existing immigration law denied admission to become a citizen to and required the compassionate repatriation of freed slaves.  American freedom persisted for a mere 71 years.  The entire communist American welfare state is unconstitutional and would not exist if Article 1, Section 8, of the Constitution were adhered to and enforced.  Indeed, the Supreme Court acted retroactively by 50 years to overturn and correct Roe v. Wade.  The Supreme may certainly act retroactively by 150 years to correct Lincoln.

    3. This is wrong on several counts:

      1. 1/30,000 is a MAXIMUM, not a constant. A state’s House delegation has a minimum of 1, and a maximum of 1/30,000 of its population. It can have any number in between. Congress decides how many representatives there should be, and over a century ago it fixed the total at 435.

      2. Congress says when the electors are chosen, but they are not chosen in secret. And the time they are chosen is NOT the same day they cast their votes. There is plenty of time between those dates for them to coordinate, as they have done in every election since 1788.

      3. The House voting by state delegation only happens if nobody gets a majority of the electors. That has only rarely happened, and no one expects it to happen again any time soon. For it to happen there has to be a 3rd candidate with regional support strong enough to carry some states.

    4.       Would it be impossible to corrupt and influence if a political party were to send lawyers with names like “Marc Elias” to go to all the critical “blue wall” states won by Trump in 2016 and go bureaucrat and judge shopping to find those willing to corrupt and rewrite the existing state voting laws? And then do just that: change all those voting laws to eliminate voter ID, allow vote harvesting, allowing selected spoiled ballots to be cured, etc.

      Could that possibly corrupt and influence an election if it happened? Which it did…
