As expected, the relationship between the Trump White House and the media resumed where it ended in the first term in outright warfare. The mutual disdain has become open contempt as was evident this week when, reportedly for the first time in its 140-year history, the Gridiron Club journalism dinner omitted the toast to the U.S. president. This follows the selection of a comedian for the White House Correspondent’s Dinner who promptly declared that no one wants Trump to come because no one wants to be in the same room with him. The media is doubling down on its identity as part of “the resistance.” In the meantime, the public is rushing to new and alternative media for their information.
I have criticized President Trump over some of his statements and actions toward the media over the years, including the recent exclusion of the Associated Press over a disagreement with its standards guide. However, the media has also been wrong in its unrelenting attacks and hostile stance toward the Trump Administration.
The press moved into hyperdrive after the inauguration. This was an impressive pivot after four years of the press running interference for the Biden Administration and echoing the narratives put out by the Democrats. The press had little real interest in the millions of dollars acquired by the Bidens through alleged influence peddling or the obvious deterioration of the President mentally and physically. Many reporters were content to cover Biden’s runs for ice cream rather than delve into controversies like the massive censorship system coordinated and funded through the Administration.
Ironically, the Biden team still kept an enabling media at bay. It could not risk even brief, unscripted moments, and Biden set modern records for his unavailability to media in press conferences and interviews. They confined his appearances to softball interviews with CNN or MSNBC or the hosts of far-left influencers.
The press’s hostility has only grown despite Trump’s unprecedented access to reporters. He has allowed the greatest level of access to the media in decades, giving long interviews and press conferences.
Indeed, everyone in D.C. seems exhausted after only 50 days. Trump’s election was like being gifted a golden retriever puppy by a friend. After two days, you are left staring at him at 3 in the morning and screaming “why won’t you sleep?”
One would think that this change in access would at least produce some interest in covering the White House with neutrality and objectivity. However, both neutrality and objectivity were discarded years ago by many in journalism schools.
The gratuitous insults on both sides do not bode well for the future relations. However, there is a difference in yielding to such impulses. Trump is a politician. The press is an institution. Regardless of how the subject of coverage may treat the media, there remains a professional and ethical obligation to report on stories fairly and objectively.
Moreover, there are legitimate gripes against the media for its fostering false conspiracy theories and over-wrought rhetoric against Trump. Again, that does not mean that Trump is right to call the media the enemy of the people or recently to suggest that coverage should be treated as a crime. Trump only undermines his own case with such extreme positions. Yet, the media has far more to lose in engaging in tit-for-tat insults.
At two dinners used historically to build bridges with presidents, the media decided to use the events as a way of slapping back at Trump like hurt school children.
Eugene Daniels, the president of WHCA’s board and a Politico correspondent, selected an anti-Trump comedian in a virtual withdrawal of the invitation for the president to attend. Why should he appear at a dinner that has been weaponized by the WHCA?
Notably, the prior year, the dinner (which I attended) featured Colin Jost. The comedian (before the election) gave a tearful comparison of Biden to his late Irish fire-fighting grandfather. It was nothing short of a public campaign endorsement.
Now, one year later, Daniels and the WHCA brought in a vehemently anti-Trump comedian who promptly said that Trump was not welcome.
Then the media pulled the stunt with the toast at the Gridiron dinner.
Ironically, in a letter to the White House, Daniels used his position to defend Associated Press and other outlets in the name of the free press. Yet, he is viewed as the embodiment of the advocacy journalism that has alienated not just Trump but many citizens.
The press remains at record lows in trust with the public. This is hardly going to help. It is a virtual invitation for the public, like Trump, to go elsewhere. The media is increasingly writing for each other rather than an increasingly disengaged public.
In the end, these juvenile antics will only further erode trust in the media and push many readers and viewers to new media. These media figures have bulldozed any high ground in the conflicts with the White House. The Daniels letter is again an example of what is lost when you engage in highly political conduct and then seek to speak in favor of the traditions of a neutral and objective independent press.
After showing the traditional toast in past years to sitting presidents at the Gridiron dinner, Judy Woodruff, president of the Gridiron Club, declared that this year they would only offer “a toast to the First Amendment.” Woodruff has been repeatedly challenged for alleged anti-Trump sentiments and even spreading false claims against Trump.
In the end, many may have gotten what they wanted — the effective disinviting of the president and his staff from these traditional dinners. Even Trump Press Sec. Karoline Leavitt now says that she will not attend the White House Correspondent’s Association dinner.
Problem solved. The dinners can become just new echo chambers maintained by the media and largely ignored by the public.
Jonathan: It was predictable. In response to DC Chief Judge Boasberg’s ruling over the weekend finding DJT could not use the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to expel Nicaraguan immigrants, DJT posted this morning: “This Radical Left Lunatic of a Judge, a troublemaker and agitator who was sadly appointed by Barack Hussein Obama, was not elected President…This Judge, like many of the Crooked Judges’ (sic) I am forced to appear before, should be IMPEACHED!!!”
In an extraordinary statement Chief Justice Roberts almost immediately responded to DJT saying: “For more than two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreements concerning a judicial decision. The normal appellant review process exists for that purpose”. Roberts’ statement was the first put down of a president in my memory. Normally, the Chief Justice stays out of political disputes. But Roberts apparently decided that the stakes were too high to remain silent, especially because DJT has been making similar false accusations against all the judges that have ruled against him and he, his advisors and MAGA members of Congress have called for the impeach and removal of these judges. Roberts, who oversees the entire federal judiciary has laid a marker in the sand for DJT: “Don’t mess with my judges!”
The Q is why would DJT resort to extra judicial means to expel the immigrants when the AEA only applies when Congress has declared war or where there is an imminent threat of an “invasion” by a foreign power? None of that happened here. Many, if not most of the Nicaraguans, have been here for years. And many have not been convicted of crimes while residing here. Now if DJT believed the Nicaraguans are “vicious, violent and demented criminals, many of them deranged murderers” why didn’t he just detail them, charge them with the crimes he claims, have them tried and convicted by juries and then bring them before immigration judges and have them deported? That would uphold the rule of law. Why DJT didn’t do that is pretty clear. Steven Miller, DJT’s WH advisor on immigration, thinks a president has unlimited Article II powers unconstrained by the judiciary. Miller envisions an imperial unitary presidency in which DJT can ignore court orders and rule without any restraints. Miller is soon to get a lesson in American history! In 1776 we rejected monarchs!
Dennis: It’s predictable that you would support Judge Boasberg refusing to recuse himself despite the fact his daughter stands to make millions of dollars off protecting Illegal Aliens via his ruling.
Just as you support Judge Boasberg showing contempt for SCOTUS’s ruling in Ludecke v. Watkins, 335 U.S. 160 (1948) with his finding.
Roberts, who oversees the entire federal judiciary has laid a marker in the sand for DJT: “Don’t mess with my judges!”
Dennis: you don’t think anyone remembers Roberts remaining silent while Democrats were attempting to impeach his SCOTUS judges and threatening them inside their homes at the Dobbs decision?
Your fellow communists might claim they don’t remember any of that – but many of us here do.
Dennis! Don’t change a thing! Stick to your strategy of lies, deflecting and channeling all the way through the midterms and then the next presidential election!
Dennis,
Do you suggest that we should welcome the TDA, MS-13 and Cartels into our country and give them a big sloppy kiss? These monsters kill youth at the rate of 1 747 per day. China makes the base drug, the Cartel are ruthless, the gangs are trafficking humans, drugs, guns, and terror. These monsters are seriously organized and ruthless. They do not have visas, green cards, nor are citizens. They are designated terrorists. Should we not gather up ISIS and deport them? There are no new laws needed. They are enemy combatants.
I am patiently waiting for the hard-leftists to put forth your ideas of how to fix this huge mess. I won’t hold my breath. You’ve had years to do this but seem content that we now owe over 36,000,000,000 dollars. You have no ideas. You only have criticism and zero ideas. Oh, yeah, you seem fixated on putting men to play with girls in sports, put men in women’s prisons, even though the majority of female prisoners have been victims of sexual violence. You are fixated with putting men in girls locker rooms and confusing children with propaganda about their sexuality when they should rather be occupied with playing hide and go seek and being concerned about cooties.
Now, we have Americans waking up and realizing how bizarre and dangerous the hard left has been. The truth is that this Anti American revolution has been foisted on the good people of this nation with the sole purpose of taking American and Western Civilization down, piece by piece, destroying our economy and manipulating the political scene with the insane open border policies. I am thankful that time eventually takes its toll on everyone. George Soros, for example, has been hell-bent to destroy eveything American and conservative Europeans. He will soon be gone from this earth, though he as been grooming his son to carry on his effort to destabilize the world.
Dennis – The ACLU sued the Trump administration over the deportation of 5 people it claimed were NOT members of Tren De Argua.
Boasberg’s jurisdiction was limited to THOSE 5 people – and solely to determining if they were or were NOT members of Tren De Argua.
Nothing he ordered was in the slightes consistent with the case before him.
Boasberg like numerous recent left wing nut judges – greatly exceeded his jurisdiction.
The courts in the US do NOT have the broad jurisdiction of those in the UK or worse still those in south american – specifically BECAUSE of the US experience with british courts running amuck.
When our founders cast off Monarchy – they also cast of unaccountable judges.
Our constitution gave judges life tenure – while on good behavior, in return it RADICALLY limited their jurisdiction.
It is not Trump acting like a king – it is Boasberg.
Worse still – Roberts is both tone deaf and way out over his skis.
His job is to reign in judges who think they are gods.
No judge int he US has any jurisdiction over Policy EVER. They are limited to the constitution and the law.
And even then only when a plantif with standing brings a case.
The ACLU had standing to represent these 5 plantifs in their request to releif.
I have no idea whether these 5 people were Tren De ARugagua members or not.
But the SOLE jurisiction of the court – the only case before it – was determining the membership of these 5 people in Tren De Arguagua.
Not ordering the return of 3 plane loads with over 1000 criminal deportees – most of which already had FINAL deportation orders against them issued during the BIDEN administration.
Trump is not king – but he is President – and he was following the law. But worse still – that was not even a question in front of Boasberg.
not even the supreme court issues “advisory oppinions” – they address only the issues in the cases before them.
Boasberg did not.
The King like behavior is Boasberg’s – not Trump’s.
The talk of impeachment is extreme. But we get to the extreme when the law. constitution and judicial procedures are not followed.
This is simple – Roberts and SCTOUS can use their actual power over lower counrt judges to direct them to follow common law, the law, and the constitution, or he can discipline them, or they can be asked to resign.
If the courts – regardless of who appointed them – do not return to following the constitution.
Then the extreme remedy or impeachment is what must follow.
You are CLUELESS.
Do you actually beleive that the constitution REQUIRES that violent Tren De Aragua criminals MUST remain in the US ?
Lets presume this case gets to SCOTUS and Roberts and 4 other justices support Boasberg. Congress will be seeking to impeach those judges – because if they do not, the american people will vote them out of office in a landslide.
Do you beleive the constitution requires the federal government to bankrupt itself ?
Lets presume this case gets to SCOTUS and Roberts and 4 other justices support the lower courts efforts to prevent spending cuts Congress will be seeking to impeach those judges – because if they do not, the american people will vote them out of office in a landslide.
Your begging for a convention of the states – and that is highly likely to end very badly for the left.
you may be stupid – but the american people are NOT, these rogue courts are NOT saying – sorry President Trump – you need to dot an I here and cross a T there – before you cut federal spending or layoff federal employees or deport the most violent thugs in the world,
These courts are saying “President Trump – you can not do what other presidents have done, what the constitution empowers if not requires you to do and what the american people elected you to do”
You have a very odd idea of what dictator or kind is.
But the american people do not.
They understand that tyrants are those who use power to THWART the will of the people.
Not perform it.
Memo to roberts – for almost two hundred and 50 years it has been understood that the Judiciary was not there so make policy decisions.
Your the cheif justice of the supreme court – you are expected to KNOW and to enforce the provisions of Article III of the constitution.
“the AEA only applies when Congress has declared war or where there is an imminent threat of an “invasion” by a foreign power? ”
FALSE as usual – you clearly heard Steve Miller – he QUOTED the text of the AEA, regardless the relevant passage is quoted in this particularcomment section atleast 3 separate times. Please return to grammar school and learn the meaning of the word OR.
Next – these are NOT Nicaraguans – they are Venezueleans – Tren De ARugua is a Venezeueland prison gang that was released by Maduro during the biden administration and transported with aide from Sorros into the US.
That is an official act by a foreign government sending hostile and dangeorus people into the US. It meets all the criteria of the AEA
Try reading.
are “vicious, violent and demented criminals, many of them deranged murderers” why didn’t he just detail them, charge them with the crimes he claims, have them tried and convicted by juries and then bring them before immigration judges and have them deported?”
Because US law does not require that.
These are violent criminals who who came from Venezuelan prisons – they were already convicted of violent crimes in Venezeula – and Vensezuela had already taken about 300 of them back.
Becuase niether the law nor the american people require that we wait until these people already convicted of violent crimes in other countries murder or rape someone in the US – though many have done that. before we deport them.
Are you going to tell the next Laken Riley that we had to wait fopr a Tren De ARugua member to rape and murder their daughter before deporting them. ?
Dennis how big of an idiot are you ?
The american people are angry over this – not at Trump, but at Boasberg and now Roberts has Stupidly stepped into this.
Because
The president does not unlimited powers – but he has all the executive powers of the United states – just as the CEO of a complany has all the executive powers of the company. He is answerable to congress with respect to his executive conduct – solely through impeachment.
He is answerable to congress with respect to policy – either through impeachment or by going to court to adjudicate the constitutionality and lawfulness of the presidents policy actions.
I do not see a single instance in the past 90 days where Congress has filed a claim in court against the president for failure to follow US policy as expressed in the Budget.
Absent congress as a plantiff – the courts can not review the policy decisions of the president. And even then only to determine whether the president is following the constitution and constitutional law or not. The courts absolutely NEVER can decide whether a policy is good or bad – only whether it is constitutional or lawful. Only congress and the president can make policy. Please read Article III of the constitution.
Dennis – the odds of Trump intentionally ignoring court orders is near nil.
Why ?
Because winning is great fun.
Democrats and the courts keep flying into box canyons and wondering why they are trapped.
Trump will yell and screem and fight and appeal and occasionally go oopsie the plane was out of the country,
but Trump will in a fashion that does not put him at odds with congress or the american people or give the courts too much power, Trump will follow these court orders
BECAUSE doing sop harms the courts, the left, and democrats.
You said Trump polls were tanking – but even the left wing polls are reporting them rising.
One MSM poll had Trump more popular than any president since 2011,
another any president since 2004. While Democrats have the lowest numbers in recorded history.
What voters see is Trump trying valiantly to do exactly what he promised and the courts and democrats thwarting Trump doing what the american people VOTED FOR.
Trump is near certain to win on appeal – but even if he does not – expect everyone with a D after their name in 2025 to lose election.
it is premature to predict an election almost 2 years away – but if this keeps up – you can expect Democrats to be obliterated in mid terms.
That would be highly abnormal – but YOU are doing every possible stupid thing to assure that.
So PLEASE keep up the stupidity
I cited the supreme court on the AEA before – this is the case. Ludecke v. Watkins,
This case was almost 3 years after Germany surrendered and the war was over.
So there was no war going on at the time of the decision.
“The Alien Enemy Act precludes judicial review of the removal order, Such great war powers may be abused, no doubt, but that is a bad reason for having judges supervise their exercise, whatever the legal formulas within which such supervision would nominally be confined,” the Supreme Court majority declared. “Accordingly, we hold that full responsibility for the just exercise of this great power may validly be left where the Congress has constitutionally placed it—on the President of the United States.”
Ludecke had been in the US legally since 1930. He had committed no crime and there was no evidence he was a threat.
Jonathan: your good friend Dennis McIntyre is a bull dyke’s version of what the ideal man looks like!
The stock price for Tesla has continued to tank in financial markets. And some investors are raking in huge windfalls at Tesla’s expense.
The Guardian recently reported that while Musk’s net worth is still in excess of $300 billion, his stake in Tesla is no longer his most prized asset, given the precipitous drop in the company’s share price. As of closing time Tuesday, Tesla is trading at just over $225 per share. That’s a decline of more than 50% in trading value over just the last three months. Musk’s stake in SpaceX has since overtaken his Tesla holdings in value, with the Guardian reporting that the former is now worth about $20 billion more than his Tesla shares.
But at the same time, Musk’s electric vehicle company has plummeted in value, investors known as “short sellers” — who effectively bet on a company’s stock to tank — have hit it big. The Financial Times reported that hedge funds that have taken short positions on $TSLA are now $16.2 billion richer over the past 90 days.
“Tesla had a very strong brand value and Elon has managed to totally destroy it,” said hedge fund manager Per Lekander, who runs a $1.5 billion hedge fund focused on clean energy. “[Musk] is on the wrong side of his buyership. It’s not people with cowboy boots who buy Teslas.”
The company’s slide is projected to accelerate, with JPMorgan predicting a late December share price of just $120. Investors have been bearish on the electric vehicle company after Tesla sales flatlined in Europe following Musk’s endorsement of a far-right German political party. The Tesla CEO has also had to contend with a wave of Tesla Takedown protests at dealerships across the country as Americans outraged over his mass firings of federal workers take to the streets.
Musk’s electric vehicle company has experienced a rollercoaster of volatility in its share price, rocketing from approximately $150 per share in the first quarter of 2024 to more than $400 per share after the election as investors hoped to cash in on Musk’s proximity to President Donald Trump. But as public outrage over Musk’s political activity intensifies, the number of Tesla shares being shorted has spiked by more than 16% compared to last month, according to the Financial Times.
“A lot of these momentum stocks [like Tesla] have become glorified memecoins,” short seller Marc Cohodes (who does not have a position on Tesla) told the outlet. “When they went up, everyone buying thought they were smart. Now they’re falling, they’re causing huge damage.”
Sir or Madam anonymous from the darkside.. actually.. there is Much More Public Support FOR Elon Musk (than what the MSM pretends..) and Mr. Musk’s decision to help save the USA from the free-falling descent of the Biden-Harris atrocious years of treason, destruction and under-the-table cash from our adversaries (see Peter Schweizer’s excellent research to document this…) You drink the kool-aid of the MSM, regurgitated above, ignoring how this same MSM had to pamper Biden’s Manchurian Candidate Presidency… ergo, sorry, we must happily ignore your doom & gloom…
Are those the same communists at The Guardian who you’re faithfully quoting as your post who told as a few years ago that with his purchase of Twitter, Musk was financially a dead man walking?
Communists offering economic and financial advice – now that’s pure comedy.
“. . . wave of Tesla Takedown protests . . .”
In honest English: Acts of domestic *terrorism*
Professor Turley, the news media has been insulting Trump and his family nonstop. Trump has been milder than most would be. I don’t know why you try to make it seem as if both sides are at fault. Yes, Trump can be blunt, but the media has lied and been awful. The proof is with the people who are gradually finding other sources of news. I don’t think you would accept such attacks on your family, so you should stop trying to level out the blame.
Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, Spacex, X, Neuralink, xAI, The Boring Co.
WINNING!!!
“Stranded astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams safely splash down in SpaceX capsule after 9 months on ISS”
– New York Post
Bravo a President Trump and Elon Musk for cleaning up another mess form the Biden-Harris Administration…
Just like Russia is winning in Ukraine.
Russia won the day is started. The Ukranian people paid with their lives thanks to the evil Zelensky.
Anyone who thinks Zelenskyy is the bad guy, is a traitor to the United States and should meet the fate of Ethel Rosenberg. I’d pay to watch you fry.
Zelensky is only a bad puppet. The real bad guys are those who controlled the Biden Puppet and steered events toward war. And some of them are still trying to keep the war going. They aren’t doing Ukraine, Russia or America any favors.
I don’t care for someone who cancels elections, outlaws the press, cancels an entire and legitimate branch of the Christian church, and lets pride get in the way of saving 400 lives of his countrymen per day. Putin and Zelensky are both bad men. It is time to stop the game of “who is worse” and bring this war to an end by engaging in realpolitik so it doesn’t spiral out of control. I believe that’s exactly what Trump is trying to do.
Just think: none of that shit would have happened if we hadn’t disarmed Ukraine of the deterrent nukes they had in their possession.
Just think: it also wouldn’t have happened if we hadn’t treacherously abandoned our voluntary war allies of 13 years, when the first invasion of Ukraine was staged and then carried out in 2014.
When did the ethos of our military change to “It’s okay to abandon your allies in war when they’re no longer useful to you” because realpolitik is more important.
Seems not unlike abandoning a brother in arms on the battlefield, because he’s no longer of use to you.
Imagine Marines, the Rangers, etc not seeing a problem with that!
Zelinskyy wasn’t the head of Ukraine and Biden wasn’t the head of the USA when Putin first invaded in 2014.
That’s the year of the first time one of our American presidents treacherously reneged on the commitments we made to Ukraine to get them to surrender the 3,000 nukes they had pointed at the Russian Federation that terrified us so much.
And the 2014 invasion of Ukraine happened after Ukraine had voluntarily been fighting beside us for 13 years in Afghanistan, since the first days after 9/11.
Context and nuance matter. Not blather about “puppets” that seems to believe that history, context, and nuance don’t exist.
LOL you’re a joke. Why don’t you go to Kursk and join up asswipe?
Giving Putin, the leader who has murders his political opponents, everything he wants… WINNING!!!!
Hoping for war and bloodshed to continue because “Putin man bad” is childish.
And then there’s the childish “Zelinskyy Mini-Me Trump Bad”.
Hoping we can justify our treachery to our voluntary war ally, Ukraine, by pointing out and whining about how much we’ve spent purchasing indulgences rather than meeting our commitment of military aid that we used to get Ukraine to surrender those nukes.
Irony: our terror at nukes in Ukraine’s hands pointed at Moscow has led to our terror at those same nuke’s, now in Putin’s hands – now pointed at us here in America.
Elon Musk is such a danger, …he is soooo dangerous that they can’t let him access social security information because you know, …he’s evil and dangerous.
So why is the United States govt and NASA, relying on him to rescue the stranded astronauts that Biden left there for nearly a year?
He is right now in the process of rescuing these stranded astronauts and returning them safely to earth, because NASA couldn’t.
yet, ….we can’t let him access folks social security info….
These people are a JOKE.
The same dumfuks that buy everything online from Amazon aka Bezos…
Here is an update of the fantastic job Musk and DOGE are doing in identifying wasted government expenditures.
When the Wall of Receipts was first posted, Elon Musk’s group said its largest savings was an $8 billion cut at ICE. But that was a typo in government records. DOGE reduced the savings to $8 million, then zero.
Then DOGE said its largest savings had come from terminating a USAID contract worth $655 million. But they had triple-counted the same cancellation, and also greatly over-estimated what that cancellation was worth. That savings, too, was eventually reduced to $0.
Next, DOGE said its largest savings came from cancelling a $1.9B contract at the IRS. But that contract had been cancelled when Joe Biden was president. DOGE later deleted the claim.
After that, DOGE said its largest savings came from cancelling a USAID contract worth $596 million. But they had missed a key distinction. While the govt’s spending *limit* was $596M, it had not promised to spend anywhere near that much. The savings from this cut was also later revised to $0.
Then, on March 5, DOGE brought back a claim it had previously deleted. Once again, it said its largest savings came from cancelling the same $1.9 billion IRS contract. Which, again, had actually been cancelled under President Biden.
That’s where we stand today, one month after DOGE began posting its wall of receipts. For all that time, the biggest “receipt” on the wall has always been wrong.
Net expenditures cancelled = $0
ATS – USAID has been nearly eliminated. Almost every USAID contract has been CANCELED – that is why the DC case is effectively over – when Judge Ali TRO’d Trump’s “pause” – State just canceled ALL conntracts. That converted the case into an equity case over payment for completed work, Initically of $65B in USAID cancelled contracts – purportedly $2B have actually been completed and required payment – but after ACB and Roberts – failed to properly state – you can not issue a TRO in an equity case, They alteast correctly states – you must have a contract and an invoice and proof that work is completed to demand payment, and $2B in unpaid but completed contracts turned into a few hundred thousand.
While it is my understanding that State is continuing a SMALL number of USAID contracts – most of the $65B is CANCELLED.
So Yes there is a MINIMUM of just under $65B in savings from DOGE.
And USAID is ONE agency. I beleive Zeldin at EPA has managed to claw back something like $40B in wastefule Green new deal spending, that was really just a slush fund for democrats – with $2B going to Abrhams as an example.
Regardless, that Money has been clawed back. It now WILL NOT BE SPENT – so that is a total of about $100B.
There are about 280K government employees that have been terminated. While many are receiving generous severance packages so the savings will not start for several months – that is still approximately 56B in savings per year.
Separately DOE is cutting back 50% NOW, with the hope to eliminate DOE in the next budget.
DOE is about a 250B a year budget.
There is talk of converting the DOE budget to a block education grant to the parents of kids to spend on their childs education.
There are 50M K-12 students – that is 5000/yr each. Average US education spending is about 13K/student.
But catholic elementary education costs $2500/yr for the first student and less for additional students.
Local private schools run from 7500/yr to 12,000/year – and these are Excellent private HS – HS education is about 50% more expensive than Elementary education.
My preferencw would be to pay down the debt. But replacing DOE with a voucher system for every schools student in the country would be a far wiser choice the mess we have now.
Lets assume DOGE is saving nothing – then why are you fighting so hard to stop it from looking for waste fraud and abuse
Because DOGE is not really looking for waste, fraud and abuse.
They are simply using that mantra as an excuse to destroy government agencies and functions.
They are simply out to create as much chaos as possible, so that the government is destroyed beyond the point of recovery.
“Because DOGE is not really looking for waste, fraud and abuse.
They are simply using that mantra as an excuse to destroy government agencies and functions.”
While you are incorrect, I am perfectly OK with “destroying govenrment agencies like USAID or DOE”
They serve no valid function.
Lets assume that the vast majority of USAID fudns are not spent on Trans opera’s in columbia or other nonsense.
Lets also assume that one of their major purposes is not as a CIA front and/or to screw with foreign governments .
Lets assume that they REALLY engage in Charity.
Absolutely nowhere in the constitution is charity a legitimate function of government, much less federal government, much less FOREIGN charity. You can not even extend the general welfare clause in the preamble of the constitution – which was never intended as a grant of power – much less a blanket grant of power.
Foreign charity is NOT constitutional PERIOD.
BUT IT GETS WORSE.
In the past 50+ years there has been $1T spent on aide to africa. The conclusion of pretty much all developmental economists is that was $1T of WASTED funds. Both govenrments and churchs went to africa to drill wells to get water to villages – in most of africa the water table is high and it is quite easy to drill wells to get to water. Within a few years all the wells had been blocked and the natives went back to walking long distances to rivers to get water. Bill Gates spent over a Billion dollars buying moquito nets for Africa – because we are not allowed to use pesticide or genetic modification to exterminate TsTsi flies that are causing african sleeping skiness or malaria or other diseases that we wiped out in places like Ohio two centuries ago. Tens of Thousands of irish immigrants died of Malairia digging the ERie canal – and long before DDT we eliminated Malairia in much of theis country – but we are not able to do it in africa ?
Anyway the nets were to allow africans to sleep without getting Malairia. But the nets ended up being used by africans to fish or to cook and malaria did not even hit a speed bump. We can go through aide to africa line item by line item – the FACT is whether that aide says it is for Trans operas or water Wells, or Malaria prevention, or many many many things that most of us would call REAL charity.
It has STILL been almost entirely wasted.
It is NOT enough to spend money to do a good thing.
If it is not your money – it is still theft.
Worse still it is pointless theft if you do not actually accomplish any good.
And that is the problem with the left – you steal from others to engage in virtue signalling that ultimately accomplishes NOTHING.
I have repeatedly referenced “The Ugly American”
It is still available on Amazon. It was published in 1958 – BEFORE Vietnam.
It is a damning indictment of US foreign policy and aide to foreign countries 75 years ago.
Those like you have spent Trillions since and LEARNED NOTHING.
Even the Aide that USAID does that purportedly sounds like actual charity – HAS NOT WORKED.
It is ALL WASTE AND FRAUD – and we have KNOWN that for 75 years.

You’re so naive. Defense contractors have drawn many, many, many trillions of dollars over budget since WWII. But you’re too dishonest to admit it
ATS – so what ? Defense contracts have made trillions. I have no problem admitting that – and DOGE is looking into waste and fraud in the Pentagon and I am sure there is plenty.
But wsate in fraud in one place does not justify waste and fraud in another.
If your argument is but defense contractors do it too – that is a shitty argument.
Worse still – Charity is NOT in the constitution and beyond the constitution it is NOT a legitimate function of ANY government.
National defense is quite litterally one of the core social contract obligations of government – the purpose of government is to secure the rights of people by using force to thwart the use of force by others to take away those rights.
Do we waste money in defense – absolutely – should we do what we can to reduce that waste – without doubt.
But defense is a legitimate role of government – the alternative is anarchy or totalitarian rule by others.
or more likely – one followed by the other.
ATS – it is you that is naive and pretty ignorant at the same time.
You are free to engage in whatever charity you want – and you bear the credit for what YOU do.
But charity is an individual moral duty – not a collective one.
While the defense of a nation is an actual collective duty.
We live in the real world – not some left wing utopia.
John Say,
They are fighting so hard to stop DOGE as it is a Trump idea. They cannot stand the idea of Trump succeeding at anything. So, in lizard, tail logic, they will fight against anything that Trump is for. That includes fraud, waste and abuse. That includes defending violent criminal illegals who assault, rape and murder women and children. That includes defending violent pro-Hamas terrorists. Their TDS is that severe. One has to be pretty sick to support all of that. Or, should I say, evil.
That’s exactly right, Upstate. The great thing about DOGE is it is all about one of the two things we all know dominates politics…money. Reveal that and the other thing that comes into focus is…power. While I believe TDS is a real psychological phenomenon, it’s been fueled by those whose entire existence is rooted in those two things. Without the money, they have nothing else to offer that would keep them in power.
Virtually every president has had a DOGE or something equivalent. Sometimes even called DOGE.
President Obama had one that promised to eliminate 1.6T in federal spending – and it was run by none other than VP Biden.
There are THREE reasons that the left is fighting tooth and nail to stop this.
1). Trump Derangement Syndrome – whatever Trump does must be evil.
2). Trump and Musk MIGHT succeed.
3). the politics of corrupt government spending have changed in the past decade+ and there are few reepublicans in cogress that will be caught with their hands in the cookie jar and lots of democrats.
While in general Republicans are less corrupt that democrats – the primary reason that few republicans will be caught is more due to lack of oportunity – over 8 years Obama funneled money to the democratic party. Over 4 years Biden expanded that greatly.
Trump not being part of the club – neither expanded nor was aware of the scale of this during his term – so alot of democrat corruption continued and not a lot of new republican corruption was created.
One of the disadvantages of an outsider coming in – is they do not know where the bodies are burried or how the system is rigged – even if they know THAT it is rigged. One of the advantages is that they come it without decades of being sucked into the corruption.
Or you could go to the DOGE federal website and see where the $115 Billion dollars savings are. What idiot would argue that the federal government is thrifty with our tax dollars and that Musk and team can’t find billions of dollars of wasre?
Lets assume you are correct – ROFL.
Then why are you fighting tooth and nail to stop and audit of govenrment spending ?
ATS – no one beleives you
You dont matter any more.
ATS never mattered.
ATS
“Over the next four years, $28 trillion of the $36 trillion National Debt matures. Financing current deficits will add another $10 trillion. There is no way the U.S. can sell $38 trillion of Treasuries with a 4% handle. So either we pay 6% or more, or the Fed has to buy it all.”
You had BETTER hope that DOGE finds 1.6T/yr is spending cuts – or we are all up Schiffs creek.
If finacing the current debt at 4% costs 10T for 4 years financing it at 6% will cost $15T
Inflation shot to almost 10% under Biden because the Fed bought about $6T of US debt – what do you think will happen to inflation if the Fed has to buy $10T ?
We are just past the early staged of a debt death spiral.
Rather than ridiculing Musk efforts – you better start praying to whatever god you believe in that he succeeds.
WE can still have prosperity – that requires:
Cutting spending, slowing the rate of increase of the national debt, increasing the rate of growth.
We must also control inflation – however if we cut spending, decrease borrowing and grow the economy – we will not get inflation.
But if we fall short – we could easily get hyper inflation fairly quickly.
If that happens it will be interesting to see who people blame – those of you trying to Stop Trump from bringing the US finances under control ?
Or Trump because he is president.
I do not know the answer – but only a left wing nut would want to bring about hyper inflation to find out.
Prof. Turley.
While nothing wrong with this article, it is more of a dud than usual.
The WHCA dinner does not matter any more. The Gridiron does not matter anymore.
The MSM is increasingly irrelevant.
debating steam locomotives replace them is irrelevant.
If the MSM is to survive – THEY need Trump.
That is reality. I do not think they can survive. But it does not matter.
Trump is only going to do these MSM events if they are attrcative to him – he does not need them.
You cite Trump’s spat with the AP over the name of the Gulf. Yet AP did not thwart Obama when he renamed mt. Washington.
Regardless not even a tempest in a tea cup.
Trump SHOULD radically reduce the press seats available to the MSM. Levvit just created a new media seat.
She should give half or more the WH press seats to new media. Trump shoudl ORDER the entire govenment to prioritize new media in press conferences, and press access. The new media is often Critical of Trump.
But they are not all a single brianed mindless cabal, that is the propoganda wing of the DNC.
The story today is NOT the White House Correspondents dinner – that has about as much relevance as
a southern debutant ball in Compton. The story is not the AP tiff with Trump over the name of the Gulf.
It is the rise of the new media
Turley is a significant leader in the New Media.
We get idiocy here from George and Gigi and Dennis that you are a Fox lackey.
But they get it WRONG.
Fox needs YOU and those like you – the Taibi’s and Weis’s and Shellenbergers and Greenwalds to remain relevant.
NOT the other way arround.
YOU are thr future – arguably you are the present.
Not Fox and definitely not CNN ro MSNBC
That is the story – not the WHite House Correspondents dinner.
Trump will not attend – not because they will be mean to him – but because few give a crap, and if they listen to the dinner – the do so to see Trump
Trump should go elsewhere. He shoudl do something with the new media – with Rogan or others like him.
He should go where they light heartedly brutally roast him and he has his own change to return fire in the same good natured vein.
Trump did Well at the Al Smith dinner.
Though the New Media shoudl NOT just clone the MSM. They should start a tradition of their OWN.
I have mentioned Rogan – he is the god of New Media today.
But YOU are one of the princes. It need not be Rogan.
Rather than Write about the tiff between Trump and the MSM.
Why don’t YOU host a new media Gala and invite Trump.
Something that is not a copy of the MSM WHCA – but a new media event reflecting the new media approach.
Posting about the tiff between TRump and the MSM is beating a dead horse.
John Say,
Well said and spot on! If Rogan, Taibbi, Weis, Shellenberg, and the good professor put on their own gala, MSM just might have a problem. As to Glenn, IIRC his involvement with Ed Snowden reporting, he would be arrested immediately if he entered the US. Glenn and his husband run a dog shelter. Rogan, Trump et al should give Glenn a shout out and ask people to donate funds to help support Glenn’s dog shelter.
The MSM has a problem no matter what – it is entirely of their own making – no one beleives them.
That will not be fixed by Trump showing up or not showing up at some MSM events.
The MSM may be beyond redemption – but unless you own CNN stock – that is their problem not yours.
I am saying that it is time to stop beating a dead horse.
It is time for Trump to stop attacking the MSM. It is time for Turley to quit attcking their lack of objectivity, spread of propoganda and crappy reporting.
The modern Berlin wall has been shattered, the Iran curtain is down.
It is time for the new media to let go of any focus on the old.
If you are winning a race you do not look over your shoulder for the running 500yds behind.
It is time to move on – not because the MSM does not deserve the criticism they get.
But because they are not worth the effort.
I suggested that Turley and the new media come up with their OWN tradition. I am not going to dictate what that is – they should work that out themselves. They do not need to copy the MSM.
My other suggestion would be to stop banning MSM press that is bad in their coverage, and start assigning press coverage throughout the government based or the consequence of each outlets voice.
That would mean Fox would get more seats than the rest of network news combined.
But it would mean that if Rogan or GreenWald or Taibbi or Weis or Poole wanted to send people to cover the WH they would be in the front row.
Put the MSM in their place – Not because they are democrat propogandists.
But because no one is paying attention to them.
John Say,
I have written to Bari Weiss at The Free Press, citing the good professor’s column and your suggestion of a partnership with Joe Rogan, the good professor and others to form their own dinner/roast. I also suggested them to focus or mention the importance of the 1stA, the media and independent media and that all profits go toward a scholarship or vocational schools for those less fortunate. Namely in the form of a essay writing contest on the importance of the 1stA, independent media and a free society. I mention you specifically.
Thank you.
Excellent.
Not to quibble but they should do their own thing. I do not want to tell them or anyone else what to do – beyond my sugguestion that Trump should issue an EO regarding Press, press access and press credentials that cares about the reach of an outlet not how long it has been arround.
The new media names we have been tossing arround – and many many others – some I agree with some I am completely at odds with – THEY should establish their own new traditions.
These are the people who defeated the MSM – I am not going to tell them exactly how to create their own new culture and traditions.
They are clearly more on top of the media than I am – they staged a successful hostile take over.
My point is that I think it is time for Trump and Turley and the rest of the new media to stop bashing the MSM – again – do not look over your shoulder at the runner who is 500yds back.
I think the demise of he MSM is getting more airplay than it deserves.
Turley’s central topic is free speech.
While the MSM is a problem there – there are far bigger fish to fry.
The problem of govenrment censorship during the obbam and biden administrations, even hidden from Trump during his first terms are very important – and everyone who was even peripherally invovled in that should be removed from govenrment for cause.
There was SMALL success in court – but there should have been VERY LARGE SUCCESS – the 1st amendment was egregiously violated.
Exposing the US govenrments efforts to censor or fund censorship should be the most important 1st amendment story in the country.
There is nothing Turely can do about foreign censorship.
But there is ALOT Trump can do. He and Vance are speaking out.
But they need to go BEYOND that.
the EU and other countries in the world should be told – YOU WILL NOT CENSOR AMERICANS SPEAKING ON AMERICAN SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS – or the consequences will be DIRE – this is more important than Trumps economic tarrifs.
But I think we can go further. I want Consequences for countries that force US companies to censor – even when they censor their own people. The US is supposed to be the voice of freedom in the world.
I think the US should impose consequences on countries that try to censor american companies – even in foreign markets.
Dropping down the scale – we should ALSO be opposing countries censoring their own people in ways that do not directly impact the US>
Liberty is Americans CORE value – we should be exporting it to the world.
I mentioned three tiers related to free speech and foreign countries – we should have policies – even LAWS regarding each of thes – and consequences. But the consequences of censoring americans in america should be far more dire than censoring brazillians in brazil.
As an example the US should offer asylum to anyone whose speech is censored in their own country, and we should not extradite anyone over violations of foreign laws that are at odds with our first amendment.
We all have bigger problems than this! Here is what the Polar Bears are going through!

And because secession is not prohibited, secession is prohibited…
some of the finest work of the executive power-usurping judicial branch.
Funny while Joe sat in his basement and covid raged, thousands of American lined up to see President Donald Trump… the raging is done by a few with big influence, for now… and perhaps like their so called journalism, the huge rage. Is mewling.
Jonathan, another great Post, and it begs the Question Everybody Is Asking, From the AutoPen, to the Biden disappearing on “vacation” for 39% of the time in office, Ukraine, and the host of sideshows that flowed throughout the Admin’s tenure. The Biden Series proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Main Stream Media can not “Produce” an Administration like a Television Production. It’s like ”The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills … is some how … The Real White House of Washington D.C.”. IT’S NOT REAL its Broadcast Media made for the Masses. So it is know wonder people rushed “to new and alternative media for their information.”
But let’s give the Blob the benefit of doubt, If you’re going to do it right, then Who would be more ‘perfect’ than Donald J. Trump himself ?
Maybe the Dem’s saw Ronald Regan (an Actor) do it, and then Donald Trump do it, so they thought that they would give it a try. But hold on a minute… with Joe Biden ???
Hunter Biden’s Sugar Bro., Kevin Morris, a top Hollywood attorney (Entertainment Atty.) was something glaring of a SitCom production in and of itself, with all the direction earmarks of a Political-American Cinema Editor (ACE), Obama and Hillary’s ‘Nothing To See Here Show’, and of course the D.O.J./F.B.I. Crime Series staring a host of Investigators and Prosecutors. (please insert The LIST here, George).
Honestly the worst production of a 4 years Series in the Political-Media History category.
Yet the Media Journalism ‘smells’ rotten (as in Denmark – No offense to the Danes). Why Is That?
It has been surmised that The Media’s ‘proximity’ to; Wall Street and the N.Y. Federal Reserve in Midtown Manhattan N.Y.C. (the Money Cabal) and K-Street D.C. has all to do with it. Yes Sir there it is – Something is rotten in the State of New York & D.C.. It reeks of a weird political nepotism.
Tucker Carlson and Chris Cuomo pondered “The Question Everyone Is Asking” in their latest interview: What Is It? that’s has an overall Control over the Government(s), The Censors that Control: What -is- Transparent and What is-not Transparent. From; The JFK Files, The Epstein Files, to the Global Mishegoss all around Us. And then there’s the Bigger Question… WHY?

Tucker and Chris Cuomo Debate JFK/Epstein Files, DOGE, Joe Rogan, NATO, Transgenderism, and DEI
By: Tucker Carlson – The Tucker Carlson Show ~ March 11th, 2025

Answer: Obama.
Wag the dog
Who? It should be obvious, it is the same People that put The Hit on the Kennedy’s and Others that posed a problem to Their control.
The JFK Files, It’s not the Trigger Men, it is Who ultimately gave the order for the execution and the motivation behind it.
They will protect themselves to this day because, certain ‘Families’ are at stake, as are the methods of their fortunes and power.
At the end of WW2 the European Cabal was displaced. They found new homes to move their fortunes in other places, but power needed to be maintained, at all cost. Thus the Kennedy’s by measure of Joseph Kennedy and his sons political placement in the Government and assumed ties to the Vatican Bank poked at the Cabal’s power (threatened), henceforth John and Robert Kennedy were expendable. Since then Cable has only fortified their hold on the Global scale, drawing all under it.
BRIC currently presents a problem as the Dollar dominance wanes, however the Yuan is waxing with potential. Here to, it is no-matter to the Cabal, the face of the Transaction is irrelevant, Crypto is even a better instrument for the Cabal to harness. Currency and Control thereof are the Power needed to rule the People.
Dose the “Cat got your tongue?”

“Eat and Get Out: Two Traditional Press Dinners Adopt Hostile Positions Against Trump”
– Professor Turley

And Abraham Lincoln was possibly the greatest president, was he not? We might inquire of his opponents.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Proclamation 80—Calling Forth the Militia and Convening an Extra Session of Congress
“On April 15, 1861,…President Abraham Lincoln issued a proclamation calling forth the state militias, to the sum of 75,000 troops, in order to suppress the rebellion. He appealed ‘to all loyal citizens to favor, facilitate, and aid this effort to maintain the honor, the integrity, and the existence of our National Union.’”
Proclamation 92—Warning to Rebel Sympathizers
“[On] July 17, 1862,…I, Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States, do hereby proclaim to and warn all persons within the contemplation of said sixth section to cease participating in, aiding, countenancing, or abetting the existing rebellion or any rebellion against the Government of the United States and to return to their proper allegiance to the United States on pain of the forfeitures and seizures as within and by said sixth section provided.”
_______________________________________________________________________________
Now President Donald J. Trump MUST pull a full “Lincoln” and close the border, impose martial law, prosecute a war against the communist rebellion without a formal declaration, shred the Communist Manifesto and irrevocably extirpate all principles of communism in America, implement the “manifest tenor” of the Constitution and Bill of Rights including absolute freedom, absolute free enterprise, absolute free markets, absolute private property, and a substantial diminution of taxation and regulation, eliminate the Departments of Labor, Education, Agriculture, Energy, HUD, and EPA, issue the “Deportation Proclamation” deporting all illegal aliens, past and present, including those who illegally pursued citizenship as criminal border crossers and “asylum” seekers who all made false and fraudulent claims of phantom, nonexistent persecution as foreign citizens with no U.S. rights, establish coherent voter qualifications by State legislatures per the Constitution, declare English the sole official language of the United States, suspend habeas corpus, smash opposition printing presses, networks, podcasts, social media platforms, etc., and throw anyone and everyone who opposes him in prison to Save the Union until America is placed squarely back on the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
Now President Donald J. Trump MUST pull a full “Lincoln”
Confederate Communist Democrats repeatedly chant the same things while attempting to float their flimsy little false flag warships
George, you shouldn’t be trusted to be the captain of a single person life raft with your shoe to use as a paddle.
Absurd is the best descriptive word for the leftist of this world. They not only want to ban public speech but thought also, all under the guise of what I’m not totally sure, but with their Rose colored glasses firmly attached I’m sure it’s a false nirvana where the yellow brick path turns red hot the closer they get.
Journalist by many names (correspondent, newsman/woman, reporter or intelligencer) nowhere could I find commentary, personal or political under the definition of a journalist. So, I’m to assume that once a fact is interpreted with bias then it becomes commentary which is not journalism.
President (just love the sound of that word) Trump, could probably give a rat’s rump about the WHCA dinner, no matter when or where it’s held. The rejection confirms that the press is nothing more than the political arm of the Dems.
Hear, hear!
It’s their communist (liberal, progressive, socialist, democrat, RINO, AINO) Deep Deep State WHCA, not America’s.
A post about the media… and George’s hatred of his host Professor Turley and Trump leads to this about the Alien Enemies Act:
who stoppoed him from illegally deporting Venezuelans to El Salvador using a law that gives him no authority. The law in question can only be invoked when congress declares war.
George, this is far beyond your infantile level reading comprehension abilities, but ask somebody to explain SCOTUS’s Ludecke v. Watkins, 335 U.S. 160 (1948) to you.
Get them to explain what “predatory incursion” means.
If deliberate lying or feigned/actual ignorance were an offense here, Curious George The Marxist Monkey would be long gone.
There is no requirement for Congress to declare war. George’s first clue should be that that former Democrat presidents have used it where there was no ongoing war.
One of the most infamous racist and fascist Democrat presidents, Warren Wilson, was using it to intern German and Austro-Hungarian immigrants until 1922 – four years after the war ended, almost as long as the war lasted and much longer than our one year involvement in that war.
And then World War II ended in 1945, but the Truman administration used the law for internment and deportations until 1952.
George, show us one of your fellow Democrat commies in elected office or the media that are now telling us those former Democrat presidents were doing that illegally.
You are one of the worst Cheap Fake American commies posting here.
Jonathan: Well, what did you expect? That the second time around the press should be giddy to cover DJT? Especially when just weeks into his second term DJT barred the AP from the WH because they refused to accept DJT’s renaming the the Gulf of Mexico the “Gulf of America”. The AP has filed a lawsuit claiming DJT’s action was petty and vindictive–not to mention a violation of the AP’s 1st Amendment rights.
Now you are all upset that the Gridiron Club dinner did not toast DJT. Why should it? The current president is a “convicted felon” who rules with unlawful and unconstitutional decrees like a S. American dictator and declares the press is “an enemy of the people”. And as DJT trashes the Constitution do you really expect the press to cover him with “neutrality and objectivity”? Really, Jon?
What you neglect to mention is that during DJT’s first term he never once attended a WHCA dinner–although he was invited. Not once. And we know why. In 2011 DJT did attend one WHCA dinner where Obama was the featured speaker. The then President used humor to mock DJT–who doesn’t like humor and ridicule at his expense. DJT holds grudges forever. And that’s why he will never attend a WHCA dinner during the next four years and has told his press secretary not to attend this year’s dinner. DJT is petty and vindictive.
You claim the Gridiron and WHCA are engaged in “the effective disinviting of the president and his staff from these traditional dinners”. Nope. DJT disinvited himself years ago!
Who cares what the ONCE “respectable” press thinks? There is nothing the President can do to please them. So, even if a policy or WH actions benefit the nation and the world, the radicals would rather it hurt the President rather than help people.
They are unhinged and blinded by hatred. Who fawns over murderers and hardened criminals? The left. They opened the borders and used illegals as chess pieces to change the political character of our nation. They are funding the illegals to the tune of hundreds of billions. They want a voting block beholden to them. You want goodies? Then when we make you voters, vote for us. If they were potential Republican voters, the left would be on the border manning tanks and lobbing mortars at the illegals.
That is why they are screaming about the U.S. Agency for International Development (not aide). That was one of their slush funds. Boom!! The ammunition dump was hit.
Yes let the MS-13 and TDA terrorists gangs and the cartel destruction of our youth occur. Why not? Aren’t they targeting the heirs of white colonialism?
The radical left are bizarre and evil. Who in their right mind advocates for hardened thugs? Who “stands with Ukraine” so long as it is Ukrainian youth who are being chewed up in the maw of the perpetual war with Russia? They would never allow their precious children to fight a war. Wars are for the other guy.
What is happening is that many Americans are realizing what a bizarre revolution has been foisted on them by the crazies. The crazies are worst than the Jonestown Kool-Aide drinkers.
E.M.
Great comment!! Good point about how the insane and crazy leftists are for everything Trump and MAGA is against, even if it is violent criminal illegals, pro-Hamas terrorists or for more Forever wars. This is why the sane, normal, traditional or moderate Democrats have to give these people the boot out of their party. If they do not, the Democrat party will continue its downward spiral into the pit of evil.
Dennis – the MSM need Trump – Trump does not need the MSM.
To the extent I have an issue with Turley’s article it is that it is insignificant.
The MSM is dying. To they extent they have any hope of surviving – that hope rests with Trump.
They NEED Trump to survive. He is almost the only thing that gets them eyeballs, and even then people are going elsewhere – not because the MSM is hostile to Trump – but because they are nothing more than a propoganda arm of the democratic party.
The problems of the MSM are of their own making – Trump has not weaponized the govenrment to destroy them.
What the MSM has done to themselves is “criminal”
The country will survive and thrive, Trump will survive and thrive, the media will survive and thrive.
but it is an open question whether the MSM will survive much less thrive.
As to your ranting over the AP – Trump read Alynsky’s rules for radicals and he uses them better than the left.
Obama renamed mountains, Biden renamed forts. The left renames things all over the place, parks and holidays and buildings and ….
If the AP was still writing about Columbus day and Fort Bragg and Mount Washington – they would have some credibility by writing about the gulf of mexico.
Either things can be renamed – or they can’t. Either presidents can rename things or they can’t.
Either traditional names of things matter or they don’t.
They AP got suckered into an ideological fight that they did not belong in that made them look hypocritical.
That is THEIR problem – not Trump’s
I will be happy to return to the traditional names for EVERYTHING that have been used for atleast 100 years.
Until then – the body of water south of Louisianan is the Gulf of America, and AP can have access to special press events when either they refer to things by the names they have had for a century – or the names that the last party in power gave them.
But the AP does NOT control the name of things. Either tradition does or govenrment does.
All those of you on the left have done is to make yourselves look stupid.
Mt. Denali, Mt. Washington. Ft. Liberty, Ft. Bragg. Columbus day, indigenous peoples Day.
Regardless, those of you on the left keep picking lose-lose fights with Trump
and worse still – fights that Trump and his supporters are having fun with.
it exposes you as stupid and desparate.
Aparently you did not watch the Al Smith dinner during this election cycle.
Trump was roasted by those present.
Trump laughed and roasted them back.
Trump is famous for an excellent sense of humor.
Ellen DeGeneris introducing Trump doing a Green Acres skit at the 2005 Emmy awards.
Trump has been a guest or host on SNL repeatedly
Here is Trump in a skit on SNL in 2015
omg….love it!
John Say……….thank you for digging these up!
These are a tiny sample – if you look for them there are LOTS more on Youtube and elsewhere.
The left paints a fake picture of Trump. If you boher to look for it – Trump has a LONG reputation for random acts of charity.
He here a story on the news – and sends a check to pay off someones mortgage – lots of things like this.
Nearly everyone close to him says Trump has an excellent sense of humor and has no problem with absolutely brutal humor targing him – but it must be Funny and the purpose must be Humor – not sending a political message.
I think much of the public Humor like the emmy’s or SNL that Trump has engaged in is not well done, and embarrassing.
It is also self deprecating and fun. And Trump has no problems poking fun at himself of jokes at his own expense – so long as it is a two way street.
Maybe Trump is the greatest faker the world has ever known – and the MSM portrait of him is correct – as opposed to the one those who have met him paint.
And maybe the pee tapes are real.
But I would not bet on either.
If you beleive the MSM is wrong about most everything else – the collusion delusion, Covid, the hunter biden Diary, ….
Then why would you beleive their portrayal of Trump.
What I find most surprising is that it is taking so long for people to fully comprehend how badly the MSM has been crying wolf.
And how long it has taken for them to self destruct.
I recently watched a clipp from Bill murray savaging either woodward or Bernstein about a book they did on Belushi.
Murray said “Belushi was a close friend, he knew him well, and the book is so bad theat he now questions the WaPo reporting on Watergate”
Turley does not mostly get at the core issue with the MSM and modern journalism. It is not based on journalism school or neutrality or the past or current rules of journalism – EXCEPT as those flow from something more critical.
Journalism – as well as enormous portions of human life are about CREDIBILTY.
When you get caught in lies and do not correct yourself – you burn your credibility.
Old journalism standards are just suggestions as to how to build and maintain credibility.
Because that is what journalist are selling.
That is what nearly EVERYONE is selling.
You will not buy a burger at McD’s if every 3rd trip gives you an ecoli infection.
Every single place you buy something – that choices is because you beeleive that you are not being cheated.
Every time you sell something – including your own time – you are telling the buyer – you are not cheating them and YOU are trusting they will pay you.
Credibility is the core to the operation of EVERYTHING – journalism, government, free markets.
Lose it and you are headed towards homelessness.
First time I saw Trump on TV was on an episode of The Nanny.
Dennis – you asked about following the law and the court decisions.
The AEA has been used before – it has been to the supreme court before. There is Supreme court preceident regarding the lower corts review of the presidents actions with respect to the AEA.
Guess what SCOTUS said shortly after WWII ?
SCOTUS said the presidents removal of foreigners based on the AEA is non-reviewable by the courts.
That is not mean saying that.
That is not Trump saying that
That is not steve miller saying that.
That is the FDR Supreme court saying that.
Unreviewable – that means that the ONLY thing that Judge Boasberg had the slightest power over was the very narrow case the ACLU brought before him. Were these 5 individuals members of Tren De Arugua – that is the entirety of his jurisdiction.
If these 5 people were not Tren De Arugua members – then and only then could Judge Boasberg begine a traditional deportation analysis – which would have delayed their departure breifly – but still ultimately lead to those 5 people getting on a plane for El Salvador.
So long as those 5 people were Tren De Arguaua members – the case is closed. The judge is done. He has no power to review the presidents use of the AEA.
Why did SCOTUS decide that the AEA was not reviewable by the courts ? BYE the oppinion notes that presidents might abuse this power or use it in ways that people do not like. It does not matter – this was a foreign policy power of the president of the United States.
Biden Botched the withdrawl from Afghanistan – can some the ACLJ – the right wing equivalent of the ACLU go to court and challenge Biden’s handling of the withdraw from afghanistan ? Absolutely not. Steven Miller was completely correct when he said – the court can not direct US aircraft carriers.
I would note that in general illegal aliens inside the US have almost no rights at all. As dershowitz noted – they have a right to habeus corpus and that is about it. That essentially means that if the President says – You are an illegal alien and I am going to deport you – the courts get to decide ONLY if that person actually is an illegal alien. I think Derschowitz SLIGHTLY overstated the power of the president regarding illegal aliens.
Derschowitz was arguing that Trump did NOT need the AEA to immediately deport Tren De Arugua members. That he could do so as part of his foriegn policy powers which are NOT REVIEW ABLE BY THE COURTS.
I want to make clear – Roberts statement that we should trust the apellate process – is GENERALLY correct.
But there is a problem – and it is Roberts job as Cheif Justice to address it, when numerous courts are routinely acting UNLAWFULLY.
Let me repeat that because it is YOU that do not seem to grasp that.
Judge Boasberg – by existing supreme court precedent did NOT have the power to do ANYTHING beyond establish that these 5 individuals are tren de arugua members. He has no authority over the deportation of anyone who was a tren de arugua member, he had no authority over the flight.
He did not even have the authority to question the constitutionality of the AEA – SCOTUS already decided that and they decided that it is a foreign policy power and the presidents excerscise of it is NOT REVIEWABLE.
And this is likely why the Trump administration is using that power.
#74. FUBAR best describes it.
Overall DJT is preparing for war and he doesn’t want to lose. This partially explains the reason such opinions rendered by a judge regarding the Venezuelan deportations is critical. This judge is NOT privy to the information of a president, Secret Service persons and the military. These judges need slapping down hard.
Trump tried to use a law that can only be used after congress declares war. That’s why the judge is correct. Trump cannot deport Venezuelans under the Alien Enemies act. Because congress has not declared war on Venezuela, and we are not at war with Venezuela. The act specifically requires that we be in a state of declared war in order to deport without due process those Venezuelans who may not even be members of the gang Trump claims.
FIFTH CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES:
At the Second Session,
Begun and held at the city of Philadelphia, in the state of Pennsylvania, on Monday, the thirteenth of November, one thousand seven hundred and ninety-seven.
An Act Concerning Aliens.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and the House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That it shall be lawful for the President of the United States at any time during the continuance of this act, to order all such aliens as he shall judge dangerous to the peace and safety of the United States, or shall have reasonable grounds to suspect are concerned in any treasonable or secret machinations against the government thereof, to depart out of the territory of the United States,….

“…OR ANY INVASION OR PREDATORY INCURSION SHALL BE PERPETRATED…”
An Act Respecting Alien Enemies
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That whenever there shall be a declared war between the United States and any foreign nation or government, or any invasion or predatory incursion shall be perpetrated, attempted, or threatened against the territory of the United States, by any foreign nation or government, and the President of the United States shall make public proclamation of the event, all natives, citizens, denizens, or subjects of the hostile nation or government, being males of the age of fourteen years and upwards, who shall be within the United States, and not actually naturalized, shall be liable to be apprehended, restrained, secured and removed, as alien enemies.
@George
You are an idiot with a child’s grasp of the law. It is good that you are nothing more meaningful than a troll on a blog.
Really: your level of ignorance is embarrassing for a person your age, as I am pretty dang sure you aren’t a younger person. Thankfully, the rest of us are a great deal more astute than you, seemingly by every measure.
“An Act Respecting Alien Enemies
Releasing prisonors from Venezeulan prisons and sending them to the US meets the requirment of a “predatory incursion””
I would further note the act does not Require a specific trigger to occur – the mere THREAT is sufficient.
Sorry – several others posted the text of the act.
Regardless, there is more than enough in the test for Trump’s EO.
At the same time the Judge has sufficient basis in this instance for a TRO.
But not to order aircraft already out of US airspace to return.
I expect this judge will permanently rule against Trump. But Trump has a good chance of winning on apeal.
However trying to extent this EO past Venezeuallans is not possible. and the public might be turned off if it goes beyond Tren De ARgua members.
At the same time – Trump has once again gotten the left to fly into a box canyon and oppose a popular measure.
More people are angry with the left for trying to stop the rapid deportation of Tren De Argua criminals than with Trump
John Say,
Well said and spot on about more people being angry or in my case, just plain flabbergasted at how far the leftists will go to defend known violent criminals, terrorists just because Trump is for common sense, logic and what the rest of us want. It just goes to show how TDS is a real thing.
After learing more I was incorrect – the Judge did NOT have the basis for a TRO.
This case was brought by the ACLU claiming that 5 alleged Tren De Argua members being deported were NOT Tren De Aruagua mebers.
A judges jurisdiction is limited to the case before him.
The only legitimate order he could have issued in this case was to remove those 5 people from these planes prior to final resolution of the case. He likely still has jurisdiction to order those 5 people to be returned to the US. But he does not have the authority to direct airplanes or warships or really pretty much outside the country or outside the specific case in front of him.
While the more I learn the more clear it is that the Alien Enemies act CLEARLY applies here – that Trump is following the LETTER of the law. At the same time – there MUST be some means by which the actions of the federal government are subject to judicial review.
I do not know if the ACLU is right or wrong about the 5 people it claims are not Tren De Arguagua – but whether I like them stepping in or not – the courts do have power to verify that those being deported meet the criteria of the law.
It is also possible for plantiffs to challenge the constitutionality of the law itself or this application of the law.
The there is no declared war claim is DOA – that is not the requirement of the law. The government of Venezeula releasing Tren De Argua criminals and encourgaing them to travel to the US – meets the requirements of the law. There is even the possibility of criminal charges against those who PAID for their transportation to the US (Sorros so I hear).
Regardless the Alien Enemies act can be challened facially or as applied – but I do not think that gets you a TRO. Further it requires a facial or as applied legal challenge – and there isn’t one.
Regardless this whole thing is a huge mess – and the reason it is a mess is because the judges are not acting within their jurisdiction.
Courts can not expand their own jurisdiction – the case before Boasberg is about 5 people – not 3 planeloads of people.
It is about Their membership in Tren De Araugua – not the facial or as applied constitutionality of the law.
Boasberg can not rule on issues that are not before him.
Courts can not have views on policy. They can not create jurisdiction.
They are limited to the case in front of them and the issue in front of them.
This is the “elite” media, for what it’s worth. And that’s less and less everyday.
Turley’s MAGA-purchased advocacy falls into several predictable categories–today’s is to attack non-MAGA media, and to try to sell Trump as a legitimate person to be President of the United States. Beginning with the latter–Trump lacks the character and temperament to be the leader of the free world, and he is a defective person due to his malignant narcissism, his sociopathic need to lie, and his jealously of others–the best examples are his jealousy of Biden, who was far more-successful that he ever was or will be. He just can’t shut up about Joe Biden, and has a pathological need to try to reverse everything Biden did, even if it hurts Americans. Then there’s the beak-mouthed phony blondie “press secretary” who thinks she has earned some right to insult a former U.S. President and attack journalists who try to explain that tariffs are really a sales tax–and that THEY ARE PAID BY THE IMPORTER–NOT THE COUNTRY FROM WHICH THE GOODS WERE ORDERED. That is a simple fact that Trump denies so the stupid loser fake blondie also lies about it. Are mainstream media just supposed to go along with this BS? Why? He also attacks and feels the need to bully Justin Trudeau, Claudia Scheinbaum, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Emanuel Macron, and Keir Starmer because they: are younger, more physically fit, better-looking, more popular with their constituents and didn’t have to lie or cheat their way into office. Trump’s sick ego is on display every single day and Americans are thoroughly tired of him.
Trump is also incompetent in many ways, such as knowledge of economics–he believes that tariffs bring in money and won’t listen to virtually everyone who tries to tell him differently. The money from tariffs comes from AMERICAN COMPANIES that ordered the goods, and they pass along the cost to the rest of us–that jacks up inflation, which we are already seeing. He knows little to nothing about world history, US history, how the US government works, especially our triparte system of checks and balances, and the importance of alliances with our neighbors and European allies–as numerous former members of his administration have pointed out–he is civics–illiterate. Everything about this person is geared toward his massive ego and need to feel he is “winning”. When facts prove otherwise, he just lies and MAGA media broadcasts the lies. When Judges rule against him, he refuses to obey their orders, calls them names and Republicans file articles of impeachment–is the press supposed to go along with this? No previous President ever did this.
So, according to Turley, if mainstream media don’t kiss Trump’s ass, when they comment on his blatant flaws and failues, his disrespect for the rule of law and his daily gaffes, they have thrown out “neutrality and objectivity”, and if they don’t pump out the lies MAGA media feeds to its followers about Joe Biden and Hunter Biden, they are “running interference” for Biden. Turley wants to speak of “tradition”–we’ve never had a convicted felon in the White House. We’ve never had in our White House someone who sent his fans to attack the Capitol because he lost an election, who pardoned those who beat up police officers, someone who stole funds form a charitable foundation, who was adjudicated liable for sexual assault, who falsified business records to cover up liaisons with a nude model and porn actress, and who brags about sexually assaulting women. How about consulting with the military for taking over the Panama Canal, claiming that the US is going to take over Greenland and Canada? How about implementing Project 2025 that he lied about being his playbook because he KNEW Americans opposed it?
Turley wants to compare Trump with other presidents–that’s not fair–Trump is not a legitimate person to be President, and he cheated both times to get into office. The function of the Fourth Estate is to speak truth to power. Turley claims that Trump gives “long interviews and press conferences”—yeah, to MAGA media who never call him out when he lies, which is constantly, and he refuses to acknowledge mainstream media that don’t kiss up to that enormous ego of his–like the AP that wouldn’t go along with his re-naming the Gulf of Mexico. But, according to Turley, mainstream media are supposed to “toast” this pathetic excuse for a human because that is “tradition”?
Trump is legitimately the president.
He won an election in which nothing was too low for you to stoop to to stop him from winning.
In which the only reason you did not engage in large scale ballot box stuffing was because over 1/4 million poll watchers and lawyers were watching carefully. Trump won the popular vote, swept the electoral college and won both the house and the senate.
And he did so with the media nearly 100% opposed to him, and while you were calling him a nazi. fascist, and his election the end of democracy.
While you were busy trying to throw him in jail everywhere you could and throw him off the ballot if you could.
Trump beat a TSUNAMI of opposition from You to win the election.
Absolutely he is the legitimate president of the united states.
You are not obligated to like that. But it is still undeniably true.
From “Fox News”: “I won on the border, and I won on groceries,” the president-elect said in an interview on NBC News’ “Meet the Press.”
Trump then drilled down on the high grocery prices that millions of Americans are paying as a key reason for his convincing White House victory over Vice President Kamala Harris.
President-elect Trump takes the stage before he speaks at the FOX Nation Patriot Awards, Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024, in Greenvale, New York. (AP Photo/Heather Khalifa)
“Very simple word, groceries. Like almost – you know, who uses the word? I started using the word – the groceries. When you buy apples, when you buy bacon, when you buy eggs, they would double and triple the price over a short period of time, and I won an election based on that,” Trump emphasized in his interview, which was recorded on Friday and broadcast on Sunday.”
TRUMP LIED ABOUT GROCERIES AND THE BORDER. Trump HAS to lie to get what he wants–just ask Stormy Daniels–he lied about taking her to dinner to discuss making her a contestant on “The Apprentice” to get her to his hotel room. His criminal convictions were based on falsifying business records to cover up a bribe for her to keep quiet. THAT’s why he is not, and never will be viewed as legitimately entitled to the honor of the U.S. Presidency by rational people. Who is the “YOU” to which you refer? Trump IS a criminal–he did the crimes for which he was convicted and would have been convicted of the theft of classified documents and starting the insurrection, for which he was INDICTED by a grand jury if his lies hadn’t worked. Moderate people who believed his lies have buyer’s remorse. Now, he’s using the power of the presidency to go after his perceived enemies, calling for the impeachment of judges who rule against him, claiming he can “rescind” Biden’s pardons, allowing his largest campaign donor the power to push around and fire federal employees and implementing Project 2025, after lying about that being the playbook.
There was NO “tsunami”–Trump didn’t even get half of the votes that were cast. And , no, myself and reasonable people do not accept a politician who “wins” by lying about immediately bringing down the cost of groceries–when he had no plan or ability to do this, who is legitimately a convicted felon, who pardoned over a thousand people who broke into the Capitol, trashed the building and beat up police officers, who brags about grabbing women by their privates, who is an adjudicated sexual assaulter, who calls migrants “animals, vermin, murderers, rapists and criminals”, who announces he’s just going to ignore court orders, who bans the AP because it couldn’t be bullied into calling the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America…the list goes on and on. He also started a trade war and boasts about forcing Canada to be a state, “taking back” the Panama Canal–which never belonged to the US in the first place, and taking over Greenland. He has alienated our closest neighboring countries and NATO allies and is doing everything he can to help Russia get away with invading Ukraine to steal its territory–the start of what might well be WW III because Putin won’t stop with Ukraine. And, don’t forget that he’s planning to force the Palestinian people out of Gaza in order to turn their land into the Riviera of the Middle East.
GooGoo
You can keep your doctor if you like your doctor.
I will never pardon my son.
I never had sex with that woman.
The riots were due to an anti Islam film.
STFU
Gigi, you are a fool. The border is almost completely secure while it was open under Biden to terrorists, murderers, and rapists.
The rate of increase in the price of groceries has markedly fallen. Prices increased over 23% under Biden and are now leveling out. They will fall shortly.
Why are you so ignorant?
Trump won for a very large number or reasons – including the border, the price of groceries and everything else I mentioned.
Nearly all of the reasons Trump won – can be expressed in two words.
You Failed.
You failed at the border
you failed at your lawfare
you failed at your attempts to rig the election.
But Trump did not win because according to you he lied. He did not win because he promised the price of eggs would go down on day one.
He won because people KNEW that if they elected Biden – the disaster of the past 4 years would go on 4 more.
If you wish to beleive Daniels – you are free to do so. I listened to her testimony and it is not credible -for many reasons.
ONE of which is large inconsistancies. She knew every detail of Trump’s hotel room – like she had thoroughly studdied it before testifying.
But she did not know how she got from her Hotel to his, or even Where her own hotel was.
Next Trump did not pay Daniels – Cohen did.
Absolutely no one testified otherwise.
Next NDA’s are not bribes – they are perfectly legal.
Next people pay others for an NDA so that they will not make some embarrassing truth public.
They also pay others for an NDA so they will not make some embarassing falsehood public.
Trump paid for an NDA to stop the story that he had fathered an illegitimate child with some made – it was totally false – even Mueller investigated it and found it garbage.
Clinton paid 1.4M dollars for the Steele dossier – a complete peice of garbage.
How much do you think she would have paid for Daniels story – IF IT WAS TRUE ?
The amount Daniels got for her story was 1/10th what Clinton paid for the Steele Dossier.
Daniels may not be truthful – but she is smart.
Her story – if true has far more value to Clinton than Trump
So why was she negotiating with Cohen rather than Sussman ?
Because going public with a false story is defamation.
While getting paid to be quiet about a false story is arguably legal.
If Daniels story was true – she would have sold it to Clinton.
Personally I do not care if the story is true – that is between Melania and Trump.
Further while Trump is absolutely a family man, he is also a serial adulterer.
That is no secret. Melania is not his first wife, she is not his second.
If you marry Johnny Carson – you can expect that in time he will cheat on you.
Once upon a time I would have said that disqualifies you from being president.
But FDR cheated on elenor, Eisenhower Cheated on Mamie, JFK cheated on Jackie, LBJ cheated on ladybird, and Bill cheated on Hillary.
And other presidents – we do not know.
Further you ignored testimoney for prosecution witnesses – though ones that never should have been allowed to testify,
Trump told those who were aware of the Daniels allegation that politically the story would hurt him with women – but help him with men, and it would likely be a wash – but that it would be hurtful to Melania – which is Why Trump tasked Cohen with dealing with these stories.
Trump did not direct Cohen to kill True stories. He did not task Cohen with investigating whether the stories were true – he just told him to make them go away.
Which was done legally.
I would further note it is not possible for one private person to bribe another.
Bribery is public corruption – it requires paying someone in govenrment for something they are not supposed to do for personal profit.
Daniels was not in government. Trump was not at the time – bribery was not possible.
We are back to the core of your case being perfectly legal acts that precluded you from learning something that was not your right to know and that may or may not be true. Still nothing illegal.
Harris’s husband apparently raped the nanny and got her pregnant and then forced her to get an abortion.
The MSM burried that story – were they Bribed ? or was that just corruption ?
Harris slept her way into money and power – getting her job as the SF DA when she was about to be fired, because of her intimate relationship with Married Willie Brown, and Willie also got her a high paying no work side gig.
And where is that McDonald’s Harris worked at ?
And your ready to go to the mat – to try to throw trump is prison because he called payments to a lawyer a legal expense in private records ?
allegedly to what hide the fact that they were for an NDA paying Daniels to not talk publicly about consensual sex that was may or may not have happened and got Daniels nothing.
You say Daniels slept with Trump to get on the celebrity apprentice – but she did not get on the celebrity apprentice.
In fact Trump told his staff not to take her calls – again Your prosecutors testimony.
Gigi,
I want the public to openly and constantly associate Joe Biden with Delaware.
I want them to FORGET Scranton Joe.
I want them to FORGET that the two worst presidents in US history both hail from Pennsylvania.
I want the public to associate Joe with Delaware not Pennsylvania, where I am from.
Joe Biden was the worst president in US history bar none.
Your constant fawning over Biden is pure stupidity on your part.
Nothing you say about Biden is True.
Contra your claims Biden actually inherited a country ready to go, Starting to break free from the shackles of Covid.
Biden could have done NOTHING and been remembered as great.
I WARNED republicans in Feb 2021 NOT to count their 2022 Eggs until they hatched.
Had Joe Biden done what he promised and just been a caretaker president.
Had he left the economy alone. Had he left foreign policy as it was, had he left energy policy as it was.
Had he treated J6 as it was – a political protest gone wrong, and not tried to make it into something more than it was.
The country would have boomed, there would be little or no inflation. Incomes would have risen.
There would be no wars in Ukraine or Gaza, And Kamala Harris could have walked into the presidency in 2024 in a landslide against ANY republican.
But that is not what Biden did. As Barack Obama once said – “Do not under estimate Biden’s ability to F#$K anything up”.
And he did.
I do not beleive that you are actually so stupid to beleive the idiotic claims you make about Biden.
Regardless, you further undermine your own credibility everytime you make them.
You would be wise to stop.
John Say,
Great comment.
@John
They do indeed undermine their own credibility every day. That there does not appear to be anyone within the party telling them to slow their roll is something worth considering. I have long thought the DNC would at the least fracture if not implode when this radicalism became prominent; I guess time will tell. Whatever happens, we cannot ever again think this globalist party cares a whit about our founding or our laws. Those days are long gone, and not coming back.
I am deeply concerned for the Democratic party.
We need TWO political parties in this country – it is not good long term for any country to have a single dominant party.
But the Democratic party is in deep trouble. About 10% of the country is far left – that is about 1/3 of the Democratic party.
Without their support – Democrats can not win elections. And the far left has increasingly made it clear – they will sit out elections rather than vote for moderate democrats.
The rest of the democratic party (as well as the country) is increasingly alienated by the far left.
But the far left has democrats over a barrell.
To survive – the democratic party MUST be willing to hard break with the far left, and that means CHOOSING to lose alot of elections, until either the far left comes arround or enough people from the center return to voting for democrats.
But Democrats are doubling down on the far left. Increasingly defending very unpopular positions.
Lets assume that Trump LOSES all his EO battles.
The result will be Democrats OWN waste and fraud in govenrment
Democrats OWN every bad thing illegal aliens do.
I think there is no chance Trump will win his Birthright citizenship EO – but he will win the political battle.
He comes off as the person trying to solve a problem and democrats come off as the obstacle.
Trump is on firm legal ground on most of his EO’s.
But whether Trump Wins or Loses – Democrats lose politically for opposing popular measures.
Trump has Democrats voting against puppies.
Alynskys rules for Radicals are typically associated with the left.
But if you read them it is self evident that Trump knows them and instinctively uses them.
The Rules
“Power is not only what you have but what the enemy thinks you have.”
“Never go outside the experience of your people.”
“Whenever possible go outside of the experience of the enemy.”
“Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.”
“Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon. There is no defense. It is almost impossible to counterattack ridicule. Also it infuriates the opposition, who then react to your advantage.”
“A good tactic is one your people enjoy.”
“A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag.”
“Keep the pressure on.”
“The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself.”
“The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition.”
“If you push a negative hard and deep enough it will break through into its counterside; this is based on the principle that every positive has its negative.”
“The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative.”
“Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.”
We need TWO political parties in this country – it is not good long term for any country to have a single dominant party.
John, I understand your concern, but I would suggest we do have two dominant parties; Republicans and Independents. I will even go so far to say that Independents outnumber Republicans; with the Independents comprising registered Independents and registered Republicans and Democrats that vote with their conscience and not their party.
You’ve never been to the once-free, once-great, once-actual American, one-party communist state of California.
I’ve lived in California since 1979. And while it is run by communist-leaning regime, it certainly isn’t a communist state. We’ll see how things shake out in the 2026 midterms.
You are correct – but there is a difference between a large block of independents that determine which party wins the election,
and a political party that creates a platform and runs on that platform.
Arguably independents are 50% of the country and decide nearly all elections.
But they do not run candidates – they decide between republican candidates and democrats.
So long as Democrats are a failed party – the choice is between republicans and insanity, And republicans will win that.
One of the critical reasons for free speech, one of the critical reasons that silencing misinformation is WRONG – both morally and practically, is that without an alternative view even those on the right track will run off the rails eventually.
Republicans need a strong opposition – to keep them from going off the rails.
Independents get to choose between Republicans and democrats.
They get to pick the lessor evil. They do not have much of a voice in what are choices are -= just which one prevails.
Democrats MUST be fixed or replaced – or Republicans will eventually go off the rails.
Or worse we could devolve into a multiparty country.
I am VERY libertarian I vote for the libertarian candidate in elections most of the time when their is one.
I would be ecstatic if the democratic party got replaced by the libertarian party, or became the libertarian party.
But I do not think that a three+ party system is a good idea. It has worked badly accorss the world.
I see the libertairan party as mostly like you see independents.
As casting the deciding vote.
Republicans need a strong opposition – to keep them from going off the rails.
I left the GOP and registered as an Independent. I too am strongly libertarian. Even if the Republican party cleanses itself of the statists to become reliably constitutionally-conservative, I won’t go back, regardless of what their party platform consists of. I want them to never feel comfortable thinking their registered base is a lock.
“I want them to never feel comfortable thinking their registered base is a lock.”
Hear him, hear him!
Absolutely agree.
John Say,
I am of the opinion sane, normal, traditional and moderate Democrats need to get the far leftists out of their party. The far leftists, especially those with TDS like Gigi, are dragging the Democrat party down. And running on opposing Trump on everything like defending known violent criminal illegals or pro-Hamas terrorists is not a winning hand. It is quite obvious to nearly everyone without TDS, USAID was a leftist slush fund. Of course they are decrying Musk and DOGE cutting off their free money for leftist causes. And Bill Clinton, campaigning for Harris, even said that if that violent rapist and murderer of Laken Riley had been properly vetted, she would likely be alive today. Then what did Democrats do when Riley’s mother and another mother who’s child was assaulted, rape and murdered by more of Biden’s illegals? They would not stand. They would not applaud. They were disrespectful. And they put on display how evil they have become for the whole nation to see.
The Democratic party today keeps CHOOSING to jump into lose-lose battles.
I am not sure there is a way out.
You want them to purge the left – 15 years ago – that might have worked. Today they can not win an election for garbage collector without the support of the far left.
The problem is they also increasingly can not win with the support of the far left.
I do not see a way out for democrats today. But then I did not see Trump winning in 2016.
Compared to those on the left – I think my crystal ball has been polished and clear.
Compared to Trump – it is smeared in tar.
One of the most notable things that Musk says with his press conferences – is “we are just scratching the surface.”
One of the big changes in 2025 is that Trump controlls the narative.
Democrats are fighting him on the ground of his choosing.
Musk is going to be rolling out new stories of waste and fraud in government for the next several years.
Those on the left do not seem to graps that the lawfare they are engaging in is to Trump’s advantage.
Lets assume Trump loses the Alien Enemies Act fight . What is the result ?
Trump is the hero who tried and would have succeeded but for the legt to deprt Tren De Argua.
Lets say the left slows deportations to molasses. politically Trump wins and the democrats lose and the story drags on for ever.
Democrats are fighting to rip the bandaide off illegal immigrationa and fraudulent govenrment spending millimeter by millimeter.
But that serves Trump not them.
I do not think this judge should be impeached over his TRO. While he is one of the more opolitically corrupt judges – THIS TRO is not inherently wrong. The irrepairable harm is deporting people – waiting until the end of the case is messy but not irrepairable.
That did I think Trump wins.
But what if he does not ? This is a political win for Trump regardless and a political loss for democrats regardless.
you got to know when to hold’em, know when to fold’em, know when to walk away, know when to run.
https://youtu.be/7hx4gdlfamo
“Democrats need to get the far leftists out of their party. “
Upstate, Democrats who voted for Harris should get out as well. If they didn’t recognize the problems faced they are complicit with the crazies like Gigi, Dennis and the circus act, George Svelaz.
This is not about “ass kissing”
These press dinners are supposed to be fun traditions – the press good naturedly roasts the president and the president good naturedly slapps back. It is not supposed to be serious.
But the MSM has made it serious, and by doing so – they have made it irrelevant.
Trump does not need these dinners. He has also proven in this election that he does not need the MSM.
Turley fixates on the barbs that Trump and the press are trading – those are of small relevance.
Like the Democratic party – the MSM is collapsing. If people wanted the MSM to be the fully owned Democrats propoganda service – their ratings would not be in the toilet and new media would not be crushing them. I would note a substantial part of the new media is from the center left. Turley is new media, Rogan is new media, Barri Weiss is new media, Matt Taibi, Micheal Schellenberger, Sasha Stone, Dave Rubin, Glenn Greenwald even Alan Derschowitz are all new media and 10 years ago they would all have been identified as on the left.
I do not think the MSM will survive. But if they are going to – they NEED TRUMP – not the other way arround.
Trump does not need the MSM.
Turley is complaining about Trump blocking the AP from some press events – but Trump could just as easily block the entirety of the MSM.
He could and probably should decrease the participation of MSNBC, CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC WaPo, Time, NYT even Fox in WH or even other government press coverage and give those seats to those from the new media.
They have earned it. We do not need or want fawning coverage of the president – we want accurate unbiased factual coverage. We can all form our own oppinions – we do not need the MSM to tell us what to think.
Regardless – Trump being excluded by traditional MSM press events – harms the press, not Trump.
Trump should call up Joe Rogan and have him gather other new media figures and start their own event – outside of DC.
John Say,
Well said and spot on!! The good professor is just pointing out how irrelevant MSM has become. And +1 on the idea of Joe Rogan and others getting together for their own event. It would show exactly how irrelevant MSM has become. The Free Press had their own gala on Trump’s inauguration day, with a number of high ranking politicians, business people, and others in attendance.
One of the deepest and most observant posts recently has been that of Van Jones saying that Trump si obviously smarter than us all.
Van Jones periodically hits one out of the ballpark – unfortunately often within mnutes he reverts to his just shy of far left norm.
Regardless Trump IS far smarter then the rest of us.
I laughed when Trump descended the Escalator to announce in 2015. I though he was TOAST when he Attack McCain for being a POW.
John McCain was a mixed bag as a politician. But he was a genuine war hero.
But Trump did not skip a beat. He won the GOP nomination. I expected he would lose to Hillary a few weeks out the polls looked like McCain/Obama and that did not end well. Somehow he pulled it off and won the election.
The past 60 days make it clear both what Trump has learned since 2017 and how much opposition he faced in his first term.
And yet despite the Russia Russia Russia nonsense and the open hostility of the deep state, and lots of pushback from house and senate republicans, Trump did very well in his first term. His deregulation – probably boosted the economy by $1T/year alone.
I did not expect him to be good at foreign policy – but he was the best foreign policy president since Nixon/Kissenger – and probably better than they were. He brought the economy from 1/4% growth to near 3% growth – that is good – though we CAN do much better, we just have not in over a century. He also anticipated major shifts in political and international power.
And the guy does not sweat – something over 100 indictments and he is STILL beating the crap out of Biden and Harris ?
But it is not 2017. This time Trump is taking over Washington with an Army. Interestingly the narrow margins of the GOP in the house and Senate have helped him with his cabinet. He had to take care NOT to pick congressmen that would upset the balance of power in the house or senate. Nearly all his few cabinet picks from Congress are near perfectly politically aligned with him and from very safe red seats.
What he has NOT head to do was pick a bunch of people to Placate the McConnells and other establishment republicans.
Trump OWNS the GOP today – because Republican voters are Trump voters. Voters support Trump, and Trump’s agenda.
They support Republican candidates – to the extent they adhere to the MAGA agenda.
All this and more are massive accomplishments – in a fairly short period while facing massive opposition.
The MSM is on its back foot, and in a fight for survival – and STILL making stupid chooices.
The Democratic party is busy destroying itself.
It is very very early – but if things continue as they are – Republicans could have the first instance of a party in power GAINING in midterms.
Again that is all on Trump.
Though I do wish to clarify.
With some exceptions Trump did not MAKE the world change.
We get idiots like Gigi who think that the election turned on Trump saying that the price of eggs would drop on day one.
Trump is more like a surfer who KNOWS exactly where to find the wave and get ahead of it.
No matter what the issue.
The US is not leaving NATO – not now, not in 2017. But NATO is absolutely less and less important and Asia is more and more important.
Trump is not the only person who understood that. But he did so early – and he did so BIG, when everyone else was tiptoing.
Trump found the wave and got ahead of it when everyone else was falling behind.
And this is only one issue.
Trump has been way ahead of the rest of us AND right when myriads of the smartest people did NOT understand what was happening.
I can understand why Trump and Musk get along. While Musk has been vastly more personally successful – albeit in a much narrower domain. Both of them see the future before the rest of us and position themselves to be on the sweet spot of the curl of a tsunami that few even saw coming.
Correction 1.4% groth under Obama – not 1/4% – even Obama was not that bad a president.
John Say,
Despite not having the experience of inside DC in his first term, Trump’s presidency was very good till COVID. But that would of hurt any president. However, while Biden was in the WH, Trump clearly now knew and learned from his first term. He came up with a short list of people whom he knew were smart, passionate and patriots. I read a interview with US Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent, Trump asked him how could they fix the deficit without tanking the economy 18 months prior to the election. So, they have had a game plan for sometime now. And from that interview and others, Trump is focusing on Main St. vs Wall St. His policy is to get from a public spending policy aka expanding the government to a private commercial growth. The transition from one to the other is going to cause some pain but we will get out on the other side much stronger. Same thing clearly goes for his secure border, his foreign policy. He had a plan prior to even the GOP convention. Just saw the price of eggs is down for the third week in a row.
UpstateFarmer – we are in agreement – but like Van Jones remakrs that Trump is smarter than the rest of us – we are Behind the wave trying to catch up.
While Turley is an actual bonafied part of the new media – even he is way behind the leading edge.
There is nothing wrong with this article. Except that it is inconsequential
Few care about these MSM gala’s – because the MSM is increasingly irrelervant.
They are Gigi shouting into the wind with no one listening.
I mentioned Rogan doing something – Rogan is the god of the moment in new media. Possibly even more so than before because of the role he played in the election. Rogan should do something.
But we are on Turely.org and Turley is a new media leading light.
Rather than dwelling on the irrelevant White House correspondents dinner, he could put his effort towards some New Media event.
I found nothing wrong with Turley’s post – except that I just do not care about the MSM.
If Trump shat in the lobby of MSNBC – I would not care. But Trump will not do that – because MSNBC is not worthy of the attention.
I love roasts. I liked the Al Smith Dinner – that was a big boost for Trump and another flop for Harris.
Showing up and taking the good natured jabs of all present – is a big boost. Had she ACTUALLY been able to deliver some zingers of her own, That would have been better.
Trump has numerous appearances at roasts or SNL hosting or other playful or comedic events.
Trump is relaxed confident and prepared for this – and while not a stand up comedian. He can hold his own.
Anyway back on Track – the new media should do their own thing.
And instead of Turely writing about the intrigues of the White House Correspondence dinner he should put time and effort into what replaces it.
Yawn. Your posting just means you are awake. You remembered your TDS today, what a surprise. 🙄 Amazing how that works. Let us know when you are about to be shooting at the rest of us.
Temper tantrums used to be reserved for very young children; in 2025, apparently, anything goes, for anyone. I will literally smack the next affiliated liberal that dares to talk about ‘decorum’ upside the head. Gently. You people are absurd.
James,
Respectfully, I disagree. They need a good ol’ fashion beeotch slap. Then, and only then, they just might wake up from their crazy TDS and get back to reality.
The MSM will adapt or die. My bet would be they die. It is increasingly getting too late.
The mad, impetuous Michael Cohen took out a HELOC to obtain funds to buy the silence of Trump’s sex partners. Had Trump used his repayment cash, there would never have been an issue, because billionaires — like Bloomberg — can spend as much as they like on their own campaigns.
But Trump wanted to make Cohen whole, so he set up a repayment schedule.
Hillary Clinton did the same thing, except she mislabeled Steele Dossier payments as “Legal Services” The FEC even fined her — and the DNC for their role — for the deception.
But the state of New York never bothered to prosecute her for this slam dunk case.
Gigi, you are everything that a bull dyke thinks of as being the perfect son to have.

60% of actual Americans voted for President Donald J. Trump.
The rest, communists (liberals, progressives, socialists, democrats, RINOs, AINOs) who are literally direct and mortal enemies of the American Thesis of Freedom and Self-Reliance, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, Americans, and America, are as worthy of the issuance of orders “to depart out of the territory of the United States” as Tren de Aragua.
