In Hot Water: YETI Bars Conservative Group from Customizing Cups

It is not clear how this policy has been applied and whether CBL was barred as political or hateful or other criteria. I am assuming that the word “conservative” triggered the response.

Even assuming that this is evenly applied, how is “political” defined? Does this mean that the Democratic party or pro-choice groups also are stuck with cold coffee?

There are plenty of “political” groups that buy YETIs that do not have “liberal” or “conservative” in their names. Many contribute to elections or engage in lobbying. A wide range of groups have “political affiliations or organizations.” These are generally not-for-profits engaged in free speech activities. Selling them a YETI cup is no more of an endorsement than their buying hats made by Custom Ink.

Would this order have been filled if it simply read “Clare Boothe Luce Center”? If so, this becomes a rather superficial policy.

The YETI policy seems hopelessly subjective and potentially . . . you guessed it . . . political.

  1. There is a great gift shop in Richmond VA. It’s called Tweed. They do an amazing job of engraving the Yeti’s if you still want them. If not, Swig drinkware is also headquarted here. Woman owned! I bet they would design one for you.

  2. With Doge’s cuts to USAID, and to all the non-profits and NGOs, and with ActBlue on the run, that we would be seeing fewer paid trolls on this site. I guess Elon hasn’t cut deeply enough.

  3. Maybe they just really hated George Cukor’s film version of “The Women” (1939)?

  4. Want to know how stupid Trump is? After imposing 25% tariffs on automotive imports (American cars and Trucks are also imported from Mexico and Canada), he warned automakers not to raise prices because of the tariffs. They have to, as many parts are manufactured abroad.

He’s trying to force manufacturers to eat the cost of tariffs. That’s gonna go well with wall St.

    1. George says: Want to know how stupid Trump is?

George: Want to know how stupid you are going wildly off-topic with your usual BBBBBUUUUTTTTT…. MUH TRUMP!!!! post?

Easy; you have no credibility here and the only effect of your posts is they deliver you sexual self-gratification.

Now, how stupid is that? Just a different form of Toobin it, in public for sexual self-gratification.

      1. George is a paid commie troll. He is here all day every day pumping out stupid made up shit. He is exceedingly shallow, dull, predictable, and utterly worthless. His garbage is not worth the time to read.

    2. George claims that Trump told auto companies not to raise prices because of the tariffs.

      This is clearly false.
Trump would never say anything like that.

As we all know, and as Trump has explained, the tariffs are paid by the government of the countries that send their products to the US.

Therefore, there would be no possible reason for the auto importers to raise prices, because they clearly do not pay the tariffs.

      1. “ As we all know, and as Trump has explained, the tariffs are paid by the government of the countries that send their products to the US”

We pay the tariffs dipshit. U.S. Companies pay the tariffs. Tariffs are just import taxes. Learn how tariffs work.

        1. Do you understand sarcasm ?????

Trump has NEVER admitted that tariffs are paid by US importers. He has ALWAYS insisted that tariffs are paid by the foreign governments.

So now Trump is being completely disingenuous, and indirectly admits that he is lying about who pays tariffs. He knows perfectly well that tariffs are a tax on the US importers and consumers, and you MAGAts know this as well, but you still refuse to call out your orange cult leader on this lie.

          You know he is lying.
You know he is trying to have it both ways.
But, still you swallow his nonsense hook, line and sinker like faithful cult members.

          1. Did you cry when Biden imposed 25% tariffs on Chinese steel and aluminum last year?
            https://bidenwhitehouse.archives.gov/briefing-room/speeches-remarks/2024/05/14/remarks-by-president-biden-remarks-by-president-biden-on-his-actions-to-protect-american-workers-and-businesses-from-chinas-unfair-trade-practices/

I remember in the early ’00s the Chinese had created so much excess steel and aluminum capacity that they flooded the US market with steel at prices below their cost to manufacture it. It decimated the U.S. steel industry.
Tens of thousands of unionized American steel workers lost their jobs.

Did you bawl when Biden put tariffs on Chinese made EV batteries last year, or no? Did you sob when Canada slapped 100% tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles?
            https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/china-electric-vehicles-tariff-trade-canada-1.7338087

I’m guessing you shed no tears when liberals like Biden and Trudeau imposed tariffs. That’ s because the people who tell you what to think didn’t care. They want you to hate anything and everything Trump. And so you do.

            https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2016/09/trump-makes-his-case-in-pittsburgh/501335/

You do not understand – ranting that Trump lied because YOU took him litterally but not seriously
means nothing to his supporters who take him seriously but not literally.

Cults tend to be filled with people who take things literally.
That would be those of you on the left.

Trump’s supporters know that Tarriffs will have negative and positive effects.

    3. George
DJIA is up over the past 14 days.

Ficating on daily swings is stupid unless you are a day trader, and then you need far better analytical skills than you have.

Market forces – supply and demand drive whether automakers “eat” tarriff costs.

Demand is down. Raising prices will lower it further.

Regardless the impact of tarrifs are far more complex that you are capable of analysing.

With near certainty the short term impacts will be negative.
In fact that is part of the point. They will be negative int he US and negative in Canada.
If as is certain they will be MORE negative in canada this will end uickly and Canada will Give Trump what he wants.

We have seen the tarriffs postponed several times so far. That may occur again.
If Trump is postponing them without getting anywhere in negotiations – then he is weak and either the Tarrifs will not happen or The impact will be worse on the US – which is highly unlikely.

I doubt we will see long term tarriffs

But if we do – that will reduce trade accross the border and drive production in the US.
      Again What Trump wants.

We are seeing massive foreign investment in the US.
      Many factors drive that.
The demographics in China, Japan, South Korea, most of Europe mean that those nations will not be able to produce as much over the long run.
Companies moving production is a response to a declining labor pool. They must either automate or move.
The US is the strongest economy in the world – despite the damage Biden caused.
The economic policies of the rest of the developed world have been worse than the US for far longer.
Western Europe is deindustrializing. Its labor pool is shrinking, its tax burdens too high, its energy and transportation costs too high, and its markets are not growing.
Taiwan is moving production to the US – because they are too small and can not grow enough, and because of the threat from china. Even a short conflict with china, would devastate the production of 50% of the worlds semiconductors.

And finally – the mere threat of Tarriffs is enough to drive companies to relocate to the US.

I would note that moving production to markets is happening all over the world. With the US as the major beneficiary.
South Korea, Japan, Europe are moving auto manufactuing for the US market to the US.
Just as Tesla moved production of EVs for China (and Europe) to China.
Tarriffs are a factor but so are shorter and cheaper supply chains.

You rant about the production of autoparts in Canada driving US car prices up.
But autoparts are made in Canada because labor costs are lower. Canada has no other competitive advantage with the US for any industrial production.
Nothing precludes the production of those parts in the US. While it would take time for the production of autoparts to return to the US, there is significant dormant production capacity in the Rust belt.

There is a reason the rust belt is turning red – democrats absolutely abandoned blue collar labor in the US.

The above is only PART of the impact of tarriffs.

I would further note that MOST of the beneficial shifts to the US will happen regardless of Tarriffs – just slower.

Further in the LONG run the reindustrialization of the US will drive MORE not less immigration.

Right now the US has a surplus of blue collar labor, but that surplus is NOT large, as blue collar wages rise due to rising demand, the hostility of Blue collar workers to immigrants will decline and we will see a rise in immigration.

But another major leg of Trump’s economics – is that we will be bringing in the Immigrants that we want.

Oddly that is likely to include large numbers from Venezeuala. Pre-Chavez Venezeula was the richest country in south america.
It produced Cars and Tires and other manufactured products. Many Venezuelan immigrants to the US – outside of the Tda criminals are working class and medium skilled – compared to hatians and mid eastern immigrants.

Regardless, my point is that again your analysis is shallow and short term.

    4. “Want to know how . . .”

You can make the substantive point without the chronic insults and smears. Then maybe better people would join the conversation. That assumes, of course, that your motive is intellectual discourse.

    5. What he is doing is strongly encouraging manufacturers to return manufacturing to the US. Then, no tariffs needed. American jobs (at all levels from professional to skilled to unskilled) also return with those companies.

      1. “. . . strongly encouraging manufacturers . . .”

Those tariffs are not “encouraging.” They are legalized extortion.

        1. Sam, we all object to taxes of any kind.

If tariffs are legal extortion, do you believe the same for income taxes and all other taxes?

How would you raise funds to support government agencies per the strict interpretation of the Constitution?

          1. “If . . .”

            Yes. No. Maybe.

Whatever the answer, it’s irrelevant to the validity of my point.

            1. Sam, your reply is where reality separates from dreams. The intellectual discourse you discussed above is hindered by unrealizable dreams.

    6. “We applaud the Trump administration for stepping up to end the free trade disaster that has devastated working class communities for decades,” UAW President Shawn Fain said. “Ending the race to the bottom in the auto industry starts with fixing our broken trade deals, and the Trump administration has made history with today’s actions.”

Fain said automakers should return union jobs to the U.S.

“These tariffs are a major step in the right direction for autoworkers and blue-collar communities across the country, and it is now on the automakers, from the Big Three to Volkswagen and beyond, to bring back good union jobs to the U.S,” he said.

The White House expects the auto tariffs to generate $100 billion in federal revenue. Trump said he hopes to eventually bring in $600 billion to $1 trillion in tariff revenue in the next year or two. Trump also said the tariffs would lead to a manufacturing boom in the U.S., with auto companies building new plants, expanding existing plants and adding jobs.

  5. Conservatives appreciate Yeti declaring their business is not wanted.

Those consumers will then look for a brand that either serves everyone, or find a conservative brand.

  6. The Dem party lost in 2024 because it was insane – and it will not be restored to sanity any time soon:

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/democratic-party-insiders-dismayed-dnc-155143083.html

    Brief excerpt:

Democratic Party insiders, advisors and consultants revealed serious anxieties about their party’s future after MSNBC anchors hosted a DNC chair forum that devolved into chaos in February. The forum, which was held at Georgetown University, featured questions from Democrats about identity politics and transgender rights in debates that some strategists argued were not keeping in touch with regular voters. “I don’t know if Dems realize how f—ed they are right now as a brand,” a Democratic strategist told Politico. “It was a bunch of people politely discussing how many deck chairs on the Titanic should be reserved for transgender people,” said another.
