Capping Carbon Admissions: The Biden Administration is Accused of Burying Conflicting Climate Change Report

There is a major story developing on Capitol Hill after House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman James Comer, R-Ky, revealed that a long-withheld report from the Biden Administration directly contradicted the claims of climate change used to limit increased U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports. The suggestion is that this was an knowing effort to cap carbon admissions rather than carbon emissions.

The impact that new U.S. LNG exports have on the environment and the economy was reviewed by U.S. Energy Department scientists and completed by September 2023. It appears that neither President Biden nor Secretary Jennifer Granholm liked the science or the conclusions. Rather than “follow the science,” they buried the report while allegedly making claims directly refuted by their own experts.

The report was finished while Biden was still running for reelection and would have likely enraged environmentalists. The draft study, “Energy, Economic, and Environmental Assessment of U.S. LNG Exports,” found that, under all modeled scenarios, an increase in U.S. LNG exports and natural gas production would not change global or U.S. greenhouse gas emissions. It further found that it would not increase energy prices for consumers.

Biden and Granholm reportedly buried the report and then announced a pause on all new U.S. LNG export terminals in January 2024, citing the danger to environmental and economic impacts.

Comer’s office told Fox News Digital that DOE repeatedly declined to provide this study to the House Oversight Committee or comply with other requests for information.

What is most concerning is that our LNG exports help reduce the dependence on Russia and would have decreased the revenues to that country to support its war in Ukraine. However, critics charge that Biden ignored the national security and economic benefits. Supporters note that we still exported a massive amount of LNG.

When the U.S. ramped up exports to Europe, progressive Democrats like Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., went ballistic. This appears to have worked in shelving the study while slowing demands for further increases.

The Biden Administration later released data in December 2024 suggesting that a rise in exports could cause consumer prices to rise by as much as 30%.

There are obviously two sides to this debate. The problem is that it seems that only one side was allowed to be publicly presented by the delay in the release of the study.

  1. And you think the leadership joke ends here with this revelation? Look who is joining the board of California’s constantly embroiled Edison International (EIX):
    https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/former-us-energy-secretary-granholm-joins-edison-international-socal-edison-2025-02-20/

What does that say about a company that puts political hacks (as in those that squash reports for political gain or are brought on for their name/political affiliation) like Granholm at EIX, Niklki Halely and Caroline Kennedy at Boeing, etc.? And you wonder why Boeing’s planes crash, the door plugs fall off, the fuel tanks are filled with trash and their space vehicles fail? Or why EIX can’t manage fire risks?

Arguably, this is worse for the hiring companies than DEI. At least there you are taking a more-or-less random shot at the honesty, diligence, and competence of your hire. These political hack hires all have a documented history of dishonesty and incompetence….

  2. Further evidence that the federal government cannot be trusted with our well-being. Politics trumps everything. Why would anyone want to place our health under their control?

  3. MAGA exports the energy desperately needed to repair US roads, bridges, modernize airports, build factories and most of all lower prices for Americans who are choosing between paying the rent or utility bill, and struggling to pay for gas to get to their gig work. Voters are too stressed to notice that energy is only a Wall St. commodity for the highest bidder, and a tool for foreign political interventions.

    1. “I was extremely disappointed to see what was done. In fact, last night I was reading the original report on LNG prepared by the Department of Energy in 2023 that clearly showed it was in America’s interest to grow our LNG exports, and it wouldn’t impact domestic prices and, in fact, it would lower greenhouse emissions,”

    2. Biden policies raised energy prices, experts say
“From January 2021 when Team Biden-Harris walked through the door, Americans saw energy prices skyrocket,” Mandy Gunasekara, the former Environmental Protection Agency chief of staff, testified at the hearing. “Home heating oil increased 36%, electricity increased 32%, and natural gas increased 25%. As a result, one in six American families have been behind on their electricity bills, and the cost for an average household rose approximately $10,000, significantly straining family budgets…”

    3. Experts warn House Energy Committee that closing fossil fuel plants drives grid reliability crisis
“A panel of witnesses representing the nation’s grid operators testified at a subcommittee hearing of the House Energy and Commerce Committee on Tuesday that the U.S. electricity supply is facing a reliability crisis. The primary reason for this problem, the experts said, is the rapid retirement of reliable generators powered by fossil fuels. As electricity demand increases in the coming years, they warned, this problem could get worse.”

  4. Yet additional confirmation that the Slug at 1600 and its incompetent apparatchiks constituted the worst America-hating executive administration in the history of the Republic.

  5. Sadly, there is nothing new here. H L Mencken was talking about this sort of stuff nearly 100 years ago –

“The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary.”
― H.L. Mencken, In Defense of Women

“What chiefly distinguishes the daily press is its incurable fear of ideas, its constant effort to evade the discussion of fundamentals by translating all issues into a few elemental fears, its incessant reduction of all reflection to mere emotion.”

On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

The urge to save humanity is almost always a false front for the urge to rule.

A newspaper is a device for making the ignorant more ignorant and the crazy crazier.

It is not materialism that is the chief curse of the world, as pastors teach, but idealism. Men get into trouble by taking their visions and hallucinations too seriously.

The worst government is often the most moral. One composed of cynics is often very tolerant and humane. But when fanatics are on top there is no limit to oppression.

(I heartily recommend “A Mencken Chrestomathy” You can find used copies cheap.)

    1. Mencken also said: “Democracy is the theory that the common man knows what he wants, and deserves to get it good and hard.”

    2. “H L Mencken was talking about this sort of stuff nearly 100 years ago…”

Sadly, history also shows that the outrage of any randomly selected segment of the American public at the press for its incessant lies and propaganda is consistently based, not on analysis of who most neglects to report the objective truth, but on who least well mirrors the existing biases of that segment. This appears to very much remain the case.

  6. Let’s just overfund hubris-addled, idelogically-motivated scientists to make big, new, expensive, biased, inaccurate computer models based on oversimplified, unverified assumptions and selectively buggered data so they can tell us the future. Once that has been accomplished everyone will agree on the proper course of action. I am confident that science will fix everything.

BTW, why are so many scientific papers written describing results that cannot be duplicated? Is it because the scientific method is a hindrance to career plans?

    1. There are many elements at work here:

      1. The general view that we face an anthropogenic existential climate crisis appears to be wrong, or at least “unsettled” as Steven Koonin put it;

      2. This particular study showed that LNG exports would have neither adverse climate nor price impacts; yet

      3. Republican congressmen in states that benefit from IRA subsidies now oppose ending them.

The “climate crisis” is a means of simply directing government spending to favoured interests, nothing more. The costs of doing this are huge and the benefits nonexistent. It is a massive misallocation of government and national economic resources.

      1. Daniel: “The “climate crisis” is a means of simply directing government spending to favoured interests, nothing more”

Thanks to DOGE we are learning that a lot of government programs operate like that. Turns out that the relatives and friends of judges are in on the scam as well. Willy Sutton looks like a model citizen compared to politicians and judges.

    2. “why are so many scientific papers written describing results that cannot be duplicated? Is it because the scientific method is a hindrance to career plans?”

Apparently so, judging by this report:
Three-fourths of polled American scientists say they are considering leaving U.S.

The MSM evidently views this as a tragedy in the making. My reaction is “good riddance to bad rubbish”.

  7. Actually naming the specific people responsible is only useful if you are going to haul out the guillotine so as to make people shorter or you use a stone wall for target practice. Otherwise they just get a slap on the wrist (if that) and are then free to return to their unlawful ways. Better to just remove the program or institution that gives them cover of their lawlessness.
An alternative might be for every elected official (as well as appointed) to have all their finances and trades placed on a leader board like Golf so you can check them each day. All checks and money transfers also. I would say it should be a on a big board right outside the Senate, House , and White House.
And also in front of every courthouse, every federal agency and such. Imagine the tips we might all benefit from although it might diminish the aesthetics of the Washington Scene.
Oh, all family members and their NGO’s should also be listed, up to and including 2nd degree relatives. I mean they all want the spotlight so let’s give them the SPOTLIGHT!

    1. “An alternative might be for every elected official (as well as appointed) to have all their finances and trades placed on a leader board like Golf so you can check them each day. All checks and money transfers also. I would say it should be a on a big board right outside the Senate, House , and White House.”

This suggestion has already been implemented in Florida. It is mandated that mayors and other elected officials file annual reports detailing their net worth, incomes, assets and liabilities. Many elected officials resigned, and one reason was that they could become targeted individuals.

I am undecided about that type of legislation, for in my town, neither my wife nor I ran for any position requiring such a disclosure. I see the positives and recognize the negatives, so I prefer a better way. You may know of an improved method.

      1. S.Meyer-Thanks for the update. Not sure I know a better way at this point but there are some innovative minds out there. I never ran for an elective office. My profession simply did not allow the time. I did Jury duty even though i could most always get excused if I wanted to. Did have corporate offices that I ran and they already knew all my finances. There is the risk for being targeted but in that case I would just insist on using my lifetime concealed carry every where I went. In my state you can have the lifetime license.

        1. GEB, thanks for your input. I wan’t just talking about being a target for violence, but it makes one a target for many other things.

I think doctors used to have closed meetings to censure another physician. I think some state laws made the meetings open so the public could have some idea of what took place. What happened to them? I think in some places doctors refused to be part of any censuring. Who better than fellow doctors to censure a doctor and improve his behavior. Sometimes too much transparency is harmful.

          Bastiat prevails.

  8. That makes no sense at all. Why would anyone want to destroy the place they live? The left thinks they are IMPROVING the West, they are just stupid and naive idealists who refuse to look facts in the face when things they’ve started go sideways….things like how mandatory DEI training INCREASES interracial hostilities in a workplace.

  9. Democrats obfuscating???? Tell me it isn’t so – I’m shocked, I tell you, SHOCKED!

  10. “Bad decisions are the consequence of deceitful infowarfare. Biden did it, and now Trump is doing the same thing.” …

And why is it that this reciprocity of truth only seems to matter AFTER the far left gets exposed? This is the middle-school mentality & reality the leaders and apparently many of their supporters embody.

How about you embrace accountability first? And just to clarify, I mean by calling out the individuals involved with the agenda driven deceit? From Lois Lerner to Anthony Fauci, to this DOE Secretary… there needs to be personal accountability & repercussions. A public acknowledgment of “both sides do it” is not adequate.

Just like the “follow the science” on COVID…

    1. I’m all in for holding government officials who are lying accountable. I’ve been arguing in these blog comments since JT started the site that government officials DO NOT HAVE 1ST Amendment rights to dupe the public, and that remedies must be extremely fast-acting to deter that temptation. I’ve suggested civil lawsuits be filed immediately when something like the Hunter Biden laptop cover-up is launched to tilt an election — acting swiftly enough (days) to make sure that effort to tilt the election through falsehoods DOESN’T SUCCEED.

I don’t care who in power is doing the lying. It’s us, the public, that they disrespect then attempting to “opinion shape” us. This nation was founded on the principle “the consent of the governed” — that principle is completely undermined when that consent is obtained through trickery and deceit — censorship and false narratives.

      Accountability?….yes, firm and without delay.

      1. “Accountability?….yes, firm and without delay.”

Begin by drastically curtailing, or entirely eliminating, the legal doctrine of qualified immunity for public officials.

    2. I agree with you about accountability (and I wish Ms. Bondi was more proactive about that) but please provide examples if what you have designated as Trump’s infowarfare other than his willingness to speak the truth most do not want to hear. I find that there is a big difference between deception of the facts and just elucidating the facts that have been buried.

  11. We desperately need a sunshine law stating that both the majority and minority party in both houses are entitled to any information held by any agency of the executive branch and that it must be delivered in an expedited manner. If some information is classified, the original, unredacted version must be given to the majority and minority leader of the house requesting the information. Neither life nor Congress can exist in a vacuum

    1. I agree, this redacted-for-classified material should be open to all of us – We the People are the boss and why there should be anything redacted in something like the ancient Kennedy assassination files is difficult to understand. Just who decides who gets to see info? Do we have a behind-the-scenes actual ruler of this nation that we are not aware of/ Open the books, sunlight is the best disinfectant (as those screeching about DOGE are learning).

      1. I agree, this redacted-for-classified material should be open to all of us

Again, to then be repeatedly “leaked” to the Soviet Democrat-Marxist Mainstream Media Propaganda Complex, as repeatedly happened during Trump’s first presidency?

Certainly, we should make the ChiCom and Putin operatives jobs much easier; just give all that material to them as well as us!

The way to deal with issues like this isn’t to happily commit suicide in the name of open books and sunlight.

        1. I’m sure THEY already have it, it is just we, the common citizen, who are kept in the dark about so much that is not that secret – such as the redacted info on the Kennedy assassination. Sure, keep the launch codes and any new secret weapons secured but there is far too much hiding of info that is hidden for “non-security” issues that could undermine careers or businesses who may be doing untoward things but that yield profits to some in a variety of ways.

    2. If some information is classified, the original, unredacted version must be given to the majority and minority leader of the house requesting the information.

To then be repeatedly “leaked” to the Soviet Democrat-Marxist Mainstream Media Propaganda Complex, as repeatedly happened during Trump’s first presidency?

There may have been similar occurrences of “leaks” when unredacted information/intelligence was given while Obama and then Biden – but I don’t remember that happening at the moment?

Your trust in the Democrats in the Legislative Branch isn’t even laudable.

  12. The increased use of natural gas (replacing coal) is one of the biggest contributors to the US decline in CO2 emissions. Natural gas and nuclear energy sources are the two most promising sources of energy that can reduce CO2. The climate activists are against both. Go figure.

    1. clearly no one really believes “the left” was every serious about carbon, emissions, or even heat by death existential threats. those were just used to create hysteria…to manufacture a crisis, then ride on the back of the fear mongering so that

NO ONE WOULD SEEM TO NOTICE WHEN THEY SPENT TRILLIONS< NOT A SINGLE KILOWATT OF NEW ENERGY WAS ACTUALLY PRODUCED!!!

      where DID the money go?

that is the question….and the answer is quite clear?

it was a boondoggle, a racket, a money thrift, laundering and skimming operation. they filled the pockets of those who were clever enough to form these pointless shell companies who did "research". but noting of any significance was every achieved. there was never a purpose to actually develop anything. they created a crisis out of thin air, constantly issued black flag warnings about the end of the world as we know it, and then STOLE TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS and lined their pockets.

it is not a hard crime to figure out. it was televised..in broad day light.

what are we prepared to do about it?

that is the trillion dollar question.

    2. The “climate activists” are mere tools of forces that use the idea around the nature of energy as a means of profit/power. These indoctrinated ignoramuses are not aware of any data that conflicts with the cult of tree-hugging/climate disaster. They will show up anywhere they are needed and scream to the wind but they are sure that they are crusaders for a just cult members, much like the jihadis who flew planes into towers.

  13. How determined are we to see that the current Administration does not use its power over information to favor certain pre-conceived narratives? Because, they will be tempted by their power in the same way.

It’s already happening. We’re making serious blunders in appeasing the Kremlin, and this is done by essentially parroting Kremlin talking points, rather than giving voice to pro-Ukrainian-independence assessments. For example, the Russian civilian economy is in free fall, with massive layoffs and company bankruptcies, raging inflation, labor shortages, 30% interest rates. The people in Russia no longer support Putin’s folly. This viewpoint, while expressed privately in NatSec circles, is censored by Trump and his WH aides.

Bad decisions are the consequence of deceitful infowarfare. Biden did it, and now Trump is doing the same thing.
We won’t make it stop by only pointing out Biden’s misuse of information.

    1. Bad decisions are the consequence of deceitful infowarfare. Biden did it, and now Trump is doing the same thing.

Just two months in, and we’re now assured that there’s a moral equivalency here! In nine weeks, we are now at the point that Trump is doing “deceitful infowarfare”, EXACTLY the same as Biden! (and of course, the unmentioned eight years of Obama).

Who knew! I thought most of Trump’s administration were just getting settled in to their offices, onboarding staff, and figuring out where the bathrooms were. Oh… and dealing with District Court judges telling them they have to get the judiciary to approve what they attempt to do.

Turns out they’ve been spending their time planning and carrying out Deceitful Infoware!

  14. The only green coming out of all this climate change scam is the green lining the pockets of corrupt politicians pushing it.

    1. The physics and chemistry of the atmosphere is going to do what it’s going to do — it doesn’t care what opinions people hold onto.

But you have to listen carefully to NOAA scientists, and NOT reframe or repackage what they are saying for political purposes.

Greenhouse gasses (H20, CO2 and methane) trap a degree of heat from being radiated back out into space at night. Water vapor has an obvious effect as a blanket to anyone who lives in a desert climate. While it’s effect is much less than H20, methane traps heat, and still lesser than methane, CO2. These effects are measurable, and have been known about since the late 1800s.

Satellites equipped with infrared cameras can literally see clouds at night — they look dark because they attenuate the IR heat radiated off the Earth’s surface. Areas of concentrated CO2, e.g., a plume from a power station smokestack can also be seen as darker. The physics is obvious to anyone who cares to study these images (which can be studied for free online).

Of course, trees and photoplankton eat CO2 from the atmosphere, but not that quantity is only about 1/2 needed to offset the current level of fuels burning. If smokestacks and tailpipes were scrubbed for CO2 capture, things could be brought back into balance, and the CO2 concentration brought down from 420ppm down to a pre-industrial 275ppm. Yes, Canada and Russia oppose that policy, because they benefit from temperature increases.

The thing in question — scientists don’t know enough to answer — is WHEN will a tipping point be reached if we continue dumping excess greenhouse gasses — meaning a point where we can no longer make corrections.

There are many creative approaches to managing greenhouse gasses, and buying time before hitting a tipping point.
These are being pursued. Modular nuclear is one, carbon exhaust capture is another. Both have the potential to work.

What just pure escapism (irresponsible denial) is to call global warming a hoax. It’s for stupid people looking for simple answers to complex problems.

      1. Anonymous 9:01AM- Your points are well presented but you have decided that just preindustrial is the best balance point but is it? With our high Co2 levels we are having a significant increase in the greening of the planet, also noted from space. This, of course means more vegetation and greater capacity to, as you say, eat the Co2. We have had periods with higher Co2 levels and much less deserts in the past. So optimal levels of Co2 and temperature are in the eye of the beholder. I think use of Nuclear energy makes the most sense and scrubbing the Co2 from use of fossil fuels is reasonable but I suspect there may be more technologies that will help carbon capture in the future. We need clearly open discussion and open access to all data and opinions.
What we don’t need is a lawless political party that hides the truth and uses “science” as a means to club their political opponents, cause hysteria, block discussion and enrich themselves and develope a permanent, elite class of technocrats, to rule the unwashed “ignorant and uneducated masses”.

      2. (things could be brought back into balance) What hubris to think that the animal known as man could manipulate a planetary climate that has oscillated from hot to cold thousands of times in this planet’s history. In fact, if you study the long term trends, we are due to be heading back to another glacial maximum and should more than welcome the greenhouse gases that may ameliorate that coming catastrophe. But, heck, there is no money or political power to be gotten by just observing the world as it evolves time and time again. We are just riding on this planet and if some of our emissions effect climate, so do volcanos even more but then we cannot make money on volcanos.

  15. A report with that title has a publication date of December, 2024. It was “Prepared by” a firm in VA, with “support” from firms in MA, WV, and WA. A bi-coastal effort.

It’s weird how sometimes government and government contractors can leak classified info to create preferred narratives to WaPoo and NYT, and other times government and its contractors can maintain a conspiracy to keep non-classified info secret – even from the legislative branch that funds the research.

  16. The attacks on Tesla is all the proof you need that climate change was never about climate change.

      1. 🤔 can u engineer a bridge, a Tesla, a rocket to the moon, a nuclear power plant? About that stupid…

    1. Do you realize you’re saying that Elon Musk was the world’s biggest con artist when he started Tesla? (actually 2 guys with no money of their own started it).

      1. “. . . with *no money of their own* started it).” (emphasis added)

Nice try. But that’s total BS. The two co-founders had just sold an e-book company for some $190 million.

      1. “Don’t forget that Secretary Jennifer Granholm is an idiot.”
A cunning idiot. I may have made a typo in the adjective…

  17. The Biden Administration was run by Activist Groups with figure heads in charge. They discounted any reports, studies etc. not only on Carbon but many other areas that disagreed with their beliefs. The heads of the Cabinets, some, were more interested in their own Financials than hands on running the dept. This was brought out in House/Senate meetings where they constantly asked about stock trades of the heads of the cabinets. Then is the end as they walked out, they awarded groups/NGO’s. companies Grants, then these same people showed up now working at these companies, NGO’s etc. Simply the Green NEW SCAM so called DEI. Doge has discovered a lot of money was pushed out to very questionable groups which were recently formed, some simply had a PO Box or $100 in their account before being awarded billions all in the name of Carbon/Green New Scam

    1. Diogenes, very succinct. Toppling regimes through revolution comes in many colors. The CIA mastered the art of destabilizing governments around the world through agencies like USAID, by funding insane NGO initiatives. That tradecraft has been turned inward spawning civil unrest in our country. Occupy Wallstreet, Black Lives Matter, mass illegal immigration (open borders), Hamas support, Defund the Police, Trans Movement, anti-Voter ID, TDS, COVID policies, anti-DOGE, WOKE, anti-free speech, are all initiatives with marginal national support. The key element to this tradecraft gaining traction is through the control of the media outlets. Ultimately, the best tell on whether unrest is organic or tradecraft orchestrated, is it’s defiance of reason and logic and is it amplified by the state-run media.
