Triggered by Teslas? The Left Rationalizes Political Violence as the Fault of the Right

Natasha Cohen, 46, is a New York therapist who appears to be stuck in the denial stage of Kübler-Ross. After she was arrested in the latest case of political violence by the left, Cohen blamed Elon Musk for her actions, saying that she is “living in terror every day.” The rationalization is becoming a familiar refrain as the rise in political violence becomes undeniable. On Friday, New York Times Chief White House Correspondent and MSNBC Political Analyst Peter Baker came under fire for admitting that leftist violence is on the rise, but noting that Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric “might excite people to take action.”

Cohen was caught on videotape (above) leaving a brick with a swastika and the word “Nazi” on a Tesla and dumping trash on the car.

The therapist, who works with children, immediately reverted to one of her clients and blamed others for her actions. This was all Elon’s fault:

“Every time I see those cars, I see Elon Musk saluting the country as a Nazi…I made a mistake because I’m basically living in terror every day that the country is turning into Nazi Germany. I’m truly terrified, because Elon was unelected and they’re deporting migrants without a trial.”

In other words, she is a victim who felt compelled to terrorize neighbors. She is now facing hate crime charges.

In the meantime, a Florida woman joined the ranks of those attacking Teslas with a novel twist. Yamaris Marrero, 45, of Hallandale Beach, Florida, used a “large wad” of chewing gum to cause nearly $3,000 in damage to the EV’s door handle mechanism, police said, according to a local report. She was also charged with a hate crime.

Baker’s comment seemed to follow a series of rationalizations for leftist violence. On PBS’s “Washington Week,” Baker stated:

“On the physical violence part, and that has also been seen on both sides too, of course. President Trump was the target of two different assassination attempts last year. Just this last week, I think the would-be assassin of Brett Kavanaugh was sentenced, I think, in court, Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) a number of years ago. But it does seem, at times, that Trump and his people seem to be more willing to use words like traitor and treasonous that might excite people to take action. And I think that’s the worry, what level of responsibility you have as a president, as a leader of this country, to try to tamp down the kind of passions that arise rather than stoke them.”

Of course, President Joe Biden was notorious for describing Trump and his supporters as enemies of democracy while Democratic leaders have called them “fascists” and “Nazis.” That does not appear relevant to covering the rise in leftist political violence.

Politicians and commentators have sought to excuse or explain the growing violence. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., explained to Joy Reid on MSNBC why Luigi Mangione allegedly murdered UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Warren offered a “warning ” that “you can only push people so far.”

Others like former Washington Post reporter Taylor Lorenz gushed over Mangione as homicidal but hunky: “Here’s this man who’s a revolutionary, who’s famous, who’s handsome, who’s young, who’s smart, he’s a person who seems like he’s this morally good man, which is hard to find.”

The point is that the people are being “triggered” by others holding opposing political views. It is a victimology that has been drilled into many on the left. They are merely reacting to “living in terror” after losing a democratic election.

We seem to be moving into a type of frenzied delusion on the left. It is reminiscent of the scene from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood where the cult member screams “George isn’t blind! You’re the blind one!”

  3. Jonathan: DJT is one desperate guy over his illegal deportation of Abrego Garcia to that concentration camp in El Salvador. So desperate that DJT has resorted to intentional lies, distortions and fabrications to try to justify his actions.

    It started yesterday in the Oval Office when DJT claimed “We won that case [the SC Obrego Garcia ruling] 9 to nothing in the Supreme Court”. FACT CHECK: False. The SC unanimously ruled DJT must “facilitate” the return of Obrego Garcia.

    Then, in a bizarre post DJT went on Truth Social with a photo of himself holding a photo of a man’s hand, presumably that of AG, showing tattoos. The caption to DJT’s post read: “This is the hand of a man that the Democrats feel should be brought back to the United States, because he is such a fine & and innocent person…even though he’s got MS-13 tattooed on his knuckles, and two Highly Respected Courts found he was a member of MS-13, beat his wife, etc.”.

    FACT CHECK: False. No court has found that AG was or is a member of MS-13. In addition. if you look carefully at the photo DJT is holding of AG’s hand it shows an image of a cannabis leaf on the forefinger, that of a smiley face on the middle finger, a cross on the ring finger and a skull on the little finger. Above the tattoos are the letters/number “MS-13”. But those letter/numbers are darker in color than the tattoos themselves–which indicates they were added to the photo. How do we know? Because Pres. Bukele’s own media account shows a photo of Sen. Van Hollen meeting AG in the hotel. A close up of AG’s left hand shows clearly the Tattoos. But some thing is missing. The designations “MS-13”! Need any further proof DJT’s photo was a fabrication? Go to Getty Images of MS-13 member tattoos. They are huge and hard to miss–on their backs and chests and on their faces. If AG were really a member of MS-13 he would have that designation all over his body. And he doesn’t.

    When DJT resorts to lies and intentionally distorts a photo you know he is running scared! DJT is his own worst enemy. Obrego Garcia’s lawyers will undoubtedly be using DJT lies and fabrication of evidence to show his continued defiance of court orders!

    1. Wow for a fact checker it would be helpful if you quoted facts. The Scotus said the govt had to facilitate his release from prison. No his return to the US. Read. Also, the immigration Judge who ordered the deportation of Abbrego Garcia concluded there was enough evidence to believe he was a member of MS13 and ordered he be deported.

      1. As a federal judge once said in a case I was involved in–how do you prove a negative? WHERE is the proof tha Garcia is a criminal? He has NO criminal record. The so-called evidence phony AG Blondie cites is information from an informant to a now-disgraced Maryland police officer. From USA Today:

        Court records show Mendez ultimately pled guilty to the misconduct charge in 2022 and received one year of probation. Mendez did not return messages seeking comment.”

        As Dennis points out, if you look carefully at the tattoos upon which they are relying, they do not match known gang affiliation tattoos. THIS is why they don’t want to try Garcia–there’s no evidence that he has done anything criminal. And, I’ll say it again–the Rules of Professional Conduct for Prosecuting Attorneys REQUIRES them to “do justice”–not try to do everything possible to secure a conviction; or, in this case, defend the ego of a narcissistic sociopath who can never admit he is wrong. The SCOTUS has defined “justice” as notice and an opportunity to be heard in Court. If Garcia gets his day in court, the Trump regime will likely come away with egg on their face–another failure; another disgrace. I’ll bet anything they’re trying to gin up some lie to cover themselves as I write this.

The Senator said that those glasses just materialized and were placed on the table in front of them, and they were not ordered nor even tasted.           WHY would Bukele deliberately create the false impression that Garcia and Van Hollan were sipping Margaritas at a luxury hotel, followed by a smart ass comment that mocked the Judges who ordered Garcia’s return—- other than at Trump’s direction? At minimum, Trump inspired this fabrication and blatant disrespect for our courts.

          Bukele is an idiot— in less than 2 years’ time, the way Trump is screwing up, Democrats will likely win back the House and Senate and one of the first things they will do is cut off the money for the Salvadoran prison.

To my personal recollection the onset of globalism goes back to Ronald Reagan and him dropping “of the United States” from speeches concerning “We the People.” His tax cuts of 1981 and 1986 certainly helped enable the ‘rise of the rich’ in the US. Not just Republicans, in 1999 then President Bill Clinton and a very bipartisan 85% of the 106th Congress enabled the engineered collapse of the economy in 2008 with the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999, repealing Sections 20 and 32 of the Glass-Steagall Banking Act of 1933 which helped protect us from another “Great Depression” for some sixty-five years. Then we have George W. Bush’s elective wars in Iraq and Afghanistan following the guerrilla soldier attacks on the home bases of America’s money, power and war mongers (never just a “terrorist attack”) of ‘9/11’ with at least three officially unheeded prior warnings since 1973 (e.g., oil embargo) and there is Obama’s “ACA” which does nothing to address the underlying causes of multiple epidemics of FDA illegally (FFDCA) instigated chronic physical and mental diseases since the late 1960s, with the phony “Covid-19 pandemic” as the icing on the cake of bipartisan treason.

    More specifically, several years ago I wrote Senator Elizabeth Warren of my personal senior lay findings of FDA approved food poisoning fueling multiple epidemics of chronic diseases and some monstrous acts of irrational violence (e.g., mass/school shootings) while she was on some healthcare committee. All she did was forward my letter to Senator Tammy Baldwin in my current state of Wisconsin who vowed in writing to try to improve “Obamacare.”

    Very specifically, we now have two and a half generations of young (compared to me) American adults who’ve been ingesting toxic brain damaging, mind altering FDA approved food additives (e.g., soy [late 1960s], TBHQ [1972] and MSG [1980], minimally) all of their young lives, many of them who’s parents ingested them first. For me it all suggests these two questions to JT: 1) how can any young American adult be held fully responsible for any bad acts after two and a half generations of ignorantly, innocently ingesting brain damaging, mind altering FDA approved food poisoning and 2) aren’t all of the attorneys and public officials I’ve written to on these matters obligated as “officers of the court” to investigate them and inform the courts of their findings? Without getting “very specific,” the Jonathan Turley blog is hardly more than a popular political gossip column; Res ipsa loquitur.
