Oh Canada: Teslas Banned from the International Car Show

If you go to the Vancouver International Auto Show, you can see all the new models. However, if you want to see a Tesla, you must go down the road to check out a car without a political litmus test. The organizers are just the latest group to join the mob retaliating against Elon Musk for working with the Trump Administration to remove waste and fraud in government through his DOGE program. What was most striking was the pathetic rationalization of the organization for engaging in political retaliation.

According to the Canadian Auto Dealer, the organizers claimed a common rationalization for political discrimination: security. As we have seen on college campuses for years, where conservative speakers are barred due to security concerns, the Canadians claimed that they could not protect innocent parties if a single Tesla was allowed on the floor. Furthermore, they blamed Tesla, insisting the company was given “multiple opportunities to voluntarily withdraw.”

In other words, we only cancelled Musk when he refused to cancel himself.

Tesla already had a booth set up and had to take it down.

So, the solution to extremists is to give them precisely what they demand.

After all, some on the left are committing political violence and claiming that they were triggered by the mere appearance of Teslas or other symbols. This week, another person wearing a MAGA hat was assaulted. The woman was triggered by the hat on the head of a 72-year-old man so she attacked him.

The Canadians appear willing collaborators in this retaliation. Rather than simply posting proper security, they banished the victim of the political violence. By blaming it on Tesla, they can throw up their hands and say “we tried” but Tesla was unreasonable.

It is the same rationalization heard from those arrested for political violence.

For example, Natasha Cohen, 46, a New York therapist, was arrested for vandalizing Teslas and explained that she is “living in terror every day.” It is a familiar refrain as the rise in political violence becomes undeniable. On Friday, New York Times Chief White House Correspondent and MSNBC Political Analyst Peter Baker came under fire for admitting that leftist violence is on the rise, but noting that Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric “might excite people to take action.”

Cohen explained that it is all Elon’s fault:

“Every time I see those cars, I see Elon Musk saluting the country as a Nazi…I made a mistake because I’m basically living in terror every day that the country is turning into Nazi Germany. I’m truly terrified, because Elon was unelected and they’re deporting migrants without a trial.”

However, people like Cohen are now safe from being triggered at the Vancouver International Auto Show. The organizers are only banning those who refuse to ban themselves.

  1. Elon says “Canada is not a real country,” and we are supposed to have sympathy for his company, when the not real country hosts an auto-show?

Elon is from to say stupid things, but he should not be free from the ramifications for staying stupid things.

Running a car show is a business. It is entirely up to the business to determine what to include will drive profits. What a non-story, on a day in which the Trump administration yet again trounced on the First Amendment by retaliating against Harvard with another illegal action.

    1. It’s funny how Turley ignored the fact the Canadian auto show gave Elon a choice. To volunarily choose not attend. Meaning, they politely told Elon you’re not invited. Naturally Elon throws a fit and the Canadians get straight to the point. Tesla is not welcome at the show. Bummer.

Elon is entirely responsible for damaging the brand.

People wouldn’t have the kinds of reactions if it wasn’t for Elon’s own stupid decisions and actions that actually harmed people’s livelyhoods.

We should remember that it wasn’t too long ago that Republicans hated Tesla because they associated the cars with the environmental movement. Turley didn’t whine and moan about conservatives vandalizing cars because of they were EV’s. Republicans sought to get rid of subsidies for EV’s because it they represnted the anti-fossil fuel industry. Now, it’s the reverse. Republicans are in total support of Ev’s because Elon is their darlin government slasher.

Turley’s piece is nothing more than lip service portraying Elon as some sort of victim. Boo hoo. Elon is no victim. He’s a moron who though he would be popular for what he did and all he did was expose his incompetence as a “special government employee”. He should have stuck to building rockets. It’s the only thing he’s good at. Oh and paying women to have his babies. That’s a creepy thing people seem to keep ignoring. Perhaps because he’s the richest man in the world and that gives him “latitude” to be as creepy as he wants.

      1. WOW george you really are dump
Just a few months ago Libs galore loved the Tesla’s.

But now with ZERO proof Musk is a Nazi You forks have lost all common sense.

        1. Dustoff,
They are still clinging to the supposed “Musk made a Nazi salute!” nonsense. Even the ADL looked at the video and said, “That is not a Nazi salute.” Only a dupe would interpret it like that.

  2. At this point it has become abundantly clear that Turley has completely abandoned all pretense of writing about “legal” matters.

It is also abundantly clear that he is simply auditioning for some role in the Trump administration.

This piece is nothing more than bell ringing to activate the mindless MAGA mob, just like Pavlov’s dogs.
    And it works.
    It always does.

The mindless, brainwashed MAGA cult all come running with their usual and oft repeated stupid comments.
The MAGA mob are activated to produce their usual tirade of semi-literate, irrelevant insults and “analysis”.
Of course it is the same old comments from the same old group of people, day after day after day after day. Nothing changes.

The comments are always the same regardless of the actual subject matter of Turley’s piece.
And then they all congratulate each other on their “well said” comments.

    Just like Pavlov’s dogs.
Turley rings the bell, and gets the same slobbering response every day.

    1. And it really does display how little Turley thinks of his readers – how little respect he has for them. Otherwise, he could offer a critical analysis of the event and the legal ramifications. For example, he is a staunch advocate on free speech and capitalism, and while this occurred in Canada, he could still make a commentary on how the organization choosing NOT to invite Tesla is an example of the organization’s freedom of expression and capitalistic practices. Instead he chooses to paint Musk as a “victim of political violence” simply for trying to eliminate “waste and fraud.” This claim is so fallacious that even Steve Bannon has openly asked that is Musk has found so much fraud, why doesn’t he go before congress to provide the details – actual lists and numbers. Turley, of course, knows all of this but refuses to offer this to his readers – because he doesn’t respect them.

    2. Yes, I don’t see any laws have been broken. Boycott Musk because he thinks waste and fraud are non-productive principles held by conservatives.

  3. More and more, those on the political left remind me of an abusive spouse who loudly proclaims in earnest,…

“LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO!”

      1. Indeed! Do freedom of expression and capitalism mean nothing? They should be FORCED to invite whomever the billionaires tell them to invite!

        1. Are you talking Canada?
          freedom of expression and capitalism
They have what rights? Few to any. Most of all since Covid.

          1. Ha – CANADA?!?! Let’s call them what they REALLY are! The 51st state! Am I right?!?! When Trump takes them over then he can force ALL the car shows to invite Elon. WE MUST PROTECT ELON!

  4. The stronger and wilder the protestations from the Left become the more I’m convinced that Trump’s DOGE was a wise move to slow America’s rush to national insolvency and also to put the kibosh on a host of idiotic programs and expenditures that do little to nothing to promote the common good of our nation.

  5. My standard comment: Professor. Thanks for the great work (for many years). I tremendously admire and appreciate you. You describe left-wing fascism every day. They will not like you better, treat you better or be fairer to everyone if you call them fascists or not. Please call fascists “fascist.” It’s important for people to see someone like you use the word.

  6. #. The Manchurian Candidate affect when people have been trained to react to inanimate objects. The effect is to terrorize by burning, looting or killing. Tesla products or Maga hats mean attack. They have become attack dogs. How were they trained, by whom, where and when and for what purpose? Representative McIvers is triggered by illegals and attacks sites.

Manchurian Candidate Disorder (MCD) led to an attack at a facility. Luckily no injuries reported. Yes, it’s an illness.

  7. I’m not an attorney but wouldn’t it be a good time for Musk to bring a lawsuit against the Canadian Auto Dealers Association for political and/or some other type of discrimination? Fifty billion US dollars in damages sounds like a good starting point to me!

  8. I’m not a fan of cancel culture and boycotts, but the Left politicizes everything, so what choice do we have but to hammer Bud Light and Target? The Left had gone from boycotts to embargoes as they deliberately made media and retail outlets totally unpalatable to the rest of us. You had to drink the Kool-Aid, or your money wasn’t good enough even for ESPN.

On two occasions, I was treated rudely by Canadians because they suspected I was conservative. I didn’t even say anything. They never laid an eye on me. They just assumed it and acted accordingly.

Most of my liberal relatives won’t speak to me because they assume (correctly) that I voted for Trump. This in spite of my self-censoring to keep the peace (I know, I know; self-censoring was pointless and cowardly; I get it now because my liberal relatives proved your point).

It’s been weird and getting weirder. I’ve given up. The Left is just sick.

      1. Great advice. Don’t discuss sex, politics, or religion with strangers and especially in matters of business.

  9. __And now we have to worry about the rise in Chinese illegals/operatives slipping through our Canadian Northern border, as well as Chinese-sourced illegal drugs……

(AS reports show, the stupendous rise in illegal Chinese entries escalated in the last two years of the Biden administration.)

Clowns to the south of us, jokers to the north, here we are, stuck in the middle with
    [??? SCOTUS ???]
[??? The new Pope Leo (the Judge Dugan of our religious) -who is safe behind Vatican walls tight and secure these days, but wants to make known/publicize his criticism of U.S. immigration policy….???]
    [Congress…?]

    1. Your link does not say that…. If you actually look at the numbers linked by the link YOU provided (click on “increased over 1,000 percent”):

      https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/stats/nationwide-encounters

      2022: 6,698 Chinese nationals.
      2023: 11,195
      2024: 12,414

To use the tool, filter by Northern Land Border, Chinese citizenship.

      That is not a 1000% increase…

Yet again, FAKE NEWS. With this administration, you must check your sources, whenever the data is not provided in a summary.

      1. I regret that you misstated and misread what I said. I did NOT say that my two citations were linked to my commentary. I included them for comprehensive review. But for your edification, please simply do a search similar to “Increase in Chinese immigration” etc, and you should find plenty of sites. Thanks anyway.
        https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/30k-chinese-nationals-entered-us-illegally-since-october-raising-national-security-fears-sources/ar-BB1mZMmN
        https://www.cbsnews.com/news/chinese-migrants-fastest-growing-group-us-mexico-border-60-minutes-transcript/

        1. So you didn’t read what you linked to?!

You linked to an erroneous claim of 1000% increase in migration from Chinese nationals over the Northern border. before you waste our time with this fake news, please vet it first. You do a disservice to those on this blog who care about the truth.

And what’s more, your link THIS TIME refers to the entire number of Chinese nationals entering the country. And it claims that the “majority” entered through the San Diego border, which – if you are geographically ignorant – is not the Northern border.

More deception. and fake news. There is no material immigration problem stemming from our northern border.

          1. ^^^I think this is Gigi trying to pick a fight. She “links” something that Lin did not link, then screws up by saying “To use the tool, filter by Northern Land Border, Chinese citizenship. That is not a 1000% increase…”
            WTH is Gigi talking about?

          1. No, Lin said: “(AS reports show, the stupendous rise in illegal Chinese entries escalated in the last two years of the Biden administration.)”

Lin linked to a website claiming a 1000% increase, with a link to numbers that do not even show a 100% increase.

            FAKE NEWS yet again.

            1. listen CLOWN, I just looked at her link (don’t see where you come up with the 1000 increase, but I assume you are referring to the DHS link called “Starting Stats,” which says this: “Since the start of FY2021, 64,174 Chinese nationals were apprehended illegally crossing the Southwest border. For comparison, only 5,651 were apprehended from FY17-FY20.”
Now Clown, let me help you. here is a link to a percentage increase calculator.
              https://www.calculatorsoup.com/calculators/algebra/percentage-increase-calculator.php
Enter 5651 as starting value, and 64174 in final value. Tell me what you get, clown.

I don’t even see where “Lin” mentions this (“1000%) at all, whether or not she read it. But if she did, I guess youi’re the clown and she was right.

        1. Yes, showing that the Trump administration’s claim of a 1000% increase (which Lin directly linked to) was blatantly untrue. Not even a 100% increase. Nothing notable at all in those numbers.

          1. doesn’t look like Lin ever said that or linked to that. Although the two links do show very high increase. Someone ^^^above corrected you and showed you the link showing MORE than a 1000 percent increase.

  10. I love when those dedicated to the principles of free speech and capitalism get big mad because an entity expresses their right to invite / disinvite anyone they want by disinviting someone they don’t want.

    1. I believe the criticism is not primarily that they’ve dis-invited Tesla, the problem is the REASON they say they’re canceling. By canceling because of a hypothesized threat of violence, they’re effectively giving in to the demands of terrorists. That kind of policy, if followed broadly, turns a country into Mexico, where the desires of the cartels have to be factored in to nearly all activity.

If the auto show is actually cancelling Tesla because they don’t like Musk, or his actions, they should state that in so many words, and take whatever heat, or praise such action deserves, rather than hiding behind the ill-advised bowing to terrorists excuse.

      1. This is a fair criticism. But how do we know – no, how does Mr. Turley know, that the organizers of the show didn’t receive threats of protestation or other behavior that they really don’t want associated with their show? What if their insurers have said – “we cannot cover the risk associated with having them there – they have become too much of a firebrand.” Mr. Turley seems to think the ONLY acceptable outcome would be for them to let Tesla be there regardless of the risk / cost. That the organizers acted in bad faith – no other possible explanation. I think that’s a disingenuous argument.

  11. Trump is completely wrong on tarriff-taxes on American consumers. Trump has imposed the highest taxes on consumers in American history.

For example: Trump’s new tariff-tax on Americans buying iPhones. Apple is likely to simply invest in robotic-workers and not hire an additional human-worker. If Apple made a huge capital investment in robotic-workers, it would then likely downsize it’s human workforce – more Americans would lose jobs as a result of Trump’s doing Congress’ job of prescribing tariffs.

The greatest international threat to Americans is not foreign workers, it’s excessive-automation replacing human-workers. If human-workers (consumers) don’t have healthy paychecks it would collapse the international economy.

The Great Depression in the 1930’s was primarily caused by consumers losing purchasing power (too few paychecks), the Smoot-Hawley tariff-taxes on American consumers, huge inequality between the rich and working class and lax regulation of banks and Wall Street.

If you watch Wall Street in 2025, huge huge huge investments are going into robotic-workforces replacing human paychecks worldwide. Robotic-workers don’t need lunch breaks, vacation, healthcare, benefits and work 24/7 365 days per year. OSHA doesn’t have to provide safety regulations on robotic-workers. Trump is actually making it worse by incentivizing automation with tariff-taxes on consumers.

    1. 9 out of 10 companies plan on re-shoring or on-shoring to America within the next four years. Some will be automated, but many will not. Then there will be all the secondary and third level businesses.
If you want to avoid tariff-taxes dont buy foreign made products. Pretty soon, you will be seeing a lot more “Made In America” products on the shelves at lower prices than similar imports.

      1. “9 out of 10 companies plan on re-shoring . . .”

Suppose that’s true. And that it’s due to Trump’s tariffs — which are a penalty, a fine, a tax for not doing what he wants.

When a neighborhood thug uses that strong-arm tactic, it’s called extortion. When a president does so, it’s nation-wide, legalized extortion.

And it contradicts a basic law of free market economics: the Law of Comparative Advantage.

        1. “When a neighborhood thug uses that strong-arm tactic, it’s called extortion. When a president does so, it’s nation-wide, legalized extortion.”

Tell that to George Washington and all the President’s that followed.

    2. “Apple is likely to simply invest in robotic-workers and not hire an additional human-worker. If Apple made a huge capital investment in robotic-workers, it would then likely downsize it’s human workforce – more Americans would lose jobs as a result of Trump’s doing Congress’ job of prescribing tariffs.”

Time passes, and the world changes whether or not that is your desire. You want to hold time back, but that is impossible. If you could accomplish that feat, you would be in the world of horse travel without automation, while the rest of the world would continue progressing. Is that what you are looking for?

  12. Jonathan: And we thought DJT could not top his brazen bribery scheme by accepting the Qatari 747. Well, he made history last night at his golf resort in Northern Virginia. DJT hosted the “crypto corruption gala”. Two hundred twenty “official winners” gathered to honor DJT who launched his crypto currency business just before taking office. Each dinner guest last night paid between $55,000 and $37.7 million for DJT’s crypto coins. For the top 25 DJT coin buyers they won the right to a personal reception with DJT. The total take by DJT last night was around $400 million! And this is not money going to DJT’s political campaigns or to his Super Pac. No, this is money going right into DJT’s pockets!

Now we don’t know who attended the gala last night because the WH refused to divulge the names of the attendees. But investigative reporting indicates most the attendees are foreign nationals. One attendee did openly bragged he was attending. It is Justin Sun, A Chinese national and crypto billionaire who put about $93 million into DJT’s crypto businesses. For years Sun refused to come to the US because he feared being arrested. He was under investigation by Biden’s DOJ for alleged criminal activity and the SEC sued Sun. Shortly after taking office DJT’s DOJ under Pam Bondi told the judge it wanted to “pause” the SEC lawsuit against Sun. How convenient!

DJT ran for the presidency the second time for two reasons. He wanted to avoid prison time and he wanted to make as much money as possible. So far, despite brazenly breaking every known law, DJT has been wildly successful on both scores!

    1. DJT is a businessman just as are many members of Congress and others in government. The nature of American government is that its members serve temporarily and then return to their citizen lives. At least, that was the intent of the Founders. You probably didn’t expect the Pelosis to give up their lucrative investment business. Why are you so “triggered” by DJT continuing his?

    2. COVID Vaccine “Safe and Effective” Narrative Collapses On Camera

BREAKING: The Biden administration KNEW about deadly heart risks from COVID shots and DELIBERATELY kept it from the public.

Sen. Ron Johnson just released subpoenaed records exposing a damning timeline of what officials knew and when.

Jonathan: And we thought DJT could not top his brazen bribery scheme by accepting the Qatari 747.
Are you still crying about this plane. If you watched the news that 747 was transferred to the DOD.

      Try to keep up

  13. Each day we read and experience the irrational behavior of the democrat left and their media organizations. Remember Fink “we have to force them” comment. Although they are in the minority they pose a great danger to freedom and our society. They will sit back make the snowballs for someone else to throw on their behalf and blame Trump for making it snow. There’s only one way to correct a child’s misbehavior and it’s not “time out”.

  14. We should establish an “Isle of Fear”, perhaps near Jeffrey Epstein’s Isle of Love, where people who live in constant fear of Elon Musk can be sent for continual therapy.

  15. Don’t forget that these aren’t grassroots protests opposing what DOGE is doing. It’s all the product of the same tactics, done by the same bad actors, that have been used around the world to undermine regimes the globalists determine need to be overthrown.

    1. And they pay the riff-raff just enough (tax free, of course) to keep them coming back time and again otherwise they’d be perpetually unemployed.

  16. Meanwhile 3 Yale professors, “experts in fascism”, left America to go to Canada due to it being more free.

It takes a lot of education to be so stupid.

  17. Before the 2024 election, Mark Halperin predicted that if Trump won we would see an outbreak of mental illness unlike anything in our history. He was correct.

  18. Great column. It seems the leadership of left resembles more and more, the behavior of a plane-load of boys stranded on a desert island as depicted in “Lord of the Flies,” by William Golding. Words such as arbitrary, and petty, both at a pre-pubescent level come to mind. This allegory implies the Democrats need to be saved more than find balance.
