San Diego State University Professor Celebrates Israeli Being Eaten by Shark

A San Diego State University professor is under fire this week after celebrating the death of a former Israeli soldier who was eaten by a shark. Chicano studies Professor Roberto Hernández joyfully reported the death and mocked the victim as others joined him in the macabre celebration.

The site College Fix reported that Professor Hernández shared an article on his personal Facebook page with the title “Former Israeli Soldier From the 8207 Battalion is Eaten by a Shark in Occupied Palestine.” Alongside the late-April post, he wrote, “Shark Oyate for the win!! #solidarity #FreePalestine.” Oyate is a term derived from the Dakota language, meaning “people” or “nation.”

Hernández then continued to mock the victim with others on the site. When someone asked if the shark was okay, Hernández responded by saying he “heard [the] shark contracted cancer.”When another said that they hoped the victim “was aware of what was happening” and that “it was tortuous [sic],” Hernández reacted by liking the comment. On his page, Hernández describes himself on Facebook as “an unapologetic anti-Zionist, AND a proud pro-Semite in that … [he supports] the Semitic Palestinian people and Semitic original Jewish peoples of Palestine.”He has held high-ranking positions at SDSU, including chairing the University Senate’s 2024-25 DEI committee as well as the search committee for the College of Arts and Letters provost search. He was also a member of the SDSU Press editorial board.

Comments on his original post were divided, with some people agreeing with him, and others calling it “despicable behavior,” especially for a professor.

Violent commentary by liberal faculty is not uncommon in higher education.

We have previously discussed professors advocating “detonating white people,” denouncing policecalling for Republicans to suffer,  strangling police officerscelebrating the death of conservativescalling for the killing of Trump supporters, supporting the murder of conservative protesters, supporting for the attempted assassination of President Trump, and other outrageous statements. One professor who declared that there is “nothing wrong” with such acts of violence as killing conservatives was actually promoted.

Postings on social media outside of school are generally protected from liability. However, that has not stopped schools from targeting conservatives who say inappropriate or controversial things on social media. Conservative North Carolina professor Dr. Mike Adams faced calls for termination for years with investigations and cancel campaigns. He repeatedly had to go to court to defend his right to continue to teach. He was then again targeted after an inflammatory tweet. He was done. Under pressure from the university, he agreed to resign with a settlement. Four years ago this month, Adams went home just days before his final day as a professor. He then committed suicide.

Political commentary on social media is generally protected speech. However, this latest controversy shows how, while purging most faculties of conservatives and libertarians, universities are hiring far-left and radical academics to teach in higher education. They, like Hernández, are given major positions in the institution and then replicate their extreme and intolerant views. Keep in mind that these individuals rarely come to universities as clandestine radicals. Faculty members hire them in full knowledge (and with full support) of their extreme views.

The discussion between Hernández and many of these commentators shows how rage gives a license to many to abandon the most fundamental notions of civility and humanity. These same individuals view themselves as great humanitarians as they strip any humanity from those they hate. They celebrate the painful deaths of those with opposing views with a righteous rage that is addictive and contagious.

Professor Hernández, like so many of his colleagues, is teaching a chilling lesson by example to his students in how to hate without hesitation or reflection. For its part, SDSU will express fleeting concern and then continue the same hiring practices that have turned higher education into a far-left academic echo chamber.

  1. Johnathon has pointed out his debate with a Harvard professor who said that his university does not need to reflect the makeup of our whole population. Does that not make an empty suit out the liberal mantra “inclusive”? That’s putting bigger tail fins and more chrome on an Edsel.

      1. “Edsel was a cool car”
Everyone is welcome to their own opinions. To me, Edsels were just funked up Fords…

      2. When l was growing up the Edsel was described as an Oldsmobil sucking a lemon.

  2. There is a quick and efficient cure for such despicable conduct….rendered with a tightly clenched fist square upon the offending person’s snot locker. If good people started reacting in that manner to those who utter such tripe we would see a rapid change of course by those who trash the very notion of free speech. As the Left tells us….there is a limit to free speech. Time we reminded them of what one of those limits is and how it shall be implemented. Of course I am speaking hypothetically of course….right?

    1. We all have seen the left has no issue when it comes to harming others. Can you say BLM & Antifa.

    2. “There is a quick and efficient cure for such despicable conduct….rendered with a tightly clenched fist square upon the offending person’s snot locker.”

There are any number of prominent people, mainly on the left, who would gratify me by terminating their existence, although my expression of gratitude would probably be confined to “good riddance”. Does that violate your alleged “limitations on free speech”? Do you think it gives you (or anyone else) the right to physically assault me? If so, be forewarned that I firmly believe in the right to defend myself against physical violence by the most effective means available, and that I do have those means.

  3. Virtue-signalling (showing tribal affiliation by dehumanizing the “other”) in front of an internet audience is one of the most repugnant phenomena brought forth by social media. It heralds the end of fruitful conversation to resolve conflict, which is the lifeblood of a healthy democracy. It’s much more serious a problem than splitting hairs over “free speech”. Out the window are moderation and trust, replaced by hate, paranoia and civil breakdown. Thanks, Zuck.

  4. Jonathan: So today it’s about San Diego State professor Roberto Hernandez who expressed no sympathy for an Israeli soldier who apparently died after a shark attack in Gaza. You claim the professor’s posts exhibit an abandonment of “the most fundamental notions of civility and humanity”.

What about showing the same “notions of civility and humanity” when it comes to the Palestinians? 56,000 Gazans have been killed by the IDF–mostly innocent women and children. These figures do not include those who have died from disease or malnutrition due to Israel’s bombardment of refugee camps and their refusal to allow in humanitarian aid. On May 25 Israel bombed another shelter and killed 19 innocent Palestinians, including 2 Red Cross workers. The same day the IDF bombed the home of a Gaza journalist who was killed along with several family members.

Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. Where is your “civility and humanity” when it comes to the Gazans–who are being killed almost every day by Israel’s bombs, not by shark attacks!?

    1. #9. Israel is continuing to defend itself after continued terrorist attacks from Gaza. If Gaza doesn’t want to be attacked, then Gaza should stop poking the bear. Pretty simple really. Yesterday at least, there were USA, USA, chants in Gaza, along with an American flag or two. It is Hamas which has conducted genocide not only against Israelis but against their own citizens of Gaza, who as of yesterday at least, decided they didn’t want Hamas around any longer. Today who knows?

Seems your on the wrong side there DM, as usual…

    2. Israel has been patient for too long, giving these Gazans a chance to choose peaceful coexistence. Practically, that would require mothers and fathers to stop indoctrinating their children to grow up hating Jews and wanting to kill them or drive them out of the Middle East. If you are an Arab Israeli, you enjoy living in a nation with individual rights. If you are an Arab in the West Bank or Gaza, you are considered human shields to protect the fanatical overloads who rule by violence and intimidation. You are fodder for death statistics in their infowarfare.

I know it is a cruel thought, but what is the point of allowing yet another generation of kids to be raised hating their neighbors, and being indoctrinated to kill as many as possible?

The Israelis have been patient. They have given peace a chance for 77 years. And what it it get them?

      1. The really bad part. We are funding these young kids into thinking terror is OK thru USAID…

    3. Dennis McIntyre, you should announce your immediate departure to the Gaza strip where they take guys like you and throw them off of five story buildings. You might survive if you land on all the kids in the hospital who were used as human shields. While you’re on top of the hospital building you could admire the rockets being prepared by Hamas to be fired into the heart of Tel Aviv. The last thing you will hear is fly Dennis McIntyre fly.

    4. “Who expressed no sympathy….” when in reality he was celebrating the man’s demise. Dennis, you aren’t as smart as you think you are or pretend to be.

      1. HullBobby,
Thank you for pointing out the fact of the situation for Dennis. Dennis is clearly not very bright.

    5. How many Germans died in the Dresden bombing? If one brings war upon another, one must be prepared for a reaction and not whine about.

    6. Why, Dennis? Because everyone knows the solution is give back the hostages and never attack Israel again nor the USA. The aggressor must be stopped, the taliban, isis, hezbollah, hamas, and every other bloodthirsty group. You cheered 911? I’ll bet you did.

    7. Hey dennis. I asked you hours ago. Where did you get these numbers.
As usual, do don’t respond. Because you lied.

      As usual!

  5. We are the land of freedom of speech and I hope we’re able to preserve that. Chicano studies give me a break. College students are graduating and can’t find employment, here’s the reason why. Right now this guy should be walking down the road talking to himself if all things were equal. With his interest in fish I’m sure there’s a position on some fishing boat scaling fish.

  6. Overt antisemitism online is also on the rise. Its content is eerily similar to the Nazi propaganda I learned about as a teenager, being replete with once-fringe conspiracy theories and full of outright lies.

  7. To be a Chicano is to inherit generations of resistance, defiance, resilience and dignity
    By ROBERTO D. HERNÁNDEZ

Chicana and Chicano are not ethnic identities as they are often misunderstood to be. They are instead chosen political identities: affirmations rooted in social movements of the 1960s and 1970s, and grounded in a reclamation of the rights, values, languages, knowledge and lands of the Indigenous peoples throughout the continent.

    https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/2020/12/31/to-be-a-chicano-is-to-inherit-generations-of-resistance-defiance-resilience-and-dignity/

Translation: Roberto is all about giving in to his appetites. A quick glance at his online photos, shows he clearly has a BMI >40. Earning, per his UCSD profile, a Chicana/o Studies Honors BA (with an emphasis in Political Theory), as well as Masters and PhD in Comparative Ethnic Studies (Black, Native and Chicana/o Studies) from the University of California, Berkeley, shows he is more colonized by Western diet and habits than he admits.

College and graduate school are hard enough given the insane amounts of assigned reading materials, writing papers, exams, oral presentations, and competing against other intelligent, driven students…in the physical sciences. A BA, MA or PhD in “ethnic studies” invites brain atrophy, sluggard thinking and the devil’s handiwork: self-righteous rage

He wouldnt have lasted a half a day with the Aztecs. The Aztecs were the most violent and merciless indigenous group of Central America, where other indigenous groups like the Mayans, feared them

    1. Estovir.

I have a good laugh for you. In the 1980’s San Diego State U Had to tone down it’s Aztec warrior, because it made the people of Mexico look bad. Even the SDSU sports teams had to make the great warrior look nice… Leave it to the libs to make kill–ers look nice.

    2. *. Thanks Estovir, for doing everyone’s homework!

Why does he see Gazans as the victims?

      1. *. BTW as Spain once sold land to the US it appears the US also sells land back. The goods and foods are from China and Mexico. Americans were sold out.

It’ll take a while to sink in.

    3. *. Chicano studies is new. The scholarship just isn’t there. Mr. Hernandez is documenting the culture of a Mexican American subgroup that otherwise wouldn’t exist.

They are the graffiti artists that vandalize train cars, buildings and cement areas until it became necessary to give it recognition of something other than eyesores. It’s gone worldwide now. Got spray can, will travel.

The idea here is colonials and hate. Mr. Hernandez is saying colonials should be killed and celebrations held after. He’s dangerous to human life.

Quite serious and no, Mr. Hernandez, Israel as a nation existed in antiquity. Yes, they are a part of the warp and weft of the United States and protected by law as each American citizen is.

RIP to the unnamed Jewish man Mr. Hernandez celebrated.

  8. Do we truly want the likes of this radical, slightly insane, and morally bankrupt person as a US citizen?

We should look with alarm the number of unstable, unethical and warped people that are the human detritus of progressive indoctrination.

In actuality, these ideological fanatics are a far more lethal threat to America than the illegals. Our police will eventually capture the illegal criminals and the Illlegals just coming here to work are, basically, not much of a threat; but the growing mass of brainwashed prog/left human flotsam pose a much bigger danger in their volatile, and many times, lethal acts.

Our biggesr threat is 40+% of our own citizens.

  9. there is NO ONE more hate filled, greedy, lying, Hypocrite than a Democrat
We need to STOP their funding!
End Federal Aid to colleges/students, cities, states, non-profits.

    Defund their FASCISM!

  10. I feel tremendous sympathy for conservative Jews. To watch this happening and then witness liberal-American Jews (at least 60%) cheer and give donations to the antisemites must be galling.

What is most concerning is that 49% of all American voters also voted for the party of loud antisemites. They voted for the party of judicial obstructionism. We’re two percentage points from Hell on Earth with nowhere else to go.

    1. As the wife of an orthodox Rav, I continually question my husband as to the reason for reform Jews. He says that they are “ethnically Jews” by DNA but they do not follow the Torah so they are not spiritual Jews and are apostate to the faith but their ideology (mostly socialist) gets in the way of their faith.

  11. Bigots with poor taste needs jobs too! And San Diego State University is there to help with that situation.

However, such a response by a “Chicano studies Professor” does make one wonder if we are not just dealing with a more histrionic form of a Claudine Gay or Francesca Gino who attempts to deflect attention from their job performance via inflammatory agitprop.

    1. Oh look it sone of those with no “notion of civility and humanity”. You’re no different than that prof .

      1. So, you are then admitting that the “prof’ is a bigot with poor taste! And, you attempt to deflect from his performance by accusing others of doing the same when they expose his childish actions? I am sure the “prof” thanks you for shooting yourself in the foot to defend him.

      1. I don’t know why we listen to a dope who has been wrong on every issue. Hamas (the dummy trusts terrorists who continuously lie) says 54,000. Who killed them? Most were terrorists, and the rest supported terrorism, though not firing guns at the time were women and children being used as shields by Hamas terrorists, shot by Hamas for not following orders or killed when an errant Hamas missile fired toward Israel landed in a populated area.

Tomorrow, most of us will advance learning more, but the dummy will remain stupid for the rest of his life.

        1. Meyer

          So true.
I agree with Prez Trump. Removed all these people from Gaza and send them to Iran. (which we know, they will start trouble there)
Turn that area into a much better place.

          1. Dustoff, I agree with you, but the Palestinian people residing in Gaza are mostly Egyptian, Jordanian and North African, so we should send them there instead of to Iran. There is no ethnic group known as Palestinians, and before the KGB entered the picture when someone referred to the Palestinians, they were talking about the Jewish farmers. The antisemites are the most ignorant people I have come across.

            1. S. Meyer,
              Good points.
I am not a fan of antisemites, but I would not celebrate their demise in a shark attack. At most, I would note the poetic justice or sense of karma.

            2. Meyers

I do agree, but they have been in these areas before and they were kicked out because of the trouble they caused. Many were killed as they tried to over throw the governments. It’s no wonder that no Arab country will take them.

Hey what about China…. They have plenty of open land. LOL

              1. The Red and Green alliance hates Israel because the Israeli people defend their women and children along with free societies. We don’t hear this alliance complaining about the terrible treatment of the Uyghur population in China or the atrocities in the Arab world and Africa.

            3. S.Meyer

              Great comment !!!!
              Makes perfect sense !!!!

As you say, there is no ETHNIC group known as Palestinians, so send them back to their real ETHNIC origins.

I would offer the following, with which you will undoubtedly agree.

There is no ETHNIC group known as Americans, so send them back to their REAL ETHNIC origins.

ETHNIC Jews, such as yourself and Stephen Miller, should be sent back to Israel.
ETHNIC Irish, such as Turley and RFK Jr. should be sent back to Ireland.
ETHNIC Germans, such as Trump, should be sent back to Germany.
ETHNIC Slovenians, such as Melania Trump and Paul Gosar, should be sent back to Slovenia.
ETHNIC Afrikaners, such as Musk, should be sent back to South Africa.
ETHNIC Italians, such as Ron DeSantis and Pam Bondi should be sent back to Italy.
ETHNIC Cubans, such as Marco Rubio and Rafael Cruz should be sent back to Cuba.
ETHNIC Norwegians, such as Kristi Noem and Pete Hegseth should be sent back to Norway.
ETHNIC Samoans, such as Tulsi Gabbard, should be sent back to Samoa.
ETHNIC Welsh, such as Linda McMahon should be sent back to Wales.
ETHNIC French, such as Scott Bessent, should be sent back to France.
ETHNIC Dutch, such as Doug Burgum, should be sent back to the Netherlands.
ETHNIC Scots, such as Lindsey Graham, should be sent back to Scotland.
ETHNIC Czechs, such as Elise Stefanik, should be sent back to the Czech Republic
ETHNIC Lebanese, such as Darrell Issa, should be sent back to Lebanon

And of course every black person in America should be sent back to Africa.

Makes perfect sense by your logic.

              Don’t you agree ???????

              1. If you weren’t so stupid, you might actually follow the logic. You’ve got a few points buried in that mess you call a brain, but you can’t seem to pull them out without wrapping them in filth.

Send Jews “back”? Sure—send them to Judea and Samaria. That’s where they’re from. But at least you accept the fact that these places represent the Jewish homeland.

Do you want to send Gazans “back”? Most of them would be headed to Egypt, Jordan, or parts of Africa.
The problem is they’ve chosen terrorism, murder, rape, and destruction against Israelis and even their own. That’s not resistance; it’s crime. Most of them belong behind bars.

And while you’re throwing around words like “ethnic,” take a moment to realize the groups you named do have real ethnic roots except one. There is no Palestinian ethnicity.

One last question: are you in between binges?

                1. S. Meyer

Unfortunately you do not really understand the meaning of the term Palestinian.
The entity we now know as Palestine was created in the early 20th century by the British colonial forces who drove out the Ottomans from the Levant.
The name Palestine was an artificial label attached to an area occupied by the British.
Previous to this occupation the Arabic people who lived there had no real sense of an existence as a nation. They were essentially tribal groups of Arabs who had lived in the area for centuries.
Although they did not have a sense of existing as a nation in the traditional western meaning of that term, there is no denying that a specific group of Arabic people occupied that area for centuries. Before the British artificially imposed the entity of Palestine, the Arab population simply identified themselves by their tribal or clan affiliations or the towns from which they came.

Whatever name you attach to this Arabic group, there is no denying that they have existed there for centuries and that they represent a specific ethnic group.
Genetic studies have identified this group as descended from the ancient Canaanites found in the region during the Bronze Age.

Just because the British artificially imposed the label of “Palestine” to that area does not negate the ethnicity of the people there as you claim.
Technically speaking the term “Palestinian” does not define an ethnic group, but that is because it is an artificial label imposed by the west.
There is no doubt that the Arabic people, now artificially classified as Palestinians, represent an ethnic group that has occupied the area for many centuries.

Your fatuous and facile interpretation of the term Palestinian simply reflects your racial prejudices and hatred for a group of people you do not understand, and are not willing to understand.

The fact that you resort to slinging childish personal insults does not speak well of your intelligence or intellect.

                  1. “The name Palestine was an artificial label attached to an area occupied by the British.”

You are demonstrating your ignorance. The name Palestine likely comes from the Romans in their attempt to change the name. I hope you realize how old the name is and that Roman control over the Levant preceded British control and the British mandate.

” They were essentially tribal groups of Arabs who had lived in the area for centuries.”

The area was sparsely populated. The Jewish development of the land created employment opportunities and an influx of Arabs. Many Muslim Arabs live in Israel and are in the Knesset and on the Supreme Court. Many fight in the IDF. Israel is a truly multi-cultural and multi-ethnic society. Compare it to all the other nations in the area that are mostly dictatorships, with one dominant group frequently enslaving the rest.
“Just because the British artificially imposed the label of “Palestine” to that area does not negate the ethnicity of the people there as you claim.”

Palestine is a region that has nothing to do with one’s ethnicity. Look at the newspapers when they were talking about Palestinians early in the 20th century and likely during your childhood. The Palestinians were the Jews. It’s documented and easy to find.

“There is no doubt that the Arabic people, now artificially classified as Palestinians, represent an ethnic group that has occupied the area for many centuries.”

Look at the history of the migratory flow into the area.

“The fact that you resort to slinging childish personal insults does not speak well of your intelligence or intellect.”

If you weren’t such a jerk, there would be no need to inform you of your obvious and severe shortcomings.

                    1. S. Meyer

The label Palestine has always been a label attached to the area by outsiders.
The Romans did indeed rename Judea as Palestine.
This was the motivation for the British to use the same name.

The Levant has always seen waves of civilizations passing through and dominating the region.
Judea was established by the Jews, but before the emergence of Judaism, and therefore the establishment of Judea, the area was dominated by the ancient Canaanites.
Genetic studies have linked the current Palestinian Arabs to the Canaanites. Thus their occupation predates Judea and the emergence of Judaism itself.
The Canaanites are considered to be the indigenous people of the Levant. Their civilization emerged from Stone Age peoples around 4500BC.
Judaism began to emerge around 2000BC, but at that time it was a religion of the Israelites which was significantly different from classical Judaism. For example the Israelites still practiced animal sacrifice. Classical Judaism did not emerge until around 1000BC, the era of the first temple.
The Jews occupied ancient Judea, but of course this ended with the diaspora.
                      The Jews lost their homeland.

However, the Jewish occupation of Judea was just one of the many transient civilizations that occupied the area. Their occupation of the region was predated by the Arabic people descended from the Canaanites, who again became the dominant civilization after the diaspora.
The Jews were simply a transient civilization in the region. The Arabic people dominated before the Jews and again after they left.
The Jewish claim to the area is no greater, and arguably less of a claim than the Arabs.

I really don’t understand your argument that the region was sparsely populated and that Arabs only moved to the area because of Jewish development.
The region is close to the Mediterranean and has a hospitable climate, unlike the actually sparsely populated desert regions further inland. The 1922 census, before the Jewish migration, revealed a population of 757,182, mostly Arabs, in Mandate Palestine. By 1946 there were 1,269,000 Arabs and 608,000 Jews, so the Arabs always dominated in this era.
The area was relatively densely populated by Arabs. Your argument that the Arabs only moved to the region because of Jewish development is false.
Your observation that modern Israel is multicultural does not change the historical reality of what actually happened in the region, and certainly does not diminish the Arab claim to the region.

Unfortunately your understanding of the history of the region is clouded by your prejudices.

                      Try to avoid the insults.
It really doesn’t add much to your credibility.

                    2. Based on your ignorant interpretation, mixing genetics, culture and everything else, one could say the Babylonians are the rightful heirs to the land. Can you now see how stupid you sound? Genetics alone may reveal the threads of ancestry, but they do not define nations, legal rights, or historical sovereignty.

The Jews have been a permanent fixture in the area for about 3,000 years, while a Palestinian ethnic group never existed. The Arabs had no permanent presence in the Lavant before the 7th century. Before then, Arab tribes were limited to the fringes of the desert and had no sovereign or cultural control over the land.

Now let the stupidity end while you critique my words sentence by sentence. You can’t, because all you do is mix up concepts using terms you don’t fully understand.

                    3. S. Meyer

The Jewish tradition developed from the Israelites who were one of the many cultures that evolved from the ancient Canaanites.
The Israelites were not Jews. The 12 Israelite tribes occupied the area of modern Israel and Lebanon.
The Jews originated from the Judah tribe, which was just one of the 12 tribes of the Israelites.
They split the Kingdom of Israel by forming the Kingdom of Judah in the south, while the other tribes maintained the Kingdom of Israel in the north. This occurred around 1000 BC. Thus the Jews occupied the area starting around 1000BC.
Around 600 BC, the Assyrians conquered the Kingdom of Israel and exiled the 10 remaining Israelite tribes.
This left the tribe of Judah in the southern Kingdom of Judah as the only remaining tribe of Israelites. They became the Jews.

The Israelites emerged from the ancient Canaanite peoples who are regarded as the indigenous people of the region that emerged from the Stone Age to form organized settlements.
However the Israelites were not the only culture to emerge from the Canaanites in this region.

The Canaanites gave rise to many semitic cultures that existed in the same region at the same time. Technically speaking there were no Arabs at the time, but there were cultural groups that later became Arabs as we now use the term. The Kingdom of Judah was a very diverse place with many different semitic cultures.

So the people who would become the Arabs were present at the same time as the Jews in the Kingdom of Judah and surrounding regions.
Genetic studies prove the link between the Canaanites and modern Arabs in Palestine.

You say that there was no Arab presence in the region before the 7th century CE.
You are confusing Arabic populations with the emergence of the Muslim religion.
The Muslim religion emerged in the 7th century in the Arab communities. However the Arabs were around long before they became Muslims.

You facetiously say that by my reasoning the Babylonians are the rightful heirs to the region.
                      You are being deliberately obtuse.
The Babylonians did conquer the Kingdom of Judah in 586 BC, but obviously the Jewish and Arabic claim to the region predates this by centuries.

There is ample evidence that Arabic cultures existed along side Jewish cultures in the Kingdom of Judah.
The Arabic claim to the region is just as strong as the Jewish claim.

For some reason you keep harping that there is no such thing as a Palestinian ethnic group, and that somehow this supports your claims.
I have already agreed with you that there is no Palestinian ethnic group. But that is entirely beside the point. There is no denying that the group of people we now know as Palestinians belong to an ethnic group of Arabs whose lineage can be traced back to the Canaanites who occupied the region in the neolithic period.

Your understanding of the history of the region is clouded by your prejudices.

                    4. Your understanding is so limited that every comment requires correction and explanation. I won’t do that unless you are willing to pay.

I will take one statement that defines your stupidity.

“The Jews originated from the Judah tribe, which was just one of the 12 tribes of the Israelites.”

The central theme of the Jews is the Torah (you can include the rest of the Bible as well). Abraham B.~1800 BCE –>Issac –>Jacob. Jacob had 12 sons. The Jews were enslaved and left Egypt. The Torah was given to Moses in 1313 BCE. The twelve tribes settled in the land of Israel. The Torah was central to all. The Torah was given today (Sivan 6). The Jews fought every civilization that tried to rule them and were exiled, but they never severed their connection or presence in the land.

Their presence always remained; that is partly why there are two Talmuds: the Babylonian Talmud and the Jerusalem Talmud. The Jews never completely left, and all other civilizations that tried to dominate the Jews have vanished while the Jews remain. The Arabs didn’t appear until the 7th century, except on the fringes, and had no influence. The Arabs come from Arabia. Numerous people lived in the Lavant, possibly as early as 1.5 million years ago, which makes your central theme somewhat flawed. The list starts with Homo Erectus.

    1. How many Germans and Japanese died in WWII? Don’t start wars with states that are stronger, have more resources and are more intelligent than your state.

Wars are bad, starting one with a stronger neighbor is suicidal.

        1. DUstoff, they have been brainwashed for their entire lives. That is why no arab state wants any of them in their country.

  12. Is this professor a professor of law?

If he is, he knows sharks don’t eat lawyers out of professional courtesy.

  13. What a mess. I went to UCSD in the 70’s. What happened to a once great college.
    I know the answer. Liberals.

  14. Only an evil excuse for a human being publicizes such a thought. He or she seeks the admiration of others of like mind, whether anti-Semites, racists, sexists, etc. In the ranks of higher “education” such despicable folks are easy to find.

  15. The anti semitism has always been there. It was there 30 years ago and 50 years ago. And it has reached across all strata of society. The KKK in the south hated blacks, Catholics and Jews. They were overt. The greater amount that I heard, though, were in homes or parties or meetings of some of the most liberal people in the community or in universities or hospitals where I practiced in different parts of the country. It just was not shouted out but was mentioned in muffled slurs, avoidance of some individuals and unofficial exclusion of others. Shouted or muffled it was sickening to hear.
Professor Hernandez should not be so gleeful. Maybe he should remember that death comes to us all with no exceptions and we rarely get to choose the venue. We like to think of dying at a great age in bed and surrounded by our loved ones. Death is not so accommodating. It’s messy, sudden, unexpected, and worst you are often alone and often surprised. If you have ever been ill or injured to the level of near imminent death then you will know that.
I have been there too often when death happens. I have never approached it with glee or joy.

    1. what???? The article is about the professor, not you.
you’re ole timey country wisdom is boring.

    2. *. Your comment, GEB, is thoughtful. Characterizing death as a surprise brings me back to a grim reality of life and no one knows the hour is sobering.

Mr. Hernandez has disgraced his tribe. Many pray for an end to the Gaza war and the repeat of the David and Goliath archetype. Yes, it will end as it always does. Mr. Hernandez soul is grievously ill.

The religion of atheism has shown itself and its principles. Everyone should be aware of it now. It is characterized by literally taking the ten principles of the Judeo-Christian and breaking them willfully by command, by allegiance.

By way of transparency I am not a lawyer nor a physician, nor a minister or priest. I am an observer and searcher of truth and meaning. I have observed and noted the real atheism in practice and formality of it and seek to inform.

There is a loss of free will on both sides and a blind adherence to ill or good. One destroys what is whole and good and the other builds what is whole and good.

I know who wins. It isn’t Jimmy swaggart nor Al Sharpton nor the misunderstood Darwin. Built into creation is evolution and at its fundamental level it’s known as healing. A cut heals and on the greatest scale of healing its resurrection and reincarnation (to recreate the body) from the greatest wound of death.

GEB, as a physician you know of healing. Thank you for your sobering comment.

    3. GEB
If you have ever been ill or injured to the level of near imminent death then you will know that.
      ***************
For myself, no. But like you. I’ve seen death and have watched others recover when you thought they would not.
The part that worries me the most. UCSD medical center is where I went for my medical education.
Once famed college has been tarnished.

    4. GEB,
      Well said.
Spend time in a ER/ED or a war zone and you can see all kinds of ugly.

  16. “Chicano Studies” – nothing after that is surprising.

Anyone with a “Studies” degree is a useless person that will contribute nothing to society.

    1. They started that mess in the 1980’s at San Diego State. Another fine college thrown into the trash.

  17. Just one question; Why was this antisemitism and calling for killing not heard of 30 years ago????? What changed in the United States?? I think I know the answer…..

    1. bcoft13

Do you remember the AIDs scare in the 1980’s? The gay & DNC went after Reagan because he couldn’t find a cure over night. If anyone talked about closing the bath houses where AIDS was spreading like crazy. They too were thrown the the wolves. The dems have not changed.

      1. Dustoff, how many millions died because the left and the Democrats prioritized sexual politics over public health and won the bathhouse fight during the AIDS crisis? They blocked closures, cried discrimination, and let ideology trump medicine, costing lives. That’s a death toll they never answer for.

The left never stops. We saw what was brewing in the 60’s and didn’t learn our lesson. We must learn that lesson today.

        1. Meyers

I was in the middle of this mess. At one point we had to wear gloves up to our elbows. Everyone was afraid of blood and a needle sticks.
          ER were a panic zones.
Common sense went right out the window.
Then Bill Clinton and his foolish HIPPA rules. That made it even worse.

          1. Dustoff, were you in the middle of this mess as a professional or other? It was tough times made worse by poor government performance and the lack of ‘seykhl’ of Democrats.

    2. What happened? Kipling– with loose lips— and without thee in awe.

Mr. Hernandez is a good study within sociology/psychology. I doubt he should be teaching on the otherhand.

  18. When describing contemporary academia, we — including the good Professor Turley — should stop using the term “higher education,” as it resembles an oxymoron. A more accurate term is “enforced indoctrination.”

    1. “stop using the term “higher education,” as it resembles an oxymoron. A more accurate term is “enforced indoctrination.””

Since nearly all education at any level today is mostly indoctrination, I would modify your term as applied to colleges and universities to “enhanced enforced indoctrination”…

      1. Oh look another commenter with a “notion of civility and humanity”. Gotta love this blog, turley always brings the best of americans together.

    1. The contempt shown here for a victim is deeply troubling. We collectively exacerbate this downward spiral, however, when we allow ourselves to match that contempt instead of choosing a different path.
