San Diego State University Professor Celebrates Israeli Being Eaten by Shark

A San Diego State University professor is under fire this week after celebrating the death of a former Israeli soldier who was eaten by a shark. Chicano studies Professor Roberto Hernández joyfully reported the death and mocked the victim as others joined him in the macabre celebration.

The site College Fix reported that Professor Hernández shared an article on his personal Facebook page with the title “Former Israeli Soldier From the 8207 Battalion is Eaten by a Shark in Occupied Palestine.” Alongside the late-April post, he wrote, “Shark Oyate for the win!! #solidarity #FreePalestine.” Oyate is a term derived from the Dakota language, meaning “people” or “nation.”

Hernández then continued to mock the victim with others on the site. When someone asked if the shark was okay, Hernández responded by saying he “heard [the] shark contracted cancer.”When another said that they hoped the victim “was aware of what was happening” and that “it was tortuous [sic],” Hernández reacted by liking the comment. On his page, Hernández describes himself on Facebook as “an unapologetic anti-Zionist, AND a proud pro-Semite in that … [he supports] the Semitic Palestinian people and Semitic original Jewish peoples of Palestine.”He has held high-ranking positions at SDSU, including chairing the University Senate’s 2024-25 DEI committee as well as the search committee for the College of Arts and Letters provost search. He was also a member of the SDSU Press editorial board.

Comments on his original post were divided, with some people agreeing with him, and others calling it “despicable behavior,” especially for a professor.

Violent commentary by liberal faculty is not uncommon in higher education.

We have previously discussed professors advocating “detonating white people,” denouncing policecalling for Republicans to suffer,  strangling police officerscelebrating the death of conservativescalling for the killing of Trump supporters, supporting the murder of conservative protesters, supporting for the attempted assassination of President Trump, and other outrageous statements. One professor who declared that there is “nothing wrong” with such acts of violence as killing conservatives was actually promoted.

Postings on social media outside of school are generally protected from liability. However, that has not stopped schools from targeting conservatives who say inappropriate or controversial things on social media. Conservative North Carolina professor Dr. Mike Adams faced calls for termination for years with investigations and cancel campaigns. He repeatedly had to go to court to defend his right to continue to teach. He was then again targeted after an inflammatory tweet. He was done. Under pressure from the university, he agreed to resign with a settlement. Four years ago this month, Adams went home just days before his final day as a professor. He then committed suicide.

Political commentary on social media is generally protected speech. However, this latest controversy shows how, while purging most faculties of conservatives and libertarians, universities are hiring far-left and radical academics to teach in higher education. They, like Hernández, are given major positions in the institution and then replicate their extreme and intolerant views. Keep in mind that these individuals rarely come to universities as clandestine radicals. Faculty members hire them in full knowledge (and with full support) of their extreme views.

The discussion between Hernández and many of these commentators shows how rage gives a license to many to abandon the most fundamental notions of civility and humanity. These same individuals view themselves as great humanitarians as they strip any humanity from those they hate. They celebrate the painful deaths of those with opposing views with a righteous rage that is addictive and contagious.

Professor Hernández, like so many of his colleagues, is teaching a chilling lesson by example to his students in how to hate without hesitation or reflection. For its part, SDSU will express fleeting concern and then continue the same hiring practices that have turned higher education into a far-left academic echo chamber.

  1. I saw no comment from the university which hired this mr. hernandez. in a normal world, he’d have been fired and stripped of all privilegs. in 2025 with millions of voters who put trump in the white house, and many of them armed, if i were the life insurance company insuring mr. hernandez, i would have the Board terminate his coverage, immediately. No amount of annual premium can compensate for the large insurance payout not if, but when, this man loses his life well before the mortality tables say he will..

    1. Perhaps re-education facilities can one day train Hernandez to learn valuable skills to actually help society, rather than just talk trash. Facilities in the desert, where he will learn to dig irrigation ditches for the community gardens, which the “students” will use to help their diets. Also they will be free to “eat ze bugs” to help reduce global warming. ‘

  2. Enough, Putin!

NATO must now attack Putin with conventional weapons until he folds.

NATO cannot take Putin’s threats of World War III seriously, as doing so would result in NATO’s surrender without protest, which is ultimately unacceptable to rational human beings.

Putin should win the Nobel Peace Prize like Obama.

    1. Gotta keep the money laundromat in operation to line your pockets, eh? So what if another million men die in the great Eastern European meat grinder, you gotta have another yacht, eh?

    2. You sound like a nut. We don’t want world war III. it was NATO’s fault for expanding into Ukraine in the first place, historically part of Russia. What fools believed they would not fight over it? Fools, gambling with our lives. War pigs

  3. How can the people who have lived in an are for thousands of years be considered “occupiers”?

Judaism evolved in Judea. Jews have their own language, culture, traditions, dress, and religion that developed in Judea, as its native people.

Palestine isn’t an Arabic word. The Roman colonizers renamed Judea as Palestine, and oppressed the Jews. Then Arabs colonized Judea and oppressed the Jews.

How can otherwise reasonably intelligent people know that there is ancient architecture in Israel, with Hebrew, and call Jews occupiers?

    1. AI Overview

In summary, the creation of Israel was a key historical event. It stemmed from Jewish historical and religious ties to the land, fueled by the Zionist movement, and shaped by the post-World War I era and the United Nations.

It’s kinda like “Crazy Abe’s” Civil War.

It was totally illicit and unconstitutional but there it is.

General Lee said you done kilt all I can stand, oh, and, “Sic Semper Tyrannis.”

  4. PBS just sued the Trump administration for viewpoint discrimination because he’s cutting off their federal funding. They have a right to their viewpoint, but they don’t have the right to force the federal government to fund their viewpoint.

    1. Article 1, Section 8

The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States;….
      ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The Public Broadcasting Act of 1967 is completely unconstitutional, as Congress has the constitutional power to tax only for debt, defense, and “general Welfare,” or ALL WELL PROCEED, which is defined as and limited to emergency services and basic infrastructure.

NPR, PBS et al. do not constitute debt, defense, or “general Welfare.”

Congress has no power to tax for individual welfare, specific welfare, particular welfare, favor or charity.

      1. You have it right. General welfare means the wellbeing of the states when it comes to trade, defense, interstate justice, and other matters that can only be handled at the federal level. Most of what the federal government is doing today is in violation of the Tenth Amendment. This has happened because the founders neglected to provide means by which the citizenry (those for whom the Constitution is a guarantee) can ENFORCE that guarantee. This and practically all other known problems with constitutional government are solved by the more advanced constitution derived in Word from Future, a book by Rock Pig available on Amazon.

You appear to be knowledgeable. This advanced constitution will make you more so.

      2. Then you might want to tell this to the Supreme Court. I’m sure
the Constitution interpreters would appreciate your interpretation of the Constitution.
        They would value your insight.

      1. Right on! Left-wingers should be viewed as parasites. They live off the rest of us. They milk us with taxes, and they use government to keep us from protecting ourselves from their lechery. They take every opportunity to get for themselves and their supporters what they don’t deserve. It’s time for a delousing! (And Rock Pig’s cogent book Word from Future can point the way.)

  5. I have to laugh. So these death numbers dennis is throwing out ( 56,000 Gazans have been killed by the IDF) is coming from???????????????????????

Hamas. Now they would never lie. Except when one of there rocket fell on a hospital parking lot and they claimed it came from Israel. But the truth came out and no hundreds were not killed and yes Hamas shot the rocket that hit the hospital.

So dennis you get your news from Hamas or AP…. foolish person.

    1. What does it matter. Al Queda killed about 3000 americans and over the next ten years conservatively we killed 200,000 in Afghanbistan and Iraq. Other estimates go as high as 2M

Gazan’s killed 1100 Israeli’s. What did they think would happen ?

Further there are over 2M Gazan’s – this is not genocide.

Possibly as many as 1M ukrainians have been killed in the past 3 years.

Even if 56,000 Gazan’s is correct, it is a very small number – under the circumstances.

The US was unable to invade Afghanistan or Iraq and keep civilian casualties that low.

      1. If and I say if these number is right. They were because of combat. Not some person walking down the road.

    2. Right! And how many of these Gazans killed are Hamas militants in one form or another? ALL of the Hamas militants should be killed, no matter how many remain. No one who conducts unprovoked deadly attacks on innocents deserves to live. The intentional unprovoked attacks on Israelis, the incessant rocket attacks, etc., are called murder, and, as in Rock Pig’s Word from Future, it must be understood that anyone committing murder is also committing suicide.

  6. – Thou Shalt Not Covet

    – Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness

    – Thou Shalt Not Steal

    – Thou Shalt Not Kill

These foreigners shall not Covet America, Bear False Witness (i.e. utterly fraudulent “asylum” claims) to enter illegally, Steal America, or Kill Americans while invading or occupying America criminally.

And yet these Unrepentant Sinners and Criminals do it continually with the understanding that the American Founders denied them admission to become citizens and with the assistance of traitors and direct and mortal enemies already inside America.

      1. * The person was citing a portion of the US adopted moral code. It’s basic logic. Either that or drunk posting…

    1. Agreed! The tenets you cite are basic to every evolved religion and are essential to the further evolution of humanity. How to deal with violations of these tenets is aptly described in detail in Rock Pig’s Word from Future. Read Rock Pig’s The Laws of Life if you want to equip your mind with the most powerful ideas ever advanced in support of morality and in grounding us on what life is all about.

  7. I’ve spent some time in Latin America, lived in Puerto Rico and Venezuela as a kid, and visited many times since, also took five years of Spanish in middle and high school, plus three years in college. In grad school my best friends were Venezuelans from whom I continued to learn Latin American culture, which I love as much aa the people. (All prior to Hugo Chavez’s destruction of the nation)

All of which is to say, Chicano Studies could be something. It could be enriching and valuable if it focused on art, literature, film, language, and culture. But here is a prime example of how the Left corrupts everything it touches: it reduces everything to politics, which takes the spirit and soul out of it and leaves it flat, dry, and angry. Then it ultimately becomes demonic because its spiritual emptiness leaves a vacuum that is filled with negativity and darkness. The end result of this process is almost always Jew hatred.

    1. chicano, na

adj. Dicho de una persona: Que es de origen mexicano y vive en los Estados Unidos de América, especialmente en las áreas fronterizas con México.
adj. Perteneciente o relativo a los chicanos.

      https://dle.rae.es/chicano

The word chicano has nothing to do with the fantasies of Roberto Hernandez. Since you know Spanish, you can read the definition of the word yourself from the Royal Spanish Academy, (Real Academia Española or RAE), Spain’s official royal institution that ensures the stability of the Spanish language. Roberto wouldn’t have a clue about stability nor the Spanish language. Chicano studies is Marxism infused Mexican-American fantasies, driven by butt hurt from Aztecs killing off their ancestors.

      Let’s not placate these idiotas*.

      * idiota: Que carece de toda instrucción
      https://dle.rae.es/idiota

      1. Fair enough. I probably had in mind the idea of Latin American studies, but used “Chicano” due to the context of this article, which lacked precision on my part.

    2. The left makes everyone they champion and everything they touch LESS.

Look what they did to Venezeula, to Cuba, to South Africa, to pretty much anywhere the left has gained power.

My Wife was the victim of a heinous violent crime that made the newspapers for several days in 1983 just 6 months after we were married. To a lessor extent I too was a victim of that crime. For more than a year afterwards it was like all collor had been removed fromt he world.

We had every right to demand that the world give us back what it stole from us. We had every right to wallow in deserved self pity and to let the harm done to us destroy the rest of our lives.

But ultimately we realized, it did not matter who was at fault. That even if the world gave us everything to make things better, that the only ones who could actually restore our lives were US.

When you teach people that they are victims, When you teach them that others owe them, when you teach them that everything bad in their lives is someone else’s fault – even in the rare instance that might be true, You HARM them, You keep them from taking their own lives back – something no one else can do, something no laws can do, something no reparations can do, something no government benefits can do.

The left teaches people they are weak – especially minorities.

When you teach blacks, women, minorities, gays, trans, palestinians that they are oppressed, you are inherently teaching them they are inferior, that they do not have power over their own lives, that they are so weak that others can oppress them.

The left makes people less than they are.

      1. John – good analysis.

I’m very sorry to hear about the crime your wife and you had to endure.

      2. Leftists thrive off parasitism. They bring societies down to their own depraved level. It’s time for a delousing!

    3. Leftists are predominantly parasites and people whose livelihoods depend on the proliferation of parasites. Parasites hate people who are smarter than they are or work harder than they do or discipline themselves better than they do. That’s why they are jealous of and hate the Jews. Parasites bring societies down to their own depraved level. They infect and cripple the society. It’s time for a delousing!

  8. When I attended SDSU, close to 50 years ago, you had to take nine semester units (3 classes) of upper division (300-400 series) “General Education”, of which three (3) units (1 class) had to be “cross-cultural”. That is how I ended up taking “Women’s Studies”, it met the “cross-cultural” upper division General Ed requirement to graduate. Just checked the 2025 SDSU catalog and they still have this requirement, except they now call it “Ethnic Studies”. If someone wants to voluntarily take these classes more power to them. I have no objection. But MANDATING this DEI nonsense to graduate is too much IMO. I think this is why DEI is getting hammered today, because woke wingnuts FORCE it down our throat.

“Students must complete a three-unit ethnic studies course. Ethnic studies courses are identified throughout the catalog with an ES designation. Ethnic studies courses focus on the interdisciplinary and comparative study of ethnicity, race, and racialization. Courses meeting this requirement place strong emphasis on groups whose socio-historical experience of land and labor were critical to the building of the United States: African Americans, Asian Americans, Chicanos/Latinos, and Native Americans. An analysis of empire, migrations, nation-building, power, and the intersections of class, culture, gender, race, and sexuality are critical components in these courses.”

    1. Odd I went to UCSD in the late 1970’s I don’t remember either my college or SDSU having the classes?
I know things went off the rail at SDSU in the 1980’s about the Aztec warrior mascot.

  9. See Estovir, May 31, 2025 at 9:05 AM:
To be a Chicano is to inherit generations of resistance, defiance, resilience and dignity By ROBERTO D. HERNÁNDEZ

According to Estovir’s research, Hernandez “[E]arned, per his UCSD profile, a Chicana/o Studies Honors BA (with an emphasis in Political Theory), as well as Masters and PhD in Comparative Ethnic Studies (Black, Native and Chicana/o Studies) from the University of California, Berkeley….”

Hernandez’s curriculum vitae show’s a great interest in ethnic agitation and self-righteous rage, rooted in social movements, where, as viewed from the outside world, he’d never get a [real] job, except with ANTIFA. All universities are now filled with exactly this kind of “human detritus of progressive indoctrination,” as whimsicalmama puts it. You could read any other ethnic-studies “professor’s” bio, and it would look and sound just like Hernandez’s.

Hernandez, like so many other Chicano Studies acolytes, is waiting for the gathering storm of resistance, a “reconquista,” to bring about the return of Aztlan, the land once belonging to Mexico (appropriated by the U.S.), and by rights, Chicano land [BTW, the land of which Native Americans were first relieved].

    1. Do you still need welfare and affirmative action, or may we rid ourselves of that unconstitutional charity?

  10. Celebrating a death is a revolting practice.

Americans’ grief reactions at the deaths of Israeli soldiers are massively higher — and socially-accepted — while it remains politically dangerous to mourn the death of Hamas supporters, QED.

  11. Professor Hernández is just another nobody trying to be a somebody. He contributes nothing of any value to the common weal.

    1. By that you mean thrown out of the kingdom long long ago and has no hope of returning nor even knowing it exists never having seen it? Yep, but what you don’t know can’t hurt you. Yep, forever as he doesn’t learn from his mistakes.

    2. – Thou Shalt Not Covet

      – Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness

  12. SDSU is a state university and pays this professor’s salary. Does not continuing to do so render the state complicit in this professor’s bigotry? This is not academic freedom. It’s outright bigotry and the citizens of California should not be required to pay for it. BTW, what exactly does one do with a degree that concentrates in Chicano studies?

    1. “BTW, what exactly does one do with a degree that concentrates in Chicano studies?”
—The only thing one can do: FOMENT—indoctrinate and radicalize.

    2. very good points —- Except for Hollywood back in the early to mid 1900’s when entreprenurial and creative individuals of the jewish faith built a movie and tv business unrivaled anywhere in the world,
California has never been welcoming to the jewish people.

  13. Counter point:
literally thousands and thousands of people have openly celebrated the mass deaths of Palestinians in Gaza. Quite a Jewish social media pages openly gloat, laugh about, celebrate and cheer these deaths. Ditto for many so-called “conservative” pages, which really are just Israeli activists masquerading as “Americans”… They’ve been openly celebrating the deaths of thousands of Palestinians. And yes, many of the Jews cheering were professors, just like this man.
Did you “condemn” any of them…..?
Are you upset now, because people are celebrating the death of a human being…? or are you only upset because they are celebrating the death of an Israeli-Zionist-Jew former-soldier….?

Reminder: Jeffrey Epstein worked for Israel, so……..

    1. No one celebrated the abortion of people living in Gaza. Most people recognized the abortive ideation entertained by Hamas et al, but did not indulge liberal license to entertain Diversity (e.g. racism) and other class-disordered ideologies with progressive pathologies that sabotage relationships between people, between men and women, between mother and child, etc.

      1. What the hell did you just try to say? I might “entertain” your argument if you expressed yourself plainly and clearly i.e. dumb it down for me please.

      1. Prof. Turley needs to rethink this comment section because we have way too many anonymous commenters and now this anti-Semitic, sick troll.

      2. Dustoff

Again with the demands for proof.
Is this the only comment you are capable of making ????

You never seem to make an actual comment of substance.
Probably because you are severely cognitively impaired.

        1. Still waiting on the proof Anonymous…
Can you think? So far you have offered zero substance.

        2. If you comment anonymously – Proof is ALWAYS needed.

          Posting anonymously has benefits.
But the price for doing so is that you have no reputaion, no credibility.
          That is YOUR CHOICE.

Every anonymous post is essentially the same as a first time poster,
the rest of us have no idea whether you are credible or whether you just make things up.

S if you post anonymously – you must prove everything you say, because as an anonymous poster you can not earn a reputation for credibility.

Dustoff is correct in demanding proof from you.

          1. Dustoff and John Say,
Well said and good comments. The annonys just throw out crap hoping something will stick. They know nothing, and have nothing and they know it. But, in their failing narrative they just keep throwing crap.

    2. literally thousands and thousands of people have openly celebrated the mass deaths of Palestinians in Gaza. Quite a Jewish social media pages openly gloat, laugh about, celebrate and cheer these deaths. Ditto for many so-called “conservative” pages, which really are just Israeli activists masquerading as “Americans”…
      ===
Total Nonsense⬆ And trust me, if ANY party engaged in this kind of conduct they would/will take it up the wazoo, just like Mr Chicano Studies here does. Your argument is baseless. In any event you don’t call out Mr Chicano Studies at all for his hate, but you do try to DOUBLE DOWN by trying to JUSTIFY it by going “look, they did it so it must be OK”. Come on.

    3. Please where is anyone celebrating the death of Palestinians ?

There are several ways this war could end – like nearly every other war.
Hamas could surrender – and the killing would stop
Hamas could be destroyed on the battlefield – which THEY have chosen to be homes and hospitals,
The Palestinians could turn Hamas over to Israel.

The broader conflict in the Mideast could any anytime that the Palestinians are ready to accept the state that is offered to them – not the entirety of Israel which was never theirs to begin with.

This is particularly disturbing in Gaza as unlikel the West Bank, Gaza has everything – several times over necescary to be a rich country. Gaza is poor because it chooses was rather than peace.

  14. The lesson here is that its okay to be happy when bad things happen to your enemies.

    1. *. A professorship is a position of power. If a person such as Hernández is placed in such he’ll do much damage to others.

There’s proof of his racism on Facebook and it should be placed with the DOJ or State AG. Jewish organizations can file civilly perhaps but he’s risen far above his abilities.
