Pie-Crust Patriotism: Michael Moore Rewrites the Pledge of Allegiance

Filmmaker Michael Moore has decided that it is time to rewrite the Pledge of Allegiance in the name of tolerance and unity while attacking “MAGA-heads” and President Trump. If that seems confusing, it is a model of clarity when compared to the new pledge. Mary Poppins (who is perfect in everyway) would likely call this “pie-crust patriotism.”

Moore has previously sought to amend the Constitution by repealing the Second Amendment. He also suggested surrounding the Supreme Court to prevent the confirmation of another conservative justice (without explaining how such a blockade would stop a confirmation across the street).

He is now turning his hand to the Pledge of Allegiance.

Many Americans are understandably a tad attached to our pledge, starting with “I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

Rev. Francis Bellamy would not likely be won over by the Moore remake. (The phrase “under God” was incorporated later into the Pledge of Allegiance on June 14, 1954). Here is the new version:

“I pledge allegiance to the people of the United States of America. And to the democracy for which we all stand: One person, one vote, one nation, part of one world, everyone! A seat at the table! Everyone! A slice of the pie! With liberty and justice, equality, and kindness and the pursuit of happiness for all.”

As an initial matter, I fail to see how the nation is embodied by a run-on sentence that has more exclamation marks than a pre-teen’s text to bffs.

The call for unity is particularly curious from a person who has labeled Republicans as racists and consistently engaged in rage rhetoric. Among his prior unifying, “slice of the pie” declarations was that white people “are not good people” and are inherently dangerous.

The Moore pledge has all of the elements that would unify any gathering on Rodeo Drive. It replaces nationalism with globalism and introduces a pastry-based patriotism.

To paraphrase Mary Poppins, “Oh, that’s a piecrust [pledge]! Easily made, easily broken!”

  1. Repeal the 2nd Amendment? How can a right granted by God be repealed? Can any of the first 10 Amendments be repealed?

  2. “The Bumper Sticker of Allegiance”?

Calling Michael Moore’s proposed Pledge of Allegiance “The Bumper Sticker of Allegiance” is an apt exercise in critical analysis. It captures the proposal’s pithy, slogan-like quality—bold, attention-grabbing, and oversimplified, much like a bumper sticker. The phrase suggests Moore’s pledge prioritizes catchy phrases (“slice of the pie,” “everyone!”) over substantive, enduring commitment, reducing complex ideals to soundbites. Bumper stickers are designed for quick impact, not deep consensus, mirroring the proposal’s lack of precision and broad appeal. Its hard left, progressive, ideological tilt and uneven tone further align with the fleeting, divisive nature of bumper-sticker rhetoric, unlikely to unite diverse groups or withstand scrutiny as a national oath.

  3. I don’t know about youse guys, but I get all of my beauty tips from Moore and other celebrities…

  4. I have already seen and heard too much about this pigheaded self-aggrandized person.

  5. Message to Michael Moore:

“Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life son”–Dean Wormer (Animal House, 1978).

    1. ~ 1000 Cuban-Americans gathered in the streets of Little Havana Miami November 2016 around midnight, when Fidel Castro died, honking horns, playing music, singing, dancing, gathering to celebrate the death of a tyrant. No rioting, no looting, no police confrontations, no shootings, no deaths. Funny that.

The only ones mourning were the MSM – hijo de perros

  6. In Other News: “Michael Moore Demands That School Children be Required to Use Bellamy Salute when Reciting His New Pledge of Allegiance”

Moore said the pairing of the Bellamy Salute with his new pledge would symbolize all that is good and dear in a strong leader and fatherland.

  7. Not everyone in this world deserves my allegiance. Those who try to kill me or steal my freedom deserve death instead. This fruity, namby-pamby unrealism by Moore and his like demonstrates a mentality inferior to that of a child. He’s clearly a eunuch serving the descendents of Cinderella’s stepsisters who came to our continent seeking sexually starved men they could dominate.

  8. Another pledge that didn’t make the cut: I pledge allegiance to Little Debbie, and the Swiss cake Rolls that she makes. One Big Mac, under the golden arch, with three large fries, two chocolate shakes, and four hot apple pies for supper.

  9. I pledge allegiance to Jesus Christ, and to the faith for which it stands. One Kingdom under God, with liberty, justice and salvation for all who believe in Him.

  10. OT, Groomers in Florida have not changed their ways. Now they’re asking high school students to switch from heterosexual to homosexual. Yes, they are asking sexually explicit questions of 15-year-olds and urging them to voluntarily switch, telling them that it’s bad to be heterosexual because they contribute to hunger and overpopulation. This is in the public school system.

During a course for high school children in Miami-Dade County, students were assigned to complete a sexuality-focused questionnaire that asked a series of bizarre questions such as: “What do you think caused your heterosexuality?”; “Is it possible that being straight is just a phase you may grow out of?”; and, “Considering the menace of hunger and overpopulation, could the human race survive if everyone were straight like yourself?”

  11. Many of us are a “tad attached” to our Constitution, and expect our elected leaders to abide by their promise to preserve and protect the Constitution. Instead, we have a lying sociopathic narcissist who cheated his way into office by lying about immediately bringing down the cost of groceries, who sold the power to arbitrarily cut aid programs to his largest campaign donor–a drug abusing weirdo–who, in addition to arbitrarily firing thousands of federal employees, cut aid to starving people, and proposed a “big, beautiful bill” that will cut Medicaid and Medicare (after promising he wouldn’t “touch” either program), cut school lunch programs and SNAP benefits and tried to shut down the Department of Education and the CFPB–and why? To reduce the federal deficit–oh, no–to cut taxes for the wealthiest, which will add trillions to the deficit.

    1. Awwww, is your TDS getting you down? There is good news: psychiatric help is available. 🙂

      1. Awwww—is your lack of facts to counter the truth getting you down so you have to accuse people who say things you don’t like of having a “derangement syndrome”? If you believe Trump’s lies and/or that anything he does is for a reason OTHER THAN his massive ego, getting revenge, seeking attention, getting people to kiss his ass, then YOU are the one who needs psychiatric help.

    2. Trump’s consistent use of “fraud” or “waste” as qualifiers in his promises not to “touch” Medicaid and Medicare functions as a disclaimer, allowing flexibility to alter administrative or operational aspects without directly cutting benefits. Trump’s qualifiers provide flexibility to pursue efficiency measures or indirect changes (e.g., staffing cuts or provider payment adjustments) while maintaining a stance against benefit reductions.

  12. One person, one vote, one nation, part of one world, everyone! A seat at the table! Everyone! A slice of the pie!

There is no verb in any of the above. It’s just random images and phrases thrown together with no grammar. It’s meaningless. This is typical Michael Moore. What a country, where an idiot like him can get rich.

P.S. The “slice of the pie” language is also typical Marxist claptrap, where the pie never grows and the government’s job is to adjust how big a slice each person gets by robbing Peter to pay Paul. Capitalism is based on specialization, innovation, and gains from trade. Even someone with a tiny slice sees his wealth increase as the pie continually grows.
