Monarchy Malarkey: Democrats Revive Claim that Democracy is Dying in the “No Kings” Protests

Below is my column in the Hill on resumption of the claims that “democracy is dying” as part of the “No Kings” protests. When this column posted, I was inundated with the usual threats and profanity. However, the emails and messages were particularly vehement this week. (One on Father’s Day explained that when a bullet is put in my head, my children would celebrate).  For self-professed champions of democracy, there is nothing more deflating and demoralizing than being told that democracy is not dying. “No Kings” is the ultimate virtue signal, but it requires a monarch to make the self-image complete. There are obviously important issues to debate and to protest. However, we can have that debate without the absurd claims that our constitutional system is failing, as claimed by many politicians and pundits.

Here is the column:

Across the nation today, thousands of protests are being organized by left-wing groups, unions, and other organizations, with chants of “No Kings, No Kings, No Kings.” The mantra is a calculated campaign to cement the notion that Donald Trump has assumed dictatorial powers.

It is a curious campaign, since every indication is that our constitutional system is operating precisely as designed.

Courts have ruled both in favor of and against the Trump administration.  Congress has held hearings and passed legislation on various issues. We have the oldest and most stable constitutional system in the history of the world. The Constitution is not only designed for times like these — it was written in a time like this.

The superficial appeal of such campaigns is evident in the triggering event that sparked the protests. The Trump administration is holding a parade to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States Army — the kind of celebration that is common among our closest allies, from France to Great Britain.

Since this anniversary coincides with Trump’s birthday, it is claimed that it is nothing more than a royal birthday bash, even though Trump has been calling for such military parades since his first term.

The well-funded protests are being fueled by Democratic leaders, who are resuming their claims that citizens must either protest this weekend or accept tyranny in the United States. Rep. Eric Swalwell (D., Calif.) went so far as to declare, “If we don’t show up, Democracy dies.”

The Democrats seem to believe that the “death of democracy” theme that failed spectacularly in the last election can now rescue their party from record-low polling. In Chicago, Mayor Brandon Johnson (who is at 6 percent popularity with his constituents) announced, “I am counting on all of Chicago to resist in this moment.”

Even some judges appear to have picked up on the mantra. Before issuing his order to stop Trump’s use of the National Guard in Los Angeles this week, District Court Judge Charles Breyer declared in open court that Trump was another “King George.”

He then wrote an opinion that included in it many Democratic talking points — suggesting, for example, that Trump was creating disorder by calling out the National Guard to deal with disorder. Breyer further indicated that the violence in Los Angeles was relatively minor, despite potentially deadly attacks on law enforcement, arson, and looting.

Many of us have noted that there are good-faith arguments on both sides of this issue. However, since the Madison Administration, the Supreme Court has warned lower courts not to second-guess the basis for deployments. Rather than confine himself to the relative authority of the federal and state governments on ordering deployments, Judge Breyer eagerly entered the political fray on these collateral issues.

The impression is that Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) had Breyer at hello.

The “No Kings” mantra is meant to implant this image in the public psyche, despite the lack of evidence that democracy is in any real danger.

It is called the illusory truth effect, whereby the repetition of a false claim can create an impression of truth. Ironically, it is a technique denounced by some of these very same critics as a common means of disinformation. They cite the effect as a justification for censorship of opposing views.

Yet, what is disinformation to some is information to others. “Democracy is dying” may be an absurdity, but it is also their advocacy — and it is protected speech, no matter how disinformative.

The danger is that these Democratic politicians are fueling the most radical and violent elements in our country with their “rage rhetoric.”

The images reinforce the “no holds barred” message.

People watch unhinged members such as Rep. LeMonica McIver (D.-N.J.)  hitting federal officers and forcing her way into federal facilities and the lessons are not lost on them.

They see Rep. Maxine Waters (R-Calif.), who has fueled the anger in prior riots, accusing California Guardsmen of coming to shoot people in Los Angeles and telling them, “You better shoot straight.”

Many are fueling the rage as a license to oppose Trump by any means. What they will not admit is that they need the rage. They like it.

That was evident in the disruption of a press conference by Sen. Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) who not only yelled at Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, but resisted efforts of security to move him into the hall. He then claimed to be a victim of authoritarianism.

The right to disrupt has never been a basis for democracy, but it is a basis for anarchy. The Democratic Party has finally embraced the philosophy of former Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.), who famously pulled the fire alarm in order to prevent a vote from happening on the House floor.

Before he was voted out of office, Bowman was shown on videotape screaming about gun control in the Capitol as his colleagues left the floor following a vote. Various Democratic members, including former House Majority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), tried to calm Bowman. However, when Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) asked Bowman to stop yelling, Bowman shouted back: “I was screaming before you interrupted me.

These politicians and pundits will not tolerate such interruptions this weekend. Whatever unfolds, it’s Trump’s fault. There is a national rave planned, and the republic be damned.

  1. 1st off, thank you for the read, much nicer to read this than to listen to the hate channels. 2nd, liberals are off the rails, its not a protest they are after its destruction of whatever they want to hate at. It might be a store front, it might be someone’s opinion, or our lawmakers. Liberals shown on TV who are destroying our cities…. remember 2020 when it was going on, not one democrat took the looting and destruction of private property as a threat to regular folks, they just past it off including that bozo Biden. Our sanctuary cities are nothing but garbage dumps, thanks to the democrats.
Democrats who are real democrats need to distance themselves from the garbage we see destroying our cities, from the garbage that is allowing that to happen, Newsome for one – the joker!

    1. *. I actually think that’s an AI image of BO and it has his endorsement. BLM, and others want the border closed because the flood of migrants is costing money that should be black money and also finding the migrants aren’t bowing to the black masters IMHO.

  2. Trump campaigned promising to take certain actions if he got elected, such as deporting illegal aliens, cleaning up the fraud and waste in a bloated federal government, and getting men out of women’s competitive sports and locker rooms. Based on those promises, when the people went to the polls, they elected him. He won all seven swing states, the popular vote, and the electoral vote. Now he is doing those things he promised to do. That’s about as clear a definition of democracy as it is possible to come up with.

What is the losing side’s reaction? A hysterical and psychotic claim that it is the end of democracy. The Left in this country really is characterized by a combination of mental illness, childishness, hysteria, and violence. Now we know that when they use that phrase, “our democracy,” they mean a dictatorship of the left-wing globalists. They want us all to own nothing and eat bugs (except for the left-wing billionaires who will be exercising domination and living it up).

    1. Trump’s refusal to abide by habeas corpus is a serious debial of democracy. Trump’s call for terminating parts of the Constitution is a serious denial of democracy. You’ll never address it. But don’t let the facts get in the way of your nut job right wing extremist fantasy.

      1. Not only is that a deflection (equating a supposed illegality with a “denial of democracy” – just the kind of moronic talk you libs traffic in) but your accusations are so general it’s impossible to know what in the living f—- you’re talking about. Perhaps that’s by design.

If you want to discuss sone supposed illegality by Trump you’ll have to at least be specific enough so other people can have some clue of what you’re referring to.

          1. That has nothing to with the question I asked: what is ATS talking about when he accuses Donald Trump of “refusing to abide by habeas corpus” or “terminating part of the Constitution.”

        1. You failed to explain how refusing to abide by habeas corpus is okay. You failed to explain how terminating parts of the Constitution is okay. And you became angry using the f word in your reply. You seem to be a very unintelligent person. And a failure… oldfailurefromkansas.

          1. I asked you what you were talking about, to be specific because your accusation was too general to identify any particular thing. You have failed to answer that. You obviously have no clue what you are talking about, or you would have specified by now. It seems evident, then, that you are just repeating someone else’s talking points. Enjoy your evening.

  3. Turley only finds offensive what Democrats do, and seemingly pretends not to understand the “No Kings” protests. Here it is in a nutshell: Donald Trump lied about Project 2025 being his agenda, and also lied about being able to immediately bring down the cost of groceries on day 1, which he knew would get substantial numbers of people to vote for him who otherwise wouldn’t. He also lied about being able to end the Israeli-Hamas war in 24 hours–even before inauguration day. So, he gets elected by the slimmest of margins in recent history, and his agenda for Day 1 was to immediately pardon the J6 insurrectionists who trashed the Capitol and beat up Capitol Police officers because THEY DID IT FOR HIM. Immediately, Project 2025 had a large stack of Executive Orders ready to go–all laid out in Project 2025–and he signed them–seemingly not even knowing what was in them. Many of them were outrageous–like trying to rescind the Constitutional right of birthright citizenship. He handed over de facto control of federal agencies to his Lord Chamberlain–Elon Musk–who purchased the ability to cut budgets, fire civil servants and download our personal information by giving Trump almost $300 million. Trump ignores Court orders, ignores our tripartite of government by trying to dictate how federal money is spent–a power that belongs to the House of Representatives, and has tried to rule by royal fiat–e.g., Executive Orders. His Big Beautiful Budget is geared to reward his wealthiest contributors at the cost of cutting Medicaid, pushing millions off of health insurance, cutting school lunches, USAID, which will result in starvation deaths, –all for tax breaks for the very wealthiest. Trump has lost over 180 court cases in just 5 months’ time. He also called up the California National Guard over the objection of Governor Newsome and without there being any need, and lied about the Guard preventing LA from being burned down–even though they hadn’t been deployed yet. He demanded to have a Communist-style authoritarian parade with military members and equipment to celebrate his birthday–and, it was a royal flop. The American people are fed up, so millions of us took to the streets in protest.

    1. Project 2025 being his agenda
      ****************************

Yeah sure it is. He does like some of their ideas.

      1. Dustoff,
I have not read Project 2025, but I have read the GOP agenda and I agree with most of them.
Then I have to ask, what does the Democrat party offer?
        Nothing.

    2. Turley finds many in his own party “offensive” because they A R E !

You hate “Trump’s LIES,” while you ate up the LIES like honey when Biden and Mayorkas deliberately and treasonously, opened up this national wound.

      1. Hmm, so you’re saying you voted for Trump because he cheated on his wife having sex with woman who does hardcore pornography. Got it.

        1. Incredible! With so many serious events going on, you’re stuck on smut….there was hardly a president who wasn’t a philanderer. You got what?

    3. I don’t know where silly gigi gets her information, but Bloomberg notes a total of 328 cases in which 128 suffered injunctions/losses (several are on appeal), 43 wins, and 140 not ruled on yet. Of the 128 “losses” Bloomberg notes that some of them were by the same judges ruling negatively more than once during different phases of the litigation.
NEVER trust anything that gigi says, she just searches for and repeats propaganda.

      1. Why not post either an excerpt or link to what you are claiming, instead of attacking people who post things you don’t like? From the New York Times: “The legal clashes over President Trump’s blizzard of executive actions are intensifying, with new lawsuits and fresh rulings emerging day and night. As of June 13, at least 187 of those rulings have at least temporarily paused some of the administration’s initiatives.”

        1. I’m doing the exact same thing you do here everyday, giggles. I said it was Bloomberg, and you mention NYT. Why didn’t YOU post an excerpt or link, giggles? You do this repeatedly every day. Probably because you know most of it is out of context.

          1. Why do you call me giggles or other names?—you didn’t provide ANY QUOTE or link, a publication date or any other attribution. Just saying “Bloomberg” is not sufficient.

What’s really sad is the extent to which you MAGAts have to emulate your hero’s tactic–he has to have a villian against which to direct his rage–with namecalling, projecting blame, whatever–Obama, Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Kim Jong Un, Gov. Newsom–always has to have a target to make accusations against–instead of answering criticism with facts.

One thing I DO find encouraging is that your dear leader seems to be sad–just look at him–and this is not just after his lackluster birthday parade with all of the empty bleachers.

            1. “….with namecalling, projecting blame, whatever”

Did he learn it from you, little gigi, ? with all your “fat pig” “liar” “balding” “orange” etc. projections–even worse, not even related to the day;s subject in the blog? I sarcastically call you out as giggles and little, because you behave like a little kid. That’s different from the crude, sailor-like, ugly and inappropriate things you have flung at Turley, Trump, and others on this blog. I think you have created more harm for yourself than you can ever erase, even with your name changes.
Did you tell us that you asked your doctor if he was concerned about your weight, little gigi? Is that why you hate Trump, little girl? YOU are the one who does not provide links, or even the name of the article that you quote. Again, more projection. Gee, as a lawyer, you should know that stuff.

              1. Did Gigi say just say, “you didn’t provide ANY QUOTE or link, a publication date or any other attribution. Just saying ‘Bloomberg’ is not sufficient.”
HAHAHAHAHA, ^^ this from the clown gigi who just said “From the New York Times:…” without a link or title or name of article HAHAHA can’t make this stuff up, guys.

    4. @Anonymous

No, the vast majority of Americans find the modern left offensive, hence the 16-19% approval rating for the DNC (and with approval as low as 6% for certain individual dem representatives), and for November’s enormous election losses for dems. And I saved this link from a left-leaning source very much specifically to debunk trolls on ‘Project 2025’, whom I knew would continue to try to use it as an idiotic talking point far past its expiration date:

      https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2024/07/10/trump-project-2025-heritage-foundation-fact-check/74340278007/

  4. JONATHAN TURLEY is on his way to establishing himself in the history books as a right wing legal kook who had a platform defending the ridiculousness of MAGA’s extreme positions.

    1. You Commie trolls are in the middle of an emotional breakdown. It’s fun to watch, so thanks ☺️ 🍿

        1. We never-Trumper conservatives are laughing our asses off at Trump’s impotent fascist regime and at you for pretending to be a conservative when you’re actually the 2nd coming of a typical George Wallace supporter… though even less educated then they were.

        2. Dustoff,
They are losing it as their big protest turned out to be a big dud and they know it.

  5. Greetings MAGA morons

So much for all your insane wackadoodle MAGA conspiracy theories that Boelter assassinated Melissa Hortman on orders from Walz and the Democrats because she voted with Republicans.

According to US Attorney Joseph Thompson, the Hortman residence was the FOURTH one visited by Boelter.
He began at the home of state Sen. John Hoffman, wearing a black tactical vest, body armor, a “hyperrealistic silicone mask” and holding a flashlight and 9mm Beretta handgun, Thompson said.

After shooting the Hoffman’s, he went to the home of a representative in Maple Grove, who was away on vacation.
He then went to the home of a Senator in New Hope.
By this time local police were on alert after the Hoffman shooting.
They started doing welfare checks on other representatives.

At 2:36 a.m., after learning of the shooting at Hoffman’s home, New Hope police dispatched an officer to the New Hope lawmaker’s house, Thompson said.
When the officer arrived, she saw Boelter’s car parked down the block and she believed Boelter was an officer dispatched to the scene, Thompson said.
The New Hope officer drove to the state senator’s home and waited for other law enforcement, and by that time, Boelter had left the scene, Thompson said.

Brooklyn Park officers were subsequently dispatched to check on the Hortman residence.
When two Brooklyn Park officers arrived, they saw Boelter’s SUV in the driveway with emergency lights flashing and Boelter standing in front of the house a few feet from the door, Thompson said.
When Boelter saw the officers, he allegedly started firing and rushed into the house, killing Hortman and her husband, Thompson said.

The target list recovered from the suspect’s car outside the Hortmans’ house had a list of dozens of Minnesota Democrats, including Hoffman, Hortman, Gov. Tim Walz, U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar and U.S. Sen. Tina Smith, according to Thompson.

Apparently Hortman was not high on the list for assassination and the list was full of Democrats who, according to YOUR theory, ordered the hit on Hortman.

Looks like you will have to modify your insane theories now, but I have absolutely no doubt that you will be able to come up with some bizarre, convoluted theory to account for these actual facts.

    Have at it MAGA morons.

I know you can find a way to reconcile these facts with your theory that this was a Democrat ordered hit on Hortman.

    Go for it.
I know you can do it.
    I’ll wait.

    1. Just the first three words of the above reveal the comment is not worth reading. Rather, it is the typical c-r-a-p from the Communist America-haters that populate this blog, and whose presence Professor Turley is gracious enough to accommodate.

-Signed, a proud MAGA supporter because America is my country, I love her, and I think it’s a great idea to make her great again. Commie America haters disagree, which is why they use MAGA as a slur. The idea of making America great again is anathema to them. They would prefer America be destroyed. Even though they are supported by the lamestream media, November 5 of last year proved that was not enough to destroy this country.

      1. Oldman is having a hissy fit.
        Nice piece of deflection.
Can’t cope with the realization that the shooter is actually a fellow MAGA moron.

    2. Care to back this comment up with proof. (lib-moron)

Boelter assassinated Melissa Hortman on orders from Walz and the Democrats because she voted with Republicans.

      1. Idiot !!!
        Try Google you moron.
Literally hundreds of news reports with details from US Attorney

        1. I did check you fool.
Not a single news report has proof. (just a theory)

LOL you poor fools. Russia, russia, russia & hunter computer.. All over again.

          1. Dustoff

            WOW !!!!!

You are even more stupid than I thought !!!!
So, according to you, all those hundreds of news stories reporting on the statement by the US Attorney in a live video are “just theories” with no PROOF.
So all those hundreds of news sources have colluded to publish identical reports of the statement given by the US Attorney in a live video, but it is all just a theory, with no PROOF.

Perhaps you did not find the live video statement by US Attorney Thompson, in which he provided PROOF in the form of home video surveillance footage of Boelter’s presence at all 3 residences before he went to the Hortman residence.

Your idiotic demands for PROOF give a very telling insight into the bizarre thought processes of the MAGA mind.

Please watch the video link below.

I have no doubt that you will now claim that the video is fake.
            Please don’t disappoint me.

    3. Are you the “cognitive dissonance” Anon? Listen, the Walz-Chi-Com didn’t have to order any “hits,” as the current democrat party is full of hate-filled-assassins, who think political disagreements typically call for extremely insane solution’s like murder and mayhem….

If there is “a list” comprised of only democrats, you have to wonder about its existence, especially with this long time Walz-appointee/employee, who advocated strongly for immigration, not deportation, serving all the leftist causes. A lot of things don’t add up, especially how easy it is to give YOU a bone to pick—to reconcile “facts” that come late and don’t make sense.

    4. * . Boelter is a serial killer. Has he murdered others unkn? The motive appears to be anti abortion. Apparently he’s a radical Christian or there’s evidence of that alleged. He was training to be an undertaker.

This may simply be a maniac and nothing more but someone should have noticed within the Democrat ranks but what is just one more maniac in that group? Unnoticeable.

      1. There appears to be [already!] quite a bit of deflection and misdirection in this case; it would be very easy to throw extreme-leftists into more rage by making it look like an anti-abortion “christian,” targeting democrats. While this is the less-likely scenario, given Boelter’s long and deep Walz-connection and work history, a paper showing a democrat “hit list” would throw everyone off the track and achieve two things: 1) punish the one who voted with republicans, and 2 ) conflating deportation with the abortion conflict will cause a revenge backlash among mentally ill extreme-leftists, exacerbating the political hotbed and fomenting MORE violence. There’s more here than meets the eye.

        1. Dianna Bec,
I am still in the let’s wait and see what comes out of the investigation mode. No point in jumping to conclusions till we get verified facts.

          1. NotReallyaFarmer

            Really ???
You are waiting for verified facts???
            REALLY ?????

Did you watch the video of US Attorney Thompson giving his statement ???
Are facts directly from the prosecuting US Attorney’s mouth not to be considered as VERIFIED FACTS????
What exactly do you consider to be a VERIFIED Fact ?????

The facts are that Boelter went to 3 other residences before going to the Hortman residence.
The facts are that Hortman was FOURTH on the list.
The facts are that Boelter had a notebook with a list of 45 other Democrats including Walz.

This totally absurd theory that Boelter was sent by Walz and the Democrats to assassinate Hortman is perhaps one of the most insane and bizarre theories to come out of the deeply disturbed thinking of the MAGA moron mob.

        2. Dianna Bec

          Great effort.
          You MAGA morons never disappoint.

Your insane comment trying to fit the facts to your wackadoodle theory is even more convoluted and bizarre than I could have imagined.

Never let a few actual facts stand in the way of a perfectly good MAGA fantasy.

          Congratulations !!!

I knew you wouldn’t let me down !!!!!

          1. Glad you’re impressed !!! I’m ABSOLUTELY thrilled to comply, and play you at your own Moron-game [Clinton/Schiff “evidence” of Pee-tapes, Hunter Laptop from Russia, cocaine in the White House, brain-dead Biden puppeteered for 4-years. We can’t match you guys, but it’s fun to try.

        3. How did the list get in his car? It doesn’t make sense. His wife may have some clues.

  6. “CHARITY IS VOLUNTARY—A PRIVATE SECTOR FREE ENTERPRISE”

There is no such thing as their “democracy”—that is communism.

America is a restricted-vote republic, which democracy has been since its inception.

What the protestors are protesting is their own failure in freedom.

They simply want more “benefits” and “entitlements,” more “free stuff” and “free status.”

The Constitution provides maximal freedom under an infinitesimal government.

Article 1, Section 8, allows taxation for ONLY debt, defense, and “general Welfare,” or basic infrastructure, and allows regulation of ONLY “the value of money,” “commerce among nations, states, and Indian tribes,” and “land and naval Forces.”

The American thesis is freedom and self-reliance.

It’s really quite simple, but the protestors believe themselves entitled to other people’s money.

    They aren’t.

Therein lies the problem; they must be made to understand that they must be self-reliant and take care of themselves.

    1. (the protestors believe themselves entitled to other people’s money.) They think that because the democrat/prog party has inculcated that into their thinking – they have, quite literally, created a slave class who are dependent on their masters (dem politicians, bureaucrats, apostate church leaders, academics, media) that have made them totally dependent on the public trough that they cannot free themselves. They are now being frightened by their masters into believing that republicans want to take away their stuff (which we do in many instances) and fear is a great motivator for people to do evil things.

  8. The Left’s version of patriotism: burn down American cities, defund and assault the police, burn American flags and wave foreign flags in the streets.

All while protesting a 250th birthday tribute to the American army – the very institution that allowed us to no longer have a king.

    1. “The Left’s version of patriotism: burn down American cities, defund and assault the police, burn American flags and wave foreign flags in the streets.”

And what did trump do? Pardoned those that stormed the Capitol, terrorized everyone in the building, called for the VP to be hung, assaulted Capitol Police.
How dare you say that the left wants to burn down American cities when it is trump and his sycophants that have caused real damage. And don’t complain about the 3 burning cars in LA. this was bad but not nearly as bad as those that called for the VP to be hung.
      Grow up.

      1. J6 was a political protest that got out of hand, likely due to government provocateurs. Trump told his supporters to demonstrate “peacefully.” He requested the National Guard be called to ensure orderliness, but then Nancy Pelosi refused the request.

The fascist Biden Administration then went full Gestapo on the grandmas and grandpas who fist-bumped with the Capitol Police as the latter gave them a tour of the building. The fascist Biden administration so drastically overcharged and persecuted anyone who was even there that day, peacefully protesting, that it did tremendous damage to the justice system, including to its legitimacy. It was such overreach, such a travesty, that only a blanket pardon could undo the damage.

(Is that boom I just heard your head exploding from being exposed to the truth for the first time in your life?)

        1. Wow, ever consider the possibility that you might be in a cult?
trump called for peace and he called for violence in his speech on Jan 6. Capitol Police were assaulted. trump said he would only pardon non violent offenders. He pardoned them all, violent and non violent.

          1. He pardoned them all, violent and non violent.
Why did he? Simple the DC failed to protect their rights.
You know, following the rules of law.

          2. The cult is leftist, on full display on TikTok: go have a look.
            1) Trump called on his voters for statements of objection (protest), which is legal.
            2) Police and Ray Epps (infiltrators/provocatuers) started the assaults, along with Nancy Pelosi’s strategic non-action.
            3) Trump pardoned them ALL because ALL their rights (Habeas Corpus) were violated by the DC system.

        2. OMFK, I think trolls are actual children.

It’s pitiful. It’s unbearable quite frankly.

  9. Dem-o-rats doing what they do well.

A state Democratic lawmaker in North Carolina has come under fire for posting a photo of a “No Kings” protest over the weekend that featured an image of a be—-headed President Donald Trump.

    But peaceful right?

    1. And trump pardoned those that assaulted Capitol Police and called for the VP to be hung on Jan 6.

            1. Show us where Trump intervened or after the insurrection addressed the mob’s calling for Pence’s hanging.

  10. OT

CNN’s “JOURNALIST” referred to the bombed state broadcast propagandist at Iranian State TV as a “JOURNALIST.”

  11. The challenge for the “No Kings” protestors was always going to be trying to paint as a King the one President that dethroned tyrannical Democrat regimes, twice, and is actively trying to implement policies to keep our citizens safe and return power back to the states and the people. It’s no wonder then that the US Open had more drama than the No Kings protests.

    1. OLLY,
      Well said.
And I would of preferred to watch the US Open.
Call it for what the No Kings protests were: A big ol dud.

      1. I live in a small, San Diego county agricultural town, with a large Hispanic population. No Kings and the 250th birthday celebration were never going to compete with Concacaf, especially with Mexico playing on Saturday.

    2. The “No Kings” protestors support “King Karl Marx” and his Communist Manifesto, forcibly imposed by his “dictatorship of the proletariat (hired help).”

The “No Kings” protestors can’t survive in the absence of unconstitutional public welfare assistance, public healthcare, affirmative action, quotas, etc.

The “King” in America is “King Constitution,” which approves freedom, free enterprise, free industries, free markets, and private property, Marx’s nemesis, under infinitesimal government, while denying the enslavement of communism.

      1. You’re giving children too much credit using big words like communism. The protesters are either homeless or teens being used. There are some addled grammar, too, and few gramps.

  12. Off topic

Pakistan sides with Iran to destroy Israel

Pakistan is ready to ship ready to go H-bombs to Iran.

    1. What will the psychotic Pakistani theocracy do after Islamabad is erased with extreme prejudice and without notice?

    2. “Pakistan is ready . . .”

BS. You’re reporting Iranian propaganda. Such scaremongering it grotesquely irresponsible.

  13. That the “No Kings” protest was scheduled on the 250th anniversary of the creation of the Army is an irony that I’m sure is wasted on and much less appreciated by the protestors. The prime credit to the fact that we do not hold allegiance to the British monarchy (or any monarchy) should be given to the US Army. So here is the golden opportunity to acknowledge our collective debt to the US Army for the absence of kings in our national political fabric. But the “No Kings” protestors turned their backs on the institution that allows them the freedom to spout their ungrateful nonsense.

    1. I liked the history lesson. The parade showed how the soldiers have changed over 250 years. It gives children a way of understanding the number 250 years and the revolutionary soldiers. It gives a link to a standing military and the defense of a nation. It was well done regarding that.

A school district in California had to change the name of its mascot from the Minutemen to the Bears. They didn’t know what Minutemen were. It was a district of Mexican nationals majority. 😏

    2. The military is part of the people, the Executive branch, willing to serve the nation, the people for themselves and posterity.

I have heard immigrants refer to service as a job, work. I have to be at work etc. and not as having to report.

  14. Mass hysteria and stupidity, the hallmarks of today’s Democrats. Toddlers have more sense.

  15. DEar Prof Turley,

Newsom is a political hack. .. so is Kristi Noam and the Dept. of Homeland Security.

    We’re an Empire now .. . not a Monarchy.

““We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you’re studying that reality — judiciously, as you will — we’ll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that’s how things will sort out. We’re history’s actors . . . and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do.”” ~ Karl Rove, aka The Turd Blossom, circa 2001 An American Space Odessey

*what have we learned .. .

    1. Hey there, “Burn After reading,” here’s something to learn: your extreme ALARMism sounds just like the reactions of those who lived through other times of crisis, like the Civil War and the Great Depression. During those times of crisis, Abraham Lincoln did some very “creative” leadership, and FDR did a lot of it too. Ask yourself, how did things turn out? People like you went nuts, but did we end up with a Monarchy? BTW the U.S.of A. has always been an EMPIRE!

      1. The Emperor has no cloths, Dianna Bec.

Butt bare naked. Been full of crap about almost everything .. . especially war and rumors of war.

        It’s not a pretty sight.

Update. >“This is not our war,” declared Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), a Republican and one of the House’s most consistent antiwar voices. “Israel doesn’t need U.S. taxpayers’ money for defense if it already has enough to start offensive wars. I vote not to fund this war of aggression.” On social media, he polled followers on whether the U.S. should give Israel weapons to attack Iran. After 126,000 votes (and 2.5 million views), the answer was unequivocal: 85% said no.”

Note. there is a current bill before congress [redundantly] requiring congressional authorization before the Emperor commits the armed forces of the U.S. to war against Iran.

*Taken from the Hans Christian Andersen fable “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” in which a vain emperor is sold imaginary clothing (i.e., nothing at all) by two weavers who promise him that it is visible only to the wise and cannot be seen by those who are ignorant, incompetent, or unfit for their position.

        1. Holy Frijoles, snowden, not only are all the Emperors naked (vainglorious politicians all, Clinton, Bush, Obama, Biden/Harris), those watching and adoring as the emperors pass by are so brainwashed, they THINK they are seeing his fine clothes (Afghanistan withdrawal debacle, endlessly funding Zelensky). How’s that for stupid? So, which war do you like better??? The one in Ukraine? Is that one okay?
