Sex and the Cringy: Celebrities Under Fire for Making Light of Abortions

(Image: instagram/@cynthiaenixon)

Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon is back in the news for all the wrong reasons. Nixon decided to virtue signal on abortion by sending out a picture of herself lounging on a boat wearing a cap that read “Make Abortion Great Again.” In the same week, “Smile” singer Lily Allen was laughing in an interview about how she has had so many abortions that she cannot remember the precise number. It is only the latest example of how the messaging on the left could be alienating many Americans on the third anniversary of the Dobbs decision.

Nixon posted the picture on Instagram with the caption: “In addition to kicking 17 million Americans off their healthcare, Trump’s big ugly bill will strip critical funding to [Planned Parenthood] for non-abortion-related medical care.” She then added, “And of course abortion is healthcare too!” before urging her 1.7 million Instagram followers to call their representatives and tell them “to vote NO on this horrifying bill.”

Even liberals wrote in to say that the cavalier attitude was “a bit much.”

For Lily Allen, abortions are so trivial that she lost count of her own. During a recent episode of her Miss Me? Podcast, the 40-year-old singer explained that she had several abortions before finding a birth control method that worked for her: “Abortions, I’ve had a few. But then again, I can’t remember exactly how many…. I think maybe like, I wanna say five. Four or five?”

Notably, abortions are actually up since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and returned the question to the individual states to decide.

What is striking about these controversies is how they run against the narrative.

We just passed the third anniversary of Dobbs. Gallup is reporting a record gap between men and women over abortion since Dobbs:

The gap has expanded since 2022 because pro-choice identity has dipped among men, from 48% to 41%, while it has held steady among women. Currently, 32% of women and 54% of men identify as pro-life.

Similarly, there is now a record-high 17-point gap between women (57%) and men (40%) in their belief that abortion is morally acceptable and a record-high 15-point gap in women’s (56%) and men’s (41%) support for abortion being legal in all or most circumstances. These divergences are also the widest since 2022 and represent a marked change from the two decades prior to Dobbs, when women’s and men’s views were much closer.

Overall support for abortion remains strong, though it has fallen slightly since the post-Dobbs rise. What is clear is that the issue was not determinative in the last election. Democrats put a huge emphasis on abortion in the Trump-Harris election. Democrats loaded up ballots with abortion-related initiatives or referendums to bring out the vote. However, they found that pro-choice voters supported Trump in higher-than-expected numbers.

Making light of abortions is unlikely to change that trajectory in the polls, but Democrats continue to struggle with media being driven by figures on their far left going into the critical midterm elections.

With the anniversary of Dobbs, there is no suggestion that the Court will reconsider its ruling or that the Court is expected to change anytime soon. In the meantime, in Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, the Court has allowed states to defund Planned Parenthood, which receives a significant amount of its money from the federal and state governments.

  1. *. The Medina opinion simply points out that prenatal services will be provided by medicaid in general as planned parenthood is defended by the State because South Carolina has abortion restrictions and public money.

Planned parenthood itself is most like a specialty doctor or clinic. Its specialty is pregnancy and associated illnesses, diseases, and preventive care.

Let’s say there’s a specialty group in dentistry and two doctors do fillings only. The group decides to delete fillings only as a specialty. The clients needing only fillings are absorbed by the other doctors who are also qualified to do that work.

The dental specialty group continues to bill the State for medicaid dentistry done and the feds continue to send 57% to the States as usual.

The loss is to a group , a medicaid group, for costs no longer covered under State law and cannot be recovered from the federal government. There aren’t 17 million abortions per year.

The impact to women are mainly restricted to females receiving medicaid. The consequence is more children will be born into poverty, pregnant females will order mifepristone from other States at their own cost.

Have abortions increased since Dobbs? Accurate reporting is suspect. California provides no information regarding abortions to any national centers.

During the mifepristone controversy data collected showed the females with abortion were ages 17-40, unmarried and race and econ status were also provided. There was not and is not any information regarding male inseminators gathered. Men really have nothing to do with practiced abortion but apparently have a vote.

Mifepristone does make it easier for minors to obtain abortions and it increases the ability of pedophiles to hide. There is no longer an office visit required nor follow up visit as appropriate, safe healthcare delivery.

These in your face asses with hats? They’re simply asses. They pay for abortions and don’t need medicaid apparently. Their children are in private schools.

    1. *. If I had to contribute a piece of emotionally charged propaganda, I’d choose the abortion scene between Kay and Michael, Godfather Part II. I’m not clever enough to provide a link.

There is the story of the Indiana 10 year old touted by Joe Biden who had to travel to a neighboring State for an abortion. It was hushed once the pedophile was noted as an illegal migrant and the mother said he’d done nothing wrong implying he was living with them and paid the rent for perks. The world of sex crimes—-today, mom can just order mifepristone without the cumbersome travel. The child remains in mom’s custody.

I’ll stick with the Godfather’s propaganda. Sick humor but it’s there.

For some on scotus poor women don’t have equal protection as rich women in access to abortion. Women in poverty have more children in poverty and greater difficulty in economic progress. Sum of it.

Does the State have a right to impose morality? It’s determined theft of private property is a crime. Is that a morality question? In some case
( I can’t recall) scotus opinion said pregnancy is not a disability covered by health insurance as job related? Pregnancy leave without pay is a law. Pete got time off for maternity leave having to with basic childcare. There’s a case here somewhere.. .

      1. * . The United States is not a theocracy and its origin is British and not Roman nor middle eastern and here in this issue of abortion there is the reason for 1A and the reason it’s written. The political system is democratic. People cannot force an individual into an abortion nor force an individual to abstain based on religious beliefs.

Ayotollahs and Popes and sharia are impossible political systems in the US because of 1A. This is pro choice currently. It’s doubtful the abortion laws in some States are constitutional.

        1. You are correct, we cannot force personal beliefs on anyone, but without a cultural core to bind us as a society, we will become more fragmented and it will become more difficult to govern such a radically different group of ideologies and we will continue to fragment to a point of anarchy.

        2. ^^^^. It’s called – overreach. Abortion and miscarriage , premature birth definitions are set by ” the breath of life” and not “conception”. The cut off line is actually lung development or cardiopulmonary development. In simple, can the child be handed to another for nurture after birth. Viability.

If the definition needs change to conception for purposes of homicide law then that change is done first. Embryo banks are then illegal as embryos are homicides when discarded. Artificial insemination and surrogacy are also ended which isn’t a bad thing necessarily.

Current law is the breath of life. A 5 month old fetus does inhale and exhale.

It’s government overreach if religion used or breath of life isn’t used for non religious.

Understand? Dreams of theocracies will be fulfilled in the afterlife. Welcome to the United States.

          1. At 5 months the child receives life support in developed nations. In 3rd worlds 5 months receives none and is considered a miscarriage and not a live birth.

      2. (Does the State have a right to impose morality? ) No, a state cannot impose morality unless it is a theocracy. What we have here is a lack of a sense of common, agreed up cultural norms that are a necessity for a functioning society. What multiculturalism and atheism do is to create a subjective notion of morality that allows for anything from heterosexual marriage to drag queens grooming children and medical procedures to mutilate children for the current fad of transsexualism. A nation without a strong moral core of some sore will soon fragment and decline – as we see this now

This is nothing that the courts can correct, the ideology of the progs that has indoctrinated a good portion of our society and made a common core impossible and we can do little at this time to correct this by simple means.

    2. Point: Medicaid is unconstitutional and entirely bereft of any legal basis or supporting citable passage in fundamental law. Just as Roe v. Wade was unconstitutional for 50 years and ultimately struck down, so must be the commandeering as arbitrary charity of so-called Medicaid. Please do cite any empirical legal foundation and authority for Medicaid.

      1. Compassion? Conscience? That’s not really a legal authority is it…cruelty to animals? That’s a law?

      2. Perhaps it’s part of the CDCs mission? Preventing the spread of communicable diseases is lawful. I have no citation because I’m lazy or tired.

      3. True but the CDC is law to prevent disease spread. AFDC is unconstitutional unless widow or widower.

The reason is the public is not responsible to aid financially for otherwise absent parents thus marriage laws designate financial responsibility and parentage. Divorced doesn’t qualify and absent parent can be jailed. Fyi

      4. In the US no one cares if you’re in luv. They care about their wallets and keep your fingers out of mine. Sensible…

  2. I am of mixed opinion. The future derives no benefit from the continuation of their DNA or inherited worldview. If the Left is exterminating itself, it does not follow that this should be interrupted.

    1. * Wars were the doomsayer of western civilization… Putin is still exterminating the marvelous Russian DNA.

  3. ‘Democrats continue to struggle with media being driven by figures on their far left going into the critical midterm elections.’

Uh . . . so, in other words: Democrats. There is no center on the left in 2025. Zip, zilch, nada.

Benefit of the doubt: those that might remain (and it sure doesn’t appear to be many) are too chicken, asleep, or Trump deranged to assert themselves. None of those qualities are good, either.

  4. I have trouble remembering back 72 years but when I was 3 I am sure I wanted attention. It seems to me that a lot of this, especially from so called influencers or celebrities, is the continued desire for attention. They have not grown up. To me it is a sad reflection on our child rearing or lack there of. Even more so that society continues to put these people front and center as people to look up to. Fortunately my children understand the difference between love and attention.

  5. Saw this on another site: “At bottom, capital punishment is the legalized killing of the guilty; abortion is the legalized killing of the innocent.” Let that sink in for a moment….

  6. Newsflash for magats: the Dobbs decision is really unpopular and the world is happy we’re one day closer to your not being here.

  7. I don’t derive any of my moral values from anyone in Hollywood or the entertainment industry. Hollywood and its subcuture implants in other areas of the country are sick. I understand people have differing views on abortion but it is no longer a judicial fiat and can be decided by each state.
It should never be trivialized because it is destroying life. People have grown cavalier about abortion because it’s not their existence that is ended. It’s the fetus that dies and it does die because it was alive once conception occurred but the fetus has no vote in abortion though it is it’s life that is ended.. You really could make a case that unless it’s your own life you technically have no skin in the game.
Unless a person has end stage medical issues with a great deal of poorly controlled pain or they are suicidal because of mental illness, they will cling to life with a tenacity that is unrelenting and awesome in it’s scope. Maybe we should accord the fetus that same respect.
I have no argument with abortion to protect a mother’s life, or rape, or incest or fetal demise or conditions that will cause death of the fetus upon birth. You have to chose between bad outcomes either way but it should never be trivialized.
The fetus does not get a second showing of their life, or a curtain call, of get written back into the script by a miraculous event (conceived in the screenwriters head).
Life is precious and has purpose and hope and accomplishment ahead. There are trivial people but life is anything but trivial.

  8. What’s interesting is that I’m pretty sure that cynthia nixon came out as gay/lesbian a few years ago. I’m trying to figure out if 2+2=4 here….

    1. @Anonymous

That is correct. I wonder how she’d justify it in a donor/surrogate scenario where the intent was 100% very much to have a child. I’ll bet pregnancy complications would be heartbreaking in their circumstances.

Going to guess neither she nor her wife spend a whole lot of time inserting male body parts. It’s the kind of logic that isn’t, it’s a sure tell there’s not much critical thought going on, and it’s pretty much representational at this point.

      1. ‘I’ll bet pregnancy complications would be heartbreaking in their circumstances, *too*.’

        Dropped a word.

  9. Professor Turley writes, “However, they found that pro-choice voters supported Trump in higher-than-expected numbers.”

Most Americans support pre-natal abortions, but most Americans are against post-natal abortions (murder homicides).

Democrats acted as if they were delighted with both kinds of abortion, so they lost. That’s not surprising to me.

    1. @Diogenes

You might or might not be surprised by how many dems honestly believe postnatal was (along with so many issues) a lie, not happening, never proposed. The levels of denial and willingness to be gaslit with some folks can be preternatural. But – hey! Modern leftism is absolutely NOT a cult. 🙄🙄😂

      1. James, I was being somewhat facetious, conflating homicides in general with post-natal abortions. It was a remark about the crime rate under Democrats, but I knew a lot of people like yourself would see the same statement as true of post-natal abortions specifically, and that interpretation is just as true.

  10. once the progs had removed religion and its objective moral code from the public discourse, they replaced in with the mantra of the “subjective morality” of the individual the results are women who wantonly kill babies and men who father children with abandonment. And this is just once small slice of the moral rot indoctrinated in to so many minds through our media/education industry. A culture cannot endure today any more than Rome could when it lost its original culture and allowed in all the various cultures of the groups that became a part of the Roman empire. Multiculturalism and/or subjective morality are major moves towards societal collapse and I need offer no more proof than the nightly news, the entertainment industry and corruption within the government to illustrate this truth.

    1. “. . . religion and its objective moral code . . .”

Since when is the mystical “objective?”

        1. Sam is a dinosaur of an atheist, the Madalyn Murray O’Hair kind that has, well, deceased. Sam has tried to convince everyone that 1000 years of history is to be forgotten, what he terms the “Dark Ages”, because nothing good ever happened….in those 1000 years. Of course, the 20th century saw >100 million people murdered under atheist tyrants (e.g. Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, et al), far surpassing all of the number of murders in the previous centuries combined. So yeah, 500-1500 AD were “dark”!!!! But the killing of >100 million people by atheists, bright indeed!!!! They were as bright as Sam’s vapid post-modernist, self-referrential, cynicism. Like the rest of us, Sam will be dead eventually, but Christianity will continue, leaving the dead to bury the dead.

NB: Madalyn Murray’s son, William J. Murray III, became a Baptist minister

Learning of his conversion, his mother commented: “One could call this a postnatal abortion on the part of a mother, I guess; I repudiate him entirely and completely for now and all times. He is beyond human forgiveness.”[7]

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_J._Murray

          Athestists are lovely people, no?

          1. “Sam has tried to convince everyone that 1000 years of history is to be forgotten . . .”

That’s a howler. It’s you (and your fellow evaders) who keep ignoring the barbaric history of your ideology — the Dark Ages. Accusing others of doing what you yourself are doing. That sounds familiar.

And to perpetuate that evasion, you use the Left’s two favorite tricks of deception, deflection (but, but the communists). And smears: “Sam’s vapid post-modernist . . .”

If you actually knew anything about post-Modernism, and were intellectually honest, you’d know that I am the antithesis of a post-Modernist.

        2. “You truly do not have a clue, do you?”

Your religious intellectuals have for centuries claimed that morality is mystical — not objective. You might want to read, and understand, one of your chief mystics, Augustine.

It is certainly true that one of us is clueless.

  11. This nation is under condemnation for the “secret murder of the saints” (children).

  12. To bad their parents didn’t feel the same about abortion, it would have eliminated the concerns of these celebrities.

  13. Globalists/democrats wish to destory western society. Illegals, lgbtq+, war, hate, debt

    1. And the reason is that you cannot subjugate armed and informed people to get in to the boxcar.

  14. “If abortion is healthcare, what is the medical condition it is supposed to be treating?”

    1. The “burden” of evidence a social inconvenience.

      Also, #HateLovesAbortion a psychiatric condition.

One-child. Selective-child. Life deemed unworthy of life an ideological pathology.

Human rites are historically and in the modern family performed for social, clinical, criminal, political, and climate progress.

Keep women affordable, available, reusable, and taxable is the State’s Choice.

The only rational exceptions are self-defense and rape (within six weeks of conception) where involuntary exploitation (e.g. slavery) has been banned. Otherwise, there is no mystery in sex and conception, it’s her and his, a couple’s choice.

      1. (Keep women affordable, available, reusable, and taxable is the State’s Choice.) The real con job was convincing women that they were not fulfilled unless they had a career separate from the role of wife and mother. And many, not all, were convinced by an endless stream of indoctrination from the media/education industry and PSAs that proclaimed the value of a college education in order to “find your place” in the universe – so to speak.

    2. Sometimes abortion via a D&C is needed during a natural miscarriage to prevent sepsis. In Texas that’s an issue for women as law is so rigid, doctors won’t perform the D&C until woman has sepsis and then death may quickly occur.
I didn’t know this until I read a recent article about this issue which Texas is trying to fix.

      1. Then it really isn’t an abortion, per se, as the fetus is dead and there is no life to take. That is a silly law that women should protest.

      2. Texas law clearly allows a D&C after a miscarriage. So, how did women end up being denied one? Confusion about the law. And what caused that confusion? Democrats. They spread fear and misinformation on purpose or through ignorance, leaving physicians to hesitate. That hesitation may have cost lives.

    1. No snark intended but I think as more and more young men are opting entirety out of the relationship and dating scene it’s just a non issue for them.

      1. currentsitguy,
The Free Press had an article about why men were opting out of dating. There is two trends in the dating scene, 1) The three sixes. The guy has to make at least six figures, be at least six feet tall, and have six inches down there. The 2) Not only is the guy expected to pay for dinner, but pay for the woman to get her hair done, her nails done, and if she has to take a Uber to and from the restaurant he has to pay for that too.
Read a separate article where a woman influencer paid for a AI bot that would send texts, pictures to paying subscribers. The subscription was $20 a month. She had over a 1,000 paying subscribers in the first month and another 1,500 on a waiting list. She had to lease more server space/capacity.

        1. “The three sixes.”

And a fourth six, based on the first three: A marriage that will last only six months.

        2. @Upstate

Yup. If I were dating today, I’d likely throw in the towel too. It was bad enough when I was dating around 15 years ago, today – forget it.

Also, as you elucidated it so well: so much for feminism! 😂 The suffragists are all turning in their graves at these modern day shrews. No offense to the conscientious women out there.

        3. A lack of values leads to the three sixes: six feet, six figures, six inches. If that’s what you’re chasing, you’re already lost. Choose a mate for their values, not vanity.

      2. As the mother of 2 sons, I have seen what these narcissistic Liliths can do to a man’s sense of self, his soul and his pocket. Both of my sons are now single having shed themselves of such vixens and live alone rather than pair up with women who only worry about themselves and have no clue as to how to be a life partner, a wife and a mother.

    2. I don’t think so. It is evil that women, who were created to be mothers, are supporting murder of babies in such high numbers. Who raised these people?

  15. When the taking of a life through any means (war, murder, abortion) becomes trivial, we, as a species capable of consciousness, are on a slippery slope to Hell.

    1. Humans have always been on the slippery slope to hell. That is why Christ came…

  16. If true, this is sick and demented. No personal responsibility. If false, this is sick and demented. Hopefully, only post menopausal women will find this person inspiring.
