The Three Rs: Clinton and Weingarten Return to Republicans, Rage, and Recrimination

Many people are calling out former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for a posting supporting American Federation of Teachers (AFT) chief Randi Weingarten’s new book in which she paints her political opponents as “fascists.” The timing was flagged as, at best, tone deaf in the wake of the assassination of Charlie Kirk by a shooter who wrote fascist references on his bullets and was clearly radicalized by such rage rhetoric. For me, the timing was most notable in how Weingarten and Clinton are again pushing their extreme rhetoric as a new report emerged showing the utter failure of our schools to actually educate our children. Weingarten and Clinton cannot be bothered by the long-standing declines in education. They are returning to the three Rs: Republicans, Rage, and Recrimination.

Weingarten is “credited” with turning the teacher’s union into an extension of the Democratic Party, often appearing at political rallies with her signature high-volume screeds:

Clinton pushed the use of education to paint opponents as fascists: “Congratulations to my friend [Weingarten] on ‘Why Fascists Fear Teachers.’ From banning books to controlling curriculum, authoritarians go after public education because it’s a cornerstone of democracy.”

Schools have become the cornerstone of a political strategy as opposed to actual education. As Weingarten and Clinton were pushing the fascism attacks, a new study showed just how badly teacher’s unions and administrators have failed our students.

While Weingarten and other unions have poured millions into democratic  and liberal campaigns, they have done little to improve education for millions of students.

  1. It’s surprising how tone-death (lol) Turley seems, or maybe he’s just getting around criticizing Trump and his administration to protect himself from Trump’s mad censorship urges of anyone who criticizes him. Republicans have been criminializing criticism ever since Charlie Kirk got a shot. His wife begging for funds for TPUSA using her husbands barely cold body is a strange way to mourn. I didn’t know grifting was part of the grieving process.

Republicans have been white-knuckling their pearls at nearly anything mocking or Kirk or quoting his racist and bigoted comments from his past, and using it as an opportunity to engage in cancel culture before the shock of the news wears off. Such a respectful way to honor Kirk’s legacy of championing free speech. Wow.

On the Clinto issue the unfortunate reality is that Clinton is right about Republicans adopting a form of American fascism. Ironically, fascists often accuse others of being fascists to defend themselves against the accusation. Blaming education for the dastardly act of teaching students how to recognize multiple political ideologies so they can determine for themselves if they agree or not is apparenttly very scary for fascists. Blaming teachers for students’ poor performance is absurd. Turley, being a professor, should understand that if his students don’t meet his expectations, that doesn’t mean he did a poor job. Not all students learn or perform the same way. We wouldn’t know how he grades his students since he likely relies on assistant professors and aides to help manage his classes. If we looked at the performance of his students, we might find similar performance results. Should professor Turley be solely to blame for it? According to him we should. But we will never know because he would never make his stats available to the public. Teaching elementary school is a lot harder than teaching college. It’s easy to criticize from his lofty perch it seems.

The reported low test scores of 31%, 20%, and so on reflect only a portion of students—less than half, in fact. Teachers have been voicing their concerns about lacking resources, school supplies, and support from school administrations. They also have to handle the fierce competition from the internet and social media, as well as ongoing attacks against LGBTQ and transgender students from conservatives. Instead of providing real solutions, conservatives simply push their political views and moral standards on everyone who doesn’t agree with them while blaming the left and Democrats. Their solutions have been more bibles and prayers. That didn’t help Kirk one bit.

This discussion is actually diverting attention from a bigger issue happening right now. Trump is openly pressuring private companies to censor free speech. Just a short while ago, Republicans were losing their minds when Biden’s administration was suggesting companies like Facebook or Twitter to take a look at people spreading lies, misinformation and hate speech; the Supreme Court even confirmed that Biden’s presssuring these companies was not illegal because they wer only suggesting it. Now, with Trump admitting to directly coercing and openly talking about shutting down tv shows and using the FCC to threaten mergers to coerce companies to censor speech is ok with Repbublicans perhaps Turley since he has not said a word about it. Republicans don’t seem the least bit bothered by the sheer hypocricy they are engaging in, probably because they don’t really care. Which is odd because that is how fascists operate. Irony or just plain old willful ignorance because they are not the targets? Says a lot about how they respect principles doesn’t it?

      1. george’s tactics are precisely like gigi’s. Once he is criticized on the merits of his claims, he resorts to feelings of superiority that justify his attacking of everyone, including his host. As more people see through him, the more he resorts to sarcasm, ridicule, and condescension

    1. Wait — wasn’t Charlie Kirk romantically involved with Candace Owens as a younger guy? Oh oh…there goes the racist accusation.

The fact is that progressives and black suprememcists perceive postracials as “racists” because we DON’T pay attention to racial identity. How’s that for irony?

        1. Dustoff, DON’T say that. Do you know what liberal progressives do when they hear that? They kill people.

      1. I’d be more interested in your reaction to what the guy said, and the clip of Charlie arguing against racism. Do you have any thoughts on that?

        1. Your assumption is that a racist cannot argue against racism. You know who also said he wasn’t racist: Strom Thurmond.

          1. No I never assumed that at all. Your “logic” is that any Republican who argues against racism is racist. That’s patently absurd.

I doubt you watched the video I linked to. It’s not that Charlie is arguing against racism, he’s vehemently dismantling it with obvious gusto. Any fair observer of what he said knows he means it when he argues against racism. You either didn’t observe what I linked to, and are commenting on it anyway, or you’re not a fair observer. Either way, you are not to be taken seriously. No wonder you post your garbage anonymously.

          2. Thurmond was a racial separatist…he believed that black and white communities would both thrive better separated. That’s viewpoint is a relic of the past, but it’s not quite the same as a white supremacist, because Thurmond was concerned with the well-being of the blacks in his state. For instance, there was evidence that blacks learned better in all black schools (that were equally funded with white schools) compared to mixed schools.

    1. oldman,

Charlie realized that directly stating a belief in race and racism would expose his clearly racist beliefs. He said that to give exactly the cover you are now using.

He’s wearing sheep’s clothing to disguise that he said he worried about a pilot’s qualifications if they were Black.

He knew what would happen if he said race was real and white people are better than brown people. Did Charlie Kirk go with his “Change My Mind” tour to any HBCUs? Not as far as I can tell. He didn’t reach out to Black institutions.

Instead, the HBCUs got a lot of death threats after Kirk was killed. Because that’s what enough of Kirk’s followers think.

      1. Dear anonymous left-wing troll: this is the exact kind of garbage I figured you idiots would spew in reaction to undeniable proof that Charlie not only wasn’t a racist, he railed more than anyone else against racism and even went to lengths to prove that the whole concept of “race” has no biological foundation but is a social construct.

Your reaction: if he says that stuff it only proves he’s a racist.

What a joke! Do you even realize how utterly stupid and ridiculous you sound to everyone outside your silly little left-wing echo chamber?

      2. ATS – yes we all know that left wing idiots believe that Republicans speak in code to their stupid redneck followers who clearly do not have the brain cells to understand the code – but at the same time – left wing nuts are completely capable of understanding that coded language.

Have you idiots ever heard of LOGIC.

  2. Dear Kash Patel & AG Pam Bondi,
When are you going to arrest the seditious corrupt conspirators? America is waiting, please don’t let us down. America needs accountability now more than ever, full steam ahead and damn the torpedoes.
    Prove me wrong!

  3. HRC’s unending search for relevance: she had one dream, and won’t accept that it will never come true. Instead, she denigrates those whom she holds responsible for her dream’s failure. Someday, perhaps she will regret that she didn’t pivot to focusing on her family.

  4. The swift deflection of Democrats going off-topic back to Jimmy Kimmel and free speech is another exasperating reminder that Trump, Bondi, et al have never lost their ability to, while winning and delivering on so many fronts, take time to step on their dick while carefully taking aim and shooting themselves through that foot. Doing so because they felt a need to publicly troll and goad their political enemies in the DNC and news media (but I repeat myself). And in doing so, helpfully provide their enemies with a basis for a line of attack at a time where they have so little else to attack with.

With today’s deflection off topic to free speech: What did Trump accomplish with American voters by saying he would like to see his FCC strip critical networks of their license to broadcast because of the lies they broadcast i.e. “Kirk’s murderer was a MAGA”. And Bondi saying she was going to launch the DoJ at those engaging in free hate speech? Or FCC Chairman Carr, trolling Brian Stelter and saying these networks could be stripped of their licenses?

It makes no difference there is no evidence of Trump issuing orders for his administration to make that happen, Bondi directing federal agents to open criminal investigations of Kimmel or anyone else, or Carr and the FCC starting any proceedings towards any of these networks. That is irrelevant as far as providing Democrats with a subject to attack with.

All of this Democrat hatred, lies and slime directed towards a murder victim IS free speech. Bondi as AG knows very well that “hate speech” is not criminal speech to incite violence. Surely Trump has at least one advisor telling him it’s a very bad idea to publicly troll the media with threats he might strip networks of their licenses.

So now the Democrats who are losing on pretty much every front have a line of attack to use – handed to them for free by Trump, Bondi, Carr et al, who must have been getting tired of winning so easily that they felt a need to make it a more fair fight.

So many American voters (despite whatever their political party affiliation) are all on board with the 80-20 issues Trump is succeeding on. Over the last week they’ve been appalled to see, read and hear the vile Democrat Free Hate Speech justifying Kirk’s murder, smearing and defaming him as a racist, bigot, and Nazi.

So when Trump is increasing support and winning in so many areas – WTF is the genius idea of deciding to hand the Democrats an attack line: that he’s going to use government to shut down networks he doesn’t like and prosecute hate speech he doesn’t like. He has a guarantee that the midterm election is already won, and he’ll in an increase the Republican majority in the House and Senate?

It’s moments like this that just leave me shaking my head.

    1. No one ever accused Trump of being very smart (except for DJT of course). His acolytes are simply spouting what they believe he would say. When it comes to politics neither Democrats nor Republicans give a rat’s rectum about the Constitution.

      1. “No one ever accused Trump of being very smart (except for DJT of course).”

Not a lot of wind to fill the sails of your false flag warship these days.

Name a Democrat (or even a fraudulent independent/libertarian) with even a low level of intelligence who is smart enough to realize that Trump is president precisely because he’s smarter than those who worked together to prevent him becoming president: Obama, Clinton, Comey, Brennan, Clapper, Mueller, Biden, et al.

    2. Project 2025 is all about eliminating the need to appeal to voters; to allow voters to have any useful say in the running of the government. It doesn’t matter who Trump alienates now as long as the backers of Project 2025 get the iron fist control of all aspects of American life.

Look at all the American farmers facing bankruptcy because of Trump’s trade war. Doesn’t matter – JD Vance is partner to a company that buys farmland to lease back to farmers. Project 2025 shows all the dots and the dots are numbered. Reasonable people connected them to see the picture and voted for Harris. Those who didn’t voted for Trump.

      1. “Project 2025 is all about eliminating the need to appeal to voters… Reasonable people connected them to see the picture and voted for Harris.”

You think you can still win the 2024 election last year by continuing Harris’s claim that “Project 2025” is part of the Trump/GOP election campaign platform?

And reasonable people decided that the DEI Hire Border Czar was qualified to be president! Because she assured them that The Oval Office House Plant she claimed to see almost every day was mentally as sharp as a tack?

Not to mention how she showcased her talent and ability with her success at stopping the invasion of about 15 MILLION Illegal Aliens as the Border Czar-President In Waiting?

You keep running with that – right through the mid-terms. Make sure you pick up the DEI Hire as your candidate for the next presidential election as well! She can once again run on her competency and track record!

After all, she’s got a brown vagina: and that’s what’s most important!

    3. It can be proved at this point that media is terrorist. Screaming histrionics get screaming histrionics elected. Did anyone listen to tlaib? You’re worried about education another terrorist organization?

  5. Some politicians think that words work like magic spells – if you say the words over and over the right way the connection between the words and reality is irrelevant and you will get the result you desire. They are like the rats given treats randomly that keep pushing the lever without stopping because it works just often enough to give them hope.

Only the stupid and the lazy fall for these witches spells. It may be a disappointingly large number of people but it isn’t all people and there is always the possibility that over time more people will pay attention and recognize their tormentors.

    1. Yup, fascists who believe in: a less powerful central government, freedom of speech, dismantling the government-media censorship complex, religious freedom, tailoring back on unnecessary regulations choking businesses, free and fair elections with election integrity, and the rule of law.

If MAGAS are fascists, they’re the worst at it the world has ever seen.

    2. You need a remedial history class. The fascists were full on socialists. Fascism was created by a split in the Italian Socialist party and the split was over foreign policy not domestic socialist structure.

  6. The philosopher Hobbes emphasized the political importance of controlling language. If you monopolize the use of words like “democracy” and “fascist”, you can engage in undemocratic or even fascistic behavior without someone applying those labels to you.

  7. Really – I do not ascribe the world ‘evil’ to anyone lightly, but Hillary (and Nancy) fit the bill. I don’t even know who she thinks she’s talking to anymore. I look forward to the day when the Clintons’0, and their Soros DNC’s, time in the spotlight is something we look back on and sigh.

And Weingarten is delusional if she thinks most of us don’t see exactly who she is and what she has done, but that is the classic American democrat disdain for the intelligence of people they don’t see at their country clubs, and it’s nothing new. I’m sure the tens of copies of her book she *legitimately* sells will enjoy the dust that settles on them. Vile is too good a word for these actors.

    1. Won’t be surprised if Randi Weingarten’s book (Why Fascists Fear Teachers), like Saul Alinsky’s book (Rules for Radicals) will be on the American Federation of Teachers Union top 10 book list.

  8. Nice. Keep it up dems American is going to turn against you.

But if it’s George Floyd —– No problem.

  9. *. Weingarten is an example of HPD, histrionic personality disorder. After the display the rational action is to replace her.

The percentages given for test scores can be a general handprint and not much else. Perhaps 36% of pupils have the necessary intelligence to score on or above grade level standards.

The interjection of “minority” showing less than proficient scores would by necessity require sub information of percentages meeting proficiency. It’s doubtful all 36% were white showing white supremacy in school test scores.

Most likely the scores are skewed by English language proficiency when pupils aren’t proficient in primary nor secondary language. It doesn’t matter in such cases if tests are administered in either language.

If the primary language is Korean, the child speaks Korean at home, lives in Korea town, it’s difficult to teach in any language other than Korean. Presumably there are Korean speaking school districts?

This of course brings in citizenship and the requested of English proficiency of the applicant. The understanding the primary language of American citizens is English is known. There isn’t a reason to speak any other language in American schools nor test in other languages. Presumably education, tests are endeavors of citizens?

It’s difficult to migrate without any intention of citizenship. Classes in English after school, nights and online should be bursting with registration? Is that happening?

I don’t think the test scores mean anything except a basic break down of basic intelligence and English proficiency. Accept the scores, identify the problem and pragmatically work on without undue burden on schools and taxes. It’s not FREE.

    1. “Most likely the scores are skewed by English language proficiency when pupils aren’t proficient in primary nor secondary language. It doesn’t matter in such cases if tests are administered in either language. Really???? The last thing you want to do before going on a rant against non-white legal immigrants like Koreans, Japanese, Chinese, Indians is to compare their children’s education scores against the children of you and I Pure Blood white Americans born here. (And definitely NOT against the children of those American Democrat children trapped in the inner cities of Democrat cities like Chicago, Baltimore, etc).

Explaining Asian Americans’ academic advantage over whites
      https://www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.1406402111
We find that the Asian-American educational advantage over whites is attributable mainly to Asian students exerting greater academic effort and not to advantages in tested cognitive abilities or socio-demographics. We test explanations for the Asian–white gap in academic effort and find that the gap can be further attributed to (i) cultural differences in beliefs regarding the connection between effort and achievement and (ii) immigration status.

      1. Public ed is general. There aren’t any psych work ups per pupil? Asians most likely have their own DNA and a fundamental way of thinking. Ever see the origami? Ever see the written language? Try it.

        Details. Every jot and tittle.

      2. Anon, like your comment 😂 I randomly chose Korean. Figured their feewings wouldn’t be hewrted.

Asians evolved in isolation thus the great wall. Effort or industriousness is an instinct some have showing as effort. It’s seen as a virtue or a good, a gift. Presumably it’s genetic. There are people without that gift. Education must work for them, too. What motivates a non-industrious person? When the goal has been identified tie the goal to another virtue they do have or vices work well, too, but not recommended.

Industriousness untied to good will is not desirable.

        You are presumptuous? 😂

    2. *. Requested wah wah. Requisite, prerequisite

Education is an industry and consuming more of your money is a duty. Seize the means of production?

I didn’t listen to the hysteria of Ms Weingarten. I don’t need anymore crazy. I’m all stocked up.

      1. Agreed! Trump has saved the day again! Obama and Biden used the money in the Title programs to dictate to the schools their social teachings! With the money threatened to go to the states the feds can quit dictating the social teaching programs! The states and local government should be able to handle it I believe that JFK was totally against the title programs and wanted just to go into the inner cities with money to improve their educational opportunities. In fact there is an old conspiracy theory that that is why he was killed. He went against those who got him elected. But Trump’s original plan has been almost thwarted! I guess there is a lot of money in controlling the education of American children!

  10. OT:How Israel Helped the Gaza Strip Before October 7, 2023
    by Khaled Abu Toameh
    September 16, 2025 at 5:00 am

Which European country would tolerate 50,000 rockets, mortars and missiles fired at it — or even one rocket or missile?

Before the October 7, 2023 attack…. Egypt, Qatar, the United Nations and other international parties kept assuring Israel that the best way to achieve calm and stability in the Gaza Strip was by improving its economy and issuing more permits for Palestinian laborers to enter Israel.

When Israel imposed restrictions on the Gaza Strip to protect its own citizens and prevent terrorism, it was condemned for imposing suffering and pain on the Palestinians living there. When Israel started easing restrictions and handing out thousands of permits to Gazan workers to enter Israel (while Egypt and other Arab countries refused to accept Palestinians), it faced criticism for allegedly strengthening Hamas.

When Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip in 2005, there was a lot of talk in Israel about turning the enclave into the “Singapore of the Middle East.” Israel’s goal, or dream, was to transform the Gaza Strip into a prosperous, thriving area, similar to how Singapore developed from a small, poor country into a wealthy, technologically advanced hub. Israel clearly wanted to open a new chapter in its relations with the Palestinians of the Gaza Strip and work together on economic and technology projects for the benefit of both people.

Israel had been led to believe that jobs, money and humanitarian aid would bring stability and calm, and had hoped that the humanitarian and economic aid would prevent, or at least reduce, terror attacks from the Gaza Strip. However, Hamas and many Palestinians viewed these conciliatory measures as signs of weakness on the part of Israel.

What the international community fails to understand is that since the establishment of Hamas more than 35 years ago, its stated goal has been the elimination of Israel. For Hamas, the conflict with Israel has never been about the economy or settlements or improving the living conditions of the Palestinians. Hamas regards Israel as one big illegitimate “settlement” that needs to be uprooted and replaced with an Islamist state.

Israel is damned both for helping the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and damned for not helping them enough. When Israel allows funding and economic aid sent into Gaza, as it did, Israel is blamed for helping fund Hamas’s war against Israel. If Israel had refused to allow funding and economic aid to be sent into Gaza, Israel would be accused of starving and brutalizing the Palestinians. Everyone, it seems, wants to have it both ways so that whatever Israel does is “wrong.”

  11. Talk about tone-deaf. Here you are – a fierce defender of the First Amendment – willfully ignoring comments made by the President of the United States saying that any TV show that is hypercritical of him should lose their license – the day after a late night comedian was pulled off the air for making derogatory comments about the GOP. If you truly believed in Charlie Kirk’s view on freedom of speech, you’d be denouncing Trump and Brenden Carr. But you don’t have the guts to tell your readers the truth. You just keep running to your safe space and you actually pour more gas on the rage fire – warming your hands (and your wallet) on the profit it brings you. If any Democrat had tried something like this, you would have written 25 consecutive blog posts and another book on it….

    1. Kimmel did not get fired for derogatory comments about Republicans. He got fired by the company for spreading clearly false information, aka lies, about the assassin. The company and the CEO did that all by their own.

      1. Kimmel hasn’t been fired. That was another Trump lie.

And no, Nexstar pre-empted his show for its ABC affiliates mere hours after Carr said, “We can do this the easy way or the hard way….”

Clearly a threat, which was verified by Trump’s own words. He literally said that FCC licenses should be revoked when late night hosts criticize him.

Here’s the Fox News version of events: https://www.foxnews.com/media/trump-hits-abc-nbc-fake-news-says-hed-support-fcc-revoking-licenses

Where are you getting your news from?

      2. USF
Reportedly, Kimmel purposely violated the conditions of the FCC licensure conditions. The networks and their affiliates immediately responded by removing (canceling) his show as the FCC Chairman called it to their attention. The condition is to operate in the best interests of the public and by Kimmel promoting a false narrative by falsely identifying the party affiliation of the person responsible for poor Charlie’s murder as an attempt to make a political gain was a clear violation. Kimmels ratings were already tanking so it would not surprise me if this was executed as a purposeful act so that it may in itself could be spun as Trump Derangement Dictator syndrome. These are some sick Fks we’re dealing with here. Remember this was within days of Kirk’s murder. I honestly don’t know how these people look in the mirror, soulless vessels never to be filled.

      3. Kimmel said not one word about the assassin. His comments were about MAGA and the President and both comments were 100% true. The company and CEO only acted after the merger was threatened by the administration.

  12. Clinton commenting on Republicans, conservatives, “fascists” as she calls them, banning books? What of the demands to ban The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Of Mice and Men, To Kill a Mockingbird, certain Dr. Seuss books, probably Gone With The Wind (certainly there was discussion of banning the film), for “racist” language and images? The same applies to various movies and cartoons. Banning the Harry Potter series, and books by Sherman Alexie, Junot Diaz, Andy Ngo and Woody Allen, because of the authors’ personal behavior or statements on social issues (Potter author J.K. Rowling’s statements on transgender issues), unrelated to their books’ subjects, content and language? And doubtless others.

Note to Professor Turley: you forgot Clinton’s favorite R: The Russians! After all, they and only they are to blame for her 2016 loss – despite that popular-vote win.

  13. “The problem is that Johnny doesn’t know what thinking is because thinking is so often confused with feeling…” Dr. Thomas Sowell, 1993

There is absolutely nothing new in how badly the American educational system has been abusing and failing to educate students in the public school system, at least since the 1990’s when Bill Clinton was president. Particularly in Democrat controlled utopias like Illinois, Washington DC, Maryland, etc. National student achievement assessments have been on a downhill bobsled ride for 30 years now; there is absolutely nothing new to see here, including the excuses being made by those primarily responsible.

The unionized Democrat school systems are particularly bad in the overwhelmingly black inner cities like Chicago that there are long waiting lists of black parents desperate to get their children out of the Democrats’ unionized political public school system into whatever charter schools are available. While they are doing that, teachers’ unions and Democrats do everything they can to suppress and repress alternatives to the public school system and ensure only THEIR schools are available. A captive audience of children, sentenced to an education worse than in many third world countries.

Writers like Dr. Thomas Sowell have been documented this abuse of American students by the Democrats and the teachers unions that they fund (who then kick back some of the money to their election campaigns) since before Professor Turley started posting his column here back in 2007.

  14. Politics have become so polluted. Both sides, All Sides.
It is ‘anything-but’ the epitome of Democracy.
“The Swamp” doesn’t begin to explain it’s depth of debauchery and evil.
    The whole thing is sickening.
In the past 10 years it has shown itself to be the worst of the worst.
And these Political People don’t seem to go away, there is no end to their chaos.
We have now entered the megalomania phase of Homicidal Politics.

In order for Justice to Prevail, the Agents of Political devises must be brought to face the consequences their actions.
Sans their penalty there is no Justice to be held, no Rule of Law. Which is where We are at. No one is brought to be responsible for their actions, lawlessness is rampant and in the arena of Politics it is paramount. Every Level and Branch of Government has been infected with irresponsibility. There is no Honest State of the State.

The United States is a Nation adrift with no one at the helm with the power to correct the course.
It can’t be fixed within the Constitutional Tools we have. Because it is a People problem, not a Framework problem.
We the People have become the problem that makes the Constitutional structure ineffective, hence making it appear defective.

We need to begin to make the People in Government pay the price for their irresponsibility. There must be accountability to The Rule of Law.

    1. Don’t forget the comedians of ABC, NBC, and CBS

They don’t tell jokes anymore. Instead the monologues start with political railing accusations.

The only classy guy, was Johnny Carson on NBC.

      1. Revisionist history:

Carson in 1974 re: Nixon: “There seem to be more problems with the tape… I think everybody’s entitled to make five to nine mistakes in a row. I mean what’s all the fuss about? The tape was accidentally erased many times. It could happen, like Germany accidentally invaded Poland twice”.

Carson in 1980s re: Reagan: he did an impression of Reagan answering press conference questions with nonsensical and absurd policy announcements. Jokes often revolved around his age or forgetfulness, and Carson once famously said that the president signed the new tax law with “Best wishes, Ronald Reagan”.

We are also way more polarized today, given gerrymandering and extremist politics. A nuanced approach to political humor will no longer be a ratings-driven option for comedians.

As evidenced by this blog, we no longer have partisan-less free thinkers. So, if a comedian tried to be balanced, it would not appeal to their audience (regardless of whether liberal or conservative).

  15. Too many teachers have lost sight of the responsibility they have to simply prepare young people for life and instead use their position to indoctrinate them with the political views of their union leaders.

    1. I’m sure the sight is still there, but the need to survive is greater (paycheck) as a union school teacher. Too bad the DOE is gone, could have used the money for cash awards and snitch payments. Money is a great motivator. Could have flushed the system of liberals.

  16. Professor Turley,

This article is “tone death” (sp) given the recent moves by Trump and Carr to censor disfavored speech. Trump said of evening shows on network TV: “All they do is hit Trump. They’re licensed. They’re not allowed to do that.”

Trump and Carr saying the quiet part out loud – that they will revoke FCC licenses to media outlets that do not censor anti-Trump speech – is straight out of the fascist playbook. Mussolini required journalists to register with the Fascist Party to be allowed to work. Mussolini’s press office issued directives to newspaper editors that dictated how to report on the government and Fascist policies. Editors who were not compliant were replaced or arrested.

We are absolutely backsliding into totalitarianism, so these comments are not far-fetched in the slightest.

    1. When the Dems invented Cancel Culture and also adopted “The Ends Justify The Means” modus operandi, they paved the way for the Republicans to do likewise. Remember, when they go low, we go lower!

      1. Not everyone picks a team, principles be damned.

As a libertarian, I oppose censorship, regardless of whether there is an R or D next to the President’s name.

Our government is threatening media to self-censor. This was exactly the type of governmental interference that Turley opposed in NRA v. Vullo (see article below).

        https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2024/01/02/aclu-nra-supreme-court-free-speech-case/72047487007/#:~:text=A%20triumvirate%20of%20government%2C%20corporate,any%20association%20with%20the%20organization.

Further, in an endless number of articles (and Congressional testimony – see link below), Turley attacked the Biden administration’s efforts to pressure social media companies to censor users on their websites.

If those activities were bad, Trump’s blatant threat to revoke FCC licenses from media companies that do not censor their anti-Trump commentators has to be opposed by Turley.

His silence on this issue, however, speaks volumes. He attacks has-been, and completely irrelevant CLINTON rather than addressing blatantly anti-free speech activity by Trump.

    2. “We are absolutely backsliding into totalitarianism, so these comments are not far-fetched in the slightest.”

As you’re desperate to be off topic and tone deaf to offer another example of Democrat hypocrisy? Remember totalitarianism just two years ago? Let me help you with that!

Push For Biden FCC To Strip Fox’s Broadcast License Gains New Momentum
      https://abovethelaw.com/2023/09/push-to-strip-foxs-broadcast-license-over-election-lies-gains-new-momentum/

Democrat police state fascism ISN’T totalitarianism? You weren’t saying “totalitarianism!” when (even before Trump) Obama/Biden were using their DoJ and FBI as their personal and Democrat party STASI, using police state fascism to criminalize and eliminate their political opponents and shutting down opposing free speech organizations. You weren’t saying it even after they later offered a fake apology and paid punitive damages.

Never said that as it continued all the way through to Trump’s reelection last November. You couldn’t say THAT “quiet part” out loud and still can’t.

The bloviating and trolling by Trump, Bondi, and Carr was another example of yet again, when winning a battle, Republicans can stop winning on so many fronts to take the time to shoot themselves in the foot with thoughtless stupid remarks to hand Democrats some wild talking points.

      1. How do you know I wasn’t saying criticizing Democrats for engaging in efforts to control the media? I was! As I noted above, not everyone picks a team, principles be damned.

That being said — the article you posted clarifies that nothing FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel did during her tenure is remotely close to what just happened this week with Carr. There definitely were efforts by Biden to control social media, but nothing similar to FCC license revocation like this. This is a big deal.

        1. “the article you posted clarifies that nothing FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel did during her tenure is remotely close to what just happened this week with Carr.”

The reason why Jessica Rosenworcel didn’t do anything to Fox News is because she couldn’t. The FCC doesn’t have purview (ie regulatory power) over Fox News, just like the FCC doesn’t have any purview over CNN, MSNBC, and any other cable news broadcastera.
