Wrecking Ball Politics: Swalwell Calls for Destructive Pledge from Democratic Presidential Candidates

Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., did the impossible last week: he reached a new low in American politics. Previously, Swalwell mocked a female senator after she complained about being threatened by leftists. However, even on the Swalwell scale, it is hard to measure the depths of a member who calls for potential presidents to pledge to demolish the Trump ballroom as a litmus test for office. Consider that for a second. According to Swalwell, Democrats will only consider politicians who promise to destroy a $300 million building to appease the lowest common denominator of their party.

Swalwell went on X to declare: “Don’t even think of seeking the Democratic nomination for president unless you pledge to take a wrecking ball to the Trump Ballroom on DAY ONE.”

That is Eric Swalwell’s measure of a president: the willingness to destroy hundreds of millions of dollars in construction in an anti-Trump fit.

One can object to the unilateral decision to tear down the East Wing, but Trump likely has the authority to do so. Past presidents have ordered substantial alterations to the building. What is also clear is that the White House has long needed a ballroom. Trump is right that it is embarrassing to have guests at state dinners sit outside in a tent, since we are among the few major countries without such a space.

Even the Washington Post has come out in favor of the ballroom and said that future presidents will value the addition. However, Swalwell wants the next president to commit to destroying it as a political statement.

The rhetoric continued to ratchet up over the ballroom last week. It is clear that Swalwell was not getting through, as people piled onto social media to denounce the move. He then came up with something that no sane person would demand.

What is interesting is that he is right about one thing. Such a pledge would be useful for voters. Anyone taking the Swalwell pledge would instantly disqualify themselves from the office in the minds of most Americans.

While it certainly worked to get Swalwell back in the news, it was for all the wrong reasons. While Miley Cyrus may have ridden a wrecking ball to fame, Swalwell is unlikely to ride the wave of rage to relevancy in American politics.

  1. Two quips from Edward Bellamy’s novel ‘Looking Backward”: Copyright 1887

Described by Wikipedia “…. a utopian romance novel about a future socialist society. In Bellamy’s utopia, property was held in common and money replaced with a system of equal credit for all. Valid for a year and non-transferable between individuals, credit expenditure was tracked via “credit-cards” (which bear no resemblance to modern credit cards which are tools of debt-finance). Labour was compulsory from age 21 to 40 and organised via various departments of an Industrial Army to which most citizens belonged. Working hours were cut drastically due to technological advances (including organisational). People were expected to be motivated by a Religion of Solidarity, and criminal behavior was treated as a form of mental illness or “atavism” ….

    Chapter I
The nervous tension of the public mind could not have been more strikingly illustrated than it was by the alarm resulting from the talk of a small- band of men who called themselves anarchists, and proposed to terrify the American people into adopting their ideas by threats of violence, as if a mighty nation which had but just put down a rebellion of half its own numbers, in order to maintain its political system, were likely to adopt a new social system out of fear..

What I see in New York has the principles of Engles, the struggle between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat, which if the Socialists are successful will lead to draconian measures on the masses.

  2. Biden’s DOJ used numerous wrecking balls on American medical scientists that surpassed the scientists during the reigns of Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong and the Nazis combined. COVID was only the tip of the iceberg.

Justice Department unexpectedly drops fraud case against Alzheimer’s scientist

Former City University of New York (CUNY) researcher Hoau-Yan Wang had been indicted in 2023 for “defrauding the National Institutes of Health (NIH) of approximately $16 million” …

The prosecutors in the case did not reply to questions about why they dropped the charges. But their decision may relate to the recent disclosure of a 30 May letter from CUNY to the federal Office of Research Integrity (ORI). In it, a CUNY official says that although an investigative panel had found signs of improper image manipulation in scores of Wang’s studies, the school had concluded he had not engaged in scientific misconduct, based on what it called the “heightened evidentiary standard” the investigatory panel used. After the letter was disclosed, Wang’s defense attorneys filed a request to dismiss the case. They argued, among other issues, that DOJ had committed prosecutorial misconduct by not revealing the document and any other relevant communications between ORI, CUNY, and NIH.

Wang’s lawyers confirmed to Science today that he has retired from CUNY. “He has endured unbelievable hardships during the past 4 years and is still evaluating his options for the future,” Beidel says.

  3. Random people with random names (‘Mr. Tea’) do not convince me that this site is not absolutely inundated with trolls. Some of them contrarian, some of them poseurs trying to obfuscate.

At this point, a good more than half of the comment activity is troll related. Surely some kind of equitable solution is possible, as some of us actually enjoy the conversations and even *intelligent* polemic here. Polemic is one thing, being gamed is another. Is there any desire to address this? Because this site is a treasure, and it gets gamed to death, every single day.

    1. Let’s all go over to the “JAMES BLOG” and engage in the absolute constitutional freedom of speech—according to James.

      Oops! There is none.

      1. James has a very long history of whining about the “trolls” here and demanding that “something be done” to curb their speech on this worthless blog supposedly dedicated to “free speech”.

  4. Ten Kudos Points for Miley Cyrus’ – Wrecking Ball! 👍
    And
Ten Dmerit Points for Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif. 👎

[If Milley’s running in 2028 she has a good chance of a Win]

  5. Today, Donnie’s little johnson will keep the House adjourned for the 84th day out of the last 96.
12 days of work in over 3 months.
    With full pay and benefits.
The Senate has been working, so this is not about the shutdown.

It is about avoiding a vote to release the Epstein files.

    1. GEORGE CLOONEY?

Biden didn’t release a scintilla of the “Epstein Files” for four years. Oops!

    2. “It is about avoiding a vote to release the Epstein files.”

The ones that – if they had ANYTHING derogatory about Trump – either The Oval Office House Plant or his final version as President Auto-Pen would have broken records “leaking” to the Democrat-Mainstream Media Propaganda Complex during the year long election campaign.

Biden’s Tranny Bolshevik Birthing Boyz will try ANYTHING to say this isn’t about AOC’s intended target, Chuck The Schmuck Schumer, staying safe in his seat by trying to keep the Biden Tranny Boyz getting funds to Tranny little kids.

  6. “Crazy Abe” Lincoln, the consummate high criminal of American history, denied not prohibited and fully constitutional secession, commenced an undeclared war, forcibly imposed unconstitutional martial law, illicitly suspended habeas corpus, was derelict and negligent in his presidential duty to enforce American immigration law, razed the South, killed one million Americans, etc., etc., and President Donald J. Trump can’t minimally remodel the White House as has been done numerous times on numerous governmental structures in the past?

    “Eric Swalwell.”

    Say no more!

    1. “Crazy Abe” Lincoln, the consummate high criminal of American history, There’s the signature call of Mad King GeorgeX, the Democrat Confederate Kluxxer constitutional expert.

Now driven stark raving mad because of his uncontrollable desire to have an intersectional, bi-racial sexual liason with what he usually calls “a Darky” – but now calls a brilliant journalist – Stacey Patton who works as a Democrat propagandist for Black Liars & Marxists.

GeorgeX is so torn he can’t even keep his multiple personalities straight.

  7. Clearly these were intemperate remarks. I cannot imagine succeeding president not appreciating and putting the ballroom to good use for the national good. We can be thankful that Rep Swalwell, in his blind hatred for DJT, has not, so far as I know it, pushed for the Israeli hostages to go back to Hamas. At least Sec Blinken has rushed to take partial credit – where likely credit was not due. A sure sign that not all of what DJT accomplishes is viewed by Democrats with unmitigated disdain.

    1. Rabble:
There is guaranteed a non-zero percentage of politicians and bureaucrats on the left that secretly love what Trump is doing, but are scared as a chihuahua in a hurricane to attempt a voice for any of it, because it would mean an instant primary challenge.

  8. Swalwell proves, yet again, that TDS-afflicted Democrats should never again be allowed within 52 factorial cubed parsecs (even farther than 52 factorial squared parsecs…) of governmental power or authority. They are lunatics presenting a “clear and present danger” to the survival of the Republic. Voting them into office is no different than downing a dozen Hemlock margaritas.

    1. Swalwell was selling America to the ChiComs through pillow talk with Fang Fang, about the same time that Bribery Biden was selling America to the same ChiComs from the Vice Presidents office by way of The First Felon Crackhead Kid.

Both of them were doing this LONG before Trump announced his decision to run for the presidency. They can’t use “TDS” as their excuse for what they did before Trump.

  9. The Dims have finally figured out why Trump wants the ballroom.

    Its his legacy.

Trump should have a couple of Nobel Prizes already.
Yet he is snubbed. Even if he were to get them… would people know who he was some 200 years from now?
    No.

But were he to build the ball room. It will always be known as Trump’s ballroom.

Agent Swallow is just playing in to it.

Trump owns him and the other Dims.

    1. Trump has a legacy, all right: the first 34-felony count convicted criminal, using the DOJ to prosecute his perceived enemies and firing career prosecutors who refused to go along with his illegal “indictments” by an unqualified and illegal fake “prosecutor” who doesn’t know federal criminal law, tearing down a wing of a historic building over 120 years old to construct a vanity project that NO ONE other than he wants, all without asking Congress, the National Trust for Historic Preservation or other federal agencies which are required, by law, to approve such projects, unilaterally enacting tariffs based on his ego and whims that are driving up inflation, increasing prices, and also driving a historically low approval rating, setting a record for government shut down over the fight to give massive tax breaks to the wealthiest at the cost of school lunches for poor kids, ACA subsidies that people need, and endlessly lying–a ceasefire is NOT a “peace agreement”, he didn’t solve 9 wars, lied about countries being at war–he doesn’t deserve the Nobel Peace Prize, fired cancer researchers, started endless trade wars, hired the most unqualified cabinet in history, takes bribes in the form of a free airplane and purchase of crypto by that Chinese criminal whom he pardoned, moved a convicted sex offender to a cushy federal prison for which she does not qualify, lied about releasing the Epstein files–the list is too long to recount here. The “ballroom” should either be torn down or reconfigured to what it had been before–offices for military liaisons, a movie theater, the First Lady’s offices and additional office space. Jackie Kennedy’s rose garden needs to be restored, too—take up the pavement and throw out the cheap furniture. America can’t wait for him to go away. Just look at the polls–they keep getting worse and worse.

      1. Rabble:
Gigi, don’t you know by now that your morning shroom/acid/fent coffee is bad for your mental state? I mean look at you! You don’t even know what reality is anymore!

      2. “Trump has a legacy, all right: the first 34-felony count convicted criminal,”

Business is slow tonight in the alleys behind the bars on Crackhead Row, Gigi?

Vibrators all faking dead batteries again this morning? Sharing a crack pipe with The First Felon Crackhead Kid? Started day drinking too early after breakfast?

You’re really going to have to do a lot of rewiring once that Soviet Style police state fascist show trial and it’s judge are no longer protected by being within the state of New York. Appeals courts are going to gut it like they did that stinking skank Letitia James’ prosecution of Trump

  10. OT

I always wondered what the import of a “government shutdown” would be.

Turns out all of America, apparently, is discombobulated about WIC, SNAP, and EBT—”free stuff” and “free status.”

For crying out loud, is this anything close to what the American Founders intended?

Is this their maximal “freedom” facilitating “the pursuit of happiness”?

This problem would not exist if the Supreme Court would simply do its job, its sworn oath duty, and tell America that the communist welfare state and all of its subcomponents are irrefutably unconstitutional.

    1. Rabble:
An effect that not many are aware of for the shutdown:
I am active duty, instructor for the Navy. No sailors that have graduated their respective pipelines since about mid-September have been cut orders to their boats. None of the admin civilians are working due to furloughs. That also definitely means that, across the armed forces, men and women that were getting ready to transfer, either to another command or into civilian life, are all at a standstill until the furlough ends.
It’s nasty, and will hold up a lot of gears from turning, and lead to a lot of resentment.

      1. “WIC, SNAP, and EBT—’free stuff’ and ‘free status’ are orders of magnitude more critical than the Navy.”

        – Senator Chuck Schumer

    2. “This problem would not exist if the Supreme Court would simply do its job”

The overwhelming singular failure of the American republic rights and freedoms experiment has been voters allowing the continued existence of the vile and violent, seditious DNC and their equally vile members like Mad King GeorgeX. The Democrats who blame the chaos they’ve created on the Supreme Court, not themselves: the Court that has given them what they couldn’t get at the ballot box.

The Confederate DNC who have now embraced Marx/Alinsky’s communist strategies since losing the Kluxxer Civil War and now put their fellow communists like Justices Jackson and Sotomayor on SCOTUS, polluting that court in hopes of continuing to get from SCOTUS what voters consistently reject at the ballot box.

And while Mad King GeorgeX and other communist Democrats want to blame SCOTUS – at the same time they howl in delight at the actions of Jackson and Sotomayor that they worked so hard to put on SCOTUS.

  11. Maybe if Hakeem Jeffries paid the actual amount of real estate taxes that his property is actually valued at, he could possibly give some suggestion to the discussion/debate of anything going on.
Maybe if Marjorie Clark received food stamps, she could have something to discuss–But she has to listen to me too. She does not care about the legal residents in the country–they are just leverage..
May if Eric Swalwell didn’t have a foreign government sliding its hand into his pocket through a personal relationship, I might listen to his ideas. But, he needs to listen to mine.
At this time, I am not listening to the ideas of the leftist democrats and I would not vote for them. They really don’t care abou the people. They care about themselves.

  12. While I am certainly opposed to tyrannical Trump, the ballroom is a good idea. The tacky interior can readily be replaced by somethibng more Fedealist.

    1. “While I am certainly opposed to tyrannical Trump”

David B. Benson, whatterm do you use for presidents that first pay for an illegal “Russia Dossier” campaign document – created through the criminal act of hiring foreign spies to create that document. And after having done that, tell their Attorney Generals and FBI Directors who have told them the document is fraudulent, to go to FISA courts where they are to perjure themselves and utter false documents to that court, swearing it is evidence that a patriotic American veteran was a traitor meeting with Russian spies at the Russian embassy in Miami (an embassy that does not exist)?

(You don’t seriously hope to convince people that they all conspired together to hide what they were doing from Obama, and he never heard about it from any other source like the news covering investigations related to those warrants)

And then when those presidents’ FBI get those fraudulent counterespionage warrants – later declared void when the fact FBI Directors and Attorney Generals had perjured themselves could no longer be hidden – then they used them to deprive THOUSANDS of Americans of their Fourth Amendment rights by color of law. Oh – and perjure themselves yet again later on, claiming General Flynn had discussed sanctions with a Russian embassy official when the illegally unmasked recording of the conversation showed the complete opposite.

And that was just the start.

Do you call that tyrannical Obama and then tyrannical Biden? Or do you just reserve that for Trump because he hurts you in the feels?

Personally, for those two, I think it is more accurate and much easier to prove referring to them as “police state fascists”, straight out of the Lenin and Lavarentiy Beria mould. Minus the bullet in the back of the head down in the basement at Levforto Prison in Moscow, of course.

You got a better, more accurate descriptive term than that, David?

We can move on to how they used the DoJ as police state fascists against parents who attended school board meetings to protest those boards putting tranny rapists in their daughters’ change rooms. Attempted to label traditional Catholics as domestic terrorists. And couldn’t find a single rioter that sent dozens of Capitol Police and Secret Service to hospitals with wounds they suffered from Molotov Cocktails and other deadly weapons over the two days those rioters assaulted the White House – but managed to track down every granny and veteran who trespassed on the Senate lawn to take a selfie a few months later on January 6th.

I have a suspicion that borders on the obvious: in print at least, you wouldn’t even recognize tyranny even after years and years of enthusiastically defending the last two Democrat presidents engaging in exactly that.

  13. Let’s not kid ourselves. Democrats and the fascistic socialists among them will stand at the head of the line eager to have and use for themselves the revitalized East Wing. Visualize Bernie in Schutzstaffel attire and AOC in her Tax The Rich gown gayly shuffling and slithering from one end of the ballroom to the other.

    1. Swallwell is another example of Paretos Principle. You really need to amend the number of reps to 2 per State. 80% are worthless or actually harmful.

      1. Rabble:
I wonder how a straight grid system would work. Forget state lines, how can we evenly split up the geography to have X amount of Representatives?
Then, the only issue becomes the parts of the northern states, the mountains, and the desert where barely anyone lives. Harder to represent what isn’t all there.

      2. Two representatives per state? The exact opposite of what the creators of the Constitution intended? Somebody has had The Good Idea Fairy flying in to pee brilliant ideas into their cornflakes again.

What a sick way to put those two House members in the hands of the majority living in the largest cities. Never mind Fly Over Country. Just about every state would then be its own Fly Over Country once you get outside the biggest cities in that state.

I’d like to hear the explanation that by doing that, suddenly, the two picked by the urban majority in each state would no longer be 80% worthless or actually harmful….

        1. It’s pretty obvious he means one Republican and one Democrat, with different voting strength depending on how many voters they represent. There’s no reason California Democrats need 40 or so representatives, when one person could represent them all and cast 40 votes. They all vote the same way anyway.
