Murder, She Wrote: CBS Reporter Declares Good Shooting to be “Murder” by ICE

CBS News has made great strides under Bari Weiss, but clearly there remains work to be done. On Monday’s “CBS Evening News,” CBS News Homeland Security and Justice Correspondent Nicole Sganga declared that the video released by DHS shows “the minutes leading up to the murder of Renee Good.” It is an all-too-familiar pattern in which the mainstream media aligns its reporting with the advocacy of groups on the left. As I have written, one can certainly disagree with the necessity of using lethal force in this instance, but it fell well within the established guidelines for the use of such force set by the Supreme Court and lower courts.

Spanga added, “Trump administration officials have claimed she intended to ram ICE agents before she was shot.”

In the end, it does not matter what her intentions were. Her actions, not her intentions, drive the analysis. She refused orders to get out of the car after obstructing the federal agents and then struck the officer.

The protests and the reporting seem entirely detached from the legal standard. It is much like the media mantra that the January 6th riot was an “insurrection.” It did not matter that no such charge was brought against Trump or others. (Only a handful were charged with sedition, which some of us opposed).

Democrats, particularly in Minnesota, where the fraud scandal is consuming the coverage, have leaped to the front of the mob to call for the arrest of this officer. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) on Monday again described the incident as “a clearly thought out murder.”

Omar explained:

“I mean, it is, the most BS statement again, that the administration, can put out. You see this officer clearly go in front of, the car as she reverses. You see his hands, on the car, you see, his feet is very far away from the wheels of the car. So there was no possibility, that he might have been afraid, of getting, hit by the car. And so it is a clear PR, it’s a defense, of a clear murder, that we see on TV, by the administration. And it is shameful, and it should not be acceptable is unconscionable. And I stand by everything that I’ve said.

“I am very comfortable with the word murder. There is no conscience way in which you watch the video that the administration itself has produced. And you do not see this person, this officer, Jonathan Ross, clearly murdering this woman. Not only does he shoot her in the face, but you see two more shots being fired on the side of the driver’s window. There is no way to explain this outside of it being a clearly thought out murder, an execution of this woman.”

A “clearly thought out murder”? The video shows a split-second response from an officer who was struck by the car.

The Supreme Court has stressed that  the reasonableness standard is addressed “from the perspective of a reasonable officer on the scene, rather than with the 20/20 vision of hindsight.” As the Court stressed in Graham v. Connor, “police officers are often forced to make split-second judgments—in circumstances that are tense, uncertain, and rapidly evolving[.]‍”

Notably, even officers who were able to evade or dodge an approaching car have been found to have lawfully used lethal force. No actual contact is required.

Given the strong arguments that can be made for this officer, one would think that CBS and other news organizations would avoid a declaration of murder. Even if you disagree with the use of force, it is not true that this can be reported as murder. There has not been a completion of the investigation, let alone an adjudication.

  1. The CCP has legions of trollers from the population of disaffected young men born of the one-child policy years — men unable to find mates, thus damned to lives of celibacy. The CCP has molded their minds with nationalistic tales of the greatness of the Chinese nation and that the United States trying to hold it down to prevent it from ascending to its rightful position as the middle kingdom of the world. These lads have often been labeled the “fifty centers” as the government would pay them fifty cents for every trolling post on a western social media or news blog.

They have found this site and now we have to navigate around their childishly ridiculous posts like a walking across the yard of a property owner who does not pick up after his dog.

  2. This is what is current policy regarding shooting at a moving vehicle as published by Donald Trump’s DOJ:

“Shooting at a moving vehicle is not an effective way to get it to stop. There is the challenge of hitting a moving target, and the risk of an errant bullet hitting an unintended target, such as a bystander. There is also a risk that if the driver is struck, they will lose control of the vehicle. The Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) has long recommended to individual agencies that they prohibit shooting at a moving vehicle. When PERF issued its Guiding Principles on Use of Force in 2016, this recommendation became principle #8.136 In June 2020, PERF updated its policy in response to terrorist incidents, including those in Nice, France, and in New York City, in which attackers used trucks to run down victims. The revised language is as follows: Agencies should adopt a prohibition against shooting at or from a moving vehicle unless someone in the vehicle is using or threatening deadly force by means other than the vehicle itself, or the driver is attempting to use the vehicle as a weapon of mass destruction in an apparent terrorist attack.137 136. PERF, Guiding Principles on Use of Force. 137. PERF, “PERF Daily Critical Issues Report.” This standard has been adopted by agencies across the country and continues to be a best practice. ”

So what justifies Ross shooting into the minivan?

      1. Dustoff
What exactly is your point with this stupid comment ???

Are you saying that it is acceptable to shoot at a Honda SUV but not a minivan ????

  3. In his zeal to throw red meat to the MAGA mob, Turley quite deliberately ignores the refusal of the DOJ to investigate the shooting of Nicole Good.

It has always been routine standard practice for any officer involved shooting to be investigated by an independent authority. Most states, including Minnesota, have a legal requirement for such investigations. It is mandatory, not optional. At the local level, the procedure is usually for the sheriff to investigate police department shootings and vice versa. In the case of Minnesota, there is a mandatory requirement for the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to investigate shootings by federal officers.

There is no legal requirement at the federal level to investigate shootings by federal officers, but it has always been customary for such investigations to take place. The DOJ has a unit within the Civil Rights Division that routinely investigates ALL shootings by federal officers.

The leader of the Civil Rights Division, Harmeet Dhillon, a former personal attorney of Donald Trump, has blocked Minnesota from investigating the shooting.
She also blocked the Civil Rights Division itself from performing an investigation.
This prompted the immediate resignation in protest by the 4 most senior leaders of the DOJ unit that until now, has routinely investigated ALL officer involved shootings by federal officers.

The reason for such routine investigations is obvious. The vast majority of investigations officially exonerate the officer and give the public peace of mind that law enforcement is following required procedures.

So, why is the DOJ blocking an investigation of the shooting that would normally take place as a matter of routine at both the state and federal level?????

    The answer is obvious.

They know there are serious problems with the conduct of the officers involved in this incident, and do not want the truth to come out.
If there were no problems, they should be eager to get the investigation done rapidly to exonerate all the officers involved in this incident.
It is an obvious and blatant cover-up

    1. 100% correct. It seems even absurd to have to continuously point out the obvious – that at MINIMUM, Ross could be found guilty of reckless conduct putting multiple lives in danger (including his own) through his actions – let alone negligent homicide. But Turley isn’t interested in the truth – certainly not when communicating to his audience. How would he sell any books if he was actually objective in his analysis?

  4. Once again, MSM fanning the flames of hate and rage, adding to even more conspiracy theories, falsehoods, and alternative realities.
Really amazing how so many leftists seem to be able to read minds, and have such a command of the law.

    1. Nicholas Sandmann, please provide the ICE officer how to start the multi-million dollar defamation lawsuit.

  5. This Good shooting (pun intended) is just another example of the media is the enemy of the people. Who watches mainstream evening news anymore?

  6. Leftwing fascists have declared war on America, and are using their weak-minded brownshirts in the streets.

    1. Anti-Fascist has just described the the Trump regime perfectly. DHS “Secretary” Kristi Noem was even wearing a brownshirt with 10 gallon hat to match at a televised press briefing in Brownsville the other day. This fashion victim thinks of herself as the cutest little trick in shoe leather.

Trump’s goon squads are shooting people in the streets. That is what I call “war on America.”

      1. Okay, strawman time. Name ONE AMERICAN that has been shot and killed by the “goon squads,” other than Mrs. Good. Not an illegal

      2. Imagine some idiot hiring someone like you to be on their editorial staff. Actually, I don’t have to imagine it.

    1. Somalia?

When she spouted this .. I wonder whether she was wearing her D.C. attire (the turban-like head covering) or the one for show (much more fabric and neck covered ) that she dons when in MN?

    2. I honestly love it when the loyal Turley disciple show’s their racism like this. I mean – we might as well get it all out in the open. Let’s all declare who and what we really are – right?

  7. Haven’t watched CBS Eve News and 20/20 in years…. now I know it’s not yet safe to go back. Just wish they and many other purported journalists would truly reform and once again embrace their obligation to objectively report.

    1. Had high hopes that Bari Weiss at CBS and William Lewis at the WaPo would be able to knock some sense into these twinkies, but one pretty much has to fire the entire staff at some of these companies to correct course; i.e. these companies are too far gone to fix. Wokesters would rather burn it all to the ground than give up the lie.

After years of preferential hiring, employers might want to rethink those preferences before it’s too late. You hire one wokester, they hire others–exclusively. They discriminate like nobody else. They literally think in terms of a takeover.

  8. it’s not surprising that legacy media / DNC are using a left-wing radicalized dead lesbian who died because of her illiberal dogmas. Her apologists detest every aspect of life—speech, work, family, art, women, and economic survival.

Thee are the same people who celebrate aborted babies including right after delivery, castrated little boys, little girls with mastectomies, anti-free speech, anti-parent, anti-family, anti-work, anti-economic survival administrative policies under Biden DOJ investigations, trans-whatever who demean and threaten women in athletic events, locker rooms, schools, prisons, etc. It only follows that they are ignoring the Iranian uprising since they helped create the Iranian militant islamic republic.

Thankfully X covers the collapse of the brutal Iranian regime in real-time

    Tahmineh Dehbozorgi
    @DeTahmineh
The Western liberal media is ignoring the Iranian uprising because explaining it would force an admission it is desperate to avoid: the Iranian people are rebelling against Islam itself, and that fact shatters the moral framework through which these institutions understand the world.

Islam, in Western progressive discourse, has been racialized. It is treated not as a belief system or a political ideology, but as a stand-in for race or ethnicity. Criticizing Islam is framed as an attack on “brown people,” Arabs, or “the Middle East,” as if Islam were a skin color rather than a doctrine.

… Iran is not only a religious dictatorship. It is a centrally controlled, state-dominated economy where markets are strangled, private enterprise is criminalized or co-opted, and economic survival depends on proximity to political power. Decades of price controls, subsidies, nationalization, and bureaucratic micromanagement have obliterated the middle class and entrenched corruption as the only functional system. The result is not equality or justice. It is poverty, stagnation, and dependence on government’s dark void of empty promises.
    https://x.com/DeTahmineh/status/2009680255091405074

the similarities between Iran’s dictatorship and blue states like Minnesota are apparent

  9. The CBS television network no longer exists for me, because they’ve become a tool of the Trump administration, along with Blondi and Bari. Gotta keep that orangutan happy….🤣

    1. What a laugh , now we know you are day drinking. I upvoted you because of the sheer laughter crazies like you bring me. You should do stand up…shame is nobody would show up.

  10. I guess it doesn’t even matter that his own training would have included the very important guidance that you don’t shoot at a vehicle moving toward you because doing so is reckless, will potentially end up injuring innocent bystanders behind the vehicle, and will not stop the forward momentum of the car. His own training would have taught him that in this situation you are to jump clear of the vehicle. Why then, did he shoot?

    1. Stop, just stop. You have already proven your lunacy and only here to toss BS. We get it, this is how you make your life feel relevant and important. But the posts are just absurd and reflection of whatever the D/Left/MSM story line is, showing a lack of originality or thought.

      1. It’s not my lunacy – it’s Trump’s DOJ lunacy. This is what the TRUMP DOJ has published in it’s own guidance regarding vehicle pursuits:

PERF, Guiding Principles on Use of Force. 137. PERF, “PERF Daily Critical Issues Report.” This standard has been adopted by agencies across the country and continues to be a best practice.”

        It’s on page 80. Here’s the link:

      1. If you watched the body cam footage he fired while he was being hit….but you knew that. I am proud he was such a good shot and connected with and eliminated the deadly threat.

  11. “In the end, it does not matter what her intentions were. Her actions, not her intentions, drive the analysis. She refused orders to get out of the car after obstructing the federal agents and then struck the officer.”

She was under no obligation to get out of the car. She was not obstructing federal agents. Turley is lying. She bumped the officer who was getting around the front of the car. He was wearing body armor and holding a phone on one hand. The weight of the car, the acceleration, and the fact that Good may not even have been aware of Ross are all factors in the case. Ross was not supposed to be in front of the car. She was in a position where ICE could have driven past her. She was not obstructing and her previous holding up of traffic not ICE was a traffic violation not an obstruction of ICE. They had no authority to detain her or order her to get out of the car. They wanted to retaliate against her annoying harasment and observation. ICE is getting really frustrated with observers and even now more experienced ICE officers are starting to get worried the more inexperiened ones are getting angrier and more aggressive because they are doing things that are borderline unlawful and too aggressive. Many are refusing calls to go to Minnesota because protesters are rightfully getting more angry and violent because ICE is getting more violent.

The more experienced officers are calling for descalation and cooling off the situation, but I suspect DHS and Stephen Miller himself are ratcheting up the aggresivness to justify increased use of force likely military if things don’t descalate soon. I believe that is the intention. To stoke more violence to justify more federal intervention.

    1. george
She was under no obligation to get out of the car.
      _______________________________
You lying fool. The officer placed her under arrest (yes he can hear him say that on the video)

      1. DustOff,
Dont bother reading his crap. Just scroll past. Even more, dont respond. Not worth your time.

    2. Lots of BS as usual. Nothing to see here, just a rehash from yesterday. And do note, X has no sources, citations or verifiable quotes. As said, more crazy BS.

    3. Not responding to George, but clarifying that, whilst we do not know the specific RoE the agents were given, general rule is that officers have the power to stop any intrusions or obstacles to immediate operations. Including deranged fangirls who had been following them around all day.
But also, ICE is, by all definitions, law enforcement. And, funny enough that no one on George’s side has thought: Walz last year signed into effect a bill in MN where Law Enforcement (no stipulation on local, state, or federal) only need the reaction time of their life being in danger from a 1.5 ton death machine to determine whether deadly force is authorized.
Once again, rules from the Democrats biting them in the royally lubed behind.

      1. Can somebody finally cite, or link to a page, the ICE policy regarding vehicles accelerating, considered a threat, at an agent?
Lots of know-it-alls but still, this nonsense has been going on since yesterday, and no one can prove what they spout.

        1. Found it! (same Anon you replied to). Not ICE, but Minnesota:
          https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/cite/609.066
          Reads:
Subd. 2.Use of deadly force. (a) Notwithstanding the provisions of section 609.06 or 609.065, the use of deadly force by a peace officer in the line of duty is justified only if an objectively reasonable officer would believe, based on the totality of the circumstances known to the officer at the time and without the benefit of hindsight, that such force is necessary:
          (1) to protect the peace officer or another from death or great bodily harm, provided that the threat:

          (i) can be articulated with specificity;

(ii) is reasonably likely to occur absent action by the law enforcement officer; and

(iii) must be addressed through the use of deadly force without unreasonable delay; or

          (2) to effect the arrest or capture, or prevent the escape, of a person whom the peace officer knows or has reasonable grounds to believe has committed or attempted to commit a felony and the officer reasonably believes that the person will cause death or great bodily harm to another person under the threat criteria in clause (1), items (i) to (iii), unless immediately apprehended.

          (b) A peace officer shall not use deadly force against a person based on the danger the person poses to self if an objectively reasonable officer would believe, based on the totality of the circumstances known to the officer at the time and without the benefit of hindsight, that the person does not pose a threat of death or great bodily harm to the peace officer or to another under the threat criteria in paragraph (a), clause (1), items (i) to (iii).

And, for better dunking, the MN definition of “Peace Officer”, from https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/cite/626.84#stat.626.84.1
          Subdivision 1.Definitions…
          (c) “Peace officer” means:
          (1) an employee or an elected or appointed official of a political subdivision or law enforcement agency

Fits all the bills for the officer defending his own life and the lives of others. Without hindsight, what would you have done in that situation?

        2. “The intentional discharge of a firearm, other than a firearm loaded with less lethal munitions and used by a peace officer within the scope of official duties, in the direction of another person, or at a vehicle in which another person is believed to be, constitutes deadly force.”

    4. Xray: You are quite wrong. She was under and obligation to get out of the car and she was blocking traffic.

    5. Another actor wanting in on the remake of tropic thunder. You looneys need to draw straws for that part.

  12. The political Left seems desperate to find a ‘George Floyd 2.0.’ Ideally, for their narrative, they need a figure in the direct chain of command to President Trump. Some believe Ms. Good fits this role. But is she the right candidate? Is the narrative resonating? Countervailing details are already emerging, including allegations of previous training on using a vehicle for intimidation and a history of using a vehicle for obstruction. Worst of all for the narrative, she is white, and therefore viewed by many as inherently privileged.

  13. “As I have written, one can certainly disagree with the necessity of using lethal force in this instance, but it fell well within the guidelines for the use of such force set by the Supreme Court and lower courts.”

It’s not surprising that Professor Turley seems to be echoing the gaslighting narrative pushed by Fox News.

This action didn’t align with the established guidelines, since even Homeland Security has pointed out that officers are specifically trained not to step in front of a vehicle in these scenarios. Shooting at a fleeing car is not justified according to SCOTUS.

Ross was not acting reasonably at the time, as he placed himself in a position he was trained to avoid during such incidents. Many have called it murder, and others have deemed it unjustified.

What’s interesting is how Turley overlooks the blatant lies from Noem and the administration regarding the incident’s facts. Noem and Trump lied, yet Turley remains silent, engaging in gaslighting almost an hour after the event. When one reporter points out that many are calling it murder, Turley goes on the attack—likely because he’s trying to keep the Fox narrative intact in defense of a poor decision made by an ICE officer who had every opportunity to stay clear of the vehicle.

ICE had no valid reason to stop her when she was clearly trying to let them pass. Claims of obstruction are based solely on her blocking traffic, not on ICE’s actions, which makes it a traffic violation, not an ICE matter. They chose to confront her and attempt an arrest as a form of retaliation rather than enforcement.

Turley tends to focus on the media and Democrats but conveniently ignores the blatant gaslighting and lies from those on the right. He’s part of the problem and contributes to the media issues he criticizes. His role seems to be to gaslight the opposition, employing some self-righteous justification to paint them as “wrong” or “radical.”

By playing the innocent “objective” observer, Turley is not doing any favors. His bias is clear, and he’s quick to cover for the lies and gaslighting that those on the right love to perpetuate whenever someone from their side makes a serious mistake.

It’s likely that ICE will face trouble when Democrats take back control of the House—and possibly the Senate. Impeachments could be on the horizon, and Trump might be severely hamstrung for the second half of his presidency.

    1. X –

Good, you’re here again. Everything you write reads like Bluesky’s version of Chat GPT.

X: “ICE had no valid reason to stop her when she was clearly trying to let them pass. Claims of obstruction are based solely on her blocking traffic, not on ICE’s actions, which makes it a traffic violation, not an ICE matter. They chose to confront her and attempt an arrest as a form of retaliation rather than enforcement.”

That is a ton of lies in a short little paragraph. She was clearly obstructing if you watch the entire video. 18 USC 111 allows them to arrest her. However, they initially order her to move. She refuses (so add disobeying a lawful instruction). So, they then order her from the vehicle to detain her and perhaps arrest her (they have discretion to do either). She then flees directly at an ICE officer and 111(b) allows for the agent to defend himself, which he did.

It was not murder. It was justified under both the law and legal precedence. If the Dems get control of either the house, the senate, or both, and want to make it all about going after ICE to protect illegal aliens, I FULLY SUPPORT THAT! The Dems tried that in 2024 and lost in a landslide. Keep making the same mistakes, please.

Try, just try to actually watch the full video and learn what you are talking about. Or maybe not. It is a real pleasure to read what sort of mad lib you’re going to throw at us each day. Always good for a laugh!

    2. The good professor loves to bemoan “The Age of Rage” while at the same time fanning its flames, all the while warming his hands over it through shilling his books which ponders “oh how ever can we solve this problem that the left has clearly caused?!?!”

  14. The government is guilty of staging an interactive theater, then surprised when people interact. They sent 2000 ICE commandoes to Minneapolis, four times the size of the city’s police force.

The Trump administration is more concerned with the welfare of the protesters in Tehran, than those in our own cities.

    1. What does the size of the Minny police force matter? They cannot enforce immigration laws (thank you Obama administration for ensuring states can’t enforce that federal law).

Protestors in Iran are seeking freedom. Protestors in Minny are protecting rapists, murders, and pedophiles. Despite the antics of these protestors many of the worst criminals have been caught so they can’t continue to terrorize these same protestors (although likely these AWFLs will go back to their gated neighborhoods and never be bothered with the results of their own actions).

Protesting is awesome! Its protected (as JT points out almost daily). Blocking or interfering with law enforcement in the scope of their duty is a crime (potentially a felony depending on circumstances). That is what is happening, if you would take time out of your busy day with balloon animals to realize!

      1. Normally local police assist with crowd control in similar situations. Whatever, its size, the Minny police did not do this. If I’m not mistaken, additional ICE agents were sent in as a result.

      2. “They cannot enforce immigration laws (thank you Obama administration for ensuring states can’t enforce that federal law)”
        A different Anon
Don’t forget, the Biden admin reinforced those rulings against Texas and Arizona when the border states tried to enforce their internaitonal border, mostly by keeping a dangerous river from being crossable.
Only the federal government can enforce immigration, per the Dems. Yet another case of their rules biting them.

    2. Who give’s a rats patoot about paid leftist agitprops and mean old lesbian activists ( also paid ) ????. They are pushing the envelope of violence and interfering with Illegal scum getting deported .

  15. “no conscience way”. Maybe the Representative does not know the meaning of “conscience.” It may help explain the manner by which she has amassed personal wealth.

The threat said, “It’s simple, we kill JD Vance,” and allegedly was posted by an online user who was a radio host for the station that long has worked on a reputation for being a community voice.

  17. The videos showed a scene typical of a terrorist attack: masked thugs shooting someone to death and walking away from the crashed car as though nothing had happened, continuing to give orders. The principal question is: should executive officers of the United States of America (note: not of a banana republic!) behave like masked thugs?

    1. Have you ever, even once, been critical of antifa wearing masks? How about students on campus? How about anti-ICE “warriors”? Your hypocrisy is weird.

    2. They are not masked thugs. The are dealing with violent criminals that murder the police and their familes in the countries they come from. Everyone of those countries masks their officers to prevent them and their families from being murdered in retribution. No officer or his family should have to risk being murdered because he is doing his legal job. Remember these laws were written by, vote in by, and signed by both Democrats and Republicans before the Democrats went full communist.

      1. Thank you for posting this. I’ve seen this list on several websites including pictures of these illegal animals who have invaded our country. What’s absolutely astounding is how many people there are like Klaus. I would welcome with open arms any law enforcement arresting criminals in my community including illegal invaders

    4. Klaus –

I am embarrassed for you. That is not what the entire video shows. You either know that and refuse to admit it, or have willfully chosen to remain shockingly ignorant.

Also, I do not get this weird fetish that the extreme left has with “masks, unmarked cars, and no identification.” Unmarked cars and plain clothes cops are normal in almost every large city in America (and parts of Europe). DEA regularly wears masks in their enforcement operations. Nothing here is extreme, odd, or even questionable. The fact that there are cameras everywhere is awesome! So when people like you spew lies, the truth is readily available for other people to actually utilize their brains and see that you are a liar!

    5. ICE agents started wearing masks when they started being doxxed. Hakeem Jeffries even stood on the floor of the House of Representatives and stated he would dox ICE agents. This practice places the agents and their families at risk. Is it any surprise that they’re wearing masks? That said, the protesters were also masked.

    6. You posted the same thing yesterday. Can you try to at least spread out your copy and paste to several days in-between.
      Thank you

    7. I think KK is a sniveling German. Keep in mind KK, as a German you have no idea or concept about US law enforcement.

The principal question is: should executive officers of the Federal Republic of Germany behave like thugs towards conservatives’ human rights in the EU?
