“How Silly It Would Be”: Columbia Student Writes on Why She Did Not Report Her Own Gang Rape To Protect Them

Columbia PhD candidate, Anna Krauthamer, has caused a stir over her column in the far-left Nation on “Why I Didn’t Report My Rape.” The reason? Krauthamer is a prison abolitionist and wanted to protect her rapists, saying it would be “silly and strange” for her to subject these rapists to the carceral state. Instead, she allegedly allowed multiple rapists to potentially rape other women.

In her column, Krauthamer alleged that she was gang raped in a Las Vegas hotel room for several hours. She explained that she “never did anything about it” and  “the simple answer to the question of why I never reported the rape is that I believe in the abolition of police and prisons.”

She added:

“The prospect of being a participant in other people’s incarceration is as alien to me as anything could be, to the point that I can only conceive of it in childish terms – how silly and strange it would be to have a group of people incarcerated at my expense when doing so would do nothing to fix the damage they have already so thoroughly done.”

Rather than having concerns about future victims, Krauthamer said that these rapists would be the victims of a carceral state: “I don’t want to ruin the lives of my rapists, and I don’t know if they have children. The only thing I want is for them to have never done what they did to me – and nothing, including sending them to prison, will ever change that reality.”

Whether you call it virtuous or virtue-signaling, the suggestion is that rapists would never be sent to prison for their crimes in a nation without prisons. This is a PhD candidate at a leading university. She is not alone. Some faculty members have espoused the same anarchist position. In places like Columbia, this absurdist position is considered intellectually valuable while the faculty has largely purged any conservatives and libertarians from their ranks.

What is particularly astonishing is that, according to her X profile, Krauthamer is a PhD candidate working on “sexual violence & contemporary fiction.”

  1. Having personally known victims of this type of crime, I’m fairly confident she’s lying, and that begs a different perspective. The willingness of so many in her cohort to lie or worse is absolutely sociopathic behavior; it’s just a game to them.

These people are simply not well, and I honestly don’t know what we do about such widespread mental instability or when we have people running for office in our own country doing their best Khrushchev impressions, with some of them winning thanks to people like this ‘student’. This is not good, folks.

    1. This lady needs help, lots of mental health. My guess is she’s had liberal education but lacks the common sense of self-worth. Maybe a talk with her parents is in order.

      1. Her parents probably had a great deal to do with causing her issues. A talk with them might be pointless at best.

    2. Social media are an addiction to some people. It makes them neurotic like alcoholics. Psychologists need to prescribe abstinence for people who act like this.

      1. @Diogenes

Very, very much agreed. 👍🏼 And kids should not be allowed anywhere near smartphones until they are at *least* 16.

    3. “. . . I’m fairly confident she’s lying . . .”

      I’m not so sure.

Hers is the party that normalizes child genital mutilation. It’s not much of a stretch to normalize protecting one’s rapists.

      1. Murderous hypocrisy even. Bringing guns to a civil-disobedience effort and running over LEOs and blaming the LEOs for handing out Darwin Awards.

        1. Oh oh, the two fools are discussing today’s piece. And the best hullboob can offer is “what a great question” and can’t answer the question.

    1. . In such a case the act is- The Lion Tamer. Go get some lunch big boys. I’m not mad.

      Smash, smash, SAMASH

  2. Wow! This is so absurd. People form societies to secure their rights, not to surrender them. A system that protects violators by stripping protection from the innocent isn’t humane, it’s dystopian. That this is treated as serious scholarship tells you how far elite institutions have drifted from first principles.

    1. . Look at her topic– sexual violence in CONTEMPORARY FICTION.

Presumably the dark novel ends in murder of all lawbreakers. It’s valid because tv shows, movies are made of exactly that. She’s removing police in her fiction. These dystopias already exist in the underworld. Good exposure, huh?

  3. I thought for sure that after the NGO complex, media and academia successfully normalize trannies, the next item on the progressive wish list would be legalizing consensual incest.

I always figured the few progressives who actually have traditional family formations and pro-create would care enough about their own daughters that they would resist legalizing pedophilia and rape. Guess I was wrong.

Who had legalizing rape as the next progressive project to destabilize Western society?

  4. First of all I don’t believe this woman because there isn’t an ounce of trauma or any warnings for other women, her allies in “the struggle”, on how or what to do to help avoid this horrific situation. But then again by not reporting the attack she is putting her allies in future peril.

Here comes Mr X, George to say that A) Turley should write about something different, B) rape is due to Trump and C) the woman is right to not sent rapists to prison because they might end up getting raped and therefore she is helping to stop rape.

The good thing is that when X/George does comment I won’t read it since I took Upstate Farmer’s advice and I stopped reading all Mr X’s inane comments.

    1. “The good thing is that when X/George does comment I won’t read it since I took Upstate Farmer’s advice and I stopped reading all Mr X’s inane comments.”

And yet here your are wasting 50+ words about it, raging about some anon. character, claiming you won’t/don’t read his comments. You do realize you are an insufferable idiot. That that farmer too. Two of the most truly dumbest commuters here.

        1. Hullslobby…, it couldn’t be more obvious that you and the farmer read anon comments here for the rage spark they provide for your addled brain cells. Kind of like jumpstarting a car.

            1. I wrote that I am a (retired) lawyer once a long time ago and yet you never seem to forget it?? Degree envy is as ugly as any other envy and you are proof of it.

Plus it isn’t a “claim”, it is a fact. I don’t need to embellish my life or my memories because it has been a great life filled with great memories.

              1. A long time ago? Like the 1500’s? You lack intelligence so its impossible you were ever a lawyer. Um.. so why don’t you prove it?

                1. Ha, like I am going to “prove” my level of education to some anonymous troll.

BTW, I think T. More is really Talk More and is also another MR X account.

                2. Dad…please come home. The docs have told you venting your rage in these pages will not overcome the family guilt. And you never showed up for the granny’s paternity testing so why do you ask others to prove anything? Your family’s gene pool is shrinking because of you…and we need your support.

        2. Got a problem with that? You make yourself a target (for the obvious lack of intelligence) with every word you write. You’re either stupid or … a moron.

  5. Got admire STUPID MORON LEFTIES that actually walk the NUTTY TALK!! She needs to be their new LEFTIE QUEEN and lead them to the promised land of Raping, Murder, Pillaging, and total Anarchy! Long Live the QUEEN or at least until she is raped and murdered (sarcasm here you idiots) by her cult followers! Just nuts.

  6. Her conclusion is so over the top narcissistic I find it astounding, and as a woman I find it frightening. This fruitcake’s major is what??? She must have only studied the “fiction” aspect. She apparently has no clue about the behavior patterns of the sexual predators who allegedly attacked her…. they did it once, they’ve probably done it before, and they will most definitely do it again. But, that doesn’t matter, it’s all about how her own emotional reaction to law enforcement and prisons. Pathetic.

  7. I don’t agree with her, but I don’t think the thesis is “absurd”. I have often wondered what would happen if we just abolished the whole criminal justice system, a question that can legitimately arise because the one we have functions so poorly. Do you think people think about robbing, or killing, but then stop themselves because it’s illegal and they will likely get sent to prison? That’s a fantasy. If there were no such prospects, the same people who would rob or kill would still rob or kill, and the vast majority of people would not. The justice we so often fail to provide in the current system might be handed out some other way. There was little “law enforcement” in what we used to call the “wild west”, but the civilization survived. Again, I don’t agree with her, I think the sovereign has, and ought to have, some prerogatives related to punishing crime. But we do a terrible job of ensuring the accuracy of our process. The way I sometimes put it is that the police are right, or substantially right, 75-80% of the time and the reason the rest of the system exists – all the lawyers, judges, trials, appeals, post conviction proceedings, etc. – is to catch the other 20-25%, and the system catches virtually none of it. If engineers did as poor a job, buildings and bridges would be constantly falling down. That willful incompetence is one of the reasons libertarians can refer to the “carceral state”: the whole system is so arbitrary and truth-challenged.

    1. Go ahead stop the whole crimminal process. I can defend myself. Small print warning: Social unrest and chaos to follow end of crimminal process

      1. “Go ahead stop the whole crimminal process. I can defend myself. Small print warning: Social unrest and chaos to follow end of crimminal process”

Exactly. Concise version of what I wrote below.

    2. “I have often wondered what would happen if we just abolished the whole criminal justice system”

For one example of an answer to the question you asked, someone who thinks that rape is unacceptable, and wants to do everything possible to discourage it, might bully Krauthamer to learn the identities of her rapists, and then kill them. I think that in theory, pure anarchy could work, but only among a group of people who very much share beliefs, goals, and other societal ideals. I’m skeptical that such a group could exist in reality; we certainly do not have that in the US. Otherwise, you need some way to enforce the basic rules of a society, even if those rules are minimal (which is what I espouse). What we have right now is ugly, but do not kid yourself that it could not be worse.

  8. Further proof that the more letters you have after your name the more likely it is that you are a stupid moron.

  9. Since this happened in Vegas, I’m willing to wager that this woman was not raped, and if she had sex with multiple people, it was consensual. On a side note, if there were no prisons there would be a lot more dead criminals because victims (and their families) would still seek justice.

  10. It appears the publication, the Nation, took her at face value without any level of vetting. Where is that Disinformation Czar when she’s needed?

  11. Rape is often accompanied by murder. I am skeptical of her claim. Her attitude and willingness to publicize such an event doesn’t indicate she suffered any trauma as a result. Her Phd topic of study just fits too neatly into her claim. She may be just looking for attention which it appears she achieved.

    1. Agree. How convenient that someone in her “academic” space would be gang-raped and then she refuses to report it.

  12. So, evidently, she’s not a “gang rape abolitionist”… Maybe not even a “murder abolitionist”. I wonder what other things she believes is OK to allow other innocent people to go through as long as criminals aren’t punished.

  13. There was a Bloom County cartoon from the “80’s where a lawyer was arguing for bail. The judge granted the bail conditioned on the defendant being housed at the lawyer’s home. Perhaps instead of prison, we could house criminals at the homes of prison abolitionists.

      1. Mercy for criminals? Why? They have done an evil act. Punishment is required. Did her rapist tell her that they would never do that to anyone else in the future and they pinky swore?

HOW OUT OF ONE’S MIND MUST YOU AND THAT WOMAN BE? You rather trust your abuser than to ensure no other person can be a victim of theirs. This is borderline selfish and deserving of involuntary commitment. By not seeking to have them arrested, she has all but guaranteed another victim. Someone else has a high probability of being a victim unnecessarily because she, a woman who claims to be getting a PhD (to which I demand whatever school she is attending to rescind her degree), needs to be alarmed by what she is displaying… that getting a degree doesn’t make one smarter. She is showing the opposite.

    1. The woman is clearly experiencing some form of aftershock. But she could also be lying (most likely) to get attention for a later book deal. I don’t buy into her fraud.

      1. Read that Colbert and Kimmel are vying for her appearance. I’m personally rooting for The View to get her first.

        1. “I’m personally rooting for The View to get her first.”

I wouldn’t be surprised if The View members want her to coach them on how to become attractive enough to be a gang rape target…

          1. Yes, women who are hat ugly, inside and outside, would be grateful for the attention.
