“How Silly It Would Be”: Columbia Student Writes on Why She Did Not Report Her Own Gang Rape To Protect Them

Columbia PhD candidate, Anna Krauthamer, has caused a stir over her column in the far-left Nation on “Why I Didn’t Report My Rape.” The reason? Krauthamer is a prison abolitionist and wanted to protect her rapists, saying it would be “silly and strange” for her to subject these rapists to the carceral state. Instead, she allegedly allowed multiple rapists to potentially rape other women.

In her column, Krauthamer alleged that she was gang raped in a Las Vegas hotel room for several hours. She explained that she “never did anything about it” and  “the simple answer to the question of why I never reported the rape is that I believe in the abolition of police and prisons.”

She added:

“The prospect of being a participant in other people’s incarceration is as alien to me as anything could be, to the point that I can only conceive of it in childish terms – how silly and strange it would be to have a group of people incarcerated at my expense when doing so would do nothing to fix the damage they have already so thoroughly done.”

Rather than having concerns about future victims, Krauthamer said that these rapists would be the victims of a carceral state: “I don’t want to ruin the lives of my rapists, and I don’t know if they have children. The only thing I want is for them to have never done what they did to me – and nothing, including sending them to prison, will ever change that reality.”

Whether you call it virtuous or virtue-signaling, the suggestion is that rapists would never be sent to prison for their crimes in a nation without prisons. This is a PhD candidate at a leading university. She is not alone. Some faculty members have espoused the same anarchist position. In places like Columbia, this absurdist position is considered intellectually valuable while the faculty has largely purged any conservatives and libertarians from their ranks.

What is particularly astonishing is that, according to her X profile, Krauthamer is a PhD candidate working on “sexual violence & contemporary fiction.”

  1. “What is particularly astonishing is that, according to her X profile, Krauthamer is a PhD candidate working on ‘sexual violence & contemporary fiction.’” …. There couldn’t be a meaner, more inappropriate and vulgar, joke on women.

So, how does Krauthamer’s stone-age mentality square with abortion? If rape is all right [to be protected for very liberal and virtuous reasons), doesn’t the possible product of such sanctioned-rape (a conception) deserve at least the very same kind of PhD rationale, a liberally strong defense? — Now, that would truly BE progressive, but these people aren’t progressive: they blind and rigid followers of a return to the primitive and absurd.

    1. Maybe her backers can get her to publicly let her get raped by 10, 20, or 100 foreigners. And then write a thesis about. She’s obviously a fraud, a liar and seeks media attention, fame and fortune. Maybe a FriendsOnly gig, it’ll pay the rent and then spend the rest on … Anyway, I joking, but I believe she is truly sick in the mind.

    2. . Conquering hordes used this. Recall the movie Braveheart. I’ve watched movies, too!

Often the babies were killed right after birth. Yes, the primitive world.

    3. . Not bad, anon. Perhaps she’s an existentialist and the genre is realism? Just not enough information. A problem does exist when perversion is masked by existential realism. A form of blindness is then created.

  2. Given that she acknowledges the existence of rapists and rape victims, claims to be committed to keeping rapists out of jail, and is aware that few if any women share such commitment (as evidenced by the publishing of her essay), her path to credibility is not through the sharing of her opinions with the public but the sharing of her body with as many rapists as is humanly possible. She could form Hump for Humanity; seek volunteers and donors. But she’s not doing that, is she? Instead, like the thousands of other faux victims who ruin lives and waste police resources, she’s pursuing her self-interests in a way that can only happen in a culture that’s lost its way.

  3. She is working toward a PhD in “contemporary fiction” and sexual violence. AI defines “contemporary fiction” as “a literary genre that includes stories set in the current day, focusing on current themes and issues”. I’ll bet this story of sexual violence, likely fictional, will serve as the framework of her PhD thesis. Wanna bet she also wants her college student loans cancelled?

  4. Hey Lady (Krauthamer) wake up! We all live in a “Carceral State”, some just more than others.
The Deep State Overlords have you under Lock & Key, Welcome to Twenty-Twenty Six (2026).

  5. Perhaps this PhD candidate should conduct her study in Mogadishu, where the abolition of prisons and enforcement is not a theory but a lived reality. There, the consequences of such ideas are borne by ordinary people, not debated safely in seminar rooms. Otherwise, this reads less like serious scholarship and more like mugging for a Hollywood pitch. Either way, it isn’t doctoral-level reasoning; it’s the kind of claim a doctoral thesis should analyze, not advance.

Screenplay summary: In a near-future society seduced by radical academic theory, prisons are abolished and enforcement dismantled in the name of justice. As order collapses into militia rule, no-go zones, and predation, the celebrated intellectual behind the idea is forced to navigate the very world her theory created. What begins as moral certainty ends as a brutal lesson in why civil society exists at all, as ideology collides with consequence in a landscape closer to Mogadishu than the seminar room.

I have from time to time suggested we air drop them into Cambodia, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, or Yemen (or choose your own favorite hotbed of despotism) with no phones, ID (including no passports), credit cards, cash, and see how they fare, and what they think about their lived utopia.

      1. James, I think we’ve all floated some version of that thought experiment at one time or another. Take away guaranteed enforcement, secure property, and the institutional order they quietly rely on, and see how long those ideals survive in lived reality. How long does personal property remain personal? How quickly does force replace norms? History already answers these questions, which is precisely why such ideas are always advanced from places insulated by law, order, and security they did not create.

    2. Perhaps this unintelligent and unrefined PhD’s fiction [and mindset] can cross with the “Handmaid’s Tale,” where [her] sanction of sexual degeneracy is protected, accepted and enjoyed, perhaps even competitively ….

Krauthamer’s PhD rationale is not only backwards and stupid, befitting the dark ages, it’s dangerous.

    3. . Yep, they’re everywhere and coming here soon.

They’re criminals. This must be prison world itself, Ms Krauthamer.

  6. With her PhD subject, it sounds like her marketable skills will be close to zero, particularly if she’s going to be a prison abolitionist, which is likely less than a 1% position in society. Thus, she might need to earn “influencer” dollars by fabricating a past with stories like this. Sorry, not buying it. She made it up, IMO.

    1. It seems to me that Ms. Krauthamer is just following the advice of one of our candidates for governor of Texas from a few years ago: He said that in a case of rape one should just lie back and enjoy it.

    1. . We must be channeling a similar frequency. For two days I’ve been thinking about the sudden surge of hysteria and women in congress.

Diogenes, not one female can pull out her draft card. It’s a fundamental difference between the male and female. If all women had draft cards in the US we’d never enter another war. We’d eventually be a doormat nation thrown into a backroom and shrouded.

Females are the screeching, whistle blowing hysteria driving this chaos. There are a few level headed, rational females but not enough to make a difference in conduct.

Two lesbian women baiting cops with I’m not mad and go get some lunch big boys get themselves shot.

      Estrogen poisoning

    2. @Diogenes

Yup, guess ‘Me Too’ and Christine Basely Ford (who has magically disappeared into the mist) was just a canard, huh?

Given the logic presented by this idiotic child, she should have been absolutely *in love* with the false image of Kavanaugh that was presented, but as we all know that was not the case for them. These people are indeed sick, and it’s the kind of logic that isn’t (often by design, IMO).

This person is just too young and stupid to realize how she is being used; she is being exploited, alright, just not in the way she’s lying about. I don’t know that philosophically, it’s any better.

    1. @OLLY

Ah, but *modern* doctoral level reasoning is precisely what it is. Modern degrees, particularly the advanced variety, seem to simply be transaction receipts that verify one’s indoctrination was paid for. It’s a joke, but make no mistake, this IS a modern doctoral program, and is absolutely representative of same. Recall that Obama said, to wit, that you may as well not exist in society if you do not go to one of our indoctrination centers (specifically, to paraphrase: ‘A college degree is the new high school diploma.’).

In a perverted sense, and because if we don’t laugh we’ll scream, given how low skill levels are for those now matriculating, he was right, just not in the manner he implied.

  7. Like other commentators, I am skeptical of the story. Even if she is a dedicated opponent of incarceration (she would probably approve of incarceration of political opponents), she could at least name her attackers so they would at least be shamed by the rest of society.

  8. This story, if true, is stunning. It reveals this lady to be so narcissistic and self centered that she seems to be totally unable to realize the risk that she is dropping on other women. A risk that most would not want to bear. She sort of guarantees this outcome because she furthers the concept of no accountability for one’s acts. Either by her or her rapists. No accountability in most societies seems to result in worse and worse crime and conflict. We see governments who have no accountability to their people and to the nitemare of living under them . I would suppose history is not the subject of her PhD.

    1. . Her symptoms are similar to Stockhom Syndrome or she simply thinks rape is acceptable behavior in reality. Because she’s a female wanting rape, as E.Jean Carroll also stated, she’s concocting a structure for rape-at-random as acceptable not due incarceration.

Deletion of incarceration and police means each person takes action on their own a form of vigilante justice. Back to nature’s way – how creative. /s

    2. . Geb, she’s a non-reporter of crime and the underworld functions as such. Don mafia is another scenario of avoidance of police and incarceration. It’s very common in 3rd worlds.

Perhaps we can read her upcoming book and hear her rationale. Most likely it’s a fictionalized account and a common literary tool of this is a true story.

      Free speech

  9. Only two thoughts come to me on this. Totally psychologically broken or the rape was a fantasy she had so all good. What does she want to experience next – getting killed?

  10. I knew a young woman (early 20’s) who was raped during college. She was very pretty, outgoing, very smart and popular; a high school cheerleader. The trauma all but destroyed her. She disappeared from public life for years until she finally took her own life. Ms. Krauthamer displays no sign of such deep trauma which makes me skeptical of her claim. It is too coincidental that her area of study fits so neatly into her claim. It leads one to conclude that she is seeks attention and the mantel of victimhood. She diminishes all those who have suffered and often died as a consequence of brutal assault. They pay the price for her cavalier dismissal of such an event.

  11. She doesn’t know if the rapists have daughters they will rape or if they will introduce their children to alcohol and drugs in their formative years. Such compassion should not be overlooked.

  12. Bah, humbdinger!
This smacks of afterthought, not forethought.
As Anna Krauthamer and others seek to differentiate themselves from competitors who also seek visibility and attention in this widening market of media, publications, and forums, –the topics and premises become more bizarre and click-baiting; increasingly and necessarily more novel.
In the alternative, if she really had been sexually assaulted, in not reporting the incident, she might have been tempered by the reality that her “rapists” would reveal some things jurors might not want to hear… perhaps her provocative and/or equivocal invitation into her room, gestures, clothing, language, flirtation, substance abuse, etc.

Maybe, to get even more attention with novel ideas, we will see her in her Off Broadway production reenacting rape scenes on stage, then follows Act 3 script:
‘RAPIST’ at her knees, looking up at her in with pleading eyes: “But please please PLEEZE don’t throw me in that brier patch!”
ANNA K, smiling and smoothing back his hair: “I would not inflict that on you. I need to forgive myself some how. Let me think on this for awhile…”
Bottom line: it is hard to believe that her real motivation is to abolish incarceration for rapists. If, alternatively, she believes this, then we as a country are in a whole heap of trouble.

    1. . Non reporting crimes is standard practice in the underworld and 3rd 4th worlds. Talking to police is a death sentence.

Creative writing, free speech or she’s from the underworld, both?

There are writers unwilling to expose the truth. They wrote sci fi and fairy tales?

  13. This is the way they think on the left. Would she feel the same about a man who raped her thirteen year old daughter. Go ahead Hannibal Lecter feel free to fill out your dinner menu for the month. Aren’t the butterflies beautiful this time of year. Hey Ted Bundy we know you’re just a good boy at heart. Will there be opinion pieces written on leftist outlets condemning her train of thought on the train she experienced.
    Of course not.

  14. If this is not the perfect example of the perniciousness of the woke, nihilistic, prog ideology, then I would we be surprised. This is even more unhinged than 19 men flying planes into targets in order to achieve everlasting utopia with allah. This is mental illness of a masochistic type that will do one good. Blast this story across the nation in 2026 so that the still sane old dems and independents can witness just what a dem vote will inculcate into our culture to an even more lethal level. If this body of citizens cannot stop this assault on our nation and its inherent culture then, perhaps, we deserve to lose.

  15. Here’s a thought experiment: if prisons, enforcement, and incarceration are morally illegitimate, then why not test that vision in a contained, voluntary setting rather than impose it on an entire society? (Let’s create that on California’s Channel Islands.) We already know why. Because we don’t have to speculate about the outcome.

We can observe it wherever law is abandoned: no-go zones, rising violence, communities living in fear, and the innocent bearing the cost of protecting the lawless.

Civil society exists precisely to restrain those willing to violate rights so everyone else can live freely. A system that reverses that order isn’t humane or enlightened, it’s a return to the very conditions government was created to escape.
