Below is my column on Fox.com about Graham Platner’s withdrawal and the start of post-Platner politics in the Democratic Party.

This week, Democrats are fighting to keep Maine after shedding their morals.
The controversy in Maine over Graham Platner was a modern remake of the scene from “A Man for All Seasons” in which Sir Thomas More confronts Richard Rich, a former protege who lied in court to secure his conviction in exchange for being named attorney general of Wales. As Rich passes by, More asks: “For Wales? Why, Richard, it profits a man nothing to give his soul for the whole world … but for Wales!”
For Democrats, they might not even have Wales to show for their “profit.”
Platner withdrew from the race Wednesday night. Even with that decision, Democratic politicians will be wearing the mark of Platner for the rest of their careers after dismissing earlier allegations in their quest to take back power.
Of course, a Platner withdrawal from the Senate race could well prove an upgrade. After all, it is hard not to improve on an alleged Nazi-tattooed, Hamas-praising, veteran-bashing, sex-texting, Communism-embracing accused rapist. However, politicians such as Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Sheldon Whitehouse, Ro Khanna, and others will long wallow in a post-Platner party.
These Democrats led the mob against now Justice Bret Kavanaugh, insisting that women had to be believed. Whitehouse said he is “unimpressed” by the allegations from multiple women as “a lot of nothing.” He also reminded voters that one of the alleged victims is a Republican.
Warren was equally undeterred, bouncing on the stage with Platner while proclaiming that he was “My kind of man.” It did not matter that he was accused of rape and other abuse. He would deliver a major committee chair for Warren if they retook power.
As with Swalwell, the establishment moved to destroy Platner only after polls showed him unlikely to beat Sen. Susan Collins. Suddenly, the same pattern emerged. CNN and the Washington Post suddenly ran stories of new allegations just days before the deadline for Platner to voluntarily withdraw. The same candidates and media that downplayed the allegations earlier suddenly became a convention of Claude Rains in claiming to be “shocked, shocked” that yet another woman was raising the same allegations.
For Whitehouse, the new woman had the benefit of being liberal since apparently the alleged rape of Republican women was “seemed like a lot of nothing.”
The media also pushed back that there was no reason for them to have believed the earlier women before the polling changed.
Bulwark’s Michelle Goldberg at least acknowledged her role in the early press pump for Platner while calling for his withdrawal. Gone now is her gushing account in the New York Times of how he proved “nothing like the edgelord caricature I encountered online.” She added, “Platner is magnetic. Like Obama, he seems to promise a politics that is fundamentally progressive while going beyond debased partisan sniping.”
The Maine Democratic Party has announced that it will choose his replacement. After an anti-establishment election in which Platner won by 72 percent and crushed the sitting governor in fundraising, the Democratic Party announced that “We have repeatedly reiterated to Graham Platner’s team that they have no role in determining our next Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate.”
For many, it sounds like a Kamala Harris redux by the Democratic establishment, though they will hold a “convention” of 600 people to make the selection. The rhetoric could backfire.
The irony is that these politicians are drawing distinctions that would have been unthinkable just months ago. Ro Khanna insisted, after withdrawing his support and appearing at a rally for Platner, “I’ve been very clear that sexual assault or violence against women is a red line.”
The problem is that women had previously accused him of such violence, but Khanna endorsed him anyway. The goalpost moved higher and higher for women, where rape (involving a liberal woman) was now the red line for Democratic politicians.
The actual red line appeared to be polling that showed that Platner could not deliver his side of the Faustian bargain. He could not deliver Maine. Suddenly, again, women had to be believed and the party had to choose his replacement.
The greatest irony would be Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, who attracted national attention by pushing an unconstitutional effort to block Trump from the presidential ballot. Her disregard for constitutional values would be highly appealing to many in the party who want to take over the Supreme Court by packing it with an instant liberal majority.
Bellows previously campaigned on her unconstitutional actions as the ultimate “win-by-any-means” Democrat. After being roundly defeated in a run for governor (garnering only 20 percent of the vote), she could now run in the general without having run a true primary campaign.
Of course, Bellows also campaigned with Platner despite the earlier allegations but insisted that he should step aside for her.
It is all part of achieving real power. Just ask Richard Rich. Of course, it may profit these politicians nothing to give their souls for the whole world, but they may not even get Maine in the bargain.

In our district in Virginia, there are 7 primary candidates. No voter would know this since the Democratic Party leaders have only funded 1 candidate with TV ads.
If a voter doesn’t read newspapers or do their own research, your party leaders are taking that choice away from you.
Primary elections used to be a way for voters to choose their favorite candidates, without harming the general election. A Democrat or Republican would still vote for their party’s candidate in November.
Party leaders of both parties have taken this choice away from voters. It might explain why voters of all parties are really unhappy with political leaders. They aren’t listening to voters.
A better system would be “Ranked Choice Open Primaries” – you could vote for either or both parties, ranking your favorite to least favorite candidate. In this system it weeds out the extremist candidates of both parties.
The founder’s were on the tight track, the only people that should have the vote are citizens that pay taxes and citizens of service. Otherwise you have the recipients of the taxpayer dollars voting for another hand out. America is bankrupt.
I regret to confess that I agree totally with Prof. Turley. The carcinogenic influence of Woke has once again turned the Democrats against a valuable candidate with whom I agree on the most significant policy issues of this election year. That party is shrinking like the Wicked Witch.
They are hopeless. Defeating Democratic incumbents is a consummation devoutly to be wished.
There has never been a more favorable atmostphere for someone to run as an ‘old-school’ democrat as an alternative to the dems current madness.

Those politicians backed Mr. Platner for the simple reason that they wanted to flip the Senate – not for any philosophical or policy principle that they hold so dearly. Will they feel a modicum of shame for their actions? Probably not.

Old Fish, antisemitism has been around for over 3,000 years. Thomas Sowell wrote 3 books on culture and explains it and other anti-foreign animus on the ‘middlemen minorities.’ These words are close to, or exactly what he writes; I cannot be positive.

I don’t think America or Trump started war with Iran. I think Iran has been at war with the USA for the last 50 years. Courts are not there to decide if you are mean spirited, or a bully., They are there to determine if you violated the law – this case should not have seen the inside of a court room.
E. Jean Carrol failed to state a case that is falsifiable. That means it is impossible to weigh the evidence to determine if what she is saying might be true, which means the case boils down to politics and bias – not evidence and law. Such cases do not belong in court.

It is rare to see a self-styled alpha populist so thoroughly emasculated as we have just witnessed with Graham Platner.
Just last week they loved him. He was all the rage.
But Maine Democratic honcho Devon Murphy-Anderson, the Maine Democratic Party establishment, and Chuck Schumer were not having it when the upstart oyster farmer decided to press on after the latest rape allegation came to light.
Just like that, Murphy-Anderson and the posse tied him up politically and treated him like a caught burglar in Graham Platner’s Washington, D.C., apartment.
Broken and battered, Platner released a video Wednesday announcing that he is suspending his campaign against Republican incumbent Sen. Susan Collins, citing the withdrawal of support from party leaders and the Maine Democratic Party.
This time, it wasn’t just Maine Democratic voters who got it good and hard at the hands of the party establishment. Platner himself received the full gimp treatment from Washington, D.C., power brokers and their local enforcer by way of Florida.
Don’t complain, Graham.
Remember the words of a fake oyster farmer when posting on Reddit about women who get raped: Women should not “get so f***ed up they wind up having sex with someone they don’t mean to.” And women should “act like an adult, for f’s sake” to avoid rape.

Progressive leaders saw a candidate who could energize the base. National Democrats saw a possible path to a Senate seat. Activists saw a vessel for their agenda. The press saw a colorful anti-establishment storyline.
And Maine voters were expected to ignore the rest.
That is the hypocrisy at the center of the Platner debacle. Democrats did not suddenly discover standards. They discovered political liability.

What is espeically disturbing is ALL of this was known to key people months ago.
The current accuser was provided as corrorboration fro the original NYT story and was mentioned in that story – without details.
Platner should have been gone BEFORE the primary.
Further – as many have noted – this is not about violence against women or rape, or Nazi tattoos – if any of that matter to democrat leadership POlatner would have been gone long ago.
Pltaners support by democrat leaders died when it became clear he could not beat collins and that because obvious more than a week ago as Collins started closing in on Platner.
This story is an excuse to dump Platner just as Demntia was an excuse to dump Biden.

The republicans ran a guy that all the other candidates referred to as scum and untrustworthy and one of his fiercest detractors is now the spineless V.P.
In 2016, the Dems ran the only candidate that could have lost to him. And they did it by corruptly undermining Bernie.
By 2024, the Dems’ lawfare campaign against that person you hate had backfired. It had also resulted in an assassination attempt that backfired spectacularly and made that man more popular than ever, especially among minorities who saw a kindred spirit in his constant public hounding, and voted for him in record numbers.
One other thing the Dems did in 2024 that helped that man win. They corruptly hid their dementia patient’s true mental condition until after he was nominated, and it was in full public view during the debate. They reacted to that disastrous performance by corruptly forcing out the candidate virtually all of their voters had selected, and crowned a queen who got no votes at all, as their new nominee. They also helped that man by choosing as their crowned queen, a woman with zero political talent and an inability to articulate a coherent thought while on camera.
So, even though your hatred for our duly-elected President burns with a white-hot rage, ask yourself whether your rage should be redirected at your own corrupt party which made his presidency not only viable but virtually inevitable . . . TWICE.
The FBI torpedoed the Clinton campaign by releasing what turned out to be false information in the final weeks of the election process. Hillary lost the electoral college by a few hundred thousand votes; this after a decades long false information campaign by Republican billionaires. Sanders would have lost tremendously; he went in knowing he was a spoiler for Clinton and helped kneecap her. The anti-campaign would have told you he was not a Democrat, but a communist, just the same as they are doing with the Democratic Socialists now.
We won’t know about the assassination attempt because they killed the shooter, the son of a very conservative, Trump-positive family. What is it that gets the children of Republicans to do such monstrous things?
Trump cannot articulate what happened to a pool which he knows more about than everyone in the entire world. Kamala Harris’s problem with public speaking appears to be her thinking about all the facets of the problem at the same time, vs. Trump not thinking about anything at all. Trump has been stringing the same memorized speech for decades. Just hit the play button. Doesn’t matter the subject, Trump responds the same.
