“That’s What I Know”: 70-Year-Old Poet Slaps Turning Point Poll Worker in New Hampshire

If Boris Pasternak is right that “no bad man can be a good poet,” it does not say much for the work of Stephen Redic. The 70-year-old poet was caught on videotape verbally abusing a young Turning Point member in New Hampshire at a polling area and then slapping him. The victim did nothing to provoke Redic, who became unhinged by Rainer Vesey who was engaging bystanders with a chance to debate issues in this election. The videotape is another example of the rising rage where some irate voters believe that they have a license to engage in political violence.

Vesey was with his brother, Asher Vesey, from Old Lyme, Connecticut, when Vesey declared that he wanted “to read a poem about rich people.” What followed was a confrontation with Vesey as Redic raved about being challenged by the young man.

Redic appeared most upset by the mere fact that he was being questioned or doubted, declaring “You sit there, and dare to look me in the face, and say I don’t know anything?”

After waving the middle finger in the face of Vesey, he declares “That’s what I know.” It was a telling moment. What he knows is rage. In today’s siloed media environment, many read little about opposing views and have even less interaction with others from a different perspective. The result is that they become irate and even violent when suddenly faced with someone questioning their judgment.

This is precisely why Charlie Kirk created Turning Point. He simply went to campuses offering to debate people on the left. The invitation was often met with fury by those who see no room for dialogue on issues dividing our nation.

The rage seems to have transformed the poet who wrote “In the peace of our love/And cool shadows of our souls,/Sing me a lullaby/Softly and slow.”

This may be why another New England poet, Robert Frost, wrote about how “good fences make good neighbors.”

Redic is now charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct by the Laconia Police Department.

  1. OT; first purge of the Trump administration started. Harmeet Dillon Trump’s DOJ civil rights gal just quit.

Susan Wiles and Hegseth are likely to go too. Yikes.

  2. Notwithstanding the silly slap, I don’t see it so much as “rage.” Instead, I see it as the smug, supercilious condescension and fake superiority of a frustrated older man who is not getting the attention or respect that he believes he is worth.

And I daresay, I see it much more often in the Democrats, who view themselves as quite superior to the rest. It’s rather humorous. Unfortunate that this man did not take the time to engage and make the younger Vesey critically think about what the man said. Instead, I am sure, the younger Vesey simply laughed at the loss of all respect and regard for the man.

    1. x:

Not my kinda guy, for sure. But I am reminded of a true story years ago when I was in my 20s, over the Christmas holidays, in a public park with a frozen pond. The ducks and Canadian Geese were trying to peck holes in the ice along the shore to get sustenance. A very old man in a thick plaid flannel shirt had bought a few bakery rolls and was tearing them up and flinging pieces for the fowl to eat (which they did). A young woman (about my age) was standing nearby, yelling and cursing at him and engaged in her own soliloquy all about nature and survival and the filth in the water that the rotten bread would create when the ice thawed and how only the fittest survive, yada yada. He paused and looked at her for a minute, then waved his arm at her and said, simply, “You have a wooden head.”

I burst out laughing and have never forgotten his words. MY kinda guy.

  4. The Plaintiff, Katie Johnson, alleges she was enticed by promises of money and a modeling career to attend a series of underage sex parties held at the New York City residence of Defendant Jeffrey E. Epstein and attended by Defendant Donald J. Trump.
On the first occasion involving the Defendant, Donald J. Trump, the Plaintiff, Katie Johnson, was forced to manually stimulate Defendant Trump with the use of her hand upon Defendant Trump’s erect penis until he reached sexual orgasm.
On the second occasion involving the Defendant, Donald J. Trump, the Plaintiff, Katie Johnson, was forced to orally copulate Defendant Trump by placing her mouth upon Defendant Trump’s erect penis until he reached sexual orgasm.

    1. I beleive this is an old fake claim that was dismissed – As USUAL – no cites – no quotes – you make it real like something from a brief – but it is clearly not.

You say KJ alleges enticement – what does that mean – you can not make up your mind whether she was offered a job or was seeking a job – an actual promise is usualy something binding.

You say that KJ was forced – how so ? Did someone have a gun to her head ?

There is nothing in this that indicates when or where it occured.

    2. “The Katie Johnson lawsuit has resurfaced online with claims of recent settlements and new developments. The lawsuit was filed in June 2016, refiled in October 2016, then dropped in November 2016. There is no active case, no recent settlement, and no new legal developments in 2024 or 2025.” https://allaboutlawyer.com/katie-johnson-lawsuit-separating-fact-from-fiction-in-viral-claims/

Are you one of those low-intelligence, gullible Democrat squats who doesn’t understand the difference between fact and fiction?

    3. JFK, Monster

      By Timothy Noah

“I knew that John F. Kennedy was a compulsive, even pathological adulterer, given to taking outlandish risks after he entered the White House. I knew he treated women like whores. And I knew he had more than a few issues with his father about toughness and manliness and all that. But before I read in the newspaper that Mimi Alford’s just-released memoir, Once Upon A Secret: My Affair With President John F. Kennedy And Its Aftermath, described giving Dave Powers a blow job at JFK’s request and in his presence, I didn’t know that Kennedy had an appetite for subjecting those close to him to extreme humiliation.

  5. On the second occasion involving the Defendant, Jeffrey E. Epstein, the Plaintiff, Katie Johnson, was again forced to disrobe into her bra and panties while giving Defendant Epstein a full body massage while he was completely naked. The Defendant, Donald J. Trump, was also present as he was getting his own massage from another minor, Jane Doe, age 13. Defendant Epstein forced Plaintiff Johnson to touch his erect penis by physically placing her bare hands upon his sex organ and again forced Plaintiff Johnson to clean up his ejaculated semen after he achieved sexual orgasm.

    1. Again a bunch of unrooted claims from god only knows where, no times no dates no places, claims of force but no actual evidence of force.

And the core of your allegation is that Trump was present.

I would note that aside from your claim that KJ was FORCED to masterbate Epstain – nothing else you have described is illegal.

In fact if there was no FORCE – NOTHING you described is illegal

Aside from spin the claim here is that Trump was present when KJ – whom you do not allege is under age performed a sex act on epstain.

We have no reason to beleive this occured – but even if it did – that it was illegal.

You do not claim that someone pointed a gun at KJ.

You allege “force” – but at most you claim that “force” is some completely undocumented promise of a modeling job.

Your claim is not especially credible given that it is extremely well documented that Trump FORCED Epstain out of MAL because Virginia Guffrie alleged to Trump that Epstain was doing approximately what you described.

Further Trump not only FORCED epstain out of MAL but he called the opolice on him – and that resulted in the Florida prosecution and conviction of Epstain.

      1. John Say, wow, talk about “unrooted claims”. You posted a few doozies yourself.

        For example,

That Trump forced Epstein out of Mar-a-Lago (MAL) because Virginia Giuffre alleged to Trump directly that Epstein was abusing her.

        Nope. Not even close.

In 2003, a Mar-a-Lago spa manager sent Trump a formal memo detailing an incident where Epstein had sexually harassed or made inappropriate advances toward a female masseuse/beautician at the spa. It wasn’t Guiffre.

You claim that Trump “called the police on him – and that resulted in the Florida prosecution and conviction.”

        Wow. Not even close.

According to unsealed FBI files and a 2019 interview with former Palm Beach Police Chief Michael Reiter, Trump only called the police chief in July 2006—after the criminal investigation had already become public knowledge and Epstein was being indicted.

Everyone knows Trump is a liar. He didn’t want Epstein associated with him when he “found out” about the sexual abuse. Trump knew long before Epstein got caught. That’s why he’s fighting so hard to avoid releasing the files.

    2. did you see where Joe Biden own daughter wrote that her dad showered with her at 12 years of age?

Did you see that Clinton, Gates, and a long list of Democrats spent way more time with Epstein?

my question to you…why do you HATE America

      and why Democrats LOVE illegals?

    3. Dave Powers was sitting poolside while the President and I swam lazy circles around each other, splashing playfully. Dave had removed his jacket and loosened his tie in the warm air of the pool, but he was otherwise fully clothed. He was sitting on a towel, with his pants leg rolled up, and his bare feet dangling in the water.    The President swam over and whispered in my ear. “Mr. Powers looks a little tense,” he said. “Would you take care of it?”

It was a dare, but I knew exactly what he meant. This was a challenge to give Dave Powers oral sex. I don’t think the President thought I’d do it, but I’m ashamed to say that I did. It was a pathetic, sordid, scene, and is very hard for me to think about today. Dave was jolly and obedient as I stood in the shallow end of the pool and performed my duties. The President silently watched.

Afterwards, Alford says she was “deeply embarrassed,” and as she climbed out of the pool she “could hear Dave speak in as stern a tone as I ever heard him use with his boss. ‘You shouldn’t have made her do that,’ Dave said. ‘I know, I know,’ I heard the President say.

Later, a chastened President Kennedy apologized to us both.” Alford believes that Kennedy showed “his darker side … when we were among men he knew. That’s when he felt a need to display his power over me.” Kennedy didn’t just have a thing for Social Register girls; he had a thing for humiliating Social Register girls. He also had a thing for humiliating his fellow Irishman, Dave Powers.

  6. The elder man acted inappropriately and simply could have walked away. Likely he has had some rage issues in the past and this is a continuation of previous activity. A 2nd possibility is some early dementia which is often manifest by extreme paranoia or even rage with little incitement.

I commend the young man for taking the blow and not retaliating. Dangerous to hit an old man even if he does something provocative like this. They have a tendency to be unstable when standing and even a slap can cause them the hit the ground, usually with their head. May result in a closed head injury, intracranial bleeding and death. Often the blow seems minimal but the results can be catastrophic. Have seen too many of them over the years.

  7. I’m finding a date of birth of 20 November 1955. Do not know if accurate. He appears to be married. His wife appears to be about 10 years his senior. She may have been married from 1963 to 19?? to a Mr. Metevier. Mr. Metevier died in 1997 at the age of 60. I’m not finding any names sticking to the velcro which suggest either have children.

    ==

Another curio. All the addresses I find on him are down in Rockingham County, about 40 miles south of Laconia.

  8. Turley finds a random 70 year old “poet” who will rightly face consequences for what he did as an example of Leftist rage. Meanwhile – you’ve got Republican James Fishback – who ran for Florida govenor and who will likely run for President who said to a live audience that everyone in Texas needs to buy an AR-15 so that “when James Talafreako is banging on your door with one of his favorite drag queens” to take your child away, “they stare at the end of a rifle barrel.” Turley’s response? Crickets. Why doesn’t Turley call balls and strikes? I guess he’d lose his gig on Fox News and and some book sales. Turley is no different than Trump. It’s all about making she he maintains your attention and gets your money.

    1. “Turley finds a random 70 year old “poet” who will rightly face consequences for what he did as an example of Leftist rage. “

First – aside from a brief mention that this was a TP event and the discussion was on election issues – nowhere does Turley specify that Anyone was left or right.

YOU – with near certainty correctly concluded that a 70 year old violent poet on a college campus was a left wing nut.

But you did that entirely on your own – which is proof that even YOU know that left wing nuts tend to violence.

You did not assume the Poet was MAGA. or Pro Israel, or any of other non-left possibilities.

    2. If some random person comes to your home to take your child – your going to let them ?

Why is Turley supposed to “call out” a parent who is protecting their child from kidnappers ?

Do you actually think before you post ?

    1. As expected – this is a complaint that was dismissed – as I recall by NY courts over a decade ago because the plaintiff could provide no evidence the event occurred.

The acts described are not crimes unless actual force was used. While the plantiff – claims “force” – she provided no evidence of force. And in fact her own description of events undercuts claims of force.

She separately alleges that she engaged in sexual acts in return for promises of money or a modeling carreer – that is NOT force.

That might be prostitution. Regardless nowhere does KJ claim that a specific person – likely Epstain, made promises to her, or that Trump had any awareness of those promises.

n the light most favorable to KJ – masturebating others is legal. The link you provided claims this occured in 1994 and that KJ was 13 at the time – but YOUR post does not say that.

There are other problems – 13 year olds can not legally work – not as models or anything else without the permission of their parents.

The claim with respect to alleged promises is incredibly weak on its face.

Beyond that KJ provided no evidence to substantiate that what she alleged took place.

This case was dismissed for the same reason the EJC case should have been dissmissed – when a plantiff makes a claim it must provide sufficient evidence to allow the defendant to present a defence. I.E. the what, when, and where.

This is similar to the Blasely Ford nonsense

30 years ago something bad happened to me – I can not tell you when, or where – or really much of anything else, I am not even sure who was present – but I shoudl be allowed to prevail simply because I am making a disturbing allegation.

  9. What the Poet is missing is a proper ass kicking for opening up a can of “Whoop Ass!”. Instead of turning the other cheek when this kind of thing happens the assailant deserves to understand what FAFO truly means.

Evidently the Poet needs a lesson on Manners…one that is succinct, direct, clear, and enlightening….and one that might jingle some of his bells for him.

      1. PB – self defence is legal. If you initiate violence against another they are allowed to defend themselves with violence – there are limits, you can not use significantly more force than is needed to assure your (or others) safety. But it is NOT required that the force used in self defence is proportionate to the violence of the initiator – as an example if someone holds a knife against you – you can respond by shooting them.

  10. I’ll wager Mr. Radic has been loosely-wired for a while, perhaps exacerbated by alcohol or early-onset dementia.

  11. Why do you turn blind eyes to what your Orange Satan does, letting him get away with so much wrong-doing that is exponentially worse than the relatively petty things done by leftists that Turley likes to whine about?

    1. Number 1- President Trump wasn’t there. Number 2- Slapping someone across the face is not a “…relatively petty thing…” Number 3- Referring to the President as “Orange Satan” is disgusting.

    2. What kind of childish gibberish is that? You have no idea what a real dictatorship is like. I escaped one you twir. You have everything here. We were starving.we couldnt trust our neighbors. People who spoke out were killed in front of everyone.

    3. We are jaded – because left wing nuts have made so unbeleiveably many FALSE claims.

I am perfectly willing to left Trump get away with not having done the 10,000 bad things that those of you on the left have falsely claimed he has done.

And you do not seem to grasp that – your claims get taken seriously – the first time, less so the 2nd.

But the 10th time – only other left wing lunatics are listening.

If you want to be beleived – STOP LYING

When you establish a reputation as a liar – only idiots trust anything you say.

When you are caught over and over lying – people just assume you are lying again.

      1. John Say, you’re confusing Trump with the left. Trump is a prolific liar. He’s lied so much for so long that people don’t bother to even complain.

It’s weird because you described perfectly how Trump’s massive lying has been so effective with MAGA idiots. Occasionally you get swept in on his wild lies and obfuscations. It’s amazing to see how easily you buy into it.

You’re ok with lying. But not when the “left” does it as if you hold them to a higher standard. Trump lost this election for Republicans because not only for the lying but the blatant broken promises he made.

    1. We KNOW that a poet slapped somone at a public event because they did not like what was being said – this is a real even that happed recently that dozens of people observed, that there is video of and that resulted in an arrest and charges.

You expect us to give a 10 year old claim that was dismissed by the courts essentially for failure to state a claim about events that happened 20+ years early that the plantiff could not provide a time or a place or anything that would allow any kind of corroboration or any ability to defend.

Worse still nothing alleged on its face constitutes a crime. The plantif concurrently alleges force and inducement – those are not the same – provides no evidence of either force or inducement. Claims to have been underage at the time – which by itself poses problems 13yr olds can not have modeling carreers without their parents permission. Regardless he underage claim – requires proving the date at which the alleged crime took place.

And people lie about thei rage all the time

  12. Well,

Mr. Redic is going to learn about fines and probation. He is lucky return volley was not fired back at him, he may not have been so lucky as to walk away.

  13. I am waiting for the first s@@tlib to justify this and call anyone who disagrees a ‘nazi’.

After all “it’s ok to hit a nazi” and anyone who disagrees with the upcoming socialist utopia is one, right?

    antonio

    1. Redic is just another example of how unhinged leftists are. Just look at the trans guy assaulting a Republican or the woman attacking another woman for being pro-Israel while shouting she should of fing killed her. Just another day that ends in Y.

    2. In the sense that as president he has directed military actions that kill people.

      Regardless AGAIN

Government is FORCE – everything that government does is by FORCE or threat of FORCE.

If you are mayor, president, dog cathcer or police officer – everything you do is the use of FORCE or the threat of FORCE against others.

We have a constitution and laws to provide clear constraints on how that FORCE may be used.

      1. John, your argument reduces civil governance to a tired, oversimplified libertarian cliché.

True political authority is built on the Social Contract and public consent. If a government had to rely on raw, thuggish coercion for everything it did, it wouldn’t be a constitutional republic—it would be a military dictatorship.

This “force” libertarian trope has been peddled for years without much success. Because it’s pure nonsense. Sigh.
