In Breaking Bad, the character Walter White explains to a major drug dealer why cheaper knockoffs of his signature Blue Sky methamphetamine are just not enough: “So… it’s grade-school tee-ball vs. the New York Yankees. Yours is just some tepid… off-brand, generic cola. What I’m making is classic Coke.”
This week, James Carville released his own uncut, undiluted classic product to a nation of rage addicts. Blue Sky rage. What set off Carville was telling. He and others were outraged that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries met with Trump’s son-in-law and close adviser Jared Kushner to discuss areas of common ground. Such dialogue “with the enemy” is unthinkable in an “age of rage,” particularly for someone like Carville who previously threatened that, once Democrats are back in power, Trump supporters would be treated the same way as Nazi collaborators after World War II.
Carville went into his signature berserker trance on his podcast appropriately called the “Politics War Room”: “These people are a pack of felons and traitors, and you do not meet with them! You do not meet with them. There’s only one thing you can do with people that you genuinely believe deep inside of every fabric of your body are a pack of thieves and a pack of traitors.”
As usual, Carville delivers the line with the intensity of a man seconds away from a self-induced stroke. The message, however, is clear. Anyone seeking a middle ground or compromise is a traitor and will be dealt with the same way as collaborators once Democrats regain power.
What is really on display is rage politics. When you feed this addiction, you have to keep your product pure to avoid the pain of rage withdrawal. Carville is asking Democrats the same question as Walter White in whether they really want some cheap knockoff when they can have the real thing. Go with the classic. Go with the rage.
Over on the social media safe space for liberals, BlueSky, Carville is being heralded as a prophet of furor. It was a perfect combination. BlueSky was created for liberals to remove themselves, particularly from X, because of conservatives returning to social media after years of censorship.
The media billed BlueSky as the future, as many predicted the rapid death of X. It did not exactly work out that way. Many liberal influencers proclaiming their abandonment of X never actually left and many others have returned. BlueSky is now little more than a progressive boutique in comparison to X. It has an estimated 43 million users as opposed to as many as 600 million for X. (Monthly active users drop to around 27 million versus more than 300 million).
Yet, the business model of BlueSky is to offer a protected zone for liberals to rave amongst themselves without the distraction of as many opposing views or voices.
It is a social platform that is premised on the same “you do not meet with them” screed of Carville.
Recently, Carville has lashed out at the far left of his party, such as Democratic Socialists, over their radical agenda. However, he and other establishment figures are primarily objecting to the fact that these radical policies will not succeed in the election and return them to power.
Carville has no problem trashing the system to secure and maintain power. He previously called for packing the Supreme Court, but notably told Democrats not to actually talk about it: “If the Democrats win the presidency and both houses of Congress, I think on day one, they should expand the Supreme Court to 13. F—k it. Eat our dust. Don’t run on it. Don’t talk about it. Just do it.”
Other Democratic leaders continue to try to co-opt the mob for their own uses. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer dismissed questions about the DSA platform in eliminating the presidency, the Supreme Court, and the Senate. These are small differences, according to Schumer, compared with the need to win elections: “Not everyone has the same exact view on every single issue.”
One of those small disagreements is the very existence of the institution that Schumer so desperately wants to lead.
Carville and Schumer, however, appear to agree on the key element of the political strategy in keeping the rage alive. The greatest threat to that strategy is any dialogue of Democrats with their Republican neighbors. If reason were to break out before the elections, all could be lost.
The effort reflects the fact that the rage in an age of rage eventually burns off. People look into a mirror on both sides and realize that we have become grotesque and Carvillian by yielding to the anger and hate. Once people start to talk again, it is harder to hate so completely and blindly that hate traffickers need.
So Blue Sky rage is hitting the streets. The Classic coke of hate to be injected directly into the veins of a nation of rage addicts.
After all, as Walter White asked his fellow traffickers, “Do you really wanna live in a world without Coca-Cola?”

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth fired Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George shortly after George was told to stand down on a probe of the controversial Army helicopter flyover near Kid Rock’s home, according to a new report—part of a series of departures under Hegseth that have left staffing holes in the military.

Today’s piece is just another effort by Turley to downplay the outrageousness of Donald J. Trump, his incompetence, his corruption, his lies and his profiteering off of the presidency. Turley tries to write off as irrational “rage” the negative opinion the majority of Americans, and a growing number of Republicans have formed over Trump. The lying never ends. The abuse of power never ends. The corruption never ends. The damage to our economy and relations with our allies, including Canada, our closest ally, never ends. Now we are in a trade war. I have said before that I worked with James for over a year in a Texas Democrat campaign in the early 1980’s. He came in as the Co-Campaign Manager. He was a wonderful hardworking, shy, quiet, man with impeccable Southern manners. We both had deep Louisiana roots and talked about that from time to time. I was born in Louisiana and my paternal grandfather had worked for Huey Long, and “invented” the first sound trucks used in political campaigns in the 1920’s and 30’s (supposedly the first in the nation).
I would occasionally make James some chicory coffee at the campaign headquarters, which he appreciated. In May, 2008, when I quit the Democrats after 40 years of working in that party, the one truth I left with was that James Carville was the hardest-working political staffer I had ever known. Period. Most mornings, he usually ran about 6 or 7 miles before he came to the headquarters. He was always serious-acting, but very gracious and kind, and quiet. (Paul Begala also worked with us on that Texas campaign, his first one…….a nice kid, but very impressionable and not too bright)
Anyway, I’m sad to see what James has become. I prefer to remember him the way he was when he was just starting out.

TDS is also the inability to discern or to not care about someone who constantly lies about everything, to ignore reality, like higher prices for everything, like Trump being dedicated to self-glory and trying to alter the White House and monuments for self-glory,* to ignore the decimation of the relationships forged over decades with our allies and trading partners, to fail to appreciate how serious it is to start a war without any clear end point in sight, to lie about the reasons, to lie about nonexistent “success”, to try to rig the midterms, to try to rule like a king via Executive Orders, to try to prevent voting by mail by manipulating the Post Office to get involved in deciding who is allowed to receive a mail ballot—the list goes on and on. No other president has ever acted like this, and it has been less than 2 years. Trump is one thing–he is mentally ill–a narcissistic sociopath–but Republicans are not. They refuse to comply with their oath to protect and defend the Constitution.

Ex-Democrats are always interesting to listen to. They always have specific dates and reasons for their change of heart. I remember the day when I dumped socialism and began my journey toward conservative populism. Been conservative for about 40 years, and for the last 20 years, I’ve been a conservative populist. That’s when I foresaw the debris field of globalist/leftism.
Diogenes – very interesting. I have a similar timeline. I was never a socialist, just a regular old liberal Democrat until around 40 years ago. One major factor in my change of heart: I studied economics and realized that the smartest people were not liberals, they were the free-market Austrian types. That shook me out of my liberal brain coma, and only then did I also start noticing the cultural destruction caused by the Left, not to mention the nastiness and pure emotion coming from the Left, and how it contrasted with the general level-headedness and logical thought on the right. On virtually ever topic, I realized, conservatives were making more sense than liberals. I’m home now and will never go back.

Diogenes – during the misery index I was a teenager, my liberal-Democrat parents had elite academic jobs buffered from the economy, and their misinformation about economics was the only input I got. As a high schooler, I was interested in cars and girls, not economics. I was out on my own for a few years before I realized that, while my parents were good people, their ideas on economics and culture were 100% wrong.

I always had my doubts about globalism, and 20 years ago, I had seen enough. I became a populist conservative, but I didn’t become a Democrat. The GOP became me. So should you.
Forty years ago, too, although the Dems were wrong on most things, they were not totally nuts. Now we can add to all that their support for things like men in women’s sports, locker rooms, and showers, drag queen story hour for kindergarteners, gay porn in elementary schools, chopping off kids’ genitals, abolish the police, erase the borders, pack the Supreme Court, kill domestic energy production, suppress conservative speech by colluding with social media companies and establishing a Ministry of Truth, mask young children which has no health benefit at all and leads to anxiety and mental health issues, impose vaccine mandates directly contrary to “my body my choice,” assassinate conservative commenters, late-term abortion and even infanticide, supporting terrorists like Hamas and Hezbollah, assault Jews on college campuses trying to get to class, racism in the form of CRT, cultural Marxism, convert late-night comedy into angry partisan diatribes, assassinate the candidate for President from the opposing party, assassinate that same person after he becomes president, assassinate health care executives . . . and now with DSA we can add: support socialism, abolish the Senate, abolish the Presidency, and abolish prisons, and “from the river to the sea” (i.e., genocide the Jews). Any Dem who time traveled from 1960 to now would think their party’s current positions on such matters was a joke. But, alas, it is not a joke. They mean it.

Diogenes, 40 years ago, was the Ronald Reagan administration. I was born a Democrat like you and Oldman. I was a registered Democrat most of my life, but I realized I was independent. I was a fiscal conservative but not political. In 1980, the words of Milton Friedman told me what I stood for. Earlier, Kennedy scared me. His youth and cockiness almost got us into WW3. Reagan showed peace through strength, so I voted for him in his first term, while Obama proved to me Democrats were worthless and dangerous. Prejudice was waning under Obama, but he made sure racism would never die.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro is pushing to radically rewrite his state’s health code to give his administration authoritarian police powers as he seeks re-election.
The Democrat’s proposed change would give Pennsylvania’s Department of Health centralized police powers under the guise of “disease control measures,” including the ability to enter homes and schools without a warrant, access confidential medical records, and impose statewide school mask mandates for disease prevention. The Department of Health reports to the governor’s office, meaning this change would give Shapiro — and his successors — the ability to single-handedly implement draconian policies across the state.
“The administration’s proposed new regulations on mask mandates and communicable diseases are deeply concerning,” Pennsylvania lawmaker Michele Brooks told The Daily Wire. “These include catch-all authority to impose masking, distancing, and virtually any other disease-control measure it wants, a statewide vaccine database with mandatory reporting, authority to restrict attendance at funerals, and extraordinarily broad powers to monitor private health information and enter private property.”

Public discourse was moderated, edited, and filtered — not by government — but by a widely dispersed array of mature, highly-educated adult professionals. Then, along comes Mark Zuck and Jack Dorsey around 2007 with their mantra of “connecting people”, a euphemistic way to conceal their funder’s zeal for hyper-scaled profits by re-engineering the public square to corner the market on advertising. The side effect was to eliminate media gatekeepers, jettisoning their crucial role in upholding norms of authenticity, civility, public decency and harm-prevention. Soon, anybody could publicly broadcast anything….true or false, well-meaning or utterly depraved, dispassionate or rage-filled. The way humans are wired up to rubberneck raging conflicts while tuning out calm, boring conflict resolution kicked in under this new, unfiltered media experiment.
The fracturing of news media into left and right enclaves, while it occurred during much of American history,
was shocking to those of us who lived through the manicured nightly newscasts of Walter Cronkite, Eric Sevareid and Ted Koppel — we thought that professional, objective journalism was permanently entrenched. During this period, our nation pulled off dozens of thoughtful reforms in both law and custom — automobile safety, drunk driving, child sexual abuse, non-smoking, women’s admission to professional careers, and great strides in science, medicine and technology. These reforms were made possible because the public discussion was kept mostly cerebral — unadulterated by jagged emotions and rage rhetoric. We had a very productive national conversation. Nobody can argue good-willed, dissenting ideas were being censored — how else could those reforms have gathered steam?
The reckless media experiment continues unabated. And, because polemic rage and ad-hominem attack have replaced mindful deliberation, the return path to sanity (e.g., repealing Section 230) can’t effectively compete for attention. Calibrated reforms are drowned out by calls for radical destruction of institutions. We’ve trained our amygdalas to call the shots, the frontal cortex smothered into silence.
