Rep. Goldman: The FBI Investigation of Tesla Attacks is “Political Weaponization”

For many of us who were long active in Democratic politics, it is becoming increasingly difficult to recognize the party as a new generation of foul-mouthed, censorship-supporting, mob-enabling leaders take over. That sense returned this week when Rep. Daniel Goldman (D-NY) claimed that the FBI investigating attacks on Tesla cars and facilities is nothing but “lawfare” and “political weaponization.” Goldman’s latest controversy captures how Democrats have now entirely cut the cords of decency and moderation that once tethered their party to the mainstream of our society. No, the House Should Not Impeach Judge Boasberg Over His Tren de Aragua Restraining Order

I have previously written against calls to impeach federal judges who have ruled against the Trump Administration in the issuing of temporary restraining orders (TROs) and preliminary injunctions. The latest target of such calls in the House is  District Court Judge James Boasberg, who issued a temporary restraining order against Trump’s invocation of the Alien Enemies Act.  GOP members are making a mistake in engaging in the same impeachment craze that took hold of the Democratic members in prior years (and continues this year). The way to respond to such rulings is to appeal them, not to try to remove judges (which is neither warranted nor likely). “We Shall Overcome”: Eighty Percent of the Public Opposed Green’s Conduct But Only Five Percent of Democratic Members Voted to Censure Him

The Democratic Party seemed to rush to embrace its utter obsolescence in disrupting the censure process of Rep. Al Green (D., Tx.). After Green disrupted the joint session address of President Donald Trump, Democrats responded by refusing to clear the well and singing “We shall overcome” over the voice of Speaker Mike Johnson (R., La.) — forcing him to put the house in recess. Polling indicates that the Democrats have a great deal to overcome as a CNN poll shows 80 percent of Americans disapprove of Green’s conduct. “I’m Ready for My Close-Up”: Mayors Tap the Public for Massive Fees to Prepare for Immigration Hearing

At the end of Sunset Boulevard, Norma Desmond (playing the murderous former silent movie star) walks flamboyantly down a staircase to awaiting police and says, “All right, Mr. DeMille, I’m ready for my close-up.”

It is one of the most powerful and creepy moments in cinema. A delusional, forgotten star enjoying the last moment of attention — even with a crowd of cops awaiting to take her to jail.

Norma Desmond came to mind today as it was disclosed that Democratic mayors in cities with struggling programs and funding shortfalls will be spending millions to prepare them to answer questions about their sanctuary city policies.  Mayors Michelle Wu of Boston, Brandon Johnson of Chicago, Mike Johnston of Denver and Eric Adams of New York will appear before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

“Which Country is he Loyal to?”: Democrats Go Full McCarthy in Attacks on Musk

Below is my column in The Hill on the disgraceful Democratic attacks against Elon Musk over his status as a naturalized citizen. For years, some of us have raised concerns over the adoption of McCarthyite tactics and rhetoric by the left to demonize those with opposing viewpoints, including critics of the massive censorship system under the Biden Administration.  Those attacks are now reaching a dangerous crescendo after the 2024 loss in the presidential election.

No, the GOP Should Not Impeach Federal Judges Over the Trump Challenges

One of the greatest abuses of the Democratic party in the past eight years has been their use of impeachment investigations and charges against their political opponents. From President Donald Trump to conservative justices, liberal members have demanded impeachments over everything from opposing the NFL kneelers to hanging revolutionary-era flags. Now, some Republican members are calling for the impeachment of judges who ruled against Trump’s earlier executive orders and programs. Elon Musk has supported this effort. It would be a grave mistake to follow the Democratic example in the misuse of impeachment powers to target judges or justices.

Democrats in Congress Reach Record Lows in Approval

In the first month of the Trump Administration, Democrats seem to be following the old adage of French Prime Minister Georges Clemenceau that “generals always fight the last war.” However, usually, the generals won the last war. In this case, Democrats lost both houses and the White House, but doubled down on hyperbolic rhetoric and false claims. The results are predictable: the Democratic Party hit an all-time low in approval, according to a Quinnipiac poll. Continue reading “Democrats in Congress Reach Record Lows in Approval”

“Listen Carefully it’s Actually Much Darker”: How the Left is Framing Free Speech as a Front for Fascism

The defense of free speech by Vice President J.D. Vance in Munich, Germany, has led to open panic on the left in fighting to maintain European censorship and speech criminalization. The response of the American press and pundits was crushingly familiar. From CBS News to members of Congress, Vance (and anyone who supports his speech) was accused of using Nazi tactics. It is the demonization of dissent.

“Taking Away Everything We Have”: Democrats and Unions Launch an Existential Fight Over Buyouts

Below is a slightly modified version of my column in USA Today on the apoplectic response of Washington to the efforts of President Donald Trump and Elon Musk to reduce the size of government. Democrats have declared the effort to be pure “evil” and responded with rage rhetoric and profanity in public demonstrations. In a town with only one industry, reducing government is a sacrilegious act. It is one thing to run on reducing government and quite another thing to actually mean it. However, the deferred buyout shows how both members and unions are working against not only constitutional powers, but the desire of the employees themselves.

Democrats Jump the Shark: The Latest Claims of a Constitutional Crisis Will Not Lead to “Happier Days”

Below is my column in the New York Post on the growing claim of a “constitutional crisis” over the Trump reforms. It is the latest political jump scare to see if it will rouse the public. It seems, again, to be backfiring as polling shows Trump with record approval levels and widespread support for reducing government.

“WE ARE AT WAR!”: Democrats Ramp Up Rage Rhetoric as Tensions Mount Across the Country

Democratic leaders continued to ramp up their “rage rhetoricfollowing the inauguration. We have already seen violent protests and planned assassinations directed against Trump Administration figures. Despite the growing tensions, Democrats are ratcheting up claims of a “coup” and calling for Democrats to “fight in the streets.”  After failing to win the election with claims that Democracy would die if Trump is elected, Democrats are doubling down on rage politics to try to win over the public. The difference is that they are now focusing on Elon Musk rather than Donald Trump.

In Defense (Gulp) of Chuck Schumer

This day had to come. I find myself with the inescapable view that Sen. Chuck Schumer is being treated unfairly. There, I said it. Edward R. Martin, Jr., the Interim D.C. U.S. Attorney, recently announced that he is investigating Schumer. The possible criminal charge is linked to Schumer’s infamous speech on the steps of the Supreme Court in March 2020, threatening justices with retaliation if they voted against abortion rights. I have repeatedly denounced Schumer for his “rage rhetoric” and his pandering to the most extreme elements of the party. However, a criminal investigation into the speech is unwarranted and unwise. Rounding up the Usual Suspects: Grassley Releases Familiar Name in the Origins of the Trump Investigation

For Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA), the weaponization of the criminal justice system has always followed a certain Casablanca pattern. Like Claude Rains as the venerable Captain Louis Renault, it is simply a matter of “rounding up the usual suspects.” Grassley released FBI whistleblower records on Thursday showing that an anti-Trump figure, former FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Timothy Thibault, previously found to have violated the Hatch Act was a key factor in pushing the election charges brought by former Special Counsel Jack Smith. Biden Again Summons His “Leading Legal Constitutional Scholars” to Support an Absurd Constitutional Claim

In his final week as president, Joe Biden again invoked liberal professors to justify a plainly absurd constitutional argument by declaring that the 28th Amendment is now ratified. By invoking “leading legal constitutional scholars,” Biden only added redundancy to absurdity in claiming that the Equal Rights Amendment is now law. Unfortunately, this pattern has been all too familiar throughout his presidency and only highlights his contempt for constitutional order.
