Islamic “Court” Stones Couple to Death for Adultery

scan0048.jpgA couple was the latest to be put to face Rajam (stoning to death) for the crime of adultery after a sentencing by Pakistan’s Mohmand tribal agency. The couple was found guilty by a “qazi court” in Fata in a case reportedly over-seen by the Taliban.

The woman named Shano had reportedly eloped with Daulat Khan Malikdeenkhel of Bara on March 15 despite her marriage to another man.

Her family had filed a police report that she might have been abducted, but when the police found evidence of adultery, it became a death penalty case. The actual stoning took place in Khwaezai-Baezai, about 40 kms west of the Mohmand Agency’s headquarters Ghalanai.

This is of course only the latest such outrageous case in countries punishing violations of Islamic principles with death, click here and here and here and here and here.

Of course, Christians and Jews engaged in stoning in biblical times as depicted in the above picture of the The Stoning of Achan . However, such punishment is widely viewed as barbaric today.

It’s comforting to know that Wager of Battel is still technically available in the U.S. as a form of remedy; since it was only abandoned by British Parliament in the early 1800’s.

Perhaps there is some justification for hating a materialistic semi-debauched culture; our own native-grown fundamentalists detest it. A big step though to indiscriminately killing its populace. I detest the fundamentalist sharia legal system but I am not going over there to bomb their citizens.

But there is a natural detestation of a foreign occupying force in one’s own land and this can’t be discounted. That “they hate us for our freedoms” meme is misleading and only a minority truth in the bigger complex of attitudes which include admiration and respect (or at least formally did).
