Knoxville, Tenn. police has released a statement that a letter in the car of church shooter Jim D. Adkisson reveals that he targeted the congregation due to its liberal views on civil liberties and women’s and gay rights. Adkisson killed two people at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church in the middle of a children’s performance.
Chief Sterling Owen IV said Adkisson had a “stated hatred of the liberal movement.” He is now charged with first-degree murder. Among the complaints against the church was its founding of a chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union.
The children were performing “Annie” when Adkisson decided to kill people in the name of the true faith. According to reports, Greg McKendry, a 60-year-old usher and board member at the church, blocked the killer and was his first victim, click here.
It is simply astonishing that even a demented killer would think that God would want him to mow down Christians who are not sufficiently conservative, including children. Some reports indicate that he had problems with Christians in general, click here. It takes a lot of hate to walk into a scene of children performing in a religious sanctuary and turn it into a place of massacre. Of course, as with the Virginia Tech massacre, the story also reveals the best of humanity in those adults who confronted his man at the risk of their own lives. Had he not been restrained by church members, the death toll might have been much greater.
Ironically, the ACLU and these church members would likely be the first to defend Adkisson’s rights as he faces a potential death penalty for his alleged crimes.
For the latest on the story, click here.

I agree with the ACLU that the death penalty is never the answer. However, this is another tragic example of religous crazies who believe that God does not believe in living the tenets of Jesus Christ by helping all who need help. It is so sad that people aren’t even safe from the fanatical religious right in church.
This is such a tragic and unwelcome reminder of the pain and brokenness in our sinful world. Our prayers go out to our brothers and sisters in Tennessee as they mourn in this time of loss. I pray that, though difficult, events like this will help unify the church in the hope of the Gospel.
I was thinking about this today and found that Christianity Today is offering a free resource called “Confronting Gun Violence.” I’ll include the link below for any of you who are interested. While we can never predict when an act of violence might occur, this download offers some precautionary measures churches can take to safeguard their people and facilities.
Again, my deepest sympathies go out to our friends in Knoxville and I pray that we can learn to prevent such tragedies in the days to come.

When I first read about this this morning (following the same link to the same story on CNN), the story was full of quotes about how the guy got upset whenever the topic of religion came up… implying that he was some kind of radical atheist.
Hmmm… and now when they actually have some facts in hand (the letter the shooter left behind)… it turns out the his motives were a hatred of liberals and the progressive social attitudes embodied by this congregation (it’s a unitarian church).
The quotes about his supposed discomfort with religion are now gone from the article.
So my question is: was the original news report based on assumptions indicating a bias towards religion (at least by this particular media organization)?
@wc3
My thoughts exactly!!!!!
It’s almost as if people can’t wait to pin the “religious intolerance” tag on these crimes, and then eventually it comes out that the perpetrator is some religious fanatic.
Very Sad! Both the story and the article.
Guns and religion – I wonder why everyone in Middle America smarted when they heard that – because to a large extent it’s true – in fact the complete sentence should read – use GUNS to further RELIGION – how are our very own local right-wing crazies different from the Islamic fundamentalists they claim to hate?
CC,
I agree that too often, religion comes with a free rifle to every paying customer.
I ask that you reconsider your statement that the problem only resides in Middle America. The Iraq war was began and continues on account, not of middle America, but for the richest, most highly educated percentile of our population. This problem crosses all class lines and it crosses the international date line as well.

Exactly. The irony here is, the LAST thing Jesus would have done, or taught someone to do, is shoot people.
If these pinheads would try reading the New Testament instead of using it to smack people on the head with, then this sort of stuff wouldn’t happen.
Why isn’t the title of these stories, “Hero give his life shielding children from semi-automatic shotgun carrying crazy”? The fact that one unarmed man stood in the face of a semi-automatic shotgun, and took the force of the blasts is simply AMAZING and a sign of the goodness of the human spirit. How many people would do that? I guess the word “hero” is overused these days, but I cannot think of a truer case of heroism if the reports are accurate.
And then three unarmed men jumped the shooter and pinned him so he was able to fire only 3 of 70+ shells. That’s good stuff too.
This congregation did some pretty commendable work.
Bucko,
Well said.
“It is simply astonishing that even a demented killer would think that God would want him to mow down Christians who are not sufficiently conservative, including children.”
Since you certainly know that your statement regarding this Adkisson fellow is A LIE and that Adkisson is AN ATHEIST who was much more likely influenced by the writings of people like Christopher Hitchens, Richard Dawkins, and Sam Harris than any Christian theology or belief system, I demand that you update and correct your statement and acknowledge your prejudice (in the original sense of the word since you pre – judged Adkisson to be an evangelical or fundamentalist Christian) and your grotesque error arising from it, as well as admitting that you did not even have the personal character or decency to acknowledge your mistake initially. Second, please know that the Olympic bomber Eric Rudolph, the Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh, and the Columbine shooters Dylan Harris and Eric Klebold WERE ALL ATHEISTS WHO FOR VARIOUS REASONS DESPISED CHRISTIANITY. Somehow, I don’t think that we are going to be seeing you write an entry on that one …

The fellow resented liberals AND Christians, and figured that he would go down taking his anger out on people who represented both objects of his disdain. As much as you might like to make Adkisson out to be a member of the religious right going after liberal Christians, the facts are the opposite: the fellow was an atheists who killed Christians because of their beliefs.
This guy looks like he also resents barbers.
Bartlebee,
You hit the nail on the head. Why do these crazies always look so crazy?
Gerald,
Not liking Christians doesn’t make you an atheist. I know several people who have problems with Christianity in general, but believe in a God of some sort (most are deists). There’s a huge bias in this country where we assume if you’re religious you’re a Christian and if not, an Atheist.
This guy modeled himself after Bush. When people have different religious views, kill them. The only difference, God told Bush directly.
Zakimar,
You may be right, but Bush was probably under the influence when he allegedly heard from the “Big Guy”.

Rafflaw, I agree. I am opposed to the death penalty regardless of the crime, but this nutcase can sit in prison on a life without parole sentence. Whether he calls himself “christian” or not, he’s definitely a danger to ANY community, and shouldn’t see the light of day again.
“Ironically, the ACLU and these church members would likely be the first to defend Adkisson’s rights as he faces a potential death penalty for his alleged crimes.”
ALLEGED CRIMES!?!? What is the matter with you? There’s a church full of witnesses, the guy was caught red handed. Maybe you and this guy both think Unitarians aren’t sufficently conservative/Christian/Republican/ so we reserve judgment when they are killed? I bet you don’t say bin Laden was the “alledged” mastermind behind 9/11.
Just makes me wonder… why is it that in America, only the right wingers respond with violence, threats, and intimidation? The biggest domestic terrorists of the last 30 years have all be radical right wingers. If anyone ought to be locked up without trial, it should be the right; they have a demonstrated track record of mass murder.
This is a racist incident because this white man is not used to losing his job like a black man, hispanic, oriental etc…
This white man snapped like a twig off a tree as soon as he found out he lost his job.. No one in his family never lost a job…
I know people do not want to hear the awful truth… but this is all true..
Life in America
The most astonishing thing about this article was the following line:
“It is simply astonishing that even a demented killer would think that God would want him to mow down Christians who are not sufficiently conservative, including children.”
Yet supposedly sane people in America and Israel, the Zionists, including Bush never “astonish” people in the media when they kill Palestinian, Iraqi, Afghani Muslim AND CHRISTIAN children (yes, suprisingly some Arabs are Chirstian). I guess Romney was partially right that Jesus was an American.
Gerald,
My comment was intentionally intended to not cast aspersions on any individual’s set of beliefs, but rather to draw attention to the media’s role in shaping public perceptions of tragic events such as these. The facts will speak for themselves once they are fully known. But one thing I feel for certain is that the constant sensationalized coverage of violent rampages, murders, kidnappings, crashes, drug ODs, celebrity misbehavior, or whatever… only feeds into the cycle of attention-starved desperadoes perpetrating acts like these.
Religion vs. atheism is kind of irrelevant at times like this (you can always find someone from one group or the other with blood on their hands). Our common humanity & compassion for our fellow beings in this world should trump any blanket judgements we might be tempted to make in righteous support of our own particular worldview.
rafflaw,
I agree with you and Mr. Bee, but the stone cold mass murderers usually wear expensive clothes and the barber comes to their home at their whim!

Well you’ve got a difficult point to argue against there. After all, Timothy McViegh was a far right gun loving wingnut, fueled on by the far right wing nut pseudo christian group, “Elohim City”.
And the damage he did was on that terrible day, as shocking to us as 911 was. The whole in the side of the Oklahoma federal bldg was so unbelievable, that words cannot describe.
Fortunately, we had a level headed president who didn’t “freak out” and panic when it happened.
And thanks to that presidents calm, level head, we got the “terrorists”.
Without opinion, I’ll mention that I’ve read comments from people worried that we’re going to see a huge uptick in violence against abortion clinics, gay businesses, etc., under Obama. We saw this under Clinton, but it went down again under Bush.
It’s not because of any “law and order” nonsense, especially since this administration hasn’t made such prosecution a high priority. (How long was that guy who mailed anthrax spores to various democrats and Keith Olbermann’s home sentenced to prison? Oh yeah, nobody was ever prosecuted despite it being such a restricted substance that the number of people who had access would probably fit in an admittedly large room.)
Nope, the people with violent tendency simply felt that “conservative” administrations were going in the right direction, however slowly, so it wasn’t worth the risk to take more direct action. “Liberal” administrations, on the other hand, go in the wrong direction by protecting these groups and they felt like they didn’t have any choices other than naked violence — bombs in clinics, attempted murder of doctors, etc.
As I said I don’t know how much weight to give this argument, much less how much it applies in this situation, but it’s definitely food for thought.

Very true, and its perpetuated by the pseudo christian groups calling themselves “evangelicals”.
The evangelical community has done more harm to Christianity, themselves, and this country, than any religious group since Jim Jones.
Susan,
I agree that if convicted, this nutjob can spend all the rest of his fun loving days behind bars. Chris, you are right about the Anthrax attacks. There is a very good reason why those attacks haven’t been solved and he is sitting in the White House. I for one believe that the White House was behind the anthrax sent to the Democrats and media folk because they wanted to send a message.
Why does he have a bond? This man is a danger to society. He should not be released for any amount of money.
Judging by the previous comments he had made, the guy had a very obvious hatred of Christians and religion in general. You don’t have to be a Christian to disagree with Liberal views. The comments in this section paint him as some kind of right wing religious nut when that is the exact opposite of what he is. He hated Christians and he hated liberals. They are not always mutally exclusive.

Well maybe not so crazy in a literalist sort of way:
“Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death. Such evil must be purged from Israel.” (Deuteronomy 17:12 NLT)
and the ever popular:
“They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.” (2 Chronicles 15:12-13 NAB)
Crazy though he may be, he just might be on the right side of the theological argument. Funny world wrought by religion.
Bee,
I can see the Ned Beatty resemblance, but to me he looks like the Unabomber. Just a little bit older.
You can lay a good deal of the blame on radio nut cases like Limbaugh and Savage that whip up hatred of liberals so some nut job sitting by his radio goes on a rampage. Why don’t they just shut the f**k up and accept the fact that we are one nation, not a Christian nation, not a conservative nation, but a nation of individuals practicing radical freedom guaranteed to us in the Constitution. Mespo,
To be fair those laws were for the ancient Jewish people. They were just par for the course of the times.
Assuming the articles are accurate, the guy wasn’t a fan of Christianity or the Bible.
Thats a common problem with the growth of the so called “Evangelical Christians”. They leverage scriptures like the Davidic narratives of Chronicles, or worse, the archaic laws of Moses from Leviticus, or Deuteronomy.
Not to pawn em of on the Jews, but in truth, given the fact they only bother read or preach from the Torah and a few of the epistles of the apostles, they would be better off calling themselves Evangelical Sanhedrin or something.
This article has more info on what the letter said. It might shed some light.
.knoxnews.com/news/2008/jul/28/church-shooting-police-find-manifesto-su
Evidently, the letter does not show a hatred of Christianity per se. He hated this church because it was full of liberals and democrats whom he wanted to kill. His home has a bunch of right wing literature–a lot of names everyone knows.
I couldn’t get the link to work so just go to knoxnews.
Res ipsa loquitur, indeed.
After listening to some the left wing ranting going on here, it astonishes me that those on the left still wonder “why.”
Here is a person, part of a demographic, socio-economic group that is persistently marginalized by the left. I would go so far as to profess that those on the left consider those on the right to be the enemy.
Read the text of some of your posts. Putting aside the genuine expressions of compassion and wonderment, the vitriol is unmistakable and these aren’t even that vitriolic compared to some I have read. And as you vent, and you advocate, you push an agenda that many on the right (and some in the center) grow concerned about. Given that level of rancor, is it any wonder that a member of a group that has become increasingly marginalized for years would, if he had the mental precondition, snap? You on the left want to reform and rehabilitate drug thugs, but think that AWM’s should be rounded up and locked away on an island somewhere.
Go back, read these and other posts, substitute “right wing” for left wing and consider how you would feel about the writer. Or go to the most vituperative right wing blogs you can find, and imagine that the writers want to impose their agendas on your lifes (although I suppose some of you already feel that this is happening) and will have the votes and political will to overrun your way of life. Imagine if the right advocated for you to be silenced, fired from your jobs or denied benefits because you harbor left wing thoughts, or have your fundamental rights denied to you because you were of the wrong demographic class. Something tells me that you would not much like it.
I can’t speak to why he snapped, or why he hates. I have no facility for that. But I can understand, on some levels, why he is angry.
The guy goes by “David” now, which I assume is his middle name.
I think thats significant since his first name is Jim (James). James is a Christian name, while David is effectively a Jewish name.
We know the guy grew up Christian;
From the article;
According to Massey, Adkisson talked frequently about his parents who “made him go to church all his life … he was forced to do that.”
Chances are this guy did mentally what so many “angry Christians” do, and got frustrated with the law of Jesus, and turned to the Old Testament to find some sort of rationale for his violent feelings.
This is why Jerry Falwell, so called “man of Christ”, always preached from the Old Testament. Because the 4 gospels just didn’t jive with his rage.
Nondeplume,
You missed one significant point. The right wing through the illegal policies of George W. Bush and company, have tried to silence the left. With so-called Free Speech zones and having Secret Service and police arrest people at public appearances when they wear the shirt of their opponent or have a bumper sticker on their car for the candidate on the left. Have you not noticed that the EPA has been eviscerated under the Bush regime? I hope you read Prof. Turley’s posting about the politicization of the Justice Department. What about the Bush Administration’s denial of Science concerning Global Warming and its steps silence the NASA weather scientists who were trying to warn about global warming? Maybe I misread what you wrote, but you seem to be trying to tell us that this shooter was abused and marginalized by a regime that has brought the radical, religious right to the forefront, in violation of the separation of church and state. How has the left marginalized him and how can we when the far right has been in control of the White House for almost eight years and up until 2006, the Congress had been in the rights control for the prior 12 years. Are you sure you don’t have your thoughts reversed? And one more thing. George W. Bush and his minions on the Right have turned this country into a country that now tortures its enemies and prisoners as a policy matter. And you tell us that the left has marginalized this crazed killer?

And even stranger to say he can “understand” his anger, ay?
Especially the day after the guy just opened fire on a church full of people.
Nom Deplume “understands” why a guy would need to get a gun and go shoot and kill liberals in church.
What’s even scarier is I’m not at all surprised.
It is strange that Nondeplume says that he can understand why the killer was “angry” at liberals. Does that mean that NDP is also “angry” at Liberals? I sure hope that NDP does not own a gun. Because if you are angry at someone because they complain when the constitution is being dismantled by his righty friends, then it is OK to kill some people in a lefty church.

Read that a few times, and then read that statement he made about “understanding on some level” why the guys angry.
Essentially, he just told everyone posting comments in support of the left wings positions on things, that they deserve to be shot by gunmen.
Before anyone accuses me of creating a strawman, put his comments in context.
Here is the context
A. This thread is about a crazy right wing nut shooting up a Unitarian Christian church filled with people, killing 2, because he perceived them as liberal or left wing.
B. He opens his comments by mocking anyone here for wondering why this crazy right wing nut shot up a church full of liberals.
C. He concludes his comments by declaring he understands “on some level” why this guy was angry enough to open fire on a church full of liberals.
Like it or not folks, you’ve all just been threatened, albeit subtly, with further assaults on liberals if you don’t tone down your rhetoric.

THE END?
Bartlebee, the entire statement made by “nom deplume” gave me the creeps, and that was putting it the mildest terms. To be more blunt, it is the kind of scapegoating of “liberals” that one typically sees from right wing shills like Ann Coulter, which practically invites (or should I say inCites) these kinds of lunatics to shoot anyone they don’t like. It’s freakin’ scary, because we don’t know how many more of them are out there with guns.
I’d just assume all of them.
Susan:
Nom deplume is your classic baiter. He wants to provoke replies with foolish statements that actually disprove his premise on its face. For example, his assertion that the left seeks to marginalize its opposition by locking them out of employment comes on the day we learn that Bush et cronies did just that at DOJ. His assertion that we accept responsibility for a murderer because of our marginalizing of the perpetrator smacks of the 9-11 hijackers’ rationale. He is either a fool or an instigator, and your thoughts may be better used to respond to real arguments on real issues.

Why is it, that whenever Patty the brainless wonder comes in to attack me and to tell me what to say, mespot, is always, and I do mean always, right there to follow?
wonder why that is?
I know why.
The real irony here of course is if I’m not here, Batty Patty and Messpot are the two busiest commenters, easily dominating the threads.
I guess hubris is blind.
Batty Patty said;
There is no nice way to say it. The best way to do it is maybe
‘after hours’
What’s that?
“after hours”?
Is that supposed to be like a threat or something?

You may not realize it, but you have very rudely interrupted our blog and it’s NOT appreciated
Last time I checked it was Jonathan Turley’s blog, not yours, and since he welcomed me here I would say it is you who have rudely interrupted me, everytime you see me.
Both you and mespo, never far apart, and always blindside unprovoked attacks, like this one.
I was having a nice conversation with a couple other bloggers when you came in and made your idiotic demands to limit my posts to one per hour.
You act like you have some authority here. If so, then state it now and I will be happy to leave. But since Professor Turley has welcomed me here, and since I don’t see any rules declaring I only make one comment per hour, a rule you certainly do not follow yourself, and since I don’t see your name at the top of the blog, then I suggest you leave me alone, and stop attacking me in an unprovoked manner.
I said nothing to you, nor your butt buddy mespot, and your attacks were unwarranted, unwelcome and completely out of line.
GOT IT?
Susan, Rafflaw and Jill.
Sorry for the digression there. These two for some reason have been following me from thread to thread, since the first night I came in here.
In fact, after one of my very first comments, Patty C ordered me told me I was unwelcome here and to leave the blog. Then messpo began echoing her. Now they’re like the echo chorale.
I take it they drive off a lot of new bloggers to Professor Turley’s blog, which would account for the low post count per thread, other than mespos and patty’s, which pretty much dominate everything, or did until I came here, lol.
I’ll try to put the ignore button on their comments from now on. I’ve tried to ignore them but sometimes they pitch me such really slow softballs that I just can’t help myself.
I don’t want to see your handle ‘BARTLBEE’ lined up six times
on JT’s page when I look at it – everyday!
You are not that interesting!
I like to see alternating posts by my fellow ‘turlees’.
You have interrupted our rhythm.
You have made yourself unwelcome.
You are impolite.
You are obnoxious, frankly.
You just don’t ‘get it’… duh!???
Hellooooooooo?
Well Patty, since your desire to compell me to post how you want me to, does not supercede my right to post how I chose to, I guess it just sucks to be you.
Patty C

You have interrupted our rhythm
Try switching hands.
Patty C:
I guess every village needs an idiot-even a crude one. I am to the point that I anxiously await his juvenile reply. Will it be the “I know you are but what am I”? Or the popular, ‘you’re dumb and you’re friends are dumber”? I also like the barrage of epithets for the slightest insult. He is sort of amusing in bumbling, belligerent Bozo the Clown sort of way. I suggest we ignore his rambling musings, chuckle at his pitched battles over nothing, and just bask in the knowledge that we will never be, as russ succinctly put it, “as dumb as Bartlebee.”
BTW the over/under on his screeching replies to this comment is 10, even though no one was directly talking to him. I’ll take the over–we know he’s predictable and just can’t resist. Batten down your hatches a hot wind is readying to blow!
Mespo,
Regarding your reply to Susan:
I was just wondering if this guy was just someone playing a joke on us. (One rather verbose name springs to mind). You’re right though he was just baiting us.
I am not baiting anyone gyges.
And thanks for joining the circle jerk pile on, and like the other two assh0les, forgetting that it was THEY who once more came in, interrupted a conversation I was having with not one but THREE other bloggers, and started by assh0le number 2′s account, “insulting” me.
I also like the barrage of epithets for the slightest insult
The fact is, Susan, Rafflaw, Jill and myself were having a fine discussion, when that ignorant patty came in and started insulting and attacking and criticizing.
Then the assh0le, calling himself messpot chimed in, as he has in NUMEROUS threads now, where the two of them seem to mysteriously appear together to tag team insult me, then criticize me when I insult them back.
So tell you what gyges.
How about you, and your two ignorant assh0le friends, who think you own this blog, all go f#%k yourselves?
You don’t like me c0cksucker?
Then don’t open your fat mouth to me again, or about me.
Bartlebee,
What on earth are you talking about? I personally think you post a little much, but I do the reasonable thing and don’t read most of your posts. I also skip most of Mespo’s and Patty C’s posts in response to you, because I get enough of watching territory being marked when I walk my dog.
The very first night I came in this blog, patty, and mespot, both attacked me out of the blue. Patty instantly began demanding I leave, and stop commenting.
Mespot, little 2 bit wimp that he is, chimed in, and both have followed me since.
In fact, Patty had the nerve, to come into the thread on the day Randy Pausch died, and seeing Professor Turely thanking me for a comment and praising my comment, just couldn’t stand it, and just had to insult me in the thread where a man just died.

Bartlebee:
I believe your posting is far superior to the original blog entry, thanks.

Then Patty responds with this ignorant, condescending insulting comment, in a thread where a mans just died.

Bartlebee:
I believe your posting is far superior to the original blog entry, thanks.
JT
Surprised the hell outta me. I hope to see more
I ignored her ignorant, juvenile attack merely because the nature of the thread. But it goes to show that Patty, and Messpot, are not the two erudite bloggers they pretend to be.
Bartlebee might say what he feels a little more honestly then they do, but they are the ones launching these attacks, as we see from this thread, from the Randy Pausch thread, and from every thread they find Bartlebee in.
So I think the real answer here, is obvious.
These two assclowns, saw themselves as the “blog bosses”.
All one has to do is look at the threads prior to when I came in to see that they easily dominated the post count, and saw themselves as the two “stars” of the blog.
Now in comes Bartlebee, and gets a nice comment from JT, makes a few friends, a few good points, and their egos cannot handle it.
Their egos need bolstering, so they attack me.
The proof of that is here, in this thread. Just scroll up. They follow me whereever I go and attack me completely without provocation, WHEREEVER I am in here. Even in threads where a mans just died.
Clearly messpot and Patty are obsessed with me, thats evident by their stalking me, and always starting verbal attacks whenever they see me.
And for all their self indulgent lies, the posts prove otherwise.
Oh sure, Bartlebee posts more, because Bartlebee can type faster, and apparently think faster, than these two rubes.
But its not Bartlebee following them, or starting trouble with them.
Its them, following Bartlebee, to threads even where someones just died, and insulting him.
In the real world we call that stalking.
Bartlebee,
It’s pretty obvious those two don’t like you, and should probably just ignore your posts. What does that have to do with me? My post at most implied you were making a joke.
You said I was “baiting you”, which I certainly was not. That was a misrepresentation of me, as I have never “baited” messpo or patty.
I post like other bloggers, on the TOPIC OF THE THREAD.
Patty wants to “chit chat” with “her friends” about the weather, her vacation, and god knows what else, and can’t handle a new blogger actually having something to say.
And you piled on, with this.
Gyges
1, July 29, 2008 at 11:49 am
Mespo,
Regarding your reply to Susan:
I was just wondering if this guy was just someone playing a joke on us. (One rather verbose name springs to mind). You’re right though he was just baiting us.
Inside jokes, accusing me of “baiting” these two scumbags? No, I don’t think you were being alltogether helpful, or innocent for that matter.
Why not just not pile on, and keep on ignoring my comments like you said you do?
I’d have no problem with that at all.
Patty and Mespot cannot beat me in a debate. Their brains are not capable of debating me with facts and the like, so instead they’ve decided to try and “drive me out”.
Their modus operandi is obvious, as displayed in this blog.
Find me in a thread, particularly where I am having a pleasant debate or conversation with someone.
Then, insult me.
Even if that thread is about a guy who just died, and its a relatively solemn atmosphere, they go ahead and launch the insults. It doesn’t matter the topic, it only matters that I am there.
They find something to criticize me on, and let the insults fly.
I didn’t react in the Pausch thread, because it would have been inappropriate. As inappropriate as it was for Patty to start with her vile bile.
But in other threads, I tend to respond like any blogger who is the target of one or more blog bullies who have decided to try and drive off the new blogger. I respond in kind.
I probably shouldn’t, and should just ignore them like I did in the Pausch thread, but its not my way. Someone hits me I usually hit them back. And their goal clearly, is to try and bury the good discussions I am having, to try to egg a rise out of me, so as to paint me to professor Turley as troublesome, perhaps in hopes of getting me banned from the blog.
What they didn’t expect however, is that I could care less, and will respond in kind to the ignorant attacks they throw at me, albeit much more honest and openly.
Bartlebee,
I was talking about Nom Deplume’s posts not yours, that’s pretty clear if you read Mespo’s post to Susan.
If you’re verbose then I could’ve been talking about you in my “inside” joke. I could also have been talking about myself or just about anyone here but Jill. I admit it’s not a very good joke, and if the dogs hadn’t needed out I probably would’ve edited it out. The occasional jab at your wordiness doesn’t put me in with Mespo and Patty. It just means I think you’re too wordy; I think that about myself.
Then sorry for misinterpreting. Where and when it was interjected, made it appear otherwise however if I I misunderstood then I’m sorry I responded to you.
As for being too wordy?
Who asked for your opinion, jackass?
Patty C:
Unless we see more, you’ve won with the “under” bet since he only went for 7 hysterical replies. I am guessing more is to come, but I am willing to concede defeat. I also think we should nominate Gyges for the Euphemism Award after our hero’s diatribe against him for something he didn’t say and in response to a question to someone other than our comical friend. “Wordy”, how’s that for avoiding the real thing? Bravo Gyges! I haven’t wanted this to be competitive, but in my sport we do know victory is at hand when we get into the head of the opponent. We’re there and it’s vast, desolate, and scary. Yikes!
nom deplume
typical response from a rightie playing the victim. need i remind this moron that right wing talk shows dominate the airwaves? Get off your high horse and take repsonsibility for the ugliness generated by you narrow minded, constitution hating nazis. there, i vented, i feel better, but you will always be a pompous moron goose stepping to your superior drum. it’s our turn now (Obama). Just wait until the real truth behind your failed “god in the whitehouse” republican administration is made public. how can you NOT be ashamed? are you THAT stupid?
Gyges:
Sorry for the delayed reply but my doppelganger always answers for me as he is much smarter. Ask him-he’ll tell you so. I agree the nom is just a baiter and will probably never be heard from again. In a better world his name would be russ or matha h or even dunder–where is nilet BTW?
Ok, enoughs enough.
I have given you two every chance I could to just LEAVE ME ALONE. I’ve avoided you, and never spoken to either of you first.
Yet, in almost every thread I go into you come in and start insulting me, then mock me when I dare to respond.
Up until I’ve consigned myself to playing “defense”.
But since you two rubes want to continue your verbal insults and attacks on me, I think it is only fitting, that I return the favor.
You may both now, consider Bartlebee, at your service.
From now on, you will get the exact same treatment, you two inbred morons, have been giving me.
You want to follow me into threads?
Harrass me?
Insult me?
Slander me?
Fine.
I’ll be happy to do likewise to both of you.
You two inbreds made your bed.
Now, lets see how you like lying in it.
‘We’re there and it’s vast, desolate, and scary. Yikes!’…
****
You said it, “butt buddy” LOL
I just spent some time reading Bartlebee’s posts which I do avoid doing because I regard him as obnoxious and his posts as a waste of precious time – since day one.
I have been trying to ignore him. It’s difficult to do when he posts 50 times a day. I admit it.
My remark about his comment about Randy was something of a compliment
- in hopes he would be inspired to do something with his life.
He took it as an insult.
My only real complaint is that he posts too often.
I am not interested, at all, in what he has to say, much less in ‘debating’ him. That will ‘uh’ never happen.
Oh, do I have your attention now, …patty?
For all your little pretend playing nice now, we can all see the truth, which is you’ve been following me from thread to thread and insulting me, demanding I leave, and barking orders like some kind of self annointed blog czar. In fact, the very first night I posted you said this “I want you to leave”.
But now, the “jigs up” so to speak.
I’ve taken all the unwarranted attacks from you and your pal mespo, that I am going to take.
You want to follow me around and start shit with me first? Like you’ve been doing for more than a week now?
No problem. In fact, I’m gonna make it easier for you now.
From now on, I will do for you what you and mespo have been doing for me.
In fact it’ll my pleasure.
You won’t have to come looking for me, to start trouble, like you did in the thread where professor Pausch died.
No sir.
From now on, since you and mespo like playing the “lets kick Bartlebee game”, I will be happy to help you by just “being there”, whenever you open your mouths to anyone, about anything.
That should help you see the err in your ways.
In the words of the “Shocker”, “No more Mr Nice Guy”.
That’s right! You did insult me AND my dead ancestors – the pilgrims,
, the Governor, and the Yankee soldiers.
Thanks for reminding me! And I wanted you to leave for insulting me and my heritage in every conceivable way.
And when do it again, I will have exactly the same reaction.
Bring it on.
Patty C

Lol, no, I “mocked them”.
Theres a difference.
And ONLY after, you came in, and demanded I leave.
Remember that crazy patty?
Yea…. left that little part out in your tirade, didn’t you crazy patty?
You just sorta “forget” the fact that you each time, attacked me first.
Its what you “medical” folks call, “selective amnesia”.
Patty C

Bring it on.
Thank you George W. Bush.
By the way, refresh my memory. Which “dead ancestors” were you upset that I mocked?
The ones who came over in the cargo hold of the Mayflower?
Or the ones carrying the Union Jack into battle during the Revolution, even though they were living in Virginia at the time?
Patty C:
I am torn between Paranoia and God Delusion on this one. Can you help? On another topic, I conceded our bet too soon.
I’d say the Paranoia would be her ancestors hiding out in the storage hold of the Mayflower, for fear of being found out.
The God delusion would’ve been her ancestors carrying the Union Jack into battle, thinking they’d actually escape the hangmans noose.

Lead by example Schmoozie.
Lead by example.
Mespo,
He’s stalking us.
I started a file here. You?
Mespo, you win the bet
Patty C:
Naw, it’s like being stalked by Inspector Clouseau. I kind of like his childish rants. They are fun to correct and I am guessing he’s just waiting for the next comment to pounce like Cato. Like most kids, he’ll just go away one day, but in the meantime let’s enjoy the show. Popcorn ready?
Don’t worry patty.
I started a “file” for you, the night you FIRST started attacking me.
And unfortunately for you, the posts remain, and in each and every thread, you opened your big, fat, mouth, everytime first.
FIRST PATTY.
YOU.
Not me. YOU.
And anytime you need the file for reference douchebag, let me know.

Naw, it’s like being stalked by Inspector Clouseau.
Lets expose douchebag number 2, for the liar that he is.
Douchebag number 2 here claims that I was “stalking” him.
But the posts in all threads, show he FIRST initiated contact, each and every time.
In fact, this very post shows that.
Here, douchebag number 2. Here’s your LIE, exposed.

“I have a request.
I would like you, Bartlebee, to limit yourself to one post an hour

I second that emotion, with one amendment. I move that we limit ourselves to one thought per comment and that the posting be concise and complete unto itself. We’re getting some that, in the words of Churchill, “by its very length, defends itself against the risk of being read.” It’s a pipe dream I know, but we can ask.
So we see, douchebag number 2, intiated contact.
NOT Bartlebee.
So we see, messpo, aka douchebag number 2, is a liar.
Now, as for douchebag number 1, who likewise is a liar.
Notice above it is she who initiates contact, just as douchebag number 2 did, in an insulting and ugly manner.
Observe.

I would like you, Bartlebee, to limit yourself to one post an hour

I would appreciate the opportunity to blog with my fellow ‘turlees’

You are taking up to much space

Which makes Patty a LIAR.

LIAR.
Liar.
At 1:10 AM, PATTY initated contact with Bartlebee, making demands in an utterly insulting manner.
Thus Patty is a LIAR.
LIAR.
Pants on F.I.R.E

But he said Bartlebee is stalking him.

Bartlebee (my final post directly to you):
Nope, never claimed you were stalking me. Simply said being stalked by you is like being stalked by Inspector Clouseau–comparative not complaintive. I really don’t think you could keep up! Like the “original” invective though. Let me know when you run out, I’ll suggest a few, but I would suggest you quit picking on and cursing ladies–it’s bad form even for you. By my reckoning you’re digging a hole with our host that even an elegy won’t fix. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Battlebee:
Is it true that great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, and small minds discuss other people? Can’t you just stick to the ideas and leave off the insults?
It’s amazing how the topic of discussion now revolves around a person who seems to have very little real interest in the topic at hand.
Uhhh, Lindy Lou is it?
Who just happened to find her way to this dead thread that was finished yesterday to help along your tag team schmucks?
How nice.
uhhh. Cindy, aka Patty, aka douchebag number 1?
I WAS on the topic of the thread, discussing the thread with Susan, Rafflaw and one other person, when you and your scumbag partner, messpot came in and started attacking me.
Don’t worry though. Your comments are not going away.
Nor will the timestamps.

Since you initiated contact with me, each and every time, it would be you, and your friend patty, for whom any “warrant” would apply.

…tap tap… testing … one two three… testing..
You’re so honest.
This is not a public forum. It’s a hosted website where Professor Turley is kind enough to allow comments from the public. This bandwidth isn’t free.
Really?
Then why is it publiclly available, to the public, on the public internet, for any member of the public to use?
And what does bandwidth have to do with the number of comments posting?
And who are you, to tell me what to do?
You three keep “acting” like you’ve got some authority here. Yet theres no disclaimers, no posted “rules or regulations”, no list of any authors other than Professor Turley.
And Professor Turley has not asked me to leave, which I will gladly do should he so ask.
So what is it exactly that makes you, and your two other Kapo’s there, think you get to boss other bloggers around again?
I asked you to stick to the topic. Americans have been murdered by an American right-winger. Now, right wingers can no longer claim their hate rhetoric is just a little kiddin’ around. A right wing American has actually picked up a gun and killed other Americans he thought were too liberal.
What do you say, battlebee, isn’t this domestic terrorism?
I’m liberal, and I occasionally go to our Unitarian Universalist church. Now I have to think about copy cat killers. In my town, the Universalist church is directly across the street from a major trauma center. Maybe that will come in handy.
LindyLou

What do you say, battlebee, isn’t this domestic terrorism
Well gee Lindywho, why don’t you try reading all the comments I made about that very thing.
I posted numerous comments on the shootings at the Unitarian church.
You know, the ones that Patty and Messpo are complaining about.
Besides, why are you asking me to take up more of your precious “bandwidth”?

BARTLEBEE:
I have removed three of your comments which included foul language directed at another person. This site is committed to civil discourse. I do not want to bar or censor anyone on a site that has free speech focus, but we need to maintain a minimal standard of civility in discourse. Also, I would appreciate it if you would try to combine some of your comments rather than have four or five one-line comments following in one after another. The problem is that there is a limit on the number of comments which appear on the opening page. We welcome continued exchanges and dialogues. However, having four comments in an uninterrupted line prevents other comments from being visible for the other readers on the home page comments column.
JT
No problem JT.
Since you permit bloggers like mespo and patty to attack new bloggers, unprovoked, and litteraly badger them until they finally retort with some uncivility of their own, and then penalize the blogger who dares respond to the non stop stalking attacks of your two favorite friends, I will do you one better.
I’ll leave your blog and never post in it again.
You guys spend your days damning the right for cronyism, yet clearly it is a dual standard when it comes to your own.
Notice not one word to mespo or patty, about their non stop attacks on me.
Not one word about how they follow me from thread to thread, insult me, harrass me, demonize me, and generally try and interfere with my comments to other bloggers.
Just let them piss me off enough to wear I might use some questionable language, and then walla. Here comes the teacher to chastize me for responding to these two GOONS you keep on hand to drive out anyone who won’t goosestep to the blog beat.
This isn’t a vehicle for free expression, nor does the free speech you so loudly proclaim on Countdown exist here.
What you have here, is an “ECHO CHAMBER”, where bully liberals like messpo and patty c, are permitted to drive out new bloggers by badgering them until they either leave, or react in a way that draws your rebuke.
Well, you can “say” you don’t like to censor all you want, but you just censored me, and without so much as an inkling of alluding to the bloggers, who harrassed me until I finaly let loose with some bad language, obviously to try and discourage them from talking to me.
I don’t talk that way, it should have been obvious to you that my intent was to make it unpleasent for them to keep harrassing me.
But apparently that was neither visible to you, or you just didn’t care. Either way, I won’t hang out in an ECHO CHAMBER, where left WINGNUTS like Patty and your pal messpo, are permitted to badger bloggers, but responses from those bloggers are censored and stifled.
I really thought you believed the stuff you say on Countdown, and who knows, maybe you do.
You just don’t practice it yourself.
So I will bid you good morning sir, and leave you to your ECHO CHAMBER, so you guys can “talk” about free speech.
Oh… and in case I don’t see you, good afternoon, good evening, and goodnight.
Patty C:
“I’ll leave your blog and never post in it again.”

Whew, glad that’s over. The “Age of Miracles” must be upon us. It was certainly inevitable, but even I could not have hoped so soon. Now maybe we can get back to intelligent argument and discussion. Where’s my ol’ buddy Niblet? Compared to some bloggers of very recent vintage, he looks positively Einsteinian by comparison.
“They are gold star moments like being named to Nixon’s hit list!”
Mespo,
You were always very fair with him. I was impressed that you gave him so much of your time and consideration.
I think his little list above was a classic case of psychological projection.
Lindy Lou:
Like Bugs Bunny (maybe my favorite neo-classic philosopher)says “scary ain’t it?” As you note, “fair” was not what he was looking for. I gave him so much time because I saw no reason for him to attack Patty C like that who I find to be tough, proud, and fair–admirable qualities all. Since I was young, I never liked bullies. Maybe that’s why I do what I do? Talk about “psychological projection”–now I’m self analyzing!
mespo, at least you got an ‘ode’. All I got was ‘eau de toilette’!
Knowing a smidge about IDs, I know to close the lid when I flush.

(muted chuckle)
For what it’s worth for BB, I do suggest a complete physical. Flip a coin. He’s calls it for himself.
JT is a wonderful host, a gentle man and a Constitutional scholar extraordinaire.
One down and one to go. If I didn’t have to spend so much time fighting the lies and propaganda of martha h, I’d have more time for civilized discussion.
I want my ‘mespo’…
Where are you? On ‘vaca’, I trust…!
