Police in Galveston, Texas are being sued for allegedly arresting a 12-year-old Dymond Larae Milburn outside of her home as a prostitute in 2006. The girl did not realize that the plainclothes officers were police and fought back as she screamed for her father inside the house. She was reportedly beaten by the officers and ended up with sprained wrist, two black eyes, a bloody nose, and blood in an ear. Weeks later, the police arrested her for resisting arrest.
Sgt. Gilbert Gomez and Officers David Roark and Sean Stewart have insisted that their conduct was entirely appropriate.
The police were responding to a report of three white prostitutes working in the area, but some how ended up arrested and roughing up a 12-year-old black girl in front of her house.
The honor student was then arrested at her middle school on a charge of resisting arrest — but a mistrial prevented further prosecution.

That should be, who’s going to arrest THEM (the police) etc. The rest was my non-thinking idea of what they deserve.
Waynbro,
Who’s going to arrest them? If the police chief is corrupt, and so are the commissioners and the mayor, who’s going to arrest the police–the vigilante perimenopausal female warriors?
Oh I know Lindy and I wasn’t specifically addressing that about you. I see you agree they should be arrested. But bear in mind it’s not just Galveston.
This blog is chocked full of stories, one more horrific than the next about constant police abuse of society. And its no specific police. No specific members of society. Just ask the Mayor of Berwyn Heights MD who had the police shoot not one, but BOTH of their dogs in a clear act of revenge for his political and legislative views.
The war on Terror has become a war on the American people. All of us. And since 911 the police have become like Gestapo, beating citizens and murdering them in their own homes with little or no accountability whatsoever. This blog can’t even keep up with all the stories. I see them in the paper that are not even included here. We need to start arresting police on the spot for such crimes, just like we would any other criminals.
Waynbro,
I caught a logical error, that’s all. That does not mean I don’t like what you say. Oh, look, another logical error. I do like much of what you say, but certainly not everything you say.
To answer your question, I know what I’d like to see done, but you asked what I THINK society should do, which is a completely different answer. Once we have a “real” attorney general, maybe the Dept of Justice can turn some attention to Galveston and clean it up.
As Jill pointed out, and I agree, the system must be totally corrupt. Now that the Galveston police have called such lovely attention to themselves, more people and agencies who are interested in things like justice and human rights will be watching.
This “get them off the job” stuff is sorry, but just more sheeple speak for doing nothing in the face of a brutal crime. We always talk about “better oversight” and removing bad officers.
But if 5 regular guys off the street beat up a 12 year old girl we’d be calling for their heads. They’d go straight to jail. They would not pass go they would not collect 200 dollars. They wouldn’t be suspended pending a hearing and they wouldn’t be given “the benefit of the doubt”.
They’d be taken by force to jail. Where they belong.
But when its the police, oh well then it’s “oh, we need to find out what happened”. We need “investigations”.
Well there is nothing to investigate.
There is NO excuse for 4 or 5 men beating a 12 year old girl.
NONE.
ZERO.
NADA.
These men should be immediately arrested, and tossed into jail where they belong.
Just like we’d do to anyone else who did that.

“Waynebro,
With police who abuse their authority this blatantly, don’t you think it’s natural that the first thought would be to get them off the job”
Well thanks Lindy for not at least launching personal attacks just because you don’t like what I have to say.
And to answer your question, I’ll ask you a question.
What do YOU think, society should do with a group of men who beat a little 12 year old girl so badly that they blacken both her eyes?
What do we USUALLY do with such “men”. And what do we call them?
Hint: We don’t call them men.
I think what Sam (and others) said must be true. Something this egregious will not happen, let alone be ignored, unless the whole system is corrupt, top to bottom. It appears the police are willing to beat the shit out of prostitutes and anyone else who looks helpless. How cruel. This could not have been a mistake, so I agree Lindy Lou, they should be suspended and tried.
Another thing that makes me think Galveston is quite corrupt is: I know two people that have been going there since the hurricane. They saw little help getting to people, even as recently as 1 month ago.

“Waynebro….
You’re too ignorant for me to waste my time arguing with you.”
Why is it with you “superior” types, if someone disagrees with anything you say, you immediately turn to personal attacks?
Huh? Why is that?
Why is it always calling someone ignorant, and then you all proceed to fawn over each other to demonstrate how superior you are to whoever it is you’re insulting?
Did I call you ignorant? Did I insult you?
No.
But you call me the ignorant one.
Go f@#k yourself.
Waynebro,
With police who abuse their authority this blatantly, don’t you think it’s natural that the first thought would be to get them off the job? That doesn’t preclude prosecution. But it certainly is the best way to take immediate action. Get those goons off the street, then take the time for prosecution.
Waynebro….
You’re too ignorant for me to waste my time arguing with you.
I’m not going to get off on a rant here, you’re just not worth my time.
Have a very very Merry Christmas my dear
This kind of thing is heartbreaking. I think I read that the police were several blocks away from area of the original complaint, and that along with the girl being of a different race than the people they were seeking make me wonder what was really going on. Are the police there really that inept, or willing to allow themselves to appear that inept for the sake of feeling powerful?
Here, in case anyone needs help with the excuses.
They didn’t mean it.
They are overworked.
They have a hard job.
They had a hard day.
The girl resisted.
It was dark.
She was dark.
The sun was in their eyes.
The moon was in their eyes.
They thought she was the warrior queen Isis.
And here. I’ll even add their favorite.
They feared for their lives.

“Those police officers ought to be fired for such behavior”
Fired?
Why is it when the police beat up a defensless child like Nazi storm troopers on a Jewish waif, we say “they should be fired”?
But when one of us normal citizens does something wrong, say, tosses a shoe at a public official, well then it’s “TO JAIL WITH THEM!”?
Why is it jail for us, but “getting fired” is enough punishment for them?
I should add that I am not going to encourage such behavior if it’s an actual cop in uniform….But I am hopig that my children won’t have any run in’s with the law.
Basically, if a strange man or woman is pulling on them and informing them that they’re coming with them, then of course, do what it takes to save your own life, something this child thought she was doing!!
Of course the little girl is going to fight back!! She must have been scared to death, thinking those men were trying to kidnap her or something!! And why would they go after a black girl if they were supposed to be looking for white women?
My husband and I will raise our daughters to fight off anyone who attacks them in such a manner. I will tell my daughters to kick, bite, scream, hit, punch, or whatever may be necessary to save their own lives.
Those police officers ought to be fired for such behavior. There’s never any excuse to beat up an innocent child
Here. A preview of the trial.
….”well your honor….after the suspect hit me in the fist using her eye sockets as weapons….”
When you are surrounded by corruption, trained by it and dwelling it, drawing your sustenance from it, you don’t need an excuse. Just an opportunity.
Ah, Galveston. If you’ve never lived there, you just don’t understand. Unlike the sappy song of the same name first inflicted on an unsuspecting nation by Glen somebody, Big G is hard edged, manly and completely corrupt. And unlike Chicago, where the crooks run the cops, in Galveston it’s exactly the opposite; the crooks are the cops. Galveston cops don’t need no stinking excuses.
After all they only blackened not one but both eyes of a 12 year old girl.
We need to explore every possible excuse we can think of to overlook our brave heroes “error in judgement”.
They didn’t mean it.
They are overworked.
They have a hard job.
They had a hard day.
The girl resisted.
It was dark.
She was dark.
The sun was in their eyes.
The moon was in their eyes.
They thought she was the warrior queen Isis.
Let the excuses role. Because we know our brave heroes would never beat up a 12 year old girl…not at least without a damned fine excuse.
Our heroes.
Notice how no one will hold them to the “letter of the law”, but when one of us, say a reporter,….throws something at a public official, say a shoe for example….oh..well then its the “letter of the law”. Then we make sure he’s held to the “fullest” extent of the law.
But when our “heroes” break the law, and the bodies of defensless little girls, oh well then we’ll make all the exceptions in the world.
Because they’re such heroes and all.
