In light of the recent defenses made recently on behalf of Judge Jay Bybee, John Yoo, and Steven Bradbury, this picture appears to capture their sudden emergence into the public debate.
Of course, it is important to get people to join you in the gutter when arguing that torture is excusable when committed by Americans or when torture works.. My favorite recent claim by Pat Buchanan that, since we dropped the bomb on Hiroshima, anything short of atomic annihilation is now permissible — even if we later signed treaties promising to prosecute any American who engaged in torture.
Bron and FFLEO,
I don’t know why McCain picked palin but I have to agree with FFLEO about McCain. I find it despicable that he is justifying the actions of bushcheney and friends regarding torture (or anything else). He also engaged in despicable acts prior to this.
And one who is not into bestiality either.
Well Mr. Ed I guess you’re gonna be my B**** tonight.
FFLEO:
“Once he ran for president against Obama, exposed himself as a corrupt fraud, and displayed his complete lack of rational judgment by selecting Ms. Palin, my disdain for him was cinched.”
I actually think he picked her because he did not really want to win. Or saw the trouble coming down the pike and did not want to be associated with it. Her pick as VP candidate was political calculus but not in the manor everyone thinks.
Anon:
Mister Ed: Don’t yell at me, Wilbur, I’m not your wife.
NOTICE LEGAL NOTICE
It has come to my attention that a picture of my family has been posted on this WEB BLAWG. This is an appropriation of the likeness of My Father Jack, My Mother Jenny and Me. Mr and Mrs Ass respectfully request that it not be used without prior permission again. We are in the process of taking every step to secure the appropriate copyright.
I realize that it appears that it was taken in a public place, but we have an expectation of privacy even in the wilds of our 40.
That Texan for 40 thousand Acres.
Only Kiddin or maybe I ain’t.
liked the pic of the your POST…good one…
JT hope you learned your lesson about Tweety’s he said-she said gossip journalism.
If you have to say for God sake let me finish, you are in the wrong place.
If either Tweety or “Pat” were ever tortured they would squeal like Ned Beatty in Deliverance and want those torturers tried immediately.
Good points, FFLEO. We forgot that all power corrupts. I wish I could claim that “tweety” reference, but it’s his nickname on a lot of blogs and I was just repeating. That improv comes in handy as it’s easy to forget to laugh when the news is full of torture and flu!
David,
I think we ignored our once great Nation because we were all too busy working hard at our jobs, raising our families, obeying the laws, paying taxes, and assuming our politicians were honorable people and looking after our best interests, instead of their own.
What other logical explanation could there be for so many intelligent Americans to allow such an abject fool as Bush to run this country for *8* years—4 years maybe—but 8 years?
Good luck with that Improv Class..
Oh, and that Tweety reference was funny, I had never thought of that before, but it fits hardball perfectly.
That was one of the scariest exchanges I’ve ever witnessed. Buchanon invokes MLK to justify torture, stating “that’s what Martin Luther King was all about?” Tweety comments that “for years police have been beating up suspects” and then asks JT “why so absolute?” Remember, JT had just reminded him that “we’ve prosecuted people for waterboarding.”
Remember also that we’re debating whether we prosecute our leaders who ordered war crimes to be carried out, which is the very definition of what a “banana republic” would not do.
Thanks for standing up for this important issue so well, JT. That you’re in the minority among the pundits speaks volumes about how we got here. I used to skeptically quote the Jewish proverb that “he who has the gold makes the rules” when I was a public defender. Today, however, it doesn’t really matter who makes the rules because the elites aren’t subjected to them. Thus Matt Diaz gets six months in the brig and a suspended law license for speaking out against Gitmo atrocities but those who ordered them, in violation of the Geneva Conventions, face no consequences.
Dude, where’s my country?
FF LEO,
Same reason I voted for Nader, until McCain picked Palin I would have probably voted for him. I did not like Obama and did not want to vote for him. I believe that he is Narcissistic and I have my view as do others about his record, bit I did vote.
Now that Obama is the President, I support him. But I did not vote for the lesser if the two evils as I have voted in the past.
As a lifelong Republican, the following is my opinion of Senator John Sidney McCain III.
I have voted for McCain since the 1982; however, I will never again vote for him because he is an amoral, dishonest, pretentious ideologue. I even overlooked the Keating 5 Scandal to vote for him. Once he ran for president against Obama, exposed himself as a corrupt fraud, and displayed his complete lack of rational judgment by selecting Ms. Palin, my disdain for him was cinched.
McCain is an angry little man with an extreme Napoleonic complex and I can hardly bear to watch or listen to him when he disingenuously tries to speak in a soft subdued tone, as he tries to portray himself an honored, respected seminal political leader. I think Goldwater would be ashamed of him.
Former (Faker) Dem,
I pointed out yesterday that Porter Goss resigned late on a Friday night after the Watergate ho and gamblin’ fiasco that resulted in Dusty Foggo landing in prison.
As was pointed out by other bloggers above, he is not a credible witness, especially when the chair of the intelligence committee at the time, when republicans controlled congress, contradicts his position.
FD,
We do not mind you posting as you just did above. Thank you for the video and for not posting it 5 times here and under other irrelevant topics
I have viewed the video twice and I posted it on the Cheney topic thread a day or so ago. L. Cheney is so biased she cannot reason the simplest logic and fact. If you think she completely won the “debate” then you are ideologically blind. That is a major problem with the politics today; many people on both sides are blinded ideologues.
Well I guess Josef Mengele, the Angel of Death gave Hitler bad advice on his medical experments. I guess that Auschwitz was a success.
I guess the Exile Baby Doc who is in France that bilked millions of dollars should be restored to his former role and was simply just misjudged.
I guess we should feel sorry for any dictator because they acted on bad legal advice. Link:

I guess Rwanda was an error in judgment. I guess others have made mistakes that they should not be held accountable for. I understand the pain that they are suffering.
I guess Obama should just leave and never try and right the wrong because they should all be forgiven. They were just following legal advice. Legal Advice from Bybee ok, Judge Shopping. Michael Murphy, disbarred since 1994 (I believe). Makes perfect sense to me. How about you.
But we need to get the economy rolling and take care of this after Obama has the appearance of the world bank in order.
8 minutes of video from this Saturday’s MSNBC report on harsh interrogation. Nora Odonnell gets it handed to her by a Cheney.

The Republican Mind: Of Witch Hunts for Banana Republics
No one has commented regarding the clip of Sen. McCain played in the video segment. The following statement from Sen. Bond demonstrates that McCain is parroting Bond, or vice versa.
___________
Sen. Kit Bond stated:
{Quote: This whole thing about punishing people in past administrations reminds me more of a banana republic than the United States of America. We don’t criminally prosecute people we disagree with when we change office. End Quote}
______________

__________
Other comments by McCain about witch hunts etc.:
{Quote: If you criminalize legal advice, which is basically what they’re going to do, then it has a terribly chilling effect on any kind of advice and counsel that the president might receive,” McCain said during an interview on CBS’s “Early Show.”
“To go back on a witch hunt that could last for a year or so, frankly, is going to be bad for the country, bad for future presidents — precedents that may be set by this, and certainly nonproductive in trying to pursue the challenges we face,” he said. End Quote}

Former Dem,

My new response: I am must wondering; when CANADA closes down its border with the USA, as they are discussing doing; are CANADIANS also RACIST PIGS or it is just me because it is the MEXICAN BORDER, where the outbreak is worst, that I want to close?
GOD there are morons here.
