Baptist Minister Prays For Death of President Obama

defaultBaptist Minister (and former second vice president of the Souther Baptist Convention) Wiley Drake reportedly said that he is offering an “imprecatory prayer” for the death of President Obama.

Drake reportedly said on June 2 on “The Alan Colmes Show” that, unless Obama repents, he is praying for God to kill him — referencing the killing of Dr. George Tiller as an example of such divine retribution. Drake has his own program, “The Wiley Drake Show” on Crusade Radio, where he has been holding forth on Tiller’s murder. With Colmes, Drake said “I’ve been a Baptist pastor for a long time, been in the pro-life fight, been face-to-face with Tiller, told him about Jesus, and I’ve seen many, many others tell him about Jesus over and over and over again. And I’ve seen horrific things that go on in those death abortuaries — and that’s what they are — and so my initial response to those people, they said, ‘Well what was your response,’ and I said, ‘Well, in all honesty I have to just respond directly and say I am glad that he’s dead.'”

Drake repeated the view that Obama (who he refers to as “B. Hussein Obama”) is not an American-born citizen and called him a “usurper.” Drake was praised in extremist websites after he filed to block Obama from taking the oath of office. He also said that Rev. Rick Warren would be punished by God for offering a prayer at the inauguration.

An “imprecatory prayer” is usually a reference to Psalm 35 where David calls upon the Lord to kill his enemies. There are a variety of imprecatory psalms containing curses or prayers for the punishment and death for one’s enemies. Psalms 7, 35, 55, 58, 59, 69, 79, 109, 137 and 139.

Drake is a big believer in death-dealing prayers . . . and he is not afraid to use them. Previously, he called for the use of imprecatory prayers against a religious watchdog group. He was upset over an IRS investigation. On August 14th he wrote:

In light of the recent attack from the enemies of God I ask the children of God to go into action with Imprecatory Prayer. Especially against Americans United for Separation of Church and State. I made an attempt to go to them via Matt 18:15 but they refused to talk to me. Specifically target Joe Conn or Jeremy Learing. They are those who lead the attack. (You can see their press release attack at )

Imprecatory prayer, is now our duty

Now that all efforts have been exhausted, we must begin our Imprecatory Prayer, at the key points of the parliamentary role in the earth where we live.

John Calvin gave the church its marching orders from Scripture. The righteous have dominion, but only through imprecatory prayer against the ungodly.

David as our Old Testament shepherd gives us many Imprecatory prayers, and can be found to be in best focus in Psalm 109. Also chapters 55, 58, 68, 69, and 83

Pray these back to God and He will answer.

Jesus in Matthew 23: 13, 15, 16, 23, 24, 27, and 29 gave us our New Testament marching orders as well.

Let us join Paul and declare anathema upon anyone” who loves not the Lord Jesus.” I Cor 16:22

Church father Martin Luther, led us by saying…”If any of the enemies of God’s people belong to God’s election, the church’s prayer against them giveth way to their conversion, and seeketh no more than that the judgment should follow them, only until they acknowledge their sin, turn, and seek God.”

During his interview with Colmes, he was asked directly about his death-dealing prayer for the president:

“Are you praying for his death?” Colmes asked.

“Yes,” Drake replied.

“So you’re praying for the death of the president of the United States?”

Colmes then asks him if he is worried that the Secret Service might come knocking and Drake insists that this is his right. That is the only thing upon which I agree with Drake. As I discussed on this segment of Rachel Maddow Show, such violent speech (and prayers) are protected under the Constitution. You are allowed to make hateful prayers for the death of a president.

“Actually, he can be charged and jailed, perhaps even shot for treason. Free speech ends when it comes to threatening the presidents life, even simply asking god to do it. Because we all know that there’s way too many religious wack-a-doos out there who think they are god or at least an instrument of him… It… Whatever.”

    See law here:

    @ Mark:

You are one ignorant SOB – it is not against the law, nor is it treason, to hope, pray or otherwise mentally desire the demise of the silly american president, or the vice-president.

Such remarks cannot even be interpreted as threats – at best they are opinions expressing a wish, and one cannot be jailed for their opinions in the US – yet.

Just give those elitist, soft-palmed, amoral criminals time.

  2. What is it about this Baptist nutcase who apparently hates Jesus which surprises anyone? Like Jesus would pray for any human beings death or even own a gun to commit the deed with! Like Jesus would even be a Southern Baptist! Southern racist bigots might be a better way to describe his kind.

  3. Are you kidding me? How can you live with yourself? Haven’t you ever heard “God will get you in the end”?

  4. I am pretty sure if Bush wasn’t a complete idiot Obama wouldn’t be president…Why don’t we pray Goe. W be punished (Not Killed) for being an Idiot…Maybe send him to Iraq or Afghanistan…remember he said he would get Osama dead or alive…Maybe he could kill Osama with that Axe he used to cut those trees down on his …ranch north of know the one he moved out of right after he moved out of the White house…

  6. Correction, Drake is one of the plaintiff’s who fired Taitz: “Drake said his attorney, Gary Kreep of the United States Justice Foundation, filed an appeal in the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Nov. 16.”

  7. Here’s an update to this thread. Drake has stopped praying for the President’s death. He now wants him to live long enough for a treason trial.

Too bad he didn’t promise to hold his breath until that happened.

It turns out that Drake is also a “birther,” represented, with spectacular lack of success, by our old friend from many other threads, Orly Taitz, in the case dismissed by Judge Carter in California. Small galaxy.

Also note that his mentor, Rev. Manning, has been visited by authorities for his death-themed sermons.
Wiley Drake lifts call for ‘imprecatory prayer’ against President Obama

BUENA PARK, Calif. (ABP) — A former Southern Baptist Convention officer who made headlines in June when he said on national radio that he was praying for Barack Obama to die now says he wants to see the president live long enough to stand trial for treason.
Wiley Drake, pastor of First Southern Baptist Church in Buena Park, Calif., was second vice president of the Southern Baptist Convention in 2006-2007.

Wiley Drake, pastor of First Southern Baptist Church in Buena Park, Calif., issued a press release Nov. 19 calling for an end to “imprecatory prayer” — words of judgment from the Book of Psalms prayed back to God, directed toward Obama.

Drake said he is now “calling for all of God’s people and prayer warriors to cease the imprecatory prayer, and pray for Mr. Obama’s protection until he can be properly tried for treason.”

Drake attributed his change of heart to “spiritual counsel” of James David Manning, pastor at ATLAH World Missionary Church in New York, contained in a 16 1/2-minute video recorded Nov. 18.

Manning preached a series of harsh sermons last year against then-candidate Obama that prompted Americans United for the Separation of Church and State to ask the IRS to investigate him for violating rules governing tax-exempt charities against electioneering. He says he was visited by officials from the Department of Homeland Security after a recent video message in which he advised people who strongly oppose Obama to “be ready to die.”

Drake, a third-party candidate for vice president from the American Independent Party on the California ballot in the 2008 presidential election, recently lost a round in an ongoing legal battle challenging the legitimacy of Obama’s presidency.

U.S. District Judge David Carter dismissed a lawsuit filed by Drake and other plaintiffs Oct. 29, saying the Constitution does not give federal courts, but only Congress, the authority to remove a sitting president….UQ

We owe this link to Dr. Conspiracy at his excellent website:

The Doctor posted a very wise and thoughtful afterword to this story that should be considered by all who view this thread: “[I was a Baptist for many years, and I never heard of anyone praying for the harm of another human being. Drake represents Baptists no more than Obama denialists represent the country in general. Martin Luther included the following in hymn he wrote: “Give to our Prince and all [political] authorities peace and good government that we under them may live a calm in quiet life in all blessedness and modesty.”]”
