Obama White House Blocks Sidney Blumenthal’s Appointment at the State Department

2190248533_6ffd62f705_o220px-hillary_rodham_clintonThe White House has reportedly blocked Hillary Clinton’s effort to bring controversial columnist Sidney Blumenthal into the State Department to advise her. Blumenthal has been long seen as a polarizing and, according to some, a vicious partisan — including allegations that he spread malicious rumors about Obama during the campaign.

Blumenthal first became a nationally known figure during the Clinton Administration where he was often accused of nasty tactics and attacks against critics of Bill and Hillary. He later took a back seat on the Clinton campaign after being accused of the same types of attacks against Obama and then an embarrassing arrest for DUI.

Many Obama supporters were concerned with Clinton’s appointment to State after her own negative attacks on the President, but there was openly stated concerns about fiercely loyal and partisan Clinton operatives being placed in the new Administration. Blumenthal was often mentioned as one such concern. The decision of Clinton to go ahead and try to give Blumenthal an appointment is a measure of his value to the Clintons. It may also reflect a concern by some that Clinton is being marginalized in the Administration and that she needs some political Schnauzers to protect her back and her future.

    I thought so to but I listened to a speech he gave back in June at a book signing for his new book on Cspan books or some such thing this morning and actually thought he was making some good points. Usually I think he is out in left field and adjusts his position every time more information comes in. I can do that myself so I never really thought he had any insight as it was always hind sight. But he did make some good points and I will probably go get the book.

  10. Blumenthal tarnished himself as the worst kind of Clinton apologist. I can’t imagine why anyone would want someone like that in the Executive branch (other than maybe Hilary).

    I think the Obama team is doing the right thing by keeping the sleaziest of the Clinton people out. They have to draw the line somewhere. Hillary has Clinton pal Lanny Davis lobbying her on behalf of the Honduran coup.

  16. Hillary Clinton and Obama have been supreme War Criminals for years and should not have been on the ballots. They are on the top level of War Criminals with Bush, Cheney, Biden, Hitler and Goering. Most members of Congress from 2003 forward are co-conspirators.

    The U.S. War Criminals could be arrested today under USC TITLE 18 > PART I > CHAPTER 118 > § 2441 – War Crimes.

  17. What this gives the lie to is that Obama is unable to hire and fire people. This excuse has been given time and again to justify all the bad policy and appointments that Obama has made. Clearly, when he feels it’s in his interest to block an appt. he does so. When he wishes to get rid of someone, he has no problem taking this course of action.

    As to Clinton, she has been a part of dismantling the rule of law. The best way for her to show integrity is to resign, expose wrongdoing and fight on behalf of our Constitution. I’m not holding my breath. As it stands this is palace intrique.

    Would you not agree keep your friends close and your enemy’s or was that enigmas even closer. Seems like a dumb thing to do. At least with the Rove and Atwater moles they understood the value of bad press.
