La Jolla divorce attorney Steven Liss, 53, was arrested this week on suspicion of four counts of solicitation to commit murder, false imprisonment and spousal battery. Police allege that Liss has been seeking help from various people to kill this wife Karen. One could certainly think that, if the allegations are true, there were better options like . . . a divorce. One day later, however, he was released with prosecutors saying that they need more evidence.
Liss has had a checkered legal career with two license suspensions stemming from the complaints of former clients. One case involved the misuse of client funds.
The couple has filed for divorce and Karen has a restraining order against Liss.
The release is a strange turn of events after police said that they had evidence of multiple efforts to enlist a hitman and Liss was held on over a million dollar bond. Presumably, prosecutors were involved in the case before his actual arrest in a case of this magnitude.

Do you know what a divorce costs? :>)
“A law practice operated by Steven R. Liss is located on La Jolla Boulevard and apparently specializes in family law and adoptions. According to the state bar association’s Web site, he was admitted to the California bar in September 1987. State bar association records reveal that Liss has been disciplined for failure to perform competent legal services and failure to promptly refund unearned legal fees, but he is currently licensed to practice law in California.”
