Former University of Louisville Adjunct Law Professor Thomas H. Irwin, 56, was arrested this week after bringing two handguns and 53 rounds of ammunition into the campus law library. Irwin had been declared a “persona non grata” in December 2008 for alleged harassment of another employee at the school.
Irwin insisted that he was just going shooting later in the day. He was stopped on university grounds and escorted off the property. He had a license for the weapons and thus was only charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon and with criminal trespass.
The university bars guns from campus. This has recently been a matter of controversy around the country where the NRA and other organizations have demanded state laws guaranteeing the right to bring your gun to class. (here and here). It is not clear whether Socrates experimented with weapons in the development of the Socratic technique, but Professors Smith and Wesson certainly tend to concentrate the academic mind.

This was your old buddy law prof from Tulane, right?
Bert:
Never met him, though I was known to appear in class with two bandoleers and a Browning Automatic rifle.
Humm and Alberto is gonna teach at Texas Tech. I wonder if he should have ever resigned from the bench?
When does John Yoo become “persona non grata” al Boalt?
The way they spell that college’s name on their seal: VNIVERSITY OF LOVISVILLE really unnerves me. I wonder if it didn’t push Former University of Louisville Adjunct Law Professor Thomas H. Irwin over the edge.
Who knows what danger lurks behind the stacks? The Shadow knows! muahahahahah!
Seriously, dimwit.
You’re in a library. Last time I checked? Not a lot of library related homicides going down out there. Now church could be a different story, but the fatal library assault is so rare as to be practically non-existent. This leads to surmise that you are either stupid, crazy and/or up to no good.
I’m not anti-gun. I’m pro 2nd Amendment.
I’m also pro-common sense.
The last time I was at the law library I felt no need to pistol whip the Shepard’s or the staff and patronage.
Former University of Louisville Adjunct Law Professor Thomas H. Irwin, your grade for the common sense portion of the Game of Life is “F”.
