The First Thing We Do Kill All The Lawyer Blogs

210px-King_Henry_VI_from_NPG_(2)When Dick the Butcher declared in Shakespeare’s Henry VI “The first thing we do let’s kill all the lawyers,” he may have been prophetic. Jones Day partner Mark Herrmann has written on his blog that his unscientific survey shows that legal blogs tend to have a lifespan of less than a year.

We may have typos and trolls, but we are still here after roughly two years. That should count for something.

  1. Professor Turley,

I apologize for responding to Patty C the way I did. Please remove this post or clean it up. This is still a sensitive issue with me. as I think of what kind of parent I really was and my own personal guilt. All to chase that one last case to set retirement.

  2. Patty C.

If you are in fact a physician your credentials could be called into question and a factual investigation into your sanity and/or ability to practice medicine and effectively uphold your duty under the Hippocratic Oath.

Your have not met myself nor should you dispense what appears to be medical advice to any patient you have not personally met. Do not forget that my family was in the medical field and my mother worked with Michale E. Debakey. Sister, don’t let your foot slide in your mouth too far or up your ass first.

My son over dosed on ambien November 9, 2008, which also happens to be another child date of birth. You are a heartless self centered BITCH.

I myself attempted to commit suicide unsuccessfully twice in July 07′, as you are a witness I am here alive and in the flesh. This was in July of 07. You do the FUCKIN MATH SISTER.

I have never personally assailed you on any front. I hear that you used to contribute to this blawg meaningfully. What has happened? Are you abusing medication? Are you an addict as many professionals are? I was a sloppy drunk, that is what got to me. The end result is you should know better unless it is only your intent is to offend and be offensive, you have crossed the line.

If I get banned for this, it was worth it. YOU ARE A FUCKING BITCH and this is reserved only for a few people anymore.

See how many other people who have better common sense than you that you can run off before you too get banned. Your conduct is juvenile at best and unprofessional at the worst. Mine is inexcusable because I am sober.

I did read an article in the Dallas Morning News this morning that a Psychiatrist was allowed to keep his licenses after he plead guilty to molesting a 10 year old female patient. That SOB needs to be locked up not still allowed to practice medicine and not be imprisoned.

You started it here it is. Bring it on.

Thank you Gyges For anyone that missed it Patty c. implied as she has many times before on this blog that AY was dishonest about his son’s death…

That’s right,I did. I don’t care how you characterize my personal evaluations as you have not been the object of derision for no reason and out of left field.

I am a surgeon who is respected in my community, however I am not ‘on’ when I post here. I am a person just like anyone else and I have very strong opinions.

I do react to other’s bullshit which was non-apparent to us,

as original ‘turlees’, before the entrance of ‘trolls’. And, yes, I include some regulars in that category and make no apologies.

I asked an honest question of AY and what I got was an angry, defensive, and LOUD response and nothing more except passive aggression remarks and sexual innuendo for months.

He may be your friend but he’s not mine.

    Tough!

  4. .”The mistake you teach me, I will correct, and it shall go hard but I will better the instruction.”

Whether I was teaching word processing, ESL, or typing, I always said that to my students. Don’t be afraid, there are no stupid questions, and make as many mistakes as you can with ME. The sooner you make your first 100 mistakes, the better your work will be, and we’ll both learn something new. Or something to that effect.
I just started to visit here this past month, although this blog is in my reader now for quite sometime. I’m not sure what exactly is going on, and I’m not sure if someone mentioned this, but at the risk of duplication:
The space butterfly is beautiful, but I’m pretty sure the colors are “added according to what NASA thinks people will like.” Laurie Anderson became an artist-in-residence at NASA when she uncovered that fact. I don’t know who is in residence now, But I don’t think things have changed. I may be wrong, and please correct me if I am.
I should probably mention I have a head injury. I won’t go into the gory details, but it’s left me with about 40% of my eidetic memory. And short-term memory comes and goes. Even before the head injury, I had lived my life according to the first quote. I’m not afraid to make mistakes, because I don’t know everything. I know alot, head injury or not, but I can’t remember what I forgot.

  5. JT,

I just wanted to thank you for taking a more active role in encouraging civility. I realize that you’re a busy man, and I appreciate the effort you put into this blog.

  6. Thank you Gyges For anyone that missed it Patty c. implied as she has many times before on this blog that AY was dishonest about his son’s death which too me is extremely abusive behavior for a physician to engage in.

  7. Bdaman:

I am also deleting your post due to the name calling with regard to BIL. I would appreciate it if you would reserve such invectives for everyone who dwells outside of this austere site.

  8. I just want to clarify that Swarthmore Mom is referencing something that got removed from Patty C’s post. She’s not crazy, just referencing a bit of malignant cancer that JT surgically removed.

  9. Patty C It is a fact that AY’s son died in November 2008 so you do not need to go there again.

  10. However, to answer you, I likewise know plenty of doctors who are worried about what Obama’s plan will mean for them, their practices, and their livelihood.

    I get it…!!!!!!!!!

Aside from my own observations, my father was a brilliant, talented general surgeon who became ill himself, early on in his private practice. After his gastrectomy, he quickly abandoned private practice and went to work as Chief of Surgery for the VA. Our house with the office on the side got sold and we moved. He didn’t have to do that, but he thought he did because he also had a young family to support. There were other options but not a lot of time or support to consider them given some earlier choices.

Doctors, generally speaking , are not great business people or financial wizards, necessarily. Too bad,.

In Maine, we have lost several primary care physicians and some truly great specialists through retirement, Illness/disability, or a lack of connection to community, frankly.
Maine is not for everyone – all year. My partner and I left prestigious Boston because we were always dreaming of being here the next time we could get away.
We make less money and we LOVE it!

One of the things doctors need to be open-minded about is looking at choosing, or not, different criteria for compensation for themselves.
What’s most important? It’s a personal questions and deserves and honest answer.

    1. Patty C:

I removed part of this posting to end the personal strife. These are not the same persons and we are trying to move beyond the continual disagreement over identity and motivation. With Madonna sinking boats around the world, we have more urgent matters to address!

  11. JT,

My response is exactly as I told you it would be.

I’m not the one out of control. If I may be so blunt, you’re the one not enforcing your rule.

I stated above there would be no more direct counter attacks, just the Box Score. What others do with that information is up to them. If you don’t like it, ban me, because I stated in the rely to you previous request that my actions would be based on her attacks. I won’t stop pointing out her ad hominem aggressions as long as they are allowed.

If you have a problem with me defending myself from a deranged attacker with that passive a method? So much for Free Speech. She gets all she wants and I get squat?

    Yeah, that’s fair.

Or you could end it all by holding a vote. But that would lead to Patty getting the boot wouldn’t it?

This is a hobby. I can do it elsewhere and probably get paid for it. I have fans. I’m a very good writer. I come here because I like most of the company and all of the good conversation. That’s the reality of it.

However, your inequity and unwillingness to both recognize and address the perpetual problems created by Patty, not just with me either – I’m only her latest victim – shows me that concepts like equity and the rule of law get more lip service here than action. You made one rule. She CAN NOT abide it. So everyone she chooses gets to be her target and their supposed to just lump it? Everyone gets to pay the price for her bad behavior except her? Is she your wife’s sister? Is there some family reason to keep an obviously and noxiously unbalanced person in the mix who adds nothing of value but only disrupts every thread she appears in?

If I sound like your handling of this situation has finally irritated me?

    It has.

Man up. I’m taking the day away to let you decide what kind of contributor you REALLY want here.

    1. BIL:

I am sorry that you feel that way, but this is not a matter of “manning up.” In a site dedicated to free speech, banning a contributor any highly antithetical. I have deleted some of Patty’s comments as well as others. My warning is that I could see where the threat was going and that we just broke off a threat of literally hundreds of entries of useless name calling. I also do not think that we should be “voting people off the island” by popular vote. I have tried to be fair in deleting personal attacks when I have caught them while trying to get people to ignore anyone that they consider a crank. I did not delete your response to Patty C but simply asked for the contributors to leave it at that. You offer some very substantive and interesting comments. I fail to see why you want to get into these exchanges beyond an initial response. My “flag” was part of my promise to try to stop these tirade threads before they begin. Finally, no, Patty C is not my wife’s sister. I make it a point to ban family members on genetic mutation grounds.

  12. And a blog wouldn’t be complete without an Anti-Semitic, corporatist, scientifically incompetent, half-witted troll.

Glad you keep coming back, bda.

We need examples of the corrupt and stupid to point to.

    Crazy is optional.

    1. Warning flag: Before we start another round of personal recriminations, please everyone dial down a bit on the personal qualifications (or lack thereof) arguments. Let’s go back to the Space Butterfly. We all agree that it pretty cool, right?

  13. PattyC:

“There it is. And unless you are in my field of expertise, you almost certainly don’t ‘get it’, totally. There’s little way you could, unless you are on the back end of failed policy..”

Most doctors we know are against the changes proposed by Mr. Obama and most are against government intervention. They believe they will have even less control than they do now.

If you are going to argue from authority at least present a reason why you agree with Mr. Obama instead of just saying the rest of us are knaves and you know best because of your “superior” position.

  14. Kids will fight today and will be friends tomorrow. Adults will fight today and will be enemies for the rest of their lives

  15. Did you notice you were the only person DIRECTLY ADMONISHED BY NAME in the Prof’s restatement of the civility rule? Did that really escape your attention, Princess?

I am doing the math. I figure an explanation is in order. Not for you. I could give a damn what you understand, Ms. Malfunction. This explanation is for the regular and our host.

What I am not going to be doing argue with you any more because you are clearly insane. You don’t argue, you trade insults, and I am the undisputed king of insults around these part. I stomped you into a puddle on insults. Not even close. My guess is you may be bi-polar with substance abuse issues. It’s a diagnosis I am intimately familiar with and you hit all the notes. You and my ex should really go bowling. I’ve been in direct contact with some of the other regulars off camera and you being out of your mind is indeed the consensus so far. Many are puzzled as to why JT continues to allow you to post. Some are even a bit upset that JT seems to protect you at the expense of blog wide civility. But make no mistake – you are out of favor in a big way around here. Maybe not with our host, but you are most certainly no longer in a Patty friendly forum.

The first time you wouldn’t stop acting attacking and acting like a bitch, I did exactly what I promised and turned it against you. Every time. Very effectively. In your delusional state, you really have no idea that you no longer speak with authority about jack squat around here and most doubt you’re actually a doctor, Ms Can’t Keep Her Story Straight. Sure, YOU think you speak with authority. No one else here does. That’s why it’s called a delusion. You wanted to act like a clown so I made sure you looked like one – not that it was difficult. All I had to do was feed you rope.

And just like I promised JT, I’ll turn the situation against you again if you can’t exercise self-control. You attack me? I’ll take action. I keep my word. Quid pro quo.

But what I am going to do now is indeed the math.

I am going to keep a running score of your ad hominem and other snide behavior and I’ll post it every time you open your vile mouth to attack someone. It’s not an obsession with you either. It’s a defensive tactic in response to your obsessive attacks on me and others. A defensive action I told everyone to expect if you didn’t abide the civility rule. I can post endlessly without ever mentioning you. I have been while you been in hiding after the last drubbing you took. We’ve had some EXCELLENT threads without you. It has been a productive happy blog. Great new contributors, semi-lurkers are speaking up more now and we’ve even gotten some new trolls.

Great conversations made so much better by your absence.

You, on the other hand, cannot seemingly go one post without mentioning me or Jill in a hateful snide contextt as evidenced by your first post upon return.

    http://jonathanturley.org/2009/09/01/the-first-thing-we-do-kill-all-the-lawyer-blogs/#comment-78150

So what I’m doing now conducting an experiment to see how long it takes for JT to finally realize you are incapable of civilized behavior and puts a final end to your nonsense or for the numbers to grow to a point where you can’t open you hateful ad hominem mouth without everyone attacking you for your efforts. Not just regulars either but the the semi-lurker, lurkers and trolls too.

And Doctor? Bullshit. You don’t need to be blogging. You need to be hospitalized. They’d never let someone like you near a patient much less a prescription pad. If you have ‘script privileges (which I doubt) they are so restricted you can probably only write antibiotics and topical anti-histamines. But you sure do act just like an insurance adjuster.

I can make you far more miserable than you can make me. That’s been proven. I can do it because:

    1) You hate my very existence and because of that I have to expend minimal energy to piss you off. Even innocuous posts set you off. All I have to do is be me. That’s easy. I’ve been me for over 40 years now.

    2) You can’t draw the correlation that the harder you attack me, the worse it gets for you although it consistently has.

    3) I’m a lot smarter than you. Not arrogance. Simply a fact. If this doesn’t work, I’ll simply shift tactics to make things as difficult for you as possible here and keep your credibility at zero. I have been waging war in one form or another my entire life. I know strategies you’ve never dreamed of. I’ll keep shifting until you eventually have a psychotic break.

    4) LECHTER: “So how did you catch me, Jack?”
    JACK: “I had an advantage.”
    LECHTER: “What’s was that?”
    JACK: “I’m not crazy.”

Or JT can ban me for this tactic.

I told him not defending against an attacker I’ve given multiple chances to walk away is not in my nature. I’ve taken all the crap from you I intend to, you vile POS. If you were a man and this a physical room? I’d have long ago taken you outside and beat you to the ground for the way you treat people.

But I told JT that if you didn’t stop, I have no intention of doing so. Now it’s just time to give you the finger ad infinitum. It’s academic to me. I have no more emotional investment in this and I would running an experiment on a lab rat. I’d rather not, but hey, since you asked so nice.

Now that you’ve asked for getting run through the shredder once again by attacking me (and Jill) in yet another ad hominem nonsense attack combined with your delusional preening about your importance, I’m NOT going to keep serving you shit sandwiches. I throughly have demolished your credibility with the readership if not our host with that tactic already. That part of my job is done. Now?

I’m going to give the others impetus to start serving you shit sandwiches.

    The Box Score.

It’ll be simple at first. As your uncontrollable bad behavior continues to manifest, I’m sure new stats will be added.

Now every one will have a way to track how many times you go insane and they’ll have a real number to refer to.

And an impetus to shut you down every time you do it.

My first tactic was to turn you against yourself. And it worked beautifully. You spontaneous combusted like a magnesium rag doll thrown in a pool of water. Everyone now clearly sees you attack people because you have both an aggression problem and a self-image problem.

Now I’ll be turning others against you. Not because I want to, but because you insist on escalation and non-compliance with the civility rule.

I am truly sorry Prof. I’ve complied with your request EVERY TIME. Now? Everyone involved was warned that I’d respond if she didn’t stop.

Now I’m going to keep score to show to everyone just how out of control Patty is.

So make those ad hominem attacks, you vapid cow! I’ve got my clicker ready.

  16. Greetings!

Sailing along the ME coast, including Camden, where Cronkite kept his boat, at times, was total bliss, as usual. This is the third time we took our dogs along -in the stink pot. They were all outfitted with florescent orange doggie flotation devices – what a hoot…! 😉

We, meaning I and a group of our medical colleagues, mostly physicians, found Obama’s speech ground-moving. It’s what he is good at, and we are NOT deterred or distracted by
the likes of Rep. Wilson, although I’m sure ‘BILe’ and Jill are backing him up on the ‘liar’ part, eh?

I am a doctor and am able to speak with ‘some’ authority about what needs to happen, and most of my friends AND colleagues are for healthcare reform. AND since the health insurance industry has not been responsive, WE need to do something else as a country. There it is. And unless you are in my field of expertise, you almost certainly don’t ‘get it’, totally. There’s little way you could, unless you are on the back end of failed policy..

Frankly, if Obama accomplishes little else, post Bush and Co, I’ll be fairly satisfied. This is a HUGE issue…
