Shane Carlson, 26, has a long record of burglaries and office break-ins, but police say that he has recently turned to a more specialized form of theft: teeth. Perhaps responding to Glenn Beck’s continual hawking of gold as an investment, Carlson has been allegedly stealing teeth and filings for the gold from dental offices. He was captured with a bag of teeth in Seattle.
When Carlson was stopped, he allegedly had a variety of driver’s licenses on him.
Beck is right about one thing: gold is a real hedge against the recession, at least for burglars. In one heist alone, Carlson is believed to have stolen $10,000 worth of gold. At $1,000 per ounce, it is an excellent way for a criminal to diversify his holdings.
Carlson has a slew of outstanding warrants and, as a repeat offender, he is unlikely to go gold prospecting again any time soon. The police are planning to take a bite out of crime by hitting him with a long list of criminal charges.
