HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY!!!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all of the leprechauns of the blog.

I am waiting for the four kids to wake. We left out corned beef and cabbage and Guinness beer for the leprechauns last night. They finished off the beer and appear to have helped themselves to a second beer during the night. Little rascals. They again left gold dollar coins in little bags for each of the kids hanging from a tree outside. They also hid potatoes with three-leaf clovers on them around the house. If you make a dish from the potatoes, it doubles the luck of the coins.

Since many people have sent me funny Irish jokes on this day, I will share one of my own favorites (of course with a legal theme):

One night on the small, dark Irish country roads an Englishman and an Irishman were driving recklessly and collided, demolishing both of their cars. Amazingly, the two men emerged from the wreck unscathed. Astonished by their luck, both agree to put aside their dislike of each other from that moment forward.

The Irishman at this point fetches a bottle of 12-year-old Jameson from his car and hands it to the Englishman who gratefully accepts it, removes the top and hefting the bottle in a toast, cries,

“May the English and the Irish live forever in peace and harmony!” Still shaky from the wreck, the Englishman takes several hearty swallows, draining a good half of the bottle before handing it back to Paddy.

“Eh, no thanks,” says the Irishman, “I think I’ll just wait for the Garda to get here.”

I will return to blogging once my leprechauns have found the potatoes and made it to school.

Until then . . .

  1. Gyges,

I read that last night. Very cool indeed. While practical teleportation may never arise, I can see this kind of engineering leading to the development of an Ansible. For those not familiar with the works of Ursula Le Guin . . .

  2. rafflaw,

You could be correct if they were still using the Julian Calendar. It generally coincides with spring. I found this interesting a number of years ago, when I found out how they calculated Easter. It is the first Sunday after the Full Moon in the Vernal Equinox. I found this in the Episcopal Prayer book. I was like wow….

  3. Oops, sorry no embed allowed; so if you want travel to youtube, the Pearl Jam song ‘Breathe’ is there try: 75fDuvRxthA

    ‘An Irish Toast’

May you never lie, steal, cheat or drink.
But, if you must lie, lie in your lover’s arms.
If you must steal, steal your lover’s heart.
If you must cheat, cheat death.
And if you must drink, drink with us, your friends.

AY, God gave us whiskey, so we Irish wouldn’t rule the world!
Bob, thank-you for Belushi on SNL, still so funny!

Last week SNL’s guest was Pearl Jam, I’m still humming this song; admittedly not genuine Irish (except in feeling) but they are wearing the green!
