A Cat Fight in Kalamazoo: Owner Faces Criminal Charge Over Feline Fight

Sarah Hill allegedly has been harboring and feeding a dangerous criminal: her eight-year-old cat Cameron. She has been criminally charged under a Kalamazoo city ordinance after a neighbor reported that Cameron had attacked her cat.

She could face 90 days in jail and a $500 fine for the cat fight.

The neighbor Elizabeth Eisenbach reported to Kalamazoo County Animal Services and Enforcement that Hill’s cat had attacked her cat, William. Her witness account say that she saw Cameron chasing William down the street “attacking William’s rear end.” She eventually chased Cameron away and took William to the vet for scratches.

Hill is an associate professor of anthropology and environmental studies at Western Michigan University and has retained counsel.

It seems another example of the criminalization of America where civil disputes are turned into criminal matters, here.

  1. It was just a matter of time, and like everything else, the law has now gone to the cats and dogs…

  2. so sorry I missed this brawl…..I was over at Dog’s having a sip and a good game of chess….;) mreeeeow

  3. At some point, people will have to come to their senses and realize that resources are limited, and not all behavior can be codified, separated into criminal and non-criminal categories, and then equally and justly enforced. There is simply not enough money to do everything that people would want, when given the chance to vote on having the Government do this or that for them. Reason has gone out the window, and this is a prime example…

  4. And ECookie, in the Perfect Orwellian World you would be required to.

  5. Helllooo AY, how are you?

All I can say is that it is a good thing we don’t have a law like this that gets applied in the same circumstances because I would have to file a complaint against myself.

  6. Hey Toots, can you please give us the legislative historyof this allegedly insane law, including the names of the mentally unstable leftists who passed it? Also, can you please give us the names and political affiliations of the people who decided to take a law that was likely intended to be applied in very different cicrumstances and apply it to this cat fight? I’m just wondering how many leftists there are among the politicians, police force and district attorney’s office in Kalamazoo and since you seem to be the expert on everyone’s political leanings, perhaps you have the answer.

  7. “Tootie”-

You should go back and read your own post. I think Buddha is Laughing was distracted by your initial offering of “mentally unstable leftists”, and “union thugs, commonly known as teachers”.

You were not just pointing out “bad laws” but taking potshots an people you do not know– you were making what are commonly called “insults”.

So don’t feel insulted yourself. If you dish it out, be able to take it yourself.

  8. Buddha:

Naturally, you have lugged in a straw man to distract the kiddies (or should I say kitties?) I’m not opposed to the law as you allege.

I used the terms “incessant and insane” to define what was bad about the laws. Simple enough, but these terms seem to have thrown you into a tizzy. Did you need me to use smaller words so you could figure out what I said?

Here is what happened, I basically condemned bad laws, and you responded by posting insults to me in your effort to tell me the problem with the law was bad laws.

Did you learn how to do that at college?

  9. Unlike dogs – who have leash laws. No matter what their size is and it doesn’t matter if it’s considered a QUIET neighborhood.

Like it or not. This is what cats do. It is a natural behaviour born into them. If you don’t like it – make it an indoor cat.

  10. KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN!!!

    Listen up, screwheads!

I’m waiting for the audible pop when you pull your collective heads out.

    They are CATS.

Cats, even cats that love each other, WILL FIGHT. It is their nature. Especially if they are domesticated. Once deprived of the need to hunt, that energy will compound until they have to release it somewhere. This manifest by . . . dun-dun-Da! cats hunting EACH OTHER. Any owner of more than one cat can verify this fact as will a vet.

Next you geniuses should try to outlaw shedding.

    Nitwits.

  11. Tootleisicous,

We – as in all rational beings regardless of political persuasion – love it when right wing unthinking fanatics get on a high horse about stupidity in action when they are all over the place advocating an end to compulsory education.

It’s simple irony, but it goes well with coffee. You might choke on it with your tea though. Probably leaves a bitter aftertaste. You know bitter right? It is after all your favored tone.

    I’ll make it simple.

    Laws are not the problem.

BAD laws are the problem. Not just for the right or the left or the middle, but for EVERYONE. Bad laws come from corruption 99.9% of the time.

You just seem to have an issue in distinguishing good and bad.

Who’d have thunk it? Since you is so well edumacated in stratergeric thought.

  12. AY:

I see people going through a lot of tough times and to think that this is really something that ends up in court,WOW!!

  13. I like it when mentally unstable leftists might get a big dose of the incessant and insane laws they create which make it impossible for us to go about in our daily lives without being criminals.

Michigan is the land of the police-state. It is a miserable rotten place because of the fascism that took hold long ago in the odious public schools heavily propagandized by union thugs, commonly known as teachers, who have created a citizenry averse to liberty.

These brain-washed students are the very same ones who have been destroying their state economy and quality of life for over thirty years.

  14. Absurd. Both stories. (Thanks for the second one, AY.)

    From AY’s link:

The DNRE dedicated between 40 and 80 man-hours to investigate Borton’s case and various complaints against him, said DNRE Sgt. Jim Gorno.

To say that these are troubling trends is an understatement.

  15. The above story is about a guy that has a tracking station for the True Sledders.

  16. Kalamzoo, home of Pfizer enough said. The quality if water leaves something to be desired, not to say the quality of living.

You will love the story about bird feeders. If you feed birds and the feed (sun flower seeds) attracts deer then you could be fined and go to jail.

Bird feeders run afoul of deer-baiting ban

Gaylord man heads back to court over sunflower seeds. I kid you not.

  17. ” Her witness account say that she saw Cameron chasing William down the street “attacking William’s rear end.” with what?

  18. How do we know tha Cameron wasn’t provoked? I’ve heard William like to talk/meow tough when he thinks he can get a way with it and Cameron had had enough amd wasn’t gonna let him get away with it.

Although they are bred in the deepest pits of the Devil’s Domain cat’s are very sensitive and their feelings easily hurt.
