Today John Paul Stevens officially announced that he will resign at the end of this term. As I state in today’s column in USA Today, it is the end of an era for liberals. I discussed the issue on this segment of Countdown.
Stevens has long been a personal hero for me for obvious reason. We are both from Chicago. We both received our undergraduate degrees at University of Chicago and law degrees at Northwestern. We both worked at the same law firm. And most importantly we are both Cubs fans.
I will have more to say tonight on Countdown.
Here is his letter to President Obama: Stevens
Here is today’s column: John Paul Stevens: The Uncalled Shot
Now I understand your personality… you’re a Cubs fan, so you believe in the futile!
In his own words he considered himself to be politically conservative.
He mentioned that since he has been there, each time there has been a replacement, they were more conservative than the Justice they replaced.
That will continue because of the powers that be and because of the direction the nation has been creeping since about 1917.
