Police in Olathe, Kansas are going to pay Scott Schaper $4000 after he was ticketed for flipping off an officer following a traffic ticket.
The Olathe police officer had given Schaper a ticket for running a stop sign when Schaper expressed himself with the one-finger salute. He was promptly given a citation for the obscene gesture.
The city will now pay Schaper $4,000 and pay another $1,000 for the American Civil Liberties Union of Kansas and Western Missouri. It has also agreed to train its officers on such confrontations, which I assume involves having officers stand as instructors flip them the bird.

Great story!
There are few things more pleasing to me than to hear a traffic report which says that the cause of a local accident was a cop.
(if there was no one hurt, which is usually the case, and if I wasn’t the other car, which has always been the case thus far)
This is what becomes of a country where Dick Cheney and Joe Biden eff off in public before a mic and still keep their jobs.
From the article:
He did it because he was taking his children to school and the traffic stop caused them to cry, said Doug Bonney, legal director for the ACLU chapter.
(This was stated by Doug Bonney not by Shaper. The statement was not in quotations so perhaps it’s a paraphrasing and / or, as common sense dictates by reading it, the journalist left out pertinent information and took something out of context.)
I want to say good for you but can’t really bring myself to do it. The dude must have had kids in the car for his lawyer claimed that the traffic stop and first ticket made the kids cry and that was his motivation for flipping the cop off.
It wasn’t okay that the cop gave him a ticket for running a stop sign because it made his kids cry but it was okay for him to give the bird to the cop in front of his kids?
Strange parental reasoning.
I know Olathe cops. The detectives? They do a fine job. The street cops? The word that comes to mind, with no positive connotation, is “cowboys”.
And right now I’m laughing my ass off.
Karma rides again! Saddle up, boys!
