Long Beach Police Rush to Save Drowning Man — Run Over Sunbather

Long Beach police are investigating a beach tragedy after one of its officers rushed to help a drowning man — only to run over a sunbather and crush his spine.

In the meantime, down the beach another swimmer Emanuel Tiburcio, 19, drowned. He did not know how to swim and was seen struggling in the water after a large wave pulled him into deep water.

This is not the first case of police running over sunbathers, here.

  1. here in daytona everybody gets to drive on the beach during daylight hours. makes about as much sense as having a picnic in the median of an interstate highway.

  2. rafflaw,

In LB, they drive where they want. This is not the first one that has ever been run over by the “Rescue” where is David Hasselhoff when you need him?

  3. That was a horrible story. I feel for both the victim and the lifeguard, as well as the family of the drowned individual! Is there a set access area for vehicles on these beaches or do they just drive anywhere?
