Scientists Accuse Obama Administration of Continuing Political Manipulation of Science

Scientists have gone public with allegations that the Obama Administration has continued the practice of the Bush administration in blocking scientists and ignoring scientific conclusions for political reasons.

While, upon taking office, President Obama ordered his advisers to develop rules to “guarantee scientific integrity throughout the executive branch,” scientists claim that his administration has continued controversial projects where politics trumped science and has continued the practice of ignoring scientific reviews.

For example, in Florida, water-quality experts have complained that the White House is continuing to block efforts to assess damage to the Everglades stemming from development projects. Other scientists complained of being pressured to minimize the damage of dams on salmon populations and overgrazing on federal land.

  1. Tootie,

No, you simple creature. Seizing a segment of the economy and holding it public trust would be socialism not fascism. Fascism would be selling a bunch of bullshit labeled “health care reform” that was nothing more that bailing out the insurance and pharmaceutical industries while still denying hundreds of thousands of Americans health care because those industries wanted to maintain their ridiculous profit margins and gave the orders. Corporations giving the orders to maintain their controls and profits. That’s fascism, dearie. Totally locking down the entire economy, not just segments vital to national best interests, would be socialism or more accurately communism by that definition.

And you mistake me for someone impressed with either prizes or economists. The best way to get 12 opinions is to lock 8 economists in a room. You also mistake me for someone impressed by those who engage in cherry picking to get their definitions.

  2. Buddha.

You said that anyone who calls Obama a socialist doesn’t know what it means because Obama “takes marching orders” from corps and businesses …etc.

Would you take the word of Nobel Freedom Prize winner Friedrich Hayek who predicted that socialism would destabilize Europe and lead to a despotism like Hilter’s? (he was writing about this before his book was published)

Hayek said, in the 1976 Preface to his 1944 book “The Road To Serfdom” that

“At the time I wrote [the Road to Serfdom], socialism meant unambiguously the nationalization of the means of production and the central economic planning which this made possible and necessary…socialism has come to mean chiefly the extensive redistribution of incomes through taxation and the institutions of the welfare state.” (pg xxiii, pb.ed. 1994)

Obama’s redistribution and the welfare state achieve Marxist (socialist) goals and that is why Obama is a socialist. It is why Pelosi and Reid are.

Marx’s goals for controlling business such that the little guy gets what others think is his rightful income is perfectly achieved through high taxation and welfare. It is exactly the goal of socialism. The means of production are controlled by taxation. A business produces according to its bottom line and when the bottom is line is controlled by every present taxation, socialism is achieved.

Fascism included government run private business. This was an ass kicking affair. The fascist said: cooperate or be destroyed. This is exactly what Obama says too.

Corps are not cooperating because they want to, they are cooperating because they have to. They do what they do to survive and it creates an impression that the feelings are mutual between government and business. It is a marriage of convenience only.

Seizing the health care industry (is that still 1/7th of the economy?) is exactly and precisely fascist.

  3. Tootie,

What are you referring to as ‘environmental pet projects’?

  4. There is NO MONEY LEFT for environmental pet projects.

The dung is hitting the fan. You don’t worry about fixing the handrails on the ship when it is sinking. You worry about swimming.

    LOL

    Obama knows this.

  5. FF Leo–

There weren’t no weddin’ punch–just some beer, wine, and summa that bubbly stuff.

I’m just coming down slowly from the “wedding high.” In addition, it’s been hot and excessively humid here for several days. This kind of weather melts my brain cells.

  6. *BP, incidentally, gets to see all this data right away.*

Which is funny because they didn’t pay for the damn satellites. We the People did.

  7. Corporate/government tyranny.

NOAA Hoarding Key Data On Oil Spill Damage

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/07/13/noaa-hoarding-key-data-on_n_645031.html?view=print#

From the linked article by Dan Froomkin

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is hoarding vast amounts of raw data that independent marine researchers say could help both the public and scientists better understand the extent of the damage being caused by the massive BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

*BP, incidentally, gets to see all this data right away.*

This gulf oil spill is causing an environmental archetypal shift before our very eyes.

  8. When Ms. EM wrote “are” I figgured she was a’writin’ fer my understandin’.

Had a bit too much weddin’ punch there, Ms. EM?

  13. Oh my God! I am correcting a personal spelling error:

In an earlier comment I addressed to rafflaw I wrote:

“My daughter is are only child. My husband beamed as he walked her down the aisle.”

    Shame on me!!!!!
Correction: My daughter is OUR only child. My husband beamed as he walked her down the aisle.

My brain hasn’t been functioning properly since the end of Wedding Weekend.

  14. Elaine, thanks for the link. I don’t think I’ll ever catch up on my back issues of “School Library Journal.” (add here one of those smiley avatars that I don’t know how to create).

  15. Elaine,

Those are the kind of people that denial comes easy to, it is a coping mechanism after all, but it does drive me a little crazy.

  16. Buddha–

“Stupid people donโ€™t know when theyโ€™re being oppressed.”

    They are also easily brainwashed.

    **********

I have several conservative friends/family members who are well-educated and well-read–yet they supported Bush/Cheney and the preemptive war in Iraq–as well as many of their policies. I also know some well-educated, well-read liberals who won’t criticize Obama–no matter what he does.

I think many people just believe what they want to believe. Forget critical thinking. Life’s easier that way.

  17. Ooo. Pardon the awkward construction. I’m running on the sleep deprivation program today. ๐Ÿ˜€
