Meet Christine O’Donnell: Tea Party Candidate For Delaware’s Next Senator

If you have not previously encountered Christine O’Donnell (who is running for the Republican nomination in Delaware), she is becoming the new face of the Tea Party and what some hope is the new Republican party. One issue that makes her stand out is her rather expansive definition of what constitutes adultery.

She is running against Rep. Mike Castle, a former governor. However, she seems more inclined to debate subjects like masturbation than most politicians, including her position that masturbation is an act of adultery. This could make for an interesting debate.

O’Donnell told an MTV interviewer in 1998 that masturbation is the same as adultery because “the Bible says that lust in your heart is committing adultery. So you can’t masturbate without lust.” She has also written that “[w]hen a married person uses pornography, or is unfaithful, it compromises not just his (or her) purity, but also compromises the spouse’s purity.”

You have to admit this makes for a much more interesting debate than the usual fare of debating tax rates and federal jurisdiction.

  1. Elaine,

I’ve always thought of Caribou Barbie and the reincarnation of Joe McCarthy (or, as I like to think of them, ‘Bachmann-Palin Overdrive) as the ultimate nightmare ticket, but Brewer/Angle is pretty scary, too… Let’s round up the illegals (and anyone who looks Mexican, just to be sure) and repeal social security! Liz ‘my father’s a war criminal and I’m proud of him’ Cheney and Ms. Matalin (she’s not crazy enough to merit an epithet of her own) aren’t even in the same weight class…

  2. eniobob,

    “Dream Ticket”?

    John Bolton/Joe Arpaio.

    LOL!!!

    *****
How about a Dream Girl Ticket?”

    Some suggestions:
    – Sarah Palin/Michele Bachmann
    – Jan Brewer/Sharron Angle
    – Liz Cheney/Mary Matalin

“Why is it that republicans can get away with “dirty tricks” and democrats can’t?”

The Republicans seem to have a knack for finding the Democrats committing less extreme versions of the same offenses and making a false equivalency argument. The really sad part is that the Democrats usually resign (Elliot Spitzer) while the Republicans just keep hanging around (Ensign, Sanford, Vitter, …). The attitude seems to be that the Democrats ‘should know better’ while on the other hand ‘what did you expect, they’re a Republican’. When you combine this with their adeptness at using the ‘Big Lie’ technique and their 24 hour propaganda network it’s very formidable.

I couldn’t agree more about the difference between bad and worse – if the left wants to achieve any of its goals, it’s time to suck it up and support the Democrats. Does anyone seriously think that Speaker Bohner will be better for the progressive agenda than Speaker Pelosi has been?

    Jill,

Whatever anyone thinks about the media (left, right, or center) the fact is that we have a media that is most likely incapable of turning away from a story about masturbation for any reason (with the exception of Jon Stewart who job includes connecting any story to masturbation if at all possible…).

  4. Yes, tea baggers smell almost as bad as the bleeding bodies of our torture victims and dead civilians around the world. Will the hilarity of this govt. ever end?

  5. I don’t know if Axe cleans a tea bag but using lemon scented soap makes them smell better.

  6. Here’s a fine example of uninformed ignorance:

Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio Won’t Rule Out 2012 White House Run

This jackbooted thug and Tea Bagger hero being investigated by the DOJ in anticipation of prosecution for abuse of power and corruption thinks he has a chance at winning a national election.

That would be uninformed ignorance dancing with wishful thinking.

Much like the Tea Baggers are the uninformed (and easily manipulated) leading the blindly angry all the time thinking they are a populist voice for restoring the Constitution when they are in fact tools of the Koch brothers and Dick Armey and playing right into the very hands of those who would make this country a theocratic and/or fascist dictatorship.

  7. Can we look forward to the institution of a federal Morals Police, to roam the streets, flogging those who look like they may have masturbated? Or stationed at airports, making sure that no pregnant woman leaves the country? Or breaking down the doors of anyplace where two people of the same sex live? Or bursting into bedrooms to be sure that sex is for procreation only? And we wonder at what goes on in Saudi Arabia….

  8. Jeepers Creepers,

Hey there Jeep, welcome back … hope you’re not contemplating a violation of the latest teabagger’s abominable act … you guys are no fun at all … good to hear from you, though.

I apologize for attacking your grammatical errors earlier … it was the first time I’d come across your posts and didn’t realize, till other posters directed me to earlier writings from you, that it was part of your endearing style. Err on without fear of reprimand!

So how’s it been going in teabagger land? Has GeeGee been behaving? (sshh, come closer … Be careful, I think he/she is skulking around trying to spot sly masturbaters … just a friendly word to the wise …)

  9. Jeepers The catholic schools don’t waste their time teaching “creationism.”
