Meet Christine O’Donnell: Tea Party Candidate For Delaware’s Next Senator

If you have not previously encountered Christine O’Donnell (who is running for the Republican nomination in Delaware), she is becoming the new face of the Tea Party and what some hope is the new Republican party. One issue that makes her stand out is her rather expansive definition of what constitutes adultery.

She is running against Rep. Mike Castle, a former governor. However, she seems more inclined to debate subjects like masturbation than most politicians, including her position that masturbation is an act of adultery. This could make for an interesting debate.

O’Donnell told an MTV interviewer in 1998 that masturbation is the same as adultery because “the Bible says that lust in your heart is committing adultery. So you can’t masturbate without lust.” She has also written that “[w]hen a married person uses pornography, or is unfaithful, it compromises not just his (or her) purity, but also compromises the spouse’s purity.”

You have to admit this makes for a much more interesting debate than the usual fare of debating tax rates and federal jurisdiction.

  1. We have closed primaries in Ohio too … if you want to vote in a primary you have to declare rep or dem … depending on the situation, I’ve been both.

  2. As Horatio Alger might say, “proof that anyone-absolutely anyone–can grow up to become President (or Senator).”

The Democrats certainly have more of a chance against O’Donnell than they did against Castle. It’s shaping up to be an insane political season…

    Elaine,

Given the relative voter enthusiasm numbers I’m guessing that the Democrats didn’t play a role in her victory.

  4. Swarthmore mom,

I just heard the news on CNN. (I’ve been watching Larry King interview Bill Maher.) I didn’t think O’Donnell would be the victor. Do you think any Democrats voted in the Republican primary?

  5. Swarthmore mom said,

“The election is today. Mike Castle is saying if she beats him republicans will lose the seat.”

Let’s hope he’s right and she beats him.

  7. McDonnell is the nut case that believes condoms wouldn’t prevent aids. She says this because aids virus was so small it would pass right through a condom.
Yeah she sounds about right for the tea baggers.

  8. Jeepers Creepers– Don’t get too cocky. The Death Panels still have two and a half years to go, and the ovens are running night and day.

  9. The punishment for the sin of Onan is death so listing it with adultery (also punishable by death) makes legal sense to the American Taliban and their desire to institute Christian Sharia law in the US.

However there is one tiny problem – death is called for the female partner in adultery but only a man can commit the sin of Onan. Maybe that is a feature & not a bug but we will probably have to wait for a final ruling from the Supreme Council to know how they plan to apply the law.

  10. Jeepers Creepers:

Slarti is right repubs would have to pick up a minimum of 60 seats and some dems would have to vote with them to make it to 2/3 rds for override. Senate needs 67 but repubs are probably going to only pick up 10.

So I think you need to keep dreaming and your [numb] skull needs to let in the light of reality.

this one is for you Creepy Jeeper:

  11. Jeepers Creepers,

Her victory being good for Democrats has nothing to do with Sarah Palin – Mike Castle is a virtual lock to win the general if he wins the primary. If Christine O’Donnell beats him then the Democrats have a real chance of retaining the seat. And I hope you didn’t believe Republican politicians claiming they would repeal health insurance reform and the stimulus – that’s just one more Republican lie. There is no way that Republicans can take both the House and the Senate by veto-proof majorities.

  12. “That’s outstanding. Her victory in the Republican primary would be great news for the Democrats.”

Sarah Palin’s endorsement is almost golden to a politician. Another delusion of the left to think that Palin is somehow death to smoochy. Keep on dreaming, you libs are going down and hard in November. Obamamommie is going to be a lame duck in January of 2011. Repeal of health care and death to stimulus are coming. You 20-30 percenters have pissed the other 70-80% of us off in a big way. It will be fun to watch as reality enters your [numb] skulls at light speed and your dreams of the mommie state die.
