Sufia Begum, 50, has become the latest victim of Sharia justice. The Bangladeshi woman died after being publicly caned for an alleged extramarital affair with her stepson.
Begum was sentenced by an Islamic court in her village and whipped 40 times on Nov. 12. The caning was carried about by a Muslim cleric and a local woman. Police reported that village elders “tied 10 canes together and beat her legs.” She was left swollen and her kidneys were badly damaged. Her family was trying to raise money for medical treatment when she died.
Bangladesh outlawed punishments in the name of religious edicts and two people have been arrested.

And the culture of the Oklahoma City bombers was?
3 guys vs a movement
Sweden tried tolerance and acceptance. Who were their bombers.
England tried tolerance and acceptance. Who were their bombers
Spain tried tolerance and acceptance. Who were their bombers.
Shall I continue?

Bdaman: You might try praying for tolerance and acceptance of other cultures.
sure as long as it’s a two way street. The problem is, it’s not.

Gotta go with Swarthmore mom on this one, Bdaman.

Sweatboxes:
In this form of torture, sometimes referred to as the “hot box” or simply as “the box,” the prisoner is locked up in a small, hot room which, due to lack of ventilation, essentially functions as an oven. When the prisoner cooperates, he or she is finally released.
Long used as a form of torture within the United States (most recently against one Alabama activist in 1998), it is particularly effective in the arid Middle East.

Who are you kidding Chan L.? We’re an incredibly bloodthirsty, vindictive lot. Here in the U.S.,however, we do things covertly — we try to hide the evidence of our similar crimes. I’ve seen a side of America that I never thought I would. I know exactly who and what we are. And we’re no better…
Bda,
A good friend of mine lives in Paris and she talks about this problem all the time and has for years. Many of the “immigrants” have automatic citizenship as they have come from French “colonial” territories. Unlike Americans who have been absorbing immigrants into the culture for centuries, the French have no such legacy. Yet these “citizens” have all the rights granted any French citizen and all the expectations. However … there are no jobs for them and unemployment plays a huge role in the troubles. Religion is a much smaller aspect of the problem.

and some are more barbaric than others.
While I don’t agree with the US doing what you show in the picture, I used to see fraternity pledges naked, tied to telephone polls all over town during hell week.
I am sorry if I don’t equate having underwear tied to my head vs. losing my head:
“I can still see it now,” he wrote in La Repubblica. “The [Taleban] commander issued his death sentence in the name of Islam. He said we were all spies and we had to die. [The translator] is crying. I don’t understand. I ask him what they said and he, in tears, says ’they are going to kill us’.
“I get off my knees. Four young men grab the driver and shove his face into the sand. They cut his throat and continue until they have cut his whole head.”

Sorry Mespo727272, it isn’t even close to being the same. While we shouldn’t engage in torture and I believe someone should be going to jail, to equate our society with these bunch of blood thirsty goons is, well, not right. Are you a cultural egalitarian?

Right on point … quick minds are at work this morning
I, like the vast majority of people in the world, believe in prayer. Prayer is a great gift given to us to communicate with God. However, I am not a fan of prayer ever being used as a tool of politics. It is especially wrong to use prayer as weapon of intimidation. Sadly a large group of Muslims in Paris, France think prayer should be used for just that purpose.
In the the Paris district of Barbès (Paris, 18th arrondissement) a large group of Muslims take over the streets by blocking them off to cars and pedestrians every Friday. The Islamists use their own guards and people to set up prayer rugs all over the streets of Myrha, Leon Polonceau, Fishmongers, and the Boulevard Barbès. It’s been going on for years and there appears to be no signs of it stopping.

From the AOL article:
“Bangladesh outlawed punishments in the name of religious edicts earlier this year, media reports said. But advocacy groups say it’s common for women to be whipped or caned for offenses like adultery despite the ban, AFP said.”
It’s somewhat encouraging that there have been two arrests. How this woman must have suffered… There’s way too much barbarism in the world, and America is no exception. We’re just less obvious about it.
