Happy New Year’s Eve to all of our blog family. We will be spending New Year’s Eve at home this year — preparing for our annual New Year’s party on January 1st. I will be toasting to everyone on our extended blog family.
Tonight Leslie and I will share our traditional bottle of Schramsberg Sparkling wine. This is my wedding anniversary. Thirteen years ago, Leslie and I eloped on New Year’s Eve after eight years years of dating. (There is an ongoing dispute over calculating the event, I insist that this is our 21th anniversary but Leslie insists on not counting the eight years of dating). We always celebrate with a bottle of J. Schrams. This was the bottle I bought after we got hitched at Alexandria City Hall. I used my house school ring.
We are expecting 150 friends to share in Wasabi Bloody Marys) and our traditional soup: The Bowl of the Wife of Kit Carson Soup. I am cooking two turkeys now to put into the soup.
Everyone drive carefully and have fun. I will be giving a toast to our entire blog family tonight (and, of course, my marriage).

The food in Elaine’s backseat, the fins on eniobob’s car, and Wilson Picket on the SwM’s radio … cruisin’ on down the road to 2011.

Elaine,
Mmmmmmm!
Mike S.,
Happy New Year to you and your family!
Your wife sounds great!
My husband and I are heading up to New Hampshire this afternoon. We’ll be toasting in the New Year with some dear friends who have a couple of timeshares in the White Mountains. We’re bringing lots of food and wine–including a Schramsberg Brut Rose. Our car will be packed to capacity with a lot of groceries and homemade goodies (a BIG apple pie, smoked salmon tartare, blueberry sauce for pancakes, creamy Caesar salad dressing…)
Tomorrow for brunch I’ll be making crispy potato pancakes, which we’ll serve with creme fraiche and caviar–and for New Year’s dinner, I’m making lobster in a cognac cream sauce with shallots and basil. Sunday, my husband will be making his “best-in-the- world” pizza.
Happy New Year to everyone at the Turley Blawg!
And HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to you and your wife, Professor Turley!
I wish you all a New Year filled with joy, health and fulfillment. I’m off to a huge house party tonight and will allow myself some shots of my favorite Tequila Patron. Although wasabi bloody mary’s sound good to me. Thank you Jonathan for creating this space where people can exchange ideas and in many cases convivial conversation. Thank you too all those on the blog who’ve expressed friendship and support for me through a trying, yet hopeful year. Being here makes me feel happy and among friends, many of whom with like minds, but agreement is of little import when compared with warm feelings. Enjoy the dawn of a new decade with hope and love.
Happy New Year to all. Here’s to health, prosperity and happiness.
Happy new year and anniversary to you and yours!
What lovely sentiments!
May you experience the happiest anniversary and new year ever, sir.
Happy New Year!
