Environmentalists are again calling foul after the announcement of Interior Secretary Ken Salazar that the Obama Administration has approved the expansion in coal mining and four new permits for deepwater offshore oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. The increased coal production could cause U.S. climate pollution to rise by more than 50 percent, Glenn Hurowitz, a senior fellow at the Center for International Policy, has claimed that the expansion of the coal production could increase pollution by more than 50 percent.
As noted below, environmentalist are noting that the expansion occurring after a recent Harvard study found the country’s dependence on coal “costs taxpayers about $345 billion a year in medical bills for health problems and pollution that occur in and around mining communities and power plants.”
Once again, larger environmental groups appear to be relatively silent over such changes — as opposed to their more vocal opposition to the same policies by Bush. Environmentalists appear to be having the same division as other liberal groups in opposing Obama. Civil libertarians remain the most vocal and opposed to Obama among traditionally liberal groups.

Funny how you’re slamming Obama because you’ve deluded yourself that he’s “allowing” Brazil to drill for oil in their waters
WASHINGTON, March 18 (UPI) — Washington has given Petrobras America Inc. permission to start oil and gas production in the Gulf of Mexico, a regulator said.
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement gave Petrobras approval to use a floating production storage offloading facility at its Cascade-Chinook project in the Gulf of Mexico.
The approval marks the first time FPSO technology will be used in U.S. waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

It’s the same for oil Blouise. If it’s bad to drill offshore in the GOMEX isn’t it bad to drill in offshore waters everywhere?
I guess the Koch brothers must have gotten a copy of his birth certificate.
“Clean coal is a dirty lie,” says environmentalist Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who calls President Barack Obama and other politicians who commit taxpayer money to develop it “indentured servants” of the coal industry.”

BIL,
“I can’t decide if I want to vomit or pee on the door handles.”
May I suggest pee? Vomit might leave traces and you don’t want to give Vitter early warning … you want to make sure he grabs that door handle good and tight 🙂

Lol!
“Deep Horizon”
Bdaman,
Funny how you’re slamming Obama because you’ve deluded yourself that he’s “allowing” Brazil to drill for oil in their waters using U.S. technology (which, in my mind, after Big Horizon doesn’t say a whole hell of a lot) … Rumor has it that while the U.S. is the third largest producer of crude oil, we only keep 40% of it here. Meaning, 60% is exported to other countries. Why the hell should we destroy our land and our water just to ship the shit overseas? Oh, so Big Oil can continue to report record profits … my bad.
If you’re so concerned about Big Oil losing out – please take comfort in the fact that either way, they will still reap massive profits. Poor, poor, Big Oil might miss out on a buck …

Personally, I like the idea of coal stoves and bringing back the steam locomotive.
I was never for nuclear power outside of the military.
Hold on now. I respect him for that but didn’t he try to impeach Cheney first and when that didn’t work he went after Bush. Had he been successful that would have made Cheney president? Not sure what his strategy was there.
bdaman,
“Who would have ever thought that a democrat (Kucinich) would be the first to call for impeachment.”
I would have.
Because he said the same of Bush.
In fact, I would have been vocally displeased had he not.
Because Kucinich has not only read and understands the Constitution (which that alone puts him above most of Congress), he respects both it and his sworn duty to defend it from attacks by ANYONE as well as his duty to all of the American people, not just corporate campaign contributors.
That’s why he’s the only guy on the Hill who actually deserves the job of President.
He speaks the truth.
raff,
That is the one saving grace of fascists: they eat their own.
All I can say is who would have ever thought that after an historic election one that brought promise of hope and change is business as usual. Who would have ever thought that a democrat (Kucinich) would be the first to call for impeachment.
And, it’s not “Obama’s watch now, yes it is, last time I checked he was sworn in January 2009.
And not one of the links I referenced said anything about an executive order. That came from Buddha.
I love the smell of facts in the morning!!
Great job Buddha and Stamford. The crap that comes out on a daily basis alleging crazy stuff being done by Obama amazes me in light of how far right of the middle he is in reality!
Those pesky facts!
They just keep kicking your ass, badtroll.
And yes, SL, Vitter is an idiot without compare. Every time I drive by his offices, I can’t decide if I want to vomit or pee on the door handles. Most times, I have the urge to do both.
Bdaman,
Vitter’s an idiot. No, he’s actually a colossal idiot. There’s no law I know of that restricts people like Vitter from exposing his idiocy on a daily basis.
He had plenty of time to question this, particularly since the loan process started under Bush, and the loan approved by Bush appointees. But there really isn’t much room for him to question because the loan is not taxpayer funded. Vitter is posturing. Nothing more and nothing less. He’s only doing this now because it’s Obama.
And, it’s not “Obama’s watch now.” What part of “unanimous and bipartisan votes, none of which were Obama appointee’s” escapes you?
What part of “no Obama executive order” is confusing you?
Sen. David Vitter challenges loan for drilling in Brazil by Export-Import Bank

Sen. David Vitter, R-La., has written the Export-Import Bank to ask why it is providing a $2 billion loan to support a drilling project in Brazil when domestic drilling has been stalled by the Obama administration since the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
“Louisianans are frustrated with the ongoing de facto moratorium, and I would appreciate a full accounting for the return on investment the American taxpayer has received, and is anticipated to receive on the $2 billion loan to this Brazilian petroleum company,” Vitter said in a letter to the bank’s president.
A spokeswoman for the bank, which receives no taxpayer funding, said the project includes American businesses, among them Edison Chouest Offshore of Louisiana. The company and its employees provided $35,200 to Vitter’s re-election campaign last year, second only to the law firm of Jones Walker.

Uh, the loan process was started further back than that, so if it was true 18 months ago and it’s still true now.
It’s Obama’s watch now.
America is for sale. We have an election to engineer. Right Bdaman. Help the cause do some more artful postings. You are my hero. I like it when you tell people that you are like Obama. Half Black. There is nothing black about you and you know it. lol
Bdaman,
Does it not register to you that what you are parrotting now has been thoroughly debunked two years ago?
That’s like saying that it was proven hundreds of years ago that the world is round, but because someone questions its roundness now, that it somehow disproves what was already proven.
