President Barach Obama launched his reelection bid this week with a video announcement on the Internet — which generated fewer hits than a parody by the Republicans. Now, in his first major appearance since the announcement, Obama will be appearing with Rev. Al Sharpton and speak at the annual convention of the National Action Network which Sharpton founded. Sharpton’s history of race-baiting and demagoguery has made him one of the most divisive figures in American politics. Yet, the President is about to share a podium with him. For liberals who denounced Republicans for their association with Sarah Palin, the question is whether they will be heard with equal vigor in the association with Sharpton.
The NAN website is all about Sharpton, featuring numerous pictures of Obama with Sharpton (including one in the Oval Office). The Republicans are likely to be featuring the same photographs. The website proclaims that Obama will be appearing with Sharpton. Strangely, NAN posted a press release on Obama’s decision to join Sharpton but added “***THE INFORMATION BELOW IS FOR PLANNING PURPOSES ONLY AND NOT FOR DISCLOSURE***” Notably, also joining Sharpton is “MSNBC PRESIDENT PHIL GRIFFIN,” who will be “honored” by the Reverend.
Sharpton has a long history of alleged corrupt practices , tax disputes, and federal investigations. He came to fame with his infamous role in the Tawana Brawley hoax that led to civil liability for Sharpton.
Obama, however, is willing to embrace Sharpton in anticipation of a tough reelection — another example of politics overcoming principle.

Rufus he has to have high gas prices, it’s the only way he can push his green agenda. Thats one of the reasons he was at the windmill factory today. Oh, and the fact that he gave them stimulus money. They were about to go bankrupt. Another company that was to big to fail.
NBC’s Brokaw: Saudis ‘So Unhappy’ With Obama They Sent Emissaries to China, Russia Seeking Enhanced Ties
Reporting from Baghdad, Iraq yesterday, NBC’s Tom Brokaw said the Saudi Arabian monarchy is “so unhappy with the Obama administration for the way it pushed out President Mubarak of Egypt” that it has sent senior officials to the Peoples’ Republic of China and Russia to seek expanded business opportunities with those countries.

All Obama has to do is allow us to drill off the coast of California and the east coast and in the GOM and allow a couple of new refineries to be built and guess what? Gas prices come down about $20/barrel in about a week and start heading south as the rigs come on line and ground is broken for the refineries.
Those would be real jobs paid for by oil and gas. Help a lot of folks with jobs and lower gas prices.
He also said “If you’re complaining about the price of gas and you’re only getting 8 miles a gallon, you know,You might want to think about a trade-in.”
Most minorities drive the poorest cars with the worst conditions. They can’t afford to put food on the table. Probably have a terrible credit rating due to foreclosure or late pays and yet he wants them to trade up for a Chevy Volt, He picked the wrong crowd to say that. What a jerk!!!!!!!!!
President Obama, speaking to Al Sharpton’s organization, says he is not “out of touch.”
“I remember that,” Obama added.
“I’m just going to be honest with you. There’s not much we can do next week or two weeks from now,” Obama said earlier today about gas prices.

I enjoyed listening to Sharpton on The Moth recently. Recommended.
eniobob,
“Representing more than a half-million federal workers
thats alot of votes and with gas prices going through the roof it’s gonna be a tough road to re-election”
The choice may be crsytal clear one candidate may represent high gas prices, while the other may have you pushing you car.”
If a Republican wins 2012, unions may not have anyone to sue …
Eniobob Obama spoke today and said Americans of all types are struggling to make good. But he also said the black community faces higher unemployment than other groups. And he said the poorest in society had to sacrifice the most during the recession.
The black and minority groups have suffered the greatest. First they lost their jobs because most were in construction or some type of trade. Now with food and gas prices going up it’s the double wammy. Luckily for me growing up my father was a chef so he always brought home leftovers so we ate good. I got a feeling though that like some of my friends growing up manayse sammiches is gonna be the only thing to eat for alot of disadvantage people’s.
“Most black people are more politically savvy than their White peers, ”
I agree, I have been listening to more and more blacks saying they are tired of being ignored by the democratic party. They are leaving the high tax liberal north eastern states in large numbers and heading for the south.
Democrats ignore this at their peril. I for one am tired of being taken for granted. Sucking up to me once every 2 years isn’t enough for my vote anymore.
Al Sharpton is a race baiting bunghole. And is a caricature of himself.

Weeks after President Obama took office, John Gage, the head of the largest union for federal workers in the country, gave a speech hailing the new administration as a champion for “transparency, accountability and good government.”
But in a sharply worded federal lawsuit filed last week, that same union, the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), accused the Obama administration of keeping important government records secret.
Representing more than a half-million federal workers, the union sued the White House budget office and its director, Jacob J. Lew, in U.S. District Court in Washington over what it called the office’s “unlawful” failure to respond to an expedited Freedom of Information Act request.
The union filed the information request last month because it wants the Office of Management and Budget to turn over contingency plans on how federal agencies will handle a potential government shutdown, including a list of all federal employees who will continue to report to work “to protect life and property.”
